Trattoria Il Mulino is attached to and affiliated with the Hilton Hotel. It was a dark and stormy night when the 4 of us rolled into Nashville. After checking in, we wandered over to Broadway and clueless to dinner options. At one point we ended up at The Palm, which is was perhaps had too much of an expense account dinner vibe. The menu was solid, but not what we wanted to experience or pay for. Gayle and I don't dine out often or at Italian restaurants. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But this one was a bit of a treat in terms of service, nicely wooded decor, a nice booth, and really stellar service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I enjoyed mussels (with bread) and a nice glass of dry Riesling. Ah the right service can make all the difference. Karen and her team of two were great, from the wine through every course. Although I made reservations here from a colleagues recommendation, I was greatly disappointed. Once our server making a brash joke as soon as we sat down, I was prepare for this experience to be less than worth the price point. We also had a rotating set of individuals serving us, making it a less than ideal experience as we couldn't quite pin down who our server actually was. I left a private note about this on the app we booked our reservation with and was met with no response or acknowledge they had received word of the waiters inappropriate comments. The food was decent, but it doesn't quite compare to other restaurants of a similar level in Nashville. We ordered cocktails, calamari, and the chefs special. I would avoid the calamari if you're not looking for a spicy appetizer as it is was coated in red pepper flakes. The special was good, but the potatoes and asparagus left much to be desired. Overall, this spot feels a bit like a tourist trap disguised as a high class restaurant. If you're looking for great food, I suggest some other spots! read more

On the Main dishes, I had the Pesto pasta it was very good, nice tasting pesto sauce. The gnocchi was also very good & Frutti di mare was good as well. Location right in the heart of Nashville Downtown. Atmosphere: Basement restaurant from street level with plenty of seating and very modern decor. Food: My guess is they must make the best pasta in Tennessee if not on the entire east coast. Bread and olive oil were very tasty. The meatball appetizer was out of this world and was very delicious! My Linguine with clams was probably the best pasta dish I ever had besides outside of Italy. The pasta, the sauce with a special kick and the clams were just so delicious and mouthwatering. This restaurant was extremely good, and we ended up going there 3 times in a row for lunch while in town. Unfortunately, I didn't try their pizza or other items but each of my co-workers had nothing but good things to say about their food. Enjoyed a recent business meeting here in their separate meeting room. We had a party of about 16; which, seemed like we went over the amount that could fit there as we were right against each other on seating. It was nice though to have a separate room. Food overall was just ok, actually. I ordered Cesar salad, chicken fettuccine, and flowerless chocolate cake. Cesar was good, nothing to write home about but tasted good. The fettuccine was actually better when I reheated left over. Chocolate cake was good. Overall attention on service was not to the standard of other establishments in the area. We had one main server and about 2 people helping. It was great though that they offer complementary valet at the hotel, just get your ticket stamped before leaving. We ate dinner here the other night with a reservation. We were seated immediately. It had a very cool, chill vibe. Pros: The food was fantastic! We got an array of starters and shared a pasta bowl. The white Pinot Grigio was delightful and fresh: the support staff was constantly rounding on us to fill our waters and check our needs. They were very friendly and responsive. Cons: they advertise vegan options but they only have one dish that my vegan friend could eat - and they put Parmesan on it (despite her asking to hold it). Our server was okay, but not very friendly or gracious when we had to send the dish back for a cheese free one. She also did not check on us very often, relying on the support staff to meet our needs. It was also a little pricey (but worth the expense). All in all, would eat here again! I stumbled upon this place when looking for an Italian place to eat downtown. We were seated rather quickly and got to ordering. I got a create your own pasta with angel hair and a meat/tomato sauce and my friend got the clam linguine. We also ordered a side of Brussel sprouts. They brought out some bread and eggplant as an appetizer. The bread was good- lots of flavor and very fresh. The eggplant was the worst eggplant I'd ever had. It was mushy and cold and covered in cheese, however the cheese could not mask the horrible texture and lack of flavor. My pasta dish was good, but I have to admit it was a little below expectations for a nearly $30 price tag. My friend who ordered the clam linguine- it came out missing half of the clams. There were three shells on top but only one of them had meat in it and the other two were just the shells. We brought it to the waiter's attention, who said that "the clam meat was mixed into the sauce." While this may have been true, we did mix around the pasta and there was still very little clam meat for this dish to be labeled "clam linguine" and the hefty price tag of $26. However, they did apologize and remade the dish. When they brought it back out, there were shells filed with meat as well as visible meat mixed into the sauce. Their customer service did take care of our issue. As a whole, it was a decent experience but the prices were high, possibly because it was located near downtown and a restaurant located inside a hotel. read more

Our first night in Nashville and we were looking for comfort food, which for us is typically Italian. Mulino did not let us down, and almost certainly shall see our faces again during our weeks stay. When we walked in to the hostess stand the young lady standing there was very engrossed with her phone, and didn't even notice us walk up. Not the best start. After that however everyone was very good. Not having reservations, we sat at the bar, which is one of our favourite places anyway, you get a great vibe about the place where all the action is happening. Steve and Avery took great care of us, all the while pumping out the drinks. They make a great pair, and Steve had some great insight into the area surrounding the entertainment district. Our Panzanella salad, which we split, came our very quickly, and was quite tasty, but with only one piece of bread, we typically see a number of toast points or croutons. Our Margherita pizza was very good as well, although even by the staffs admission took quite a while. We were not hungry, but only managed to eat 3/4 of it. Tasty leftovers now in our room fridge. The restaurant itself, although dark, is nicely decorated, with the wine wall especially impressive! Overall a very good place to eat, would have been five stars except for a couple of small miscues. It was our 2 year anniversary and they had a letter in English and Italian waiting on the table when we arrived. The wine bottle service was very professional and enjoyable! The food was next level we had the calamari as a starter and it was second to none. As an entree I got the spaghetti and it was delectable the meat balls melt in my mouth. My boyfriend got the nightly special which was risotto, scallops, and Brussel sprouts. Which he said was amazing. And I personally tried the brussel sprouts and scallops(which I have never personally liked anywhere else) but I loved them and will get them again. We as well got the cherry cheesecake for dessert and it was amazing and because of our anniversary it was comped. Overall 10/10 and we will be coming here for our next anniversary as well.
