Although the views are beautiful, and the food is decent, I am disappointed by the service I received. I've been here a few times, and I haven't had any issues before. I ordered my burger medium-well because I am pregnant and cannot have any uncooked meat. I was here for a business lunch and didn't want to announce that I was pregnant to my colleagues. Unfortunately, the burger was served to me medium-rare, so I let the server know. She wasn't apologetic, and said that medium-rare is the standard for their burgers. If I knew that I couldn't order my burger fully cooked, I would've ordered something else. She took the burger back to the kitchen, then brought it back cut in half, facing down. She asked me if it was better, then acknowledged that there was a lot of sauce covering it, so it was difficult to tell. It seemed as though they had only seared the edges, but the rest of the burger was still very rare. I didn't want to send it back again because I didn't want to make a fuss in front of my colleagues, so I just picked at the rest of the burger and left most of it. I really wish that the server had been more apologetic and willing to fix the issue. I shouldn't have to bring up my medical condition in order to receive an item as I've ordered it.

The salad consisted of a bunch of leaves with a couple cucumbers, nothing else though. What I didn't like, is you have to pay for parking now. You had two options before; self-park OR valet. Now you can ONLY valet, and it's $25. Even locals have to pay! Reason for the changes, the Marriott bought Pelican, so new changes and new fees for guests. If you do go, please make sure you leave the employees CASH tip because if you leave it on the card, they do NOT get the tips. The Marriott keeps it, and the employees see none of it. It's the principle of the situation for me, so for those reasons, no more Pelican for me.

I think the mild glare I was giving might have registered. After that mishap, we were seated and everything was fine. If you like fish, this is probably a good restaurant choice. I ate the roast chicken, which was very tender. My husband, who does not eat fish or red meat, was extremely challenged, as there were only a few things he could eat on the menu. (He decided on the gnocchi; it was OK... I thought the sauce could have used a little more flavor.) My mum dined on the branzino; the orzo that accompanied it was tasty. I think you're mostly paying for the environment here; the setting is lovely overlooking the Pelican Hill pool. Would like to come back but perhaps in the afternoon. (They did have the heaters turned on in the evening.) 2024: 96/100
We went around early dinner and we were able to get an outdoor table with an amazing view quickly. The outdoor tables have a view of the pool area. We got the paccheri pasta and it was a good portion and is very flavorful. However, I thought the lemon rinds were a bit too overpowering in the dish. Overall, you should expect this place to be a bit pricier but the food options are still tasty and the service is great.
I made reservation on Open Table for 5 guests for noon today. We got seated at 12:25pm. The ambiance is amazing. The presentation of the dishes were quite nice. Rico was our server. He was maybe overwhelmed or something, but he was behind on water refills, bringing items such as my toast, powered sugar for my guest, etc... The food was tasty and good quality. Parking is wither valet or self parking. May try dinner in the spring time.

They have salad, burger, sandwich, pasta, steak, fish tacos, some appetizers like Italian Margherita flat bread, something basic and desserts like Gelato. We ordered the flat bread and guess what? The dough was completely burned. OMG!! My wife claimed to ask a new one right away. How weird to start the appetizer..... I got wagyu burger w chardonnay, my wife had filet mignon w fries, our friends had same wagyu burger, beer battered fish taco. Everything was good but my wife told me, the steak was not tender, flavorful, not worthy to pay $56. She was really disappointed. Because she is from Paris, she knows all french cuisines. Anyway, ambiance and view were absolutely wonderful on the Pelican hill. Overall, the quality of the foods are not 5 stars even thou the popular Pelican resort Newport Beach. And also, we went to the café to have some desserts but not much selections for the cakes or tartlette. We got cappuccino, latte, velvet cake, and Danish pastry. I couldn't get the real desserts for me. Pros Ambiance, view: 5 stars Parking: either self or valet Cons Price, quality: 3 stars Menu: not much selections for lunch, very limited Even desserts. Overall, we had a great time hanging out in Newport beach. I want to suggest they can control the qualities, more flavorful, to present the real upscale restaurant.
I was so excited to go to eat lunch w my friends of mine today. Thanks God!! The rain was on the way but just cloudy until I was on the road back to home. First, the view was awesome w Pelican golf course, big outdoor pool, and patio area w heaters. The menu was simple and I barely ordered the appetizer, margherita flat bread to share and some wines, Chardonnay, champagne for drinks. For entrées, they have burger, sandwich, fish tacos, steak & frites, salmon, some pastas, and salad. Not much selections for lunch. When the server brought our flat bread, I got shocked. The dough was completely burned....OMG!!! I couldn't eat any slices to start. I claimed the server and she brought us a new one. I believe that this restaurant is in the Pelican resort in Newport Beach. How come the chef burned the flat bread???? No idea!!! In conclusion, I got filet mignon w frites, brocollinis, my hubby had wagyu burger, my friend had fish tacos, wagyu burger w French fries w truffle. To be honest, my filet mignon was so dried, not tender, any flavors....so dissappinted. Even frites!!! So basic, another french fries w Truffle is basic. But wagyu burger was great. My hubby and friend liked it. I am from Paris and I've used to all french cuisines for years. Might be too much to expect this restaurant??? It didn't meet my expectation today. Burned flat bread, dried filet mignon w basic french fries for $56. Dissapointed! For ambiance, I give 5 stars. The parking is optional either valet or self parking in the parking structure. For café near lobby was another dissapointing. No desserts for me, only some macarons, few pastries, and some Gelato, I am wondering why I got here to have desserts. We got cappuccino, latte, some pastries, and last velvet cake in the display. Anyway we pay the view, ambiance for this fancy restaurant. Not the quality of foods.... Overall, I had a great time w my friends but the quality of foods are less than 4 stars. I think they need to upgrade the quality to serve real cuisines for the customers.
Came here for a friend's birthday brunch. The ambience is simply beautiful when you're looking out the balcony and seeing lush greenery and blue water. The staff is top notch and our server Adriana was wonderful. We ordered drinks which were nice and refreshing. For our entrees with ordered bruleee oatmeal, brioche french toast, wagyu burger, club sandwich, and avocado toast. The oatmeal had a nice caramelized top and had a variety of fruit and nuts that added a depth of texture and flavor. The oatmeal itself was sadly bland. The brioche french toast was nice and custardy. It was served with maple syrup that came in a sealed bottle which I appreciated. The wagyu burger was served in generous portions and was cooked as requested. It also came with a side salad that was fresh and crisp. The burger patty could use a bit more seasoning though. The club sandwich was delicious and came with a good amount of hot and crispy truffle fries. Avocado toast had plenty of flavor and was pretty filling. It was a great experience overall but improvements on some of the food items could be made.

I would say mixed reviews when I ate at the Coliseum Pool and Grill while staying at Pelican Hill. I ate here twice while on a weekend holiday, both during their brunch times. My initial stop was later in the day so opted for the burger and I wish I hadn't - it was bland and had no unique characteristics that I would expect for something over $30. The chips were good as a side. End of the meal, my bill was over $90 (I had a couple of beers with my meal) and not worth it even with the great views and expected hotel prices. My experience drastically changed when I came for breakfast the following day. I had the buttermilk pancakes, buratta and a side of bacon. All were excellent, full of flavor and felt like I got my money's worth (even if not cheap). To close, the service was exceptional, including a shout out to Edward my server who was super friendly and chased me down when I forgot my hat at the table. read more
Very odd to not see the Coliseum Pool and Grill not super full. The summer time is usually jammed due to the large round pool. Still a great vibe and we came for just a drink at the bar. The service ranks above many places and Katie our Bartender was fantastic! Valet is $25 but for guest it's free. read more

We had an incredible time here, the atmosphere is really pretty and relaxing with a few of the pool and ocean. The service was exceptional and the food was fantastic. You can't go wrong coming here. read more

Love coming here for a light dinner and drinks and a spectacular sunset! This time we came for an early lunch and always great service by the staff. The Cesar salad is always a winner ! Free valet if eating at the restaurant. read more

I'm so disappointed in my experience here. The service was five--Angel, you're the best. The view is stunning and my expectations were high. I ordered the chopped salad and I triple asked/checked that the breast of chicken on top would be fresh off the grill. (aka Joey who's chicken at every visit including yesterday, I don't think ever touches a refrigerator). The chicken wasn't fresh at all, very chewy and tough. I ate every bite, because that's how I roll. I asked (did not complain) and paid for another breast of chicken so I could take the remainder of an otherwise delicious salad home. I told a server who eventually relayed to my server that the chicken wasn't fresh and please charge me and order another chicken breast. I begged him to relay to make sure that the chicken was fresh, cooked on the grill and immediately placed on my salad. It wasn't. Matter of fact it was so salty I couldn't eat it. I'm so disappointed...I had a choice to go to Javier's where I knew everything would be a home run, but decided/chose to go to The Grill at Pelican Resort. I'm a Marriott person, I know how expensive it is to stay there and I KNOW what the standard should be. I hate leaving a low review but I am compelled because I gave them two chances to give me what should've been a no brainer. The $200 bill stings, but because they did it, I get to talk about it. We came in for some drinks after thanksgiving brunch at the golf club restaurant of this luxury resort. This pool side restaurant was serving thanksgiving brunch buffet too but at a slightly lower price. The bar was nice with extensive choices of alcohol. The cocktail menu was so good especially those coconut tropical drinks. Hubby and I decided on our usual Vesper martini and espresso martini. Both cocktails were very well made and great pours. The prices were reasonable for a five star luxury resort in my opinion. Our bartender was very friendly. I think this restaurant and bar is perfect for a nice sunny day to sit outside. I will definitely try one of those coconut drinks next time! read more

Incredible views from every seat. Staff was all very friendly and accommodating. Food was very good. Cocktails were unique and very tasty. We also love they take dogs on the patio. Always a treat to bring our furry babies with us. read more

An absolute gem in OC! One of the most romantic place with a breath taking views and an amazing place to watch the sunset. One of the best location I have ever been to. Caught the sunset and had dinner here. I had the scallops for dinner and they were ok. The view and drinks were good! Tough to find this place and reservations is a must. The view, once again is breathtaking! Good place for special occasion like a proposal! 5 stars for the view 4 stars for the drinks 3.5 stars for the food read more

I am such a fan of this place. From being able to see the resort while you arrive, to dining with one of the most beautiful views in OC, this place is recommend for all.of.the.things. The food is delicious. My favorite is definitely the burger and fries. It just goes well w/ the pool view. Service is top notch and they make you feel comfortable and cared for. After a couples spa service we were looking for a casual healthy lunch. We walked in without reservations with a party of 4 around 12:30 on a Sunday and were seated after about a 10 minute wait. Ordered the Caesar salad with chicken and the poke. They split each dish for easy sharing. The salad was excellent with nicely grilled tender chicken and crispy lettuce and a few white anchovies. The pole was flavorful seedbed with avocado over a bed of white rice. Service was very friendly. read more

This place was one of my top power lunch and dinner spots, and it's now back on the list- hopefully for good. I was really miffed when I received horrible service here during the pandemic, but the new team here has really turned things around! I have been dining here with friends and biz associates more frequently (and every week pre pandemic.), and our experiences have been very pleasant. I love the ambiance here and everyone from service staff to management has been great. John Lee, one of the managers, is an absolute dear. It's always nice to see him as he's kind and always makes sure my party is well taken care of when he is around. The gal who was very off putting back in the covid days does not work here anymore... thank goodness! I think my entire party spent a minimum of 21K during the time we stayed at the resort and she had the nerve to try and kick us out of our cabana because our server wanted to go home. Thank goodness they hired better staff who actually care about providing great client service since that unfortunate incident. Anyhow, The food is always great, drinks are good, the views are breathtaking, and everyone who works here is lovely. I'm happy I chose to come back and I will continue to come back with family, friends, and biz associates as this is truly a fabulous place! Good food, good service, and stellar views... what's there not to like? :) I also loved how kind they were to my vivacious toddler. She had a blast, Enjoyed the grounds, and I got a great workout chasing her around the coliseum pool, hahaha. See you guys again soon. Looking forward to our next visit :) read more

SELF-PARKING CAR IN PELICAN RESORT COVERED PARKING STRUCTURE - PARKING IS FREE. On a sunny Wednesday morning, I self-parked my car in the main covered parking structure located near the main entrance of the Pelican Resort. Then I walked to the Coliseum Pool & Grill to meet another friend for breakfast. Although the Pelican resort also provides valet parking service, I didn't use it because I enjoy the short walk from the main parking structure to the Coliseum Grill. COLISEUM POOL & GRILL - FRIENDLY GREETING. As soon as my friend and I walked into the reception area of the Coliseum Grill, we were promptly greeted by the friendly Coliseum staff. We were seated at an outdoor table overlooking the big pool and golf course. The outdoor scenery and ambiance was very peaceful and beautiful. COLISEUM WAITSTAFF - EFFICIENT AND ATTENTIVE. Our table waitstaff was efficient, professional and friendly. He answered all of our questions and delivered excellent customer service for the entire time we dined at the Coliseum Grill. BREAKFAST - MEAL WAS DELICIOUS. For breakfast, I ordered two scrambled eggs, bacon, sourdough toast and potatoes. My meal was pricey, but delicious! The scrambled eggs were fluffy and plentiful, the bacon strips were big and flavorful, and the sourdough toast was amazing! I didn't eat the potatoes because I was too full from eating everything else! My friend ordered pancakes and said they were delicious. Our meals were fantastic! read more

Service and food were terrific! The view is priceless, the food is on the high priced side for what you are getting, but you are paying for service and ambiance. It can be a little noisy when the pool is busy. If you are looking for quieter, try the Pelican Grill. Still worth a visit if you haven't been. read more

Is this a good spot for a birthday dinner? I've already been to Pelican Hill so I wanted something a little new / how do people dress here?
Yes. Inside is really classy. You can be as dressed up as you want & outside it over looks the pool & you can dress how you like. It's a mix of smart casual to dressy but all are nice.
Is their Sunday brunch worthwhile? Planning a small baby shower and wondering if this was a better option vs pelican hill grill?
Yes. I would say “if” the shower is going to be a celebration/little loud, the outer dining area is a more appropriate venue. Both are worthy of your visit.
