I have not been impressed at any restaurant in a very long time but pelican aisle really impressed me today I order Chito at every restaurant we go to for breakfast and sometimes I'm happy and sometimes not so happy but I've never been fully impressed like I was today! This is a great spot for locals. This is on the water and the open door just lets that wonderful breeze come through. This is a spot that we tried for both lunch, dinner and late night drinks. Everyone is super nice here and attentive, even when it is rocking! The food is hit or miss. I would highly suggest their pizza with the thin crust as it is exceptional. I did not like the regular crust as much, but the taste of the crust is overall good as they make it in-house. Drinks were great. My friend, her dog and I had the best visit at Pelican Isle's back patio, overlooking the marina, with a mountain backdrop. Vinny was our server, and she was the best! She was friendly, informative and fun. Our breakfast was kind of an afterthought, as we hadn't seen each other in years, and her dog was interested in the passersby. What a cute spot! Located right on the water in Sunset/Huntington Beach, this place has great views and amazing nautical old-school vibes. Plenty of parking in the huge lot, indoor and outdoor seating, very clean restrooms and is dog friendly! The location is great and the food is always yummy! My favorite entree is the crab stuffed shrimp. I also love the Mexican shrimp cocktail as a starter and the sliders. For sandwiches we love the Cuban and all of the burgers! The service is always pretty good here and the only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because we typically have to wait awhile after we're seated for a server to greet us and our drinks often take a pretty long time, along with ordering. However, the servers are always very nice and we just expect to wait a bit longer for service if we're out on the patio. We tried Pelican Isle last week for Lunch. It is conveniently half way between our two homes. In the heart of Sunset Beach right next to Mothers Market the joint is right on the marina. The view of the boats and water is very pleasant. The place was quiet on a Wednesday lunchtime. The service was friendly if not attentive. I can't remember the meal as great it was more "meh". Came in on a whim while looking for a breakfast joint by the beach and this place hit it out of the park. A very rustic/sailor theme inside plenty of seating inside and outside. I opted to sit outside you get a beautiful view of the marina and mountains in the distance. Leo was mu server and he was very attentive and quick with his services. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs with home fries and wow its a pretty hefty plate steak was fried perfectly the gravy was smoky and packed with flavor. This was hard...... beautiful atmosphere. Everything else was disappointing to say the least. We are five and they told us to sit anywhere, none was for five so we sat at a 4 top and had to find a chair on our own. Then the hostess brought menus. Drinks took forever, then we had four adults and one child. Three of us got drinks, then we got appetizers, then my husband finally got his drink and then we had to ask to order our food. We finally get food and not only is one entire meal missing, my husband ordered the special and got a different order. The missing meal was Chicken Parm and she got the sandwich. We had to ask FOUR times for water no one ever came back for drinks. The icing on the cake we finally ordered our second round and she came back with 3 out of 4 drinks?! I am giving a 3 for inconsistency I went on June 13 and had delicious ceviche it had chili flakes, purple onion, big cut shrimp. Jalapeños. Lime it was delicious. I have been there 5 or 6 times now, mostly business, but with my wife as well, and we have enjoyed the food every visit. Although the wait can be extensive at times, it is well worth it to enjoy this food! Ahi salad, Salmon salad, ceviche, burger, halibut steak - excellent quality, beautiful presentation, and a wonderful range of flavors and textures! Nice view of the harbor, too! I know from having owned one that a restaurant cannot often help being slower to serve its clientele when they are packed, and this place is almost always packed when we come in. But, this is expected of a great restaurant, isn't it? Despite this, I always feel seen and cared for, and I appreciate the hard effort the wait staff put in to get us served. Went to Pelican for karoake on a Saturday night at 7 PM, Long time customer of Pelican Isle 10 plus years. After waiting awhile for our order of nachos which shouldn't take too long because it was not crowded that early in the evening, we cancelled the order because we no longer wanted to wait. On top of this which made matters worse, there were only about 6 singers. I was one of 3 to first get in the que. The KJ called all the other 5 singers and he sang 4 times before finally calling me up, but not before he called a singer up who sang Gold Digger which has disgusting lyrics and offensive words, we were out of there. We did want to listen to this offensive music. Why would Management allow this in a bar restaurant that families bring children too, let alone their customers having to be subjected to this when they are there to enjoy a meal and/or cocktails??? Who wants to hear that inappropriate music when going out wanting a pleasant evening. Other responsible KJs I have experienced would tell the singer to pick another song if their song had inappropriate words or content. We left and do not intend on ever going back. read more

Great menu here - lots of options! The fried artichoke hearts were yummy and my hubby loved his calzone. I thought the chicken sandwich was just okay, chicken tasted more boiled than grilled. Onion rings were good though. All the food seemed very home-made which was a plus and we'd come back to try more. Shorty, our waiter, and his son (the host) were incredible. I haven't felt like family in a restaurant in a long time and Shorty totally made our experience. I can't say enough good things about him. The reason I'm giving it three stars is really just because they charge a 3% fee on the bill for using a credit card. Now, they're not selling $3 hot dogs. Our bill for four people was almost $140. Did you expect me to pay that in cash??! I own a business too. The cost of doing business is built in to my prices and I think everyone should be doing this. There's already tax and tip on top of my bill, don't make me now have to see another line item for credit card charge. Been coming there since it was JDee's a hundred years ago...always a great spot, especially on warmer days when it was delightfully cooler than any inland locations. I know Dave the owner, and we have been friends for a long time. So it pains me to report my disdain with 2 things: the recent substantial price increase of well drinks ($2.50) and incorrect prices on the menu. I ordered the Open-faced Ribeye Steak sandwich...price charged was $2 more than menu price. Not cool. I understand the "looking @ the Water pricing" but this is excessive in my humble opinion. read more

We come here 2 to 3 times a month. In the last 2 months I have been served bad crab in the seafood stew and last night 6/17 I ordered the Lobster Tostada (taco salad with lobster and shrimp) they forgot the salad part in which they brought out a plate of lettuce to correct it but now I have bad seafood farts and an unstable stomach. Wife ordered a dry sandwich and came with all the sauces. The kitchen seems like they don't care what's coming out anymore or the management ain't managing. Horrible! The base on the blaring sound system was so loud that I couldn't hear the person sitting on the right or left of me - no less those accross the table. The chicken & fries were not really eatable. I would suggest they buy the frozen dyson chicken at costco and air fry that and serve it. Came here on a Saturday midday and was able to sit outside and enjoy the view. It is very American pride type of bar and establishment. The service was average. It took quite a while for the drinks and food to come out and the waiter completely forgot about our appetizer that we ordered. The lemon drop was really good and the pizza was surprisingly delicious. I had a cheese pizza with pesto sauce on top and my guest had a veggie burger, and they stated that it was a well-made veggie burger. Came to Pelican Island on Friday night to celebrate my birthday with a friend of mine. I ordered tuna salad. Tuna was dry and overcooked . The waiter was rude. He is a short Hispanic man who was very aggressive. We couldn't order a second round of glass of champagne and a coke for a half an hour and then my friend just walked to the bar bought a champagne and coke from the bartender and carried it by himself. For the rest of our evening at the Pelican Island restaurant the waiter didn't come to our table. Very bad service and bad quality food. I don't recommend this restaurant! read more

My family and I came after a beautiful day hiking in the wetlands and I was really craving a shrimp cocktail. We had our little dog with us so we needed somewhere with a patio. We thought we hit the jackpot with a patio for our buddy boy. Our kids are almost 2 and 4; they had a high chair for our youngest which was a also a score, because my bf chose the place...I didn't realize it was a full on bar/ grill and not a "restaurant". It was definitely more of dive bar scene environment with a kitchen. We sit down, they give us our menus and we order a round of waters. The young lady comes back, starts handing the drinks and spills a whole tray of ice waters on my almost 2 years old head. She is drenched,crying, and freezing. She apologizes and, yes it was an accident but she was drenched. So my bf takes her to the car to change her and mind you we haven't even order our meals yet. Just a shrimp cocktail and the pizza the girls will share. The pizza arrives but my daughter and bf are still outside getting changed. It's doughy and a bit undercooked (in my opinion-nothing special) They come back,we order a tuna melt w/chili cheese fries & a calzone w/ a clam chowder. two beers, 1 non alcoholic beer, and two chocolate milks The food finally comes I take one bite and there is a small hair, like a pubic hair (I kid you not!) I'm disgusted and send my food back. There is no coming back from that. Now my bf is worried about eating his food. They never bring his clam chowder so when we could get her attention- i send my food back and don't ask for anything else- we cancel his chowder and ask for the bill. We get the bill and they don't offer any discount for any of the mistakes or for giving my 2 year old an ice bath. She does say she gave one beer and the chocolate milks off the bill. So they believe that, the three comp drinks were sufficient enough of a kind gesture for making my child cry and drenching her in ice water, giving me hair in my sand which, and neglecting to be attentive or bring out our whole order. Just wild. Having worked not only in bars but in the service industry, I would have made it a point to be 1. As attentive as possible (especially if I made a child cry-which I never have because you don't EVER hang food/drinks over children/people) 2. Food being prepared unsanitary, 3. Going above and beyond and rectifying for all those discrepancies. Then to end it all, she doesn't give us a credit card recipe to be signed, just the customer copy. Which is another red flag, because employees have been known (not here/but other places) to hand write their own tips and what not. My bf checks his cards daily and multiple times, so we aren't worried about that...but over all wild experience. Clear as day....we won't be back.
