Pelicana is a national/global chain, but it finally came to Michigan and has opened up in Rochester Hills as their only location within Michigan currently. They opened not too long ago and are independently franchised, AAPI-owned and the business owners who run Pelicana are truly the kindest and most delightful people I have encountered in a long while! It's tucked away in the corner of the strip mall/plaza that is across Walton from Rochester High, so it's in a pretty great location within the city, but can be hard to miss if you're not looking for it given it's positioning within the plaza, so make sure to keep an eye out! The service is phenomenal and their menu is filled with so many goodies! They are known for their fried chicken, but I actually find other items on their menu to be much more favorable to me, personally! I love their bulgogi burger, tteokbokki, corn cheese, and corn dogs! They also serve a ton of other traditional, well-known Korean dishes and street food, so the menu is very dynamic and you can order something a little different every single time! My personal showstopper were the sweet red bean balls! I'm not normally a person with a huge sweet tooth, but these were the perfect blend of savory and sweet for me and packaged in such a unique way that I had never tried before! I'll definitely be back soon to try other items I have my eye on, like their kimchi fried rice, other types of tteokbokki, the kimmari, and of course now that summer is here...the BINGSU! The absolute perfect and most refreshing dessert for summertime!

Decided to try this place out one night with friends. We got their chicken wings, tteokbokki, omurice, onions rings and another food I forgot the name (see photos). Overall really good!!! Place is nice and clean and there's a good amount of seats for dining with friends or solo. Very casual. Workers are really nice as well! Parking is all good because it's in a plaza. Highly recommend trying this place out!

Always the deal-breaker for us is customer service. If I could give 10-stars, I would. The owners and staff at this location are friendly, helpful, attentive servers. We are destined to become loyal customers just to say hello. The restaurant has a small dining room which is neat and clean. Nothing extraordinary but comfy. I enjoyed exploring the shelves of Korean products available for purchase. Full disclosure: I lean toward favoring restaurants with healthy food options and fresh veggies. My inner nutrition-guide whispers to me that while very flavorful and delicious, Pelicana may not be a weekly indulgence. Seriously, while I love fried chicken with a tasty dipping sauce, how many wings can my arteries handle without talking back? The wings were perfectly crispy and above average in flavor on their own. We really enjoyed the garlic-honey sauce. Rating: 4-stars. I reasoned the spicy noodle bowl with chicken dumplings would be comforting on a cold November night (it was the perfect choice) and OK on the nutrition scale. It was flavorful albeit salty. Enjoyed the dumplings. I'm not a big noodle lover but it was filling. Would step it up a notch if there were fresh steamed veggies added to the dish. A solid 4-stars. We would like to return to try their rice stir fries and maybe sample some other dishes that would be new to our palate. Really glad this little restaurant came to our neck of the woods. Nice compliment to the other interesting ethnic food choices on the corner of Walton and Livernois in Rochester Hills.

Went back to Pelicana while waiting on an appointment. Decided to try the Ugly Chicken Sandwich and some fries. I asked for the original spicy chicken with Truffle Mayo. It comes with pickles and shredded cabbage on the sandwich and a small side of coleslaw. That's an odd choice with more cabbage, but it was ok. The sandwich wasn't particularly spicy and it was really just a bit blah, and unexciting. The fries had a texture like Checkers/Rally but not the spice. They also lacked zip. And a tiny cup of ketchup didn't match the 'I need a box to take the rest home' portion size. Service was fine, but a little slow. It is clear yhat they're making everything fresh which is appreciated. There's still other things on the broad menu I want to try but the Ugly Chicken Sandwich probably won't get revisited. The wings were much better.

Quick little sit down specializing in Korean Fried Chicken. The portions are plentiful and the chicken was delicious. Order at the counter. Sit and go. We were served quick and with care. Tteokbokki was delicious, the sauce was perfectly balanced, not too sweet. Got the 14 pc wings, theyre gigantic, could have definitely went with the 7pc, not complaining as it was amazing!

Very authentic Korean fried chicken restaurant tucked into an unassuming little strip mall. There's so much more than chicken too (but don't pass that up because it's tender and delicious!). The Ugly Chicken Sandwich and bulgogi burger were delicious but our favorite part of the meal were the beef fried dumplings. We will definitely be making this a regular spot for lunch or dinner!

Nice new addition to the Rochester area! It appears that Korean chicken shops are the rage now with bbq.Chicken and Bonchon close by in Troy and LA Hot Chicken not far as well. My review is based on the WHOLE Whole Chicken and Kimchee Fried Rice. For the Whole Chicken, it's a whole chicken cut up and fried as half-breasts, thighs and wings. My sauces were half Sweet & Spicy and Honey Garlic ordered as CRISPY (Extra crispy and double-battered and savory). I recently ordered from bbq.Chicken and I would have to say that I enjoyed the flavor at Pelicana over bbq.Chicken. For starters, I enjoyed the sweet and spice but not anything that is going to burn my mouth or have repercussions later. The flavor of Sweet & Spicy Level 1 was very good and will probably try Level 2 for just a little bit more kick next time. Comparing to bbq.Chicken, where Hot Spicy is not even edible. I also found the Honey Garlic to be delish! In terms of crispiness, I may have to order dine-in instead of carry-out or just order without any sauces. I think the venting in the boxes steams the chicken such that by the time I get home, the chicken is not as crispy as I thought it would be. As far as portions, each piece was a little smaller that what I am typically used to and for better or worse, the batter was somewhat on the light side (considering I ordered it as CRISPY). I found the Kimchee Fried Rice quite good but I would say for the price, remove the salad and fill it up! I'll need to visit this place one more time, perhaps dine-in and sauce on the side. Very good chicken and flavor but I'd like it to be more crispy!

I was very excited to try out this Korean place, but food did not live up to my expectations. We got a variety of things: - Bulgogi burger was very mediocre, nothing special, definitely not worth $12.99. The buns came cold (not room temp but cold). We actually asked them to heat it up. Beef patty is also small. Would rate it 2/5. - Jumbo wings are truly jumbo. Lightly fried to our liking. But the garlic sauce that we picked wasn't ideal. It was way too saucy even though we asked for light sauce. Overall 3/5. - Tteokbokki was probably the best we've ordered. Added ramen for $2 extra. Flavor is good. Good balance of fish cake, rice cake and some vege. 5/5. - Omurice was very disappointing. We were told by the cashier that their fried rice is amazing hence the order. But found the rice to be very hard. They said they use leftover rice from the night before, which is not unusual, but maybe the rice dried out too much overnight. We actually talked to the owner and got a refund for this. 1/5. On a positive note, the restaurant is nice and clean. Service is also good. Probably wouldn't return for the food though.

Overall this place is pretty cute! I really enjoyed the decor. I forgot to get a picture of the self service station but it beat my expectations. They had little bowls and plates, metal utensils, wooden chopsticks, plastic gloves, and wet naps. This restaurant knows that when you want to some Korean fried chicken, you want to eat with your hands so the gloves were a nice touch! The corn cheese was to be expected. I wish there was more sprinkled cheese in it to prevent the long strings of cheese you get so it's easier to eat. The chicken was soft and relatively crispy. I feel that kimchi box has this place beat on chicken but overall it was delicious!

Came here for lunch with a friend and it was delicious! The service was fast and helpful for suggestions. I loved everything we tried. Didn't get a photo of all but we ordered Rose Tteokbokki (which was my favorite hands down), Spicy Crispy Ugly Chicken Sandwich with truffle mayo, Kimmari and Dumplings. Will be back for sure!

I grabbed a menu and began my search for my fated dish. Having always been a fan of teriyaki chicken, that's what I went ahead and ordered. The staff, in the little interaction I had was friendly and the food came out promptly. Unlike some teriyaki chicken, this was thankfully not fatty and made for a pleasant dining experience. The avocado was fresh, and the bottled sauces that were included offered incredible flavor! I would say, from the meal, my favorite dishes were the chicken itself the kimchi (which was extra) and the noodles pictured in the bottom right (which I do not know their name). They were cold, which I believe is how they are served but they were really good and meaty! The kimchi was delicious and paired SO well with the dish! My only complaints were with the rice and the drinks. I was not really a fan of the texture of the rice and the soda was a bit flat. Overall I would rate Kimchi box a 4/5. A charming and clean establishment in its own right and I would gladly go back, especially to have some revitalizing food on a cool rainy day!

My meal (spicy Chang's chicken full size) was meager at best. I am used to taking some food home but finished it all. I'm thinking the portions are now also reduced yet not the prices. The miso soup came out first and was pretty standard. The Tako Su had large slices of octopus with plenty of cucumbers. It was decent, nothing standout. The gyoza was actually an accidental order because I thought I had ordered shumai. Looking back, I probably should've realized something was off when the server asked if I wanted them steamed or grilled. Ironically, they ended up being one of the better items. I took them home and even cold later on, they were still good. The sashimi appetizer had a nice variety and was probably one of the stronger dishes of the night. Unfortunately, the shumai completely missed the mark. It was very wet -- you can even see it in the photo -- and just not how shumai is supposed to be prepared. Personally, I think Asahi Sushi does this dish far better, including the sauce. The beef bibimbap was also disappointing for me. I love bibimbap served in a scorching hot stone bowl where the rice crisps up and caramelizes at the bottom. This lacked all of that. In my opinion, both Asahi Sushi and Sumo Sushi do bibimbap significantly better. If that's what you're craving, this wouldn't be my recommendation. As for the sushi rolls -- the S n T and White Tiger Roll -- they were just bland. Not terrible, not inedible, but very forgettable. Overall, my experience was okay, but nothing about it stood out enough to make me want to return. The servers were pleasant, but there were no recommendations or guidance offered, and the food never really moved beyond average. I ended up giving this place 2 stars for three main reasons: 1. The servers lacked recommendations or menu guidance. 2. The food overall was bland. 3. There are significantly better sushi options nearby. If you're looking for exceptional sushi, udon, and bibimbap, I'd personally recommend Asahi Sushi instead. It's only about 12 minutes away and, in my opinion, absolutely worth the drive for the quality, presentation, service, and overall experience.

The menu consists of 8 or 9 combination plates which are displayed by pictures printed on a cheap printer and taped unevenly above the register. All combination plates seem to be different variations of the same 4 or 5 ingredients. If the limited menu wasn't disappointing enough, the taste of the food delivered the finishing blow.
