I've been wanting to try this spot for a while, so I ordered a little bit of everything: miso soup, Tako Su, gyoza, shumai, sashimi appetizer, beef bibimbap, and two sushi rolls -- the S n T and White Tiger Roll. The miso soup came out first and was pretty standard. The Tako Su had large slices of octopus with plenty of cucumbers. It was decent, nothing standout. The gyoza was actually an accidental order because I thought I had ordered shumai. Looking back, I probably should've realized something was off when the server asked if I wanted them steamed or grilled. Ironically, they ended up being one of the better items. I took them home and even cold later on, they were still good. The sashimi appetizer had a nice variety and was probably one of the stronger dishes of the night. Unfortunately, the shumai completely missed the mark. It was very wet -- you can even see it in the photo -- and just not how shumai is supposed to be prepared. Personally, I think Asahi Sushi does this dish far better, including the sauce. The beef bibimbap was also disappointing for me. I love bibimbap served in a scorching hot stone bowl where the rice crisps up and caramelizes at the bottom. This lacked all of that. In my opinion, both Asahi Sushi and Sumo Sushi do bibimbap significantly better. If that's what you're craving, this wouldn't be my recommendation. As for the sushi rolls -- the S n T and White Tiger Roll -- they were just bland. Not terrible, not inedible, but very forgettable. Overall, my experience was okay, but nothing about it stood out enough to make me want to return. The servers were pleasant, but there were no recommendations or guidance offered, and the food never really moved beyond average. I ended up giving this place 2 stars for three main reasons: 1. The servers lacked recommendations or menu guidance. 2. The food overall was bland. 3. There are significantly better sushi options nearby. If you're looking for exceptional sushi, udon, and bibimbap, I'd personally recommend Asahi Sushi instead. It's only about 12 minutes away and, in my opinion, absolutely worth the drive for the quality, presentation, service, and overall experience. read more

Really glad I came here and gave this place a try since I live nearby. I wish I came here sooner. The food was incredible and the sushi tasted fresh. The flaming crunch roll was SO GOOD and they had really good spicy mayo which can be hard to find sometimes. My boyfriend also enjoyed the omurice dish and said it was good. Prices were fair as well. Overall it's a neat little place with good decor and good service. I'll definitely be back and am happy I found this place! read more

Raw fish/seafood (fresh) small bite sized pieces. Assorted thinly sliced vege (seaweed, cucumber). Side hot rice. Spicy sauce on side. in a disproportionately big bowl. It was exactly what I needed and the hot sauce was perfect compliment and added necessary kick. Minus 1 for service. -no one served us after water. Yes it was busy but we felt neglected and we had to track someone to order and ask questions. -no one got us to go boxes or check at the end. Minus 1 for the menu -it was disorganized in the sense they had a whole menu with verbal descriptions and prices like the way it is traditionally, but another menu with just pictures and NO PRICES that DON'T NECESSARILY match up with the verbal menu. We searching all over and still couldn't find it. It shouldn't be like that. Also there was bento box pictured on yelp. We asked if their dinner bento was like what was pictured and they said no but COULDN'T tell us what was in it exactly. They didn't know their menu very well. read more

This the best sushi in metro Detroit. It's incredibly fresh and I'm not sure what they do differently, but their food is just better than their competition's! I've never had a bad meal and have tried so many different things on their menu. The service is absolutely incredible. They have been kind to me since I started coming here years ago, and treat me like family. The wait staff is always kind and works very hard, even when they are incredibly busy. This was our first visit, I was craving sushi and ramen. It filled up pretty fast after we arrived. Staff was very friendly and attentive. They have a really great menu which makes ordering hard, everything looks great! I had the yum yum sushi roll and the ramen. Both were delicious. I have always been a fan of Sushi Kafe. However tonight I ordered the spicy pork which I have ordered several time before and it was always very good. Tonight it was almost inedible, while I am aware that the pork in the dish is on the fattier side I can say that there was almost no actual pork meat it was all white fat. We've come here for take out a few times during the pandemic and I hear good things about this place from friends and family and spoilers alert - it's lives up to the hype! Everyone was perfect. The flavors were perfect. Nothing was too salty or bland. The spicy tuna sandwich was super unique and tasty. The cucumber salad wet the appetite nicely at the beginning. The yaki udon texture was nice a chewy and the veg adds healthy and colorful touch and crunch! [yeah I don't overcooked veg] But the star is the sushi. I mean c'mon, it's called sushi kafe for a reason! The rice is special. Special. The texture is has this amazing softness, delicate mess, chewiness..etc. I don't even know how to describe it but it's amazing. Don't tell anybody but it might even be better than Nobel fish...shhhhhh. Anyway the ambiance is nice - not too big or small. And the service is great. We got checked on many times throughout and the food came out super fast. So come early for dinner - like 5pm weekday. Must come back and try all their rolls and dishes. We ate here for a Fridya night celebration dinner with our son. Sushi was fantastic, especially the YumYum roll and the Vegas roll. One of the better places I've had in Michigan! My friend and I came here on a Sunday evening, and we were promptly seated. We ordered two rolls and a tempura udon (not pictured). The udon noodles were cooked perfectly, with an excellent chewy texture. The broth was quite flavorful as well. The rolls were both quite tasty also. Stupendous! Amazing! Delectable! I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Why haven't I discovered this place before? We often frequent the bubble tea cafe next door and see this very unassuming restaurant. Then, one day I looked it up on yelp and found a dish we were searching for for a very long time, omurice. This is literally the only place I've seen it on the menu, so we had to run over here and try it. Worth it! The omurice is a delicious omelette with fried rice. We got the chicken. I think the whole family would enjoy it, so I will have to bring them back. We also tried the fried avocado appetizer stuffed with tuna and crab salad. My daughter reported it was the best thing she'd ever eaten. So good. I imagine we would have to order this item every time we visit. We also tried their okonomiyaki. It had chicken, squid and shrimp. It was very flavorful. I really enjoyed it. We also ordered a sweet potato roll. It was okay, but not as good as the other good. The potato was a bit al dente for my personal taste and not soft enough, but it was still pretty good. I would probably order some different rolls next time. The meal also came with miso and pickled cucumbers which were very tasty. There are so many other things on this menu I really wanted to try. I feel they have some unique offerings that are not found at equivalent restaurants in the area. The staff seemed friendly. It was actually pretty busy for a random weekday at 11:00 AM plus plenty of carry-out orders, which is a good sign for their business. We hope to be back soon to try more dishes. read more

If this has changed please reply back and tell me. Sushi with water does not have the same ring to it. But sushi with asahi, Kirin, Sapporo, even bud light. 2 futomaki added spinach to make it similar to a kimbap. The sushi chef was super flexible and accommodating and made us our very much craved kimbap. We also got the snow cone minus the masago and a firecracker roll less the shrimp. The futomaki rolls were so delicious, loved the addition of the avocado in it as well. They were so good we order 3 to go, they were $12.95/roll. The rolls were a bit pricey, though they were good, especially since I only pay $3/pack at this Korean market in Southfield. The snow cone was also quite delectable, could have eaten many more snow cones and made an entire meal of it even. The fire cracker roll was fantastic and was so piled on with crab salad, it was a mountain of loveliness. The house salad wasn't bad, the dressing wasn't my favorite and didn't have enough ginger essence for me. The sushi chefs were super cool and so accommodating and the waitstaff were really great about quelling our kimbap cravings by talking to the sushi chefs and the chefs for being so amenable to making these very specialized rolls for us. read more

I'm surprised I have not written a review for Sushi Kafe yet! My husband and I love this restaurant!! We ordered yum yum roll, caterpillar roll, and the triple spicy roll at our last visit. But you really can't go wrong with any of their special rolls!! We also enjoy their omurice and chicken tonkatsu as well. The ramen is huge portion but it tastes just ok. This has been our go to Sushi place in the area, however the service and quality have significantly gone down. Went there today, ordered a couple rolls, some appetizers and Spicy Yaki Udon noodles - no chicken, extra shrimp. However, when I got home and open the noodles container to make sure there wasn't chicken - I counted... 2 PIECES of cut up shrimp - that's all! I then called and spoke to Donna, who said "you're over exaggerating" dismissing my concerns. She was rude, patronizing and dismissive - constantly interrupting me. The sushi quality as well, isn't what it used to be. Overall, after this experience I will no longer support this local business... Especially after the rude customer service and the fact she hung up on me after basically saying I'm a liar. I paid $14 for greasy noodles with a couple pieces of broccoli and carrots, and a scarce two shrimp. Absolutely rude, especially for a long time customer. Rather than trying to come up with a resolution, my concerns as a paying customer where not important and her opinion took precedence over mine. read more
