I just don't understand the negative reviews for this place. This is probably my favorite Chinese restaurant in the metro area. I drive from Woodward and Square lake because of the quality and portion sizes and price. Metro Detroit has great Thai places but we have very few good Chinese restaurants. Wong's food reminds me of how Chinese restaurants used to be when I was growing up here. Everything is fresh and crisp and flavorful. The food feels more home made. They even have real home made hot mustard!! Most Chinese places give you that prepackaged garbage. The fried rice has actual pieces of egg in it and is made fresh. Most places give you that fried rice that tastes like prepackaged store bought low quality fried rice. Wong's tastes perfect. Their egg rolls are big and not greasy. The wonton soup is delicious. The dinner portions are huge. They don't skimp on the portion sizes like all the other places do. Their service has been spot on every time I've been there. Wait times are very reasonable, so I just am baffled by the negative reviews. It's really not a sit down place, so just be aware of that. Go for carry out. But the food speaks for itself. read more

What used to be the best Chinese food in town is now just so-so. The eggrolls used to be addictive, now they're just kind of flat and extremely greasy. The fried rice used to be moist and delicious, now it's just kind of dry and lack luster. The prices have gone up, The servings have gone down. Geographically, it's close to us, so if we're desperate for Chinese food, we'll go there, but if we have a little bit of time, we will travel a little farther to get something better. read more

Wow! The new version Wong's Garden has added Japanese (edamame, udon noodles, hibachi) and Thai dishes to the old menu items. My verdict: delicious. My vegetable udon noodles had just the warming feeling I wanted and were not greasy. My wife's pineapple chicken was breaded, hot, tasty, and flavorful without being spicy. House vegetables were also piping hot and done to the right crispness with a tasty sauce. The restaurant was busy when I came (word gets around) and I was impressed with the efficiency of the kitchen and register staff. They filled the orders quickly and well without being flummoxed. In short, the new Wong's is outstanding. I'll be coming here more often now. read more

Wong's is definitely my favorite carryout Chinese food place. Their sesame chicken is to die for! I also love their won ton soup and their sweet and sour chicken which happens to be my husbands favorite also. I love the fact that they have dinner rolls. Most carryout places do not. I am new in town and just ordered their Almond Boneless Chicken dinner for a whopping $14. Very disappointed. No almonds. No scallions, Chicken was too thick. Gravy sucked. Fried rice was barely edible. We called to tell them and the employee said "buy something else next time". C ya ! read more

We are big fans of Chinese food, but we're also really picky about it, so we tend to go back to the same places over and over. We were feeling kind of crazy today, so I googled "best Chinese food in Troy" and this place popped to the top of the list. The reviews were good, so we threw caution to the wind and decided to give it a try. We ordered a wide range of menu items so that we could get a true sense of what it was all about. The General Tso's Chicken was mentioned in many of the reviews and it definitely lived up to they hype. I also. Really liked the Crab Rangoons and the Shrimp Fried Rice. the Mongolian Beef was nice and tender, but the flavor was a little bland. The Pork Dumplings were good, but the Lo Mein was a little bland too. Some other items of note: There are several items on the menu that are listed as "hot and spicy" - they are neither of those things. They have a good COVID set up for carry out, but it confused me at first. Basically, you can't get past the entry foyer. I had a really hard time finding a Chinese restaurant in the area that I enjoyed until Wong's Garden came across my path! I usually get orange chicken and chicken lo mein to split with my boyfriend. They are both such delicious options! The orange chicken has the flavor you would expect, but in a good way. The chicken is tender and theres always lots of sauce which I prefer. The lo mein has veggies and tender chicken pieces so it could be a meal or a side. The portions are generous, the price is fair, and I love getting dinner here when I don't feel like cooking. We usually order take out online and pick up in store. The restaurant is small but there are a few tables if you wish to eat there. I have only interacted with the employees for pick up, but it's always been pleasant. Definitely a spot to try if you have been considering. The only complaint I have is that when you order online, you cannot pay online. This isn't usually an issue, but something to keep in mind. read more

Moved to Troy a few years ago right when Kim's (which seemed to be the area favorite) was closing. We slowly made our way through the Chinese restaurants in the area and this is my favorite! Some of the others are impossible to place an order at dinner time, some are rude and have cut me off before I even finished my order. Wong's is quick and friendly, they even have online ordering now which is generally my preferred method of ordering anywhere. The food is good and the portions are huge, my wife and I usually split the sesame chicken meal, wonton soup, and crab Rangoon. Prices are very reasonable. No sit down, only carry out. read more

Please support local-owned spots like this! I am happy to give Wong's 5 starts... it is really great "takeout Chinese" food. My husband is Chinese, and he even likes getting dishes from here! Our favorites are the Orange Chicken, Egg Foo Young, Curry Beef, and Vegetable Lo Mein. Ingredients have always been fresh, never over-cooked. Sauces are delicious and the meat always perfectly done (we have tried beef, chicken, and shrimp). We've gotten takeout at least a half dozen times over the last year and quality has been very consistent. The white rice is "eh" (par the course for Chinese takeout places) but always hot. Ordered the lunch combo beef lo Mein. Flavor was good but The noodles were super thin and I prefer thick. Meat was tough, Which is super disappointing because tender beef is one of the things I love about lo mein. Combo came with a side of chicken fried rice which was bland and what slight flavor I detected was unpleasant. The closest I could think to describe it is "old eggs". Egg roll was just okay. I like bean sprouts in my eggroll and while sprouts were present, There was an overwhelming flavor of cabbage. Best Chinese in Oakland county. The chicken is always incredible and fresh. Huge portions and crab wontons are amazing.

This was our first time as this establishment and based on the reviews, I was expecting a delicious meal - however it was not to be. We ordered the following: Won Ton Soup - C- Hot & Sour Soup - C- Egg Rolls - D Almond Chicken - C The soups were bland. The egg rolls were dry and small compared to other Chinese restaurants. Unfortunately, we would no longer recommend this restaurant. We used to order on a regular basis and the food was excellent. Even when the original owner sold to his relative several years ago it was still terrific. Over the past year I'm not sure what happened. They changed their plum sauce to something that's more vinegar tasting and not good. They changed some of their main dishes and, again, it was not for the good. Different flavors and different items put into the dishes. Tend to be salty. Very disappointing and now have to figure out where to start finding good Chinese food again. read more

Ok, been going here for over 20 years. The place has always been a solid 3.5 to 4 star Chinese restaurant. In recent years the quality has dipped some and we stopped going as often. I think primarily the quality has gone up and down with different ownership changes. They have clearly got new owners or hired a new cook. Tonight's meal was really excellent. I often get cashew chicken, it had more flavor tonight than I can remember in 15 years. Also got the wonton soup, which I usually hit with a fair amount of soy, didn't even need it tonight. The soup was very well seasoned. I usually get chicken fried rice, which has little tiny pieces of chicken in it and a small amount of flavor. Tonight's chicken fried rice was loaded with chicken and tasted amazing. Kudos l on the quality change! Looking forward to being more of a regular patron again. read more

I ordered online; it was my first time visiting this place for carryout. Where to begin...To start, the price was different when picking up the order from the price on the order summary online. (I ordered mushrooms to be added to a dish - and was charged about 20% of the actual dish cost - Disappointing. I understand a slight upcharge, but really?!) Back in town for a visit to find my favorite Chinese restaurant is gone so I tried Wongs. I was pretty impressed with the foods we ordered including Egg Foo Yung, Shrimp Subgum and Steak Kow, Rgg Rolls and Fried Rice. Driving home, the aroma in the car had my mouth watering. Food was very tasty. Portions on the large size. Prices good. They were careful with COVID to limit 1+at a time in the pick up lobby. Very friendly and polite. I will definitely return to this place. We have been going to Wong's for approx. 15 years and drive in from Rochester. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the year, the ownership changed without notice as did some of the way that the food was prepared. Different egg rolls, different sauces, different entrees and only have of it was good, the rest was not good and we would not order again. I ordered hot and sour soup & Schezwan chicken. Soup didn't really taste like what the previous owners served, but it wasn't bad. The Schezwan chicken was terrible. It was SWEET with very little sauce and veggies. I've given the new owners 3 chances over the years and I'm now done with them.
