Updated review. I've had a Pella door for a number of years now. The door developed some issues. No problem. It took some time and multiple contacts with Pella to resolve the issues with my door which are now solved. Pella has a local office 10 min away. BUT, to avoid having to drive over, I wanted to speak to someone in the office to get a local rep's phone number. However, they do NOT answer their phones. They want you to email or text your q to them and they are now making money off callers by having the text message CHARGED TO THE CUSTOMERS!!! I delayed this review because there was a fix that service needed to make and they did a great job. In all since buying our 1948 house in 2010, we knew we had a lot of work to do to make this house more efficient and Pella was the only company that was able to level-up to this task. We have known and work with Matt Eckerman since 2011. He help us with our first 13 doors and windows. He and his team of installers and servicemen just finished the final two patio doors of our efficiency project for our home and we love it. On October 18 Pella Windows & Doors dispatched four of their craftsmen to install a large bay window that had three important components: a large 12-pane window and two tall skinny windows that open with crank-out handles. The craftsmen were replacing an original bay window vintage 1948 which had deteriorated from wood rot. Miguel, Efrain, Francisco and Santos worked as an efficient team finishing earlier than expected. They were punctual, polite and professional. Because this long-deferred maintenance project was a big expense, I began my research in the summer. In my heart, I wanted Pella because when my late mother and I added a second level to the house in 1999, all the upstairs windows were architectural Pellas. Any new windows needed downstairs for the original 1948 historic beach cottage were also architectural Pellas. Despite my desire for continuity, I felt compelled to get bids from other contractors including Home Depot and Renewal by Anderson. I don't often choose the most expensive option when I engage in "due diligence" of gathering at least three estimates. As I expected, Pella was the most expensive; but it wasn't that much more expensive considering the company's reputation for constructing old-fashioned wooden windows that last more than a lifetime. Matt Eckerman, Pella's sales representative in San Diego, provided some promotions that reduced the cost of several window screens needed for some of my upstairs windows. They are never open! I have stopped by several times during their "hours of business" but the door is locked and nobody inside.

Completely 100% scam!!!!! We contracted this company to install a door and a retractable screen door for our house. They came in to do measurements in January, install the door in March, then brought a wrong screen door that doesn't even fit for our door. Such a nightmare working with these people. The fact that we spent 8k to have their services is such BS. Don't get me wrong. The people who install our door are good and professional. It's the communication within the company and corporate is lacking. I don't know but for the price that they charge this is completely unacceptable. It's already May and we are still waiting for them to bring the right screen door and still need to be installed. So unprofessional. I definitely don't recommend this BS company. I just want a freaking refund on the screen door which probably cost 3k! read more

We have an old kit house, circa 1940. The windows were ancient and many wouldn't open. Having had great success with Pella windows in two other homes, of course we turned to Pella for replacements. This effort happened over the period of about a year, doing a few at a time until they had all been successfully replaced. During this time, we worked with Matt Eckerman, the sales person for replacement windows. He took great care to make sure the entire process of each replacement, from measuring to final installation, was done well and seamlessly. We have nothing but the highest regard for Matt and his team and will definitely call them in the future should one of our older Pella windows need replacing. read more

It's been almost two years since Pella installed my new front doors, and the end product looked better than I expected. I recently had my front door tempered glass broken, and immediately thought of my Pella sales representative, John Schwaebe. I reached out to him and he came out and assessed the damaged door and generated a repair ticket. He was extremely sympathetic to my situation and assured me of a fix. He is the reason why I went with Pella on his initial visit. The supervisor of Pella customer service Monica, called me and quoted a very reasonable repair price. I'm still waiting on the replacement door, but couldn't be happier with the level of customer service of this company. The company attempts to make a good appearance on the surface like they care to address issues when responding to an unfavorable review, but don't be fooled - nothing comes of it. Just to reiterate, the customer service and responsiveness of personnel is HORRIBLE. We scheduled a walk-through with management for 10am to noon and the representative showed up at 7:30am. RUDE! And it wasn't even a manager - it was one of the installers that just came to take pictures to pass on the status of the final product that, after a year of our frustration and never-ending attempts to have Pella resolve installation issues, was FINALLY complete. Had received junk mail from Pella with window promotions for years. Finally took them up on a sale offer and asked for a quote for replacement windows. Should have known something was amiss when they canceled the initial visit for no reason. When the estimator finally did show up he said that they could only replace one window out of 14. What?? Home Depot, Dixieline and US Window & Door didn't bat an eye and all returned quotes for all of the windows. Ended up choosing the latter and was very pleased with the installation. read more

We decided to go with Pella after receiving multiple quotes for replacing all of the windows in my house. We switched some windows from fixed to open types and they were helpful with suggestions. We're very happy with the attention to detail during the installation. The team ensured every window was level and square. The trim work for the window frames, sills and skirts was excellent. The windows now operate effortlessly and we now get cross breezes that we never have had due to converting several from a fixed window type. The majority of the negative reviews are spot on. The measly positive reviews are laughable as they are obviously written by company employees in order to boost their ratings! I purchased Pella windows for my home because they touted the "best warranty" in the business. A few years later when the "low e" was gone and they started to leak and cloud inside I called Pella to arrange for a service technician to correct the problem. They informed me there would be a hefty "service charge" in an attempt to discourage me from seeking service. I told them I would pay the service charge as I needed to get the windows fixed. Needless to say it's been over 4 months and I am still waiting. When I call Pella they keep giving me the run around and telling me that a "technician will be contacting me soon". Do yourself a favor and purchase elsewhere as this company does not stand behind its product! read more

I have to agree, I had a remodel done only to find out that my sliding doors did not have screens! I was in the window biz for 8 years in San Fran for the Aircraft Noise Insulation projects and have never heard of a slider or window coming without screens. So I contacted Pella to find out if my contractor just didn't get them or what since he has since flown the coupe and left me with a big mess. Pella has yet to contact me. I am 65, disabled and sick. I would say they need some customer service.... any!!! I have since had to special order 2 screens at $115 each and my contractor took me for $20k already! read more

The windows themselves are good quality, but the installation process was terrible. To start, the installation crew didn't arrive when they were scheduled to start and no one communicated that they were stuck at another job until I called our rep. That should have been the tip off that the installation process was going to be difficult. Once the project got underway, there were a few hiccups. They installed the wrong window in the wrong room (there was an Egress issue). Fortunately I had been researching Egress and understood the issue and pointed it out. They cracked the plaster in multiple places around the window frames internally and didn't correct the cracks even when I pointed it out. They were not able to figure out how to complete the outside sill and glued in a piece of plastic that looked very cheap (the rep agreed and had them come back out to fix it). The stucco on the outside around the frames was spotty and there were places where they didn't stucco at all. The installers didn't inject enough sealant into some of the frames (this was pointed out by one of the subsequent installers, I wouldn't have known that otherwise). One of our doors was hung incorrectly and to this day it won't lock without us putting our weight into it. They ordered a wrong door, and we had to wait another two months with our original door partially demolished (they removed it before determining they were missing one of our doors). Once we signed the contract with Pella, I feel like our rep disappeared. When we had the above issues, he wouldn't respond to our emails for days and it would take multiple follow ups to get the issues acknowledged. My fiance and I spent close to 30k on the project, and here we are 7 months later deeply unsatisfied with a door that won't lock easily, stucco missing around our frames, window sills with cheap looking sealers, and cracked plaster around our frames. To boot, our rep still hasn't reached out to see if we are finally satisfied with the job. I would suggest that you look elsewhere for your window needs. read more

Two stars based on their lack of customer service!! I paid $10,000 (in full!) for my front door which is not correct on so many levels! Even the rep who came out to inspect was underwhelmed with what he saw. I have been waiting a month for their fixes but can't even get a call back as to when they will correct their errors! However, I did receive a text back telling me I am "in line " for them to correct what they should have done right the first time! Truly not the professionals they claim to be!! read more

Tried contacting them to fix my Very Sticking older glass slider. Have tried three numbers. The man at customer service at the main number seemed that he didn't care to be there and couldn't answer the question, "are replacement sliding doors available?". He transferred me to the Service Dept..They never picked up the phone(ten minutes or so). Tried calling directly with the Service number he gave me and it's been busy all day. Then I tried calling the Morena store twice and the line hung up on me after I made my service selection. I am starting to think that I have to rip the whole thing out after seeing the other reviews. Such a bummer that the Window Factory doesn't exist anymore. They replaced my other custom slider and all windows in '05 and never a problem. read more

Short version. Pella windows are super high quality. Expensive but you get what you pay for. Installation was deplorable and despite acknowledging the problems Pella refused to correct the issues. I would buy a Pella window again. I would never use them to install it. Long version. After many years we decided to get new windows for our 1942 wood sided home. We wanted a high quality window that matched the home. After searching we found double hung windows windows at Pella that provided what we wanted. They were very expensive, but for the quality it was worth the price. We decided that by hiring Pella to also install them there would be only one point of contact if there were problems (that was a mistake, big mistake). Pella and their salesman was very clear that our wood frame windows can primed on the exterior and factory finished on the inside. We were required to have the outside painted within 30 days in order to maintain the Pella warranty. This was also in the contract. When installation started we had our painter set up to promptly paint the exteriors - and that was done. On installation day the crews showed up and quickly (maybe too quickly?) installed the windows in three days. Here is where the issues arose. Given the age of the house the window openings we all slightly different (1/4 or 1/2") different. This was expected by everyone. After the windows were in those gaps were not properly filled but just painters caulk was gooped in them. Interior stucco was chipped. The transition from the wall to the window frame was not smooth. One window was put in at an angle. Worse, the project foreman adamantly stated that the insides were primed and the exteriors were factory finished. Not the case. All one had to do is look and feel the windows. The interiors were a smooth finish paint coat and the exterior were clearly a rougher primer. The installer refused to listen about the interior being factory finished. On the interior he trim used the nail gun to making holes in the prefinished wood - presumably for a painter to fix. Painters caulk was then smeared on the interiors. Another issue was almost every window the upper part of the window in each corner was badly scuffed from shipping - not anything that could be wiped away, just damaged in shipping. Upon "completion of the install" the foreman demanded immediate payment and would not do a walk through. We obviously did not consent. We were dismayed at the shoddy installation. We did have a walk through with a subsequent Pella rep. That rep offered to reimburse the cost of painting the scuffs (about $650). While an OK solution, the fact was the interior prefinished surface is not intended to be painted. They could not even ship them well! The rep also did note the caulking issue and said if more work was needed to call Pella and they would cover the extra painting (I did not expect them to renege on that so I did not get it in writing). We did not spend big dollars on premium windows to then have to paint the interiors. Some months later that caulking in the interior all started to yellow. Every window had sticky yellowed caulk. It could not be removed. Again paint was the only solution. We used the same Pella recommended painter and again an "OK" solution, but again painting a prefinished surface. It was really shocking that the install crew believed the inside was primed. They just slapped caulking on the interiors for a painter to fix. We requested the additional $1,415 to be reimbursed by Pella. I would not call their answer a hard no. More of an F you. And another comment on the install. Two windows were left with shipping screws in the tracks so they would not open. Three were caulked shut - yup the same caulk happy installers. I would not expect a hair in my soup at a white table cloth restaurant (or any restaurant) I would not expect bargain basement installers for premium windows. Reader be warned, Pella 1) has terrible installation and 2) they don't stand by their work. I truly hope this is the end of my window installation issues. It was a dry winter to the waterproofing is yet to be tested. read more

I would like to post my review for Pella Windows and Doors. We have used Pella twice now and we were highly satisfied with their service. Schwaebe John was our representative and he did wonderful job for us. John spent time with us and made sure we were happy with our choice. He also helped us with the cost and financing. He is very easy going, professional man. Having good experience last year for our living room sliding door we choose Pella this year for our bedroom sliding door. We did requested John again to help us. He again was very accommodative and helpful. He spent his time with us and showed everything they had to offer. He worked with us on cost again with which we were happy. I also have to mention that we had to fix our patio floor and doors at the same time and this required accommodation of Pella to construction company that we hired for our floors and Pella had no problems accommodating time that we requested. Expect to sell a kidney if God forbid a rock or bird hits your glass door or window. Pella quoted me $2000 to replace the outer glass panel of my patio door (after continuously calling them for a quote). I called a replacement glass company and he came in 3 days and replaced the panel in a week for $590. read more

I'm 100 % pleased with my Pella windows, love 'em! They're so beautiful besides being functional, retain heat & block outside noise. I still tend to sit and admire 'em, not quite used to them yet. The two men that installed them were experts at doing that job, also removed the old blinds, installed the Pella windows and balcony door, then reinstalled two blinds that still fit. Their manner was so kind, they didn't seem to mind the extra work. I was pleasantly impressed with their fine work & attitude. My experience with John Schwaebe, the salesman, was exceptional, too. He helped me make the right decisions to determine what I needed & wanted. I knew I wanted two Pella windows & a balcony door because my husband already had purchased one Pella window years ago, before his death. I'm so glad I chose the framed/cased-in windows, match the balcony door so perfectly, really look nice! I also needed to get double-pane windows and a patio door for my little studio condo. The HOA that managed that complex has specific guidelines regarding the kind windows they allow. John looked at the regulation, said that Pella exceeded those. The worst customer service ever! No one is ever a available, they do not return calls or emails. Had 2 sliding doors that need 2 sliding screen doors. They are old and the serial numbers are erased. I requested a visit for guidance, selection of products, and a quote so I can move on with the purchase. They only sent me a email stating that visitation was NOT required and to send them the serial number information. Replied to their email with the concerns and inability to read it. Never heard again from them! Then again, never returned my voicemail call! Find service elsewhere!!! read more

I called parts and service today to find out about replacing 2 screens on my Pella windows that are badly corroded. I was told that I needed to have a service call, but no one could come out for six weeks. They no longer had any record of my purchase or previous calls. In the past service calls were only about one week and there were records of the type of windows we had. When I purchased these very expensive windows, the warranty and excellent customer service were one of the main selling points. This was true until a few years ago. Judging from many negative reviews of their customer service, this is no longer true. Think again before buying Pella windows. read more

Ruuuun from this company San Diego! They installed a VERY expensive door for us which turned out to be too heavy for the frame and gave us nothing but problems. They had to come out three different times to fix it. Sure they gave a warranty but when we called to say it was still giving us problems, they said the parts were warranted but the tech's time was $150 an hour! That's a terrible way to take care of a problem that has been ongoing for a few years...."sorry, now it costs you". Find another company and make sure the warrantee covers parts AND service. I went with Pella based on past experience with a Pella product. I replaced an oversized sliding glass patio door with a Pella 4 panel vinyl framed door that opens from the center. This is a much lighter and very attractive door with roll away screens. The sales rep Matt Eckerman was very helpful and made very accurate measurements for the replacement door which was custom made by Pella. The door arrived in time for the scheduled installation date and was brought out by the installation crew. They made quick work of removing the old door and puling up the track. A new track was installed with a moisture barrier. Then each panel was put in place and everything fit together perfectly. Then all the trim work was put in place and made for such an attractive look. This door is beautiful and I'm very pleased. The installation crew was careful to haul away all the debris, the old door, and cleaned up everything. Great job and a great product. read more

This is a review of Pella blinds. We tried to buy a replacement for a 23 3/4" X 68 3/4 inch white metal Pella blind in our sliding doors (since Pella wouldn't replace just the tiny plastic part in the blind that is broken..about a fifty-cent part.). At the 800 807-3552 Pella phone number for parts and repair I was quoted prices for two choices: a tilt-only blind: over $400, for a blind that will tilt and can be raised: $600-$700. I asked why the unbelievable prices and the employee said, labor prices are $150/hr. (!). The Pella Corporation is the most unbelievably price-gouging company I have ever encountered. Stay away from them. read more

We purchased an $8,000 patio sliding door. The quality of the door is excellent and the local personnel are very friendly and nice. Nonetheless, this is one of the most poorly run companies I have seen in my 40 years in business. While our door was was on order and subsequent to installation, the staff admitted the poor service comments on Yelp were accurate. They basically will not invest in personnel to service the product they sell and acknowledge it. Our door had an installation flaw, which I had to have serviced at my own cost, unless I wanted to wait 6 months or more for a service person. Additionally, a very small part was an "exception" at installation and logged for service. After 4 moths, still not resolved. The lack of available follow up provides too much risk to purchase such an expensive product with the "hope" that the installation will be 100% correct and not require follow up service calls. For this reason, my recommendation is not to purchase from them until they stand behind their product...and they currently don't. read more

Be careful on where you purchase the Pella window, install and the line you purchase. There can be a big difference between the grade (quality) of window purchased from Lowe's and the Pella store. The Pro Line at Lowe's is contractor's grade - about a 15 year window IF installed correctly. Install is key and a Pella factory install is better than most GC installs. True, law requires GC to follow install instructions delivered from the manufacturer with the window. But I have seen many times where the instructions are removed from the delivered window and tossed in the trash. The GC sub or worker might care little about the install - they can blame any leak on the window manufacturer. I have Pella windows on several homes in SoCal - the only ones that leak were GC installed, not Pella factory (install using Pella GC.) read more

Replacement window and door experience. If you are willing to spend some money on their upper tier (350 series) replacement window, get them. Go with the sound performance glass and the world disappears when you close the window. Phenomenal. We've had three exterior doors replaced by Pella as well and the product and install have been great each time. The slider closes like a vault. Designer Series is some serious hardware. Shortly our entire house will be Pella upgraded. Pella windows and doors are reason enough to keep our house for another 10-15 years. Ask for Matt E. or "Pella Matt" as we call him. We reviewed many quotes before settling with Pella due to best perceived quality/cost ratio. John Schwaebe was our sales advisor. John is very professional and courteous person with a touch of class and sophistication. Best of all he is not pushy at all compared to other sales people we dealt with throughout the process. Right on schedule a few weeks later all windows were in painlessly installed by a professional team of installers that took good care to protect the flooring and other surfaces in our home.
