This is a very quaint and somewhat kitschy café on the edge of downtown San Leandro. Portions are hearty and prices are fair! Quality-wise, this place serves your standard diner fare -- a bit greasy and a bit salty but it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. I ordered Pelton Cafe thru DoorDash ( remember to tip your delivery person y'all ! ) and it was quick, yummy and they went above and beyond. I ordered a simple breakfast of a croissant w bacon eggs and cheese accompanied with the option of fresh fruit or peaches, and added a side of house potatoes. I chose the fresh fruit and it was watermelon. My friend ordered mozzarella sticks and they had ran out of a complete order, so they didn't charge us for them but included a free generous side of fried zucchini with what was left of the mozzarella sticks ( 2 of them ) and i thought it was so sweet. They even wrote a little note on the receipt about it and I just had to come on here and say everybody please go throw your money at Pelton Cafe. This gesture of kindness has definitely turned me into a return guest and I hope to be able to dine there when pandemic shutdown has allowed us to. This was our first time here m, and it was OK. The crab cake benedict I thought was good, but my potatoes tasted disgusting. I was hoping that the good history would make my first experience here pleasant. Nope... 1. Place was crowded, but that's expected on a Sunday morning after church. No biggie on my part. I get that. 2. Got served quickly with coffee. Lady came by again when cup was 3/4 full to refill. Nice they're on point with service, but not necessary. Still nice though. My boyfriend got the Humbaby and I got eggs benedict. 3. Food took 45-50 minutes. Once again; busy, but what the heck? Are they just not organized today or possibly at all? 4. Just before out food came, we were told that they ran out of small bowls for grits and was offered to get another side. Okay weird... they should be well prepared for things like this, so I asked for country potatoes. Also no biggie: I've worked in food service before so I understand if things run out / dishwasher hasn't cleaned them yet (they should still be prepared though). 5. Food finally arrives! Grits were spooned right next to the hollandaise. Grits were nice though but nasty with the hollandaise. 6, The eggs benedict were messy and COVERED in the sauce. You couldn't even see anything: just yellow sauce. As a result, the english muffins were soggy. The eggs were also overcooked (they were already softboiled). I couldn't eat it because everything was covered and overpowered with the hollandaise. I removed the ham and grits and put them on the separate plate with the potatoes. 7. I asked for a reorder because the eggs were overcooked and the muffins were soggy. The latina lady said something along the lines of "Well the muffins get soggy because of the egg." EXCUSE ME? I don't like being lied to. The muffin is supposed to be toasted with a slice of canadian bacon with the poached egg ON THE TOP. There's a fat slice of ham right in the middle there blocking the egg. Ugh. I did not like that at all. 8. Reorder comes! English muffin is BURNT ON ONE SIDE and LIGHTLY TOASTED ON THE OTHER, and eggs are a little closer to poached. It was just gross and unsatisfying at that point. Does NO ONE at this place know how to poach an egg correctly or even toast a muffin? I couldn't believe it! I was getting to upset that I accidentally snapped at my boyfriend. Horrible! I think that if I were to come here again (and I'm not), or if anyone is curious about their eggs benedict, they should get their hollandaise on the side. Service was okay, but come on people... I did not expect to be treated with such disrespect from the kitchen staff to be punished because they don't know how to cook an egg. Never again. read more

The food is great here. I have only had the breakfast items on the menu so i can not comment on the other things but every breakfast item i have tried has been very delicious.They also have chick apple sausage which for someone who does not eat pork is great! The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food is actually decent. With that said, I used to come here all the time, and now will never return. I ordered an omelet and specifically requested no cheese. It came loaded with cheese. Ok so everyone gets an order wrong every now and then. Here comes the bad part. My husband and I were sitting at the counter waiting for our incorrect order to come. The servers behind the counter were stuffing their mouths with pancakes. Not real classy in front of customers while you're on duty... the worst part is they were using their fingers instead of forks. Then, without washing their hands, they continued to roll silverware and serve customers. GROSS!!! I'm from out of town and was looking for a breakfast place that wasn't a chain. This place popped up on yelp and had good reviews so I figured I would try it. It did not disappoint! I walked in and was immediately greeted and told to sit anywhere I wanted. The servers were all very nice and friendly. The food came quick and tasted very good. Was waiting about 15 mins for a table and the staff Very Blatantly seated two people ahead of us and the 4 other groups of 2 that were already waiting outside. We spoke up, but the staff didn't care. I was looking on yelp for place around San Leandro for good breakfast places. I went to try this place, it was pretty good and cheap for the food I ordered. I had the Breakfast#1 which consisted of 1egg, bacon (or sausage) and 2 pancakes. I also had a side of pancakes. The pancakes definitely tasted like they mixed it with water and not milk (you can tell if you know how to cook different types of pancakes). Although, I ordered Orange Juice (which is also charged per glass, no free refills), everything was good and the service was great. The server, Flo, a little old lady who was very kind and so nice. I would definitely come back for a good and cheap breakfast that is not greasy as McDonalds, Burger King and Jack-n-the-Box. read more

I'm, sadly, an adventurous creature of habit (what.) and struck it on the first try with the French Toast combo. 2 pieces of french toast, eggs of choice, and choice of sausage links or bacon for less than $7. Making it easy to take care of my french toast cravings, and thus--make it hard for me to stay on my diet :(. They get points for being close, being independent and apparently family-run, and being kitschy, but not totally over-the-top. The coffee wasn't bad for a diner, and I LOVE that they had Nopalitos on special (scrambled eggs with nopales, red onion and tomato - mmmm . . . ) Aside from that, it's your typical low-end diner experience. Meaning, breakfast is a great deal, but you're getting American cheese in your omelette, hashbrowns made from frozen packets, and pre-cooked potatoes in your homefries. Terrific breakfast at a magnificant price. It's nicer since they've remodeled the establishment. Breakfast special till 11:00 a.m. consist of: 2 eggs, (choice of either one meat of: bacon, sausage or ham), toast, (home fries or hash browns) for $4.99, what a deal. Welp... It's me & My Bf for lunch, I order a Club Sandwich & Mr orders eggs Benedict. First his eggs Benedict were cold!! So they cook him up some new stuff and i start digging into me Club... Nice taste to it & fries were just right!!! However the ham being used seemed to be very thick kind of like the Thanksgiving ham! His order was hot and tasted super good! But now this time he bites into a piece of metal! Well it was a strange experience.. They only charged us for my club after my boyfriend spoke to the manager and told her he wasn't going to pay for his food due to the piece of metal in his food. We got a seat right away, and the service was really lovely. I got the eggs Benedict with hashbrowns. The hollandaise sauce was spot on, the eggs were poached perfectly. Based on today's breakfast, I would give this cafe 5 stars any day of the week! I am from out of town, and I am so happy that I found this gem in a small shopping village. I first noticed the captivating decor when I walked through the door, walls covered with nostalgic pictures and newspapers from San Leandro's past, as well as interesting antiques and treasures. I couldn't keep my eyes off the walls! I was met immediately by a hostess to seat me and take a drink order. Very full breakfast menu with good variety of specials posted in the restaurant. I chose the San Leandro Omelette topped with Avocado. Perfect 3 egg omelette with yummy hash browns on the side. It is no wonder that this is a hometown favorite. I can't wait for the next time I am in town to visit Pelton Cafe again! read more
