However, a tree managed to crush my well house recently and I had the lovely experience of working with Will Meeks as the PEMCO claims adjuster. Pleasant, understanding, speedy and completely fair in his dealings. He is a reminder why I have stayed and will continue to stay with PEMCO. Great company. read more

At John's suggestion I again called PEMCO and spoke with an underwriter. After making sure I was getting all the discounts I was eligible for, she explained that the cost of auto repairs and medical treatment have all risen and those were the main causes. But she was unable to lower my premium so I took my no claims, no accidents, and no traffic tickets to AAA for better coverage at a much more reasonable cost. read more

My car stopped to restart and I called my PEMCO insurance number in the card, there was no direct number for road side assistance and then after while I was transferred to road side assistance. The roadside assistance customer service was the worst. They finally scheduled a jumpstart and told me it may take 2 hours. It is now 1 and half hours passed, I am still waiting... I need find another insurance soon next few days! read more

The customer service agent was super nice, but the policy is kind of ridiculous. I'm a PNW native, UW graduate, in my 30's, no accidents, no tickets, continuous insurance, incredibly good job/high income, total stability, no criminal background, the list goes on. Pretty much the ideal answer for every question I got hit with. When it came time to get the quote and get moved over to insure my car, I got a flat out no, uninsurable. To be fair, I do drive a luxury car, but just a flat out no? The explanation was them being a "preferred business" insurance provider. I mean, no skin of my back really, I'm insured as it and was just shopping around, but to flat out refuse insurance (without even calling an underwriter at that) to a perfect candidate seems like a pretty questionable business practice prone to wasting the time of a lot of people. read more

The pandemic has slowed down a lot of things but Pemco still does a great job getting the important work done.

Pemco prides itself on being "small" and "local" but when you call in with an issue, they reply (rudely, I might add) that the "system won't let them do things that way" or "That's not our policy." I had fallen behind on my payment. I called in to make arrangements on my account to bring it current, which I kept. Once I was caught up, I was told I needed an ADDITIONAL $240 each month for the next three months (this was double my normal payment. Apparently, they only had one payment option and the "system wouldn't let them change it.") to keep my account going because, the payment plan I was on was no longer available. Now, that's all fine and good. But, no one TOLD me this. I even spoke to several supervisors throughout the process. I just want honesty and the full picture. I should have just canceled the policy and them send me to collections and settled for 10% of the total I owed. But, I chose to do the right thing instead. To bad they didn't do the same. On top of that, my policy increased by $250, even with no accidents and an improving credit score. Needless, to say, I moved to Safeco, half the price for the same coverage. I will never go back to Pemco. Stay as far away as you can. Overpriced, unhelpful, and rude customer service agents. Good riddance. read more

I've had PEMCO since I started driving in 2004 and my parents have been with them for years before that. I was in an accident in 2010, although it wouldn't want to be in an accident again I did receive great service from PEMCO and felt like they made it as smooth as possible. Recently I had to make a couple of calls to PEMCO due to changing addresses, etc., and when I called their main number on the website it was immediately answered by a live person and not an automated answering machine. This alone definitely sold me on keeping PEMCO. read more

My new BMW x5 was stolen while parked in front of my home. Later it was recovered with some damage. PEMCO got me a rental car and recommended 2 shops near me for the repair work. They made this very simple & easy for me. I had 2 keys for the car. The theives took 1 key when they abandoned the car. They now have the current key to steal it again and they know where to find it. I have the other key. PEMCO rep called to tell me they'll only pay $250 for the key issue, but BMW dealer will charge $1200 to disable the missing key & make me a new set. I pointed out to the PEMCO rep that my deductible is $100, so if I keep the old key & let the kids steal the car again, my out-of-pocket will be another $100. However, preventing the kids from stealing my car again will cost me $950. The PEMCO rep admitted that I'm better off letting them steal it again than getting new keys, stating that it's in the policy and there's no way to add logic to this. I've never had a car stolen. It's been 28 years since I've had an accident & similar time frame on tickets. I have 2-3 cars insured with PEMCO at all times and my home is also insured with PEMCO. I pay my premium every 6 months and have never been late. I like the people I've dealt with so far, all positive experiences until this claim. In the end, they paid for everything, meaning the maximum allowance of $300 for stuff that was inside the car, the repair shop bill, the $1200 for the keys, and their portion of the rental car. I only paid my part of the rental car & the $100 deductible. I'm very happy! Before the Yelp! review, they said no to the $950 in keys. After the review, they said Yes. In about 1998, I had my first incident when I touched bumpers with a Chrysler mini van when my 87 Toyota Corolla rolled forward at a stop light at less than two mph. My insurance increased substantially for 3 years because the man in this van decided to take his whole family of 6 to the ER for a checkup and X-rays. He also claimed damages to his bumper when there was zero visible damage to mine and his just after it happened. PEMCO took the lazy easy route and paid his claim without due diligence, then made me pay for it afterwards. They apparently encourage and reward fraudulent claims. I HATE them! read more

I've been a Pemco customer for 11 years and I have been increasingly dissatisfied with their service. Sure, their premiums are low, but what good is insurance if they won't ever help you with a claim?! They seem nice and happy on the phone, but once you have an accident, they will find absolutely every way to not cover it. Don't waste your time and money with Pemco! Just today I woke up to find they dropped my auto coverage just because I had a professional upgrade done. I still have 600 miles to drive home and now I am uninsured and have to find another policy from a more reputable brand. Thanks for the hassle! Never will I be back! I got rear ended, and these guys sided with the other insurer to tell me that I cant prove who was at fault, so they want to charge me my deductible. The only thing the person who handled my claim was efficient at, was to send me their sales rep, to sell me additional things. Stay away from PEMCO. Their service was ok. They made it easy to sign up and gave me a decent rate which was why I went with them. However, I just ended my policy because they wouldn't insure my new car because I didn't have any recent car insurance. Wouldn't have had it because I didn't have a car before now... So they have Progressive underwrite policies for them and I got a quote through them and it was horrendous. I went with Geico who was cheaper for both my renters and auto. I then canceled my PEMCO policy and it was on the date my payment normally comes out. So I avoided the charge, but they still sent me an invoice for a portion of the month. I am writing to caution people on use of the auto deduct system for PEMCO payments. For financial/personal reasons I will not detail here, I have one checking account that is used only for two creditors, one of which is/was PEMCO. I "swoosh" funds from elsewhere into these accounts for these payments only. I have business accounts and personal accounts elsewhere, additionally. I was out-of-town and woke in the middle of the night, realizing I had not handled the PEMCO transfer. As soon as they opened, I contacted them, as the due date for the ping of the account -- not the actual deduction -- was within 24 hours. I knew that was insufficient time to do an online transfer. I explained the situation, my concern/worry, and I was calmly assured that it was not a problem. She took my payment by phone and before hanging up, again reassured me that my payment was handled. The payment was made in full, thus, 48 hours before it was actually due, 24 hours before the account is pinged. Next month, I had a $50 late charge assessed by PEMCO -- for a payment they rec'd in full 48 hours in advance of the due date, remember. I spoke with a supervisor. I was told that there was nothing they could do. I was told that it was my responsibility to make sure that the payment came out of the cking account. I have other creditors that deduct payments. None of them behave in this manner. The charge was $50 because I have (had) both home and vehicles insured there. After 40 years with PEMCO, the recent increase after increase, learning from an account rep that if you use towing that usage is a black spot against your premium, and the $50 charge, I am right now in the process of changing companies and will be filing a claim with the state of Washington insurance commissioner to alert them re the charges, using the recording I have of that conversation and the email that followed. read more

I had insurance with Pemco for while and my payment was on every 15th of month until I bought new vehicle and on November 1th I ordered new insurance for my new vehicle. It's showed me to pay about $99 to that period that I already paid for my old vehicle insurance and I had about 15 days left, about half of my old payment and they stile owe me. After 15 day's I called the and canceled my insurance because I found a cheaper insurance company. The day after, they charged me for $240 for new month and I called them again to refund my money and they told me we will send you a check by mail. One week later I got a check for only $27.36 and I called them to refund my money but the person I was talking with ignored me and she didn't even try for understand my issue. I don't recommend this insurance to anyone. You can find cheaper insurance with just a few calls. read more

BEWARE******Worst company ever. Preferred means you pay premiums and as long as you NEVER make a claim and they never have to pay a dime, you stay insured. One accident you will be canceled. One ticket and you get canceled. Safe driver points are just a gimmick and do not offset anything. I thought preferred was a good thing, not so. Preferred just means they take your money as long as they do not have to pay for ANYTHING. They do close out claims fast with minimal reimbursement. The check comes with your letter of cancellation although. Pemco is a money grubbing unethical company that is as bad as it gets. 28 yrs I had my auto & home without a single claim, other than a couple of windshield rock repairs. I had towing insurance I paid every month. When it came the first time to use towing after 25 yrs of paying. There is no one to answer the phones. I had to pay out of pocket $300 and it was not worth the hassle on hold, working with 18-24yr olds who do not know their jobs. I ate it and all towing premiums. I had my first accident in my whole life and they instantly canceled me. Pemco does not allow ANY, **not even one accident or you will be canceled. **** If you are needing help, they have a live person to MISDIRECT your call to a Know Nothing who puts you on hold, then comes back to tell you they either don't know, or your talking to the wrong person. This "live" person frustration only happens from 9-5pm otherwise, it's an answering machine and they will get back to you if they can figure out how to make an outgoing call. 28 years total of MY loyalty, my family members, and same thing happened to my uncle. Over 28 years with Pemco they made over 120K off me insuring my autos and homes and the total payout for all 28 years from Pemco was less than 5K due to 2 windshields and one accident. This was a great company back in the 1960-1980 but then it became the spoiled rude youngster company with entitlement issues. Pemco is entitled to ALL your money but you are not entitled to being treated with respect or protected or insured. Here at Pemco we take your money but NEVER PAY back, DO NOT ask or we will CANCEL you! is their motto. I gave it one star because I could not go negative. I was foolish to pay them all those years. I read the reviews where people felt ripped off after 5 yrs. They royally robbed me for 28 yrs. My bad. The only people on here who gave it 4-5 stars are the naive or foolish ones like I was. Everything was great when you never have a claim. Watch those 5 stars turn to one star if those people ever have an accident or get a ticket.. I found several companies out there who have the same if not lower rates for the same insurance and do not cancel your policies for one accident or ticket. Safeco has lower rates and is more forgiving. I'm suspicious that the two comments made this year with 5 stars are planted on Yelp. Pemco does not insure ANYONE who has one"AT FAULT" accident no matter how many years your with them. That is why they call themselves preferred. I'm calling BS on the authenticity of Ted T. and his two claims over 10 years. I got 28 years with a perfect driving record except for last years first accident. My car was also a 1996 Nissan garage queen in immaculate shape worth only $3200 to Pemco. I also had the max of 3 safe driver points that did not matter. Nothing about his review rings true if you call Pemco and give that exact scenario. Pemco said any person with that story would best be served by another company. Felt compelled to give PEMCO a good review after seeing so many negative ones on YELP. I've been with PEMCO for almost 20 years now, first just for auto, then combined with homeowners, then after getting married, combined both households and all our autos under one umbrella plan. Results were significant savings in the hundreds each year over State Farm who cried when I left them because the agent felt I should had given him the opportunity to match PEMCO's rates. Well, if he had gotten off his behind and walked the 100' to my house from his neighborhood office on my block and said "hi, anything I can do for you" at some point over the 15 years I'd been with State Farm, he might had continued to get our business. Why did I have to leave State Farm to get them to notice me as a policyholder? Not really into having to negotiate insurance coverage like cable tv. Too bad, I'm all in with PEMCO's multiple discounts for safe and claim free policies, combination discounts for home/auto, and even a discount for having fire alarms and a security system in the house. Insurance is meant to be there in the event of something out of your control. Rates are always going to go up because of the nature of the insurance business. Customer service is always going to be up to what you're willing to settle for. Personally, I would prefer a face to face interface in their offices rather than to explain everything in detail over the phone. But that's just me, your mileage can vary! read more

Pemco sucks. Here's why. Recently mama had a little "incident" with the car while it was parked at my man's house. Ahem, it wasn't my fault. The adjuster I was working with, I won't name names, was clearly more interested in closing my claim and defending the other insured, than doing his job and protecting me. He didn't want to do the work. He was condescending as hell and a downright old fart. Yeah, I don't care how long you've been doing claims, this is my new and only accident fella. And excuse me? Did I do something wrong? Why am I being questioned to this extent? It wasn't my fault! In fact my friend, I wasn't even IN the car. I felt like I needed an attorney just to protect myself from my own insurance company. Why would you need to ask how many nights my car is over at my man's house? For real? Is there a relationship here that I don't know about? Here's why I say this... I live in Seattle. This dude would call me at 0700, like he's in New York selling foreign phone plans. Pemco is in Washington. We are on the same time zone. Don't call me at 7am! And who in the HILL leaves work at 230? Additionally, borderline stalking when it comes to them trying to get a hold of me. I've been with Pemco for 34 years. Now I am considering switching to another company. It's true like a lot of the comments here suggest, they will not stick up for your welfare when and if you need them as I have personal experience with that problem over the years. The "straw that broke the camel's back" is when I found out how 'woke' they have become. Was hit on freeway by a Pemco customer. Driver was ticketed by Hwy Patrol. Pemco then denied claim saying I was at fault. Had to take it to arbitration and case was decided in my favor. The other driver fought the ticket and lost. Vehicle was BRAND NEW (first time on road after driving home from dealer) Got vehicle repaired after SIX MONTHS of fighting Pemco. Now I am claiming DIMINISHED VALUE since my BRAND NEW vehicle with under 200 miles on it has a branded title. Pemco is now fighting that too but did make a very lowball offer. It looks like I will be back to court for the diminished value also. Pemco has turned a simple accident into a SIX MONTH NIGHTMARE THAT STILL ISN'T OVER! This company has fought me since day one, falsely accusing me of being the at fault driver and doing everything to avoid paying for the damage cause by their insured. I was on the receiving end of collision, on the freeway the owner of the other vehicle took full responsibility and the state trooper filed a report. Sent us each on our ways. A Pemco agent reached me and let me know that the claim had been filled and to give them a call. It was uphill the entire time aftetwards. I wasn't expecting service this awful. No professionalism, nothing was being expedited. I had to call around my self for bodyshop quotes, after 6 hours of footwork and phone conversation, no thanks to Pemco claims agents, two estimates later. I was advised to go to their shop that is endorsed by Pemco to get another assesment. I did. After the little pile of paper work was handed to me on my way out of the door, we'll call you later, attitude, was given to me. So I contact Pemco again, and told them about the service I received. An agent advised to return to their shop and go forward with the work. Wich I did. This auto body shop wanted to schedule me in 2 weeks later. Mean while I got a busted taillight and the muffler is barely hanging on. I called Pemco again. Then they started to backpedal. And now advised me to wait for the estimate to get evaluated. What they failed to mention, was if I had gone through with the work order, I would have paid the difference myself out of my own pocket. Because, what they also failed to mention is the total loss policy. If your assessment of repair is worth more then the value of your car, wich they will let you know what the value of your car will be according to their magic chart. They write off the dollar amount to you instead. And in this case the damage I received, I would have ended up paying the bill, Anyhow. It's the blind leading the blind. There not a crack whip team that I had supposed them to be by any means. If they worked harder on better communication, as they did on sounding like bingo hall announcers over the phone, it still wouldn't change what little hope for them that i used to have. I've had PEMCO for about two years (auto and homeowners) and haven't had a claim in that time. Two days ago I was in a hit and run accident and left without a drivable vehicle. So far things aren't looking good working with PEMCO. Early yesterday morning I took the car in for an estimate and had the estimate sent to PEMCO, so work can start on repairing the car. The estimate needs to be approved before work can start, and it seems to be held up in that process. I don't understand why this is an issue, when the damage is obvious (they have pictures as well as the estimate) and I have a police report and the records of the arraignment (the police caught and arrested the other driver). I'm told it will be another business day before I am able to have work started (which will take us over a weekend). Like most people I can't just go without a vehicle, so I pay PEMCO for rental coverage. But, 2 days after the accident the rental still hasn't been approved and I am being asked by Enterprise to secure the rental on my own credit card. I am a professional musician and have an engagement in a few hours that it looks like I won't make it to. We carry car insurance to protect us from just this situation - the top priority of an insurance company should be to quickly make the policy holder whole again, with a minimum of fuss and stress. I totally understand the need to investigate or delay repairs on claims that might be suspicious, but my claim is obviously on the up and up. So, PEMCO might be cheaper (in my case, *much* cheaper) than other companies, but I'm learning now that their service isn't up to much. Don't expect to have a claim handled quickly. read more

I was in a car accident- entirely the other persons fault. That driver was insured by Pemco. My car was badly damaged; I had a rental car for three weeks. Fortunately, I faired better. I was badly shaken and missed a day of work, but did not require medical attention. On the day of the accident I contacted Pemco; I wanted to be sure they would cover the car repairs before I gave the go-ahead to the shop. The agent I spoke to hadn't talked to their client yet and couldn't give me an answer. Of course I authorized the work - I already had the car towed to the repair shop. Pemco never called me to follow up. The Pemco agent never contacted me to let me know my car repairs and rental would be covered. Pemco never called to get input from me. After my car was fixed and the rental car returned, I called Pemco again. I asked to be reimbursed for the day of work I missed due to the accident. I was told "No" and "That is the cost of doing business" What???? I hope the person who caused the accident had a better experience with Pemco. If a claims adjustor or representative of Pemco had called, even once, to let me know the status of my claim my review might be different. As it is, I wouldn't recommend Pemco Insurance to anyone. read more

Horrible company, full of lies and confusion. I was hit by a driver that carries pemco insurance, it has now been over a month since it happen and I still have not received a cent from them. I took my car to a body shop on the list they provided me for an estimate, so I got the estimate and was told they had received it from the body shop and the check was on its way, it wasn't. I called back and left messages and even sent an email asking for a status up.......none were ever returned so I kept calling them and no one seemed to know what was going on, or had a different story each time. So a week ago they said "ok, you will have the check in 2 days", I believed them and took two vacation days off work so I would have a long weekend to get my car fixed. The check didn't arrive and so they said they would do a bank transfer and that takes 3 days(at the most), its been 3 days and guess what?! Nothing happened. I've now wasted 2 of my vacation days and will have to go back to work having accomplished nothing because them, vacation days I could've spent with my family and I can guarantee they wont take responsibility for that. I even offered to come to them to pick up the check and they refused, seems like a really sketchy company. Stay away from them, I've dealt with other insurance companies that were 100 times better than this. 0 Stars. read more

I have been with them for 13 years, and I used to love them, but I cannot say that anymore. They do not look out for their customers anymore and I will be dropping them as soon as possible. I am currently a Pemco customer of 2+ years now and have payed full coverage since day one. I recently got in my first accident which the driver that hit me was deemed 100% responsible. After my accident I called Pemco within 24 hours to report the incident and took my car to a "non preferred" shop of my choice 2 days later. After I had dropped off my car I proceeded to let my preferred auto shop complete their assessment of the damages. In the meantime I called my adjuster and let her know of this and that I was ready to pick up my rental car (which is covered up to 30 days). My adjuster told me "No, you need to get your car from the shop I cannot approve for you to get a rental." I let my advisor know that they requested 1-2 business days to properly asses the car which is fair. After 5 phone calls that day going back and forth with my adjuster I put my foot down and stated I need my rental that is covered under my plan I am not going to miss work when my car that they had to take a part is no longer drive able so they could actually do their jobs. Finally, she reluctantly allowed me to get the rental and have it covered under my full coverage. - 14 days go by, I have left multiple voicemails with Pemco with no call back. So one day I called 4 times consecutively and I finally was able to get thru. I was then told by a supervisor that they would send someone out to asses my car because they had "Trouble" getting in contact with my "preferred choice" auto shop. Which I had been in full contact with this entire time. I said okay, send someone out and we can go from there. On the day my car was supposed to be assessed I received no follow up call as promised by the supervisor. I call the following day and was told that they never got in contact with the auto repair shop and would physically go out the following day. - IT IS NOW 26 days later from when I had first contacted Pemco and I am in the same position as if I had gotten in the accident yesterday. To the say the least I am less than satisfied and once this absurd situation is FINALLY resolved I WILL LEAVE PEMCO AND TELL EVERYONE I KNOW TO NEVER GO WITH PEMCO!!!! They are a horrible company that sets false expectations with no follow thru!!! I will never recommend this company to anyone and feel very unfortunate for current customers and strongly recommend you switch immediately. Told them that I was old and could not get up there and asked that they send out an agent. He told me that they dont do that so they wouldn't change the policy. I picked Pemco with the idea of helping a local business. Appreciated all the advertising and nice quotes in the operator when called their customer service. However, their customer service people are not consistently helpful and can be inconsiderate. Finally, I asked a quote on my car insurance they gave me a good quote on the phone and then charged me $500 more when the bill mailed to me. When I called them back asking why the quote is different then the answer was we have to charge you more because we did not think that two car insurance the second person would be driving to the car. After switching due to the review I left previously and contacting them out of curiosity about going back it was an even bigger joke. With nothing at all changing other than being gone for a few months and yet again their rates were even higher than previously and their customer service again could not tell anything up front and gave a complete run around. They try to claim that everyone's rates are increasing but oddly I found insurance for way lower and higher coverage than them. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR APOLOGIES IT WILL COST YOU IN THE END. read more

Pemco used to operate ethicaly but times have changed. After recieving a $500 increase in our yearly premium we found they increased our rates for a "NOT at fault accident" A fender bender last year that the other party accepted responsibility for..and it cost Pemco nothing. Pemco wouldn't have even known about the incident had I not given them a courtesy call to let them know in case thet were contacted by the party at fault. A poor busniess practice charging good customers, with perfect driving records, for other peoples issues. It's going to cost them all my accounts and I'll warn as many people as I can through the miracle of social media. Buyer beware. read more

Poor customer service! I've never had an accident, but this company will find any reason to charge me more money. I request a legal name change... and they treat me poorly and add a fee. I will find a new insurance company. read more
