    The butcher

Amazing experience. The place is very small but it made it feel cozy in the middle of the ghent neighborhood. The service was great. Brought us our food and constantly checked how we were doing and if we needed anything. We had the butcher sandwhich and the cleaver burger. Both were amazing. The butcher was a super solid sandwhich with meats cut right at the spot. Cheese melting right. Meats seasoned sooo good. Prices are a bit expensive but i feel like i got what i paid for. Definitely coming back!

Pendulum Fine Meats is a butcher shop first that just happens to offer food. I wanted a charcuterie board which I found out is a problem because they make them to order in advance. They don't make charcuterie boards on the spot, you have to order them 24 hours in advance. So I just ordered some meat and made the best of it. In the end it was great. There is all kinds of meat, cheese, lunch meat and things to go with them like bread, nuts, honey, etc. They also have a decent craft beer selection. The service was exceptional except for the charcuterie hiccup. The young lady who was cutting my meat and I were having some communication problems. Not because we spoke a different language, but because I was kind of asking for something off script. In my ignorance of visiting here for the first time, I didn't know the rules. I will know for next time. So my overall impression as a first timer is a 3.5 stars, but will round up to 4 because the other patrons were having a great experience.

Pendulum is truly a gem. It quickly jumped up to one of my favorite spots for lunch in all of Hampton Roads, but definitely in Norfolk. I do love the quaint feel of Ghent in general, but love this specific spot that is just a bit off the main road. They do have their own parking lot, which in theory, is wildly convenient but it is often full. We came on a Friday for lunch and it was definitely busy but we were able to snag a great table outside to enjoy the weather. They offer some great draft beers, wine and house sangria. The sangria was delicious and refreshing. Food was superb. Truly incredible. Both sandwiches that we had (The Butcher and the Cuban) were 10/10 and would absolutely order again. Fries were also phenomenal.

Almost forgot to take a photo because we couldn't wait to dig in. The Shepherd burger in the front, house burger in the back.

Pendulum is an amazing neighborhood butcher that also has PHENOMENAL sandwiches. It's a favorite lunch spot I go to whenever I can. it boasts an impressive menu of burgers and sandwiches in addiction to the butcher counter staples and any meat cut you can think of, homemade sausages, and interesting products like tinned fishes, lard, rilette, and local goodies. Today we tried the house burger and The Shepherd, a lamb burger. Both were delicious and on par with the other sandwiches we've had there. The star are the house fries that come with a savory aioli. Honestly, nothing here is a bad choice!

Butcher shops with amazing lunch options! Arrived here on a Monday and didn't have a long line + the employees were very friendly. They have the menu in chalk when you first walk in. Remember, this is a butcher shop sk you can also just come in and order your quality meats. A good variety. I got the Big Tex with a salad. Brisket was tender and melt in your mouth - exactly what you'd want in your brisket. Sauces and toppings complimented each other really well. Highly recommend. They have a good selections of beers, wines, and non alcoholic drinks - you can pay for everything upfront or after you finish eating or drinking. Interior is nice and rustic. Seating available but it seems more like a take it to go type of place. It's right off Colley Ave so it walking distance to other restaurants, shops, and things to do.

This place is always such a treat whenever I get the chance to visit. Never have had a bad experience here. The staff is super nice, the building is cozy, food is in delectable- just make sure to get there before their garlic aioli runs out!

Upon arrival you wouldn't expect a front store inside with the home vibes it gives. But the outside definitely mimics the inside. Dana, her husband and staff are super friendly and make you feel comfortable like you're at home. Took the sausage making class with my husband and would recommend the class to everyone. It was hands on but not overwhelming. Absolutely loved the tasting of the sausage meat paired with the made from scratch bread. It was definitely a great class to learn something new to try at home. Thanks again for having us!

This is one of Norfolk's gems. This butcher shop also doubles as a luncheonette throughout the week and I loveee it. The staff are super friendly and charming, there's a large array of cool products to try like juices teas and wine. There are also homemade desserts that are always in rotation (one of my faves is the apple cheesecake). My favorite thing to order is The Shepard, which is a Lamb Burger that has goat cheese, peppers and fresh greens. I also love their fries that come with the most amazing garlic aioli. Coming here is always a mini adventure as there's so many books and signs etc. to look at and browse as you wait for your food. They also sell pre-made pasta dough sauce, pepperoni and cheese which is perfect for a build your own pizza night with your family and friends.

The Butcher- I don't really even like roast beef and this was the best sandwich I've ever had. Don't walk, run.

First off, the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous--bright, beautifully decorated, and spotless. It has such a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to sit back and enjoy your time. The staff was incredibly friendly, and our waitress truly made the experience special. She was so knowledgeable about the wines and took the time to guide us through our tasting right at the table. We started with the sangria flight and then let her surprise us by choosing our second flight, and she absolutely nailed it! For lunch, we ordered the shrimp taco appetizer, the steak panini, and the grilled chicken & prosciutto panini. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfect for a lighter lunch. It was one of those meals that leaves you feeling satisfied without being overly heavy. Overall, this was the perfect lunch date. Between the beautiful atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food, and fun wine tasting experience, we had such a great time. I would absolutely come back and would definitely recommend it for a date, girls' day, or even just a relaxing afternoon with friends!

The store is located in the Neon District aka as the Arts District of Norfolk. The building was nothing special to look at and debris was in the parking lot. A bonus is that they do have curbside pickup by the door and a spacious lot. The staff was friendly and opened the door promptly at noon, by this time there was a line of around 14. Most were there for truck day and bourbon. This is not unusual whatsoever in Virginia which is a controlled liquor state. Once inside the store was not anymore impressive inside. Old dated and small. But the shelves were packed and the bourbon area in the back large. The employees had the allocated booze by the register. I asked for the Michters Rye Barrel Strength. They only had three at $90 a pop and limit one. Checkout by card easy. Staff never smiled, but hey they were nuts by now with a line out the door. Only 20 are permitted inside and they do count. I would skip the ABC location if you had a choice. If there is something special by all means shop away. Otherwise there are much better options.

I selected The Veil as the spot for my UYE and enjoyed an evening of talking shop with the great J David H. while we drank those great beers. Which we needed because that burger and fries needed elbow room to enjoy. I'd only suggest a pump-based ketchup dispenser as the packet thing is tedious. They opened here in 2019 - well after I was done with my projects in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake - transforming this three-story space into a family-friendly taproom and restaurant. The full kitchen specializes in indulgent smashburgers and Neapolitan-style pizzas that pair perfectly with the brewery's bold stouts, hazy IPAs, and seasonal sours. I only experienced the downstairs on my visit with Yelp friend Bruce K. The Happy Hour pricing was a draw as well as stellar reviews. Parking in their own smallish lot on a weekday was no problem. I started off with a Blend which is a Pale and Pilsner if I recall and it was tasty. The counter service was excellent. You can cash tip or card. Customers can also leave a tab open. The seating is wood bench type that comfortably seats six. The aesthetics of the first floor is high ceilings, concrete floors and walls. The kitchen has a garage door over the front. The space was previously a restaurant, but before may have been a factory, or warehouse. Only negative was music was a bit elevated for talking. Prior to Happy Hour concluding I ordered a $6 on special smash burger that comes with fries. No other dudes are available. The regular price is $12, so this is a deal friends. In about 20 minutes burgers and fries were delivered to the table. The look was downright amazing, so pretty much knew this bad boy was gonna be a hitter. The burger comes with double patty, cheese, Dukes mayo, lettuce a pickle. If something else I'm sorry I forgot. The first bite was phenomenal! Fresh bread, perfectly cooked 80/20 beef which was not greasy. The construction was a masterpiece. The thin fries were cooked crispy and seasoned well, yum! Honestly I could eat that burger everyday. The whole experience was exceptional and worthy of a full 5. Totally recommend checking The Veil Brewing out.

There is also a number of different beers, seltzers, IPAs, and wines to try. Tonight I had the White Cranberry Sangria from Water's Edge Winery (also in Norfolk) and the Downeast Black Cherry! While both were really good, I prefer the Downeast because it was sparkling and just more refreshing. We also had the bacon Gouda pizza and the Hive pizza with hot honey. Both were great! I had never had a hot honey pizza but would definitely get it again! Tonight was trivia night and they had a good size crowd come out. You have to go up to the counter to order each time, and the lines get pretty long. Being able to order from the table, even if from a QR code where you could order and pay online would be a plus. I ordered the frozen rosé slushie in wild raspberry and it was strong. I also had the black cherry fruited cider, which was delicious. For food, I ordered The Hive pizza and it was excellent. The crust was thin-ish and tasted homemade, and the ingredients were clearly high quality. No complaints at all. Service was friendly and efficient, and the bathrooms were very clean. Random detail, but the toilet paper was noticeably better quality than what you usually find in bars. It was not plush, but strong and not paper thin.
