I read some of the negative reviews and I was wondering, where did these folks actually eat! When you enter Penelope's (which is named after the cutest little girl, drawing at a back table), you are immediately greeted by the nicest host. If you ask, he'll explain to you that the diner is a mom and pop operation. They stand behind everything they serve, and the food is amazing! I just bought in Gleneagles, which is across the street. My first experience was having a waffle for breakfast. Now, let me explain. I'm a chef, with a published cookbook. If I say the food is fresh and delicious, I know from where I speak. The waffle was crispy and soft inside, perfectly cooked. No gooey center as some places who undercook their food are wont to serve. Real maple syrup if asked for, the test of a great diner. I happened to ask the host when leaving if they serve biscuits and gravy. My first experience with biscuits and gravy occurred in my youth as a guest of the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead, Georgia. It's the Ritz's signature breakfast, served in their top hotel. The host declared that their biscuits and gravy were his father's specialty, and he took great pride in his recipe. Folks, if you're into a savory béchamel, loaded with pieces of sausage, served over fluffy biscuits, hand cut and fantastic, run, don't walk. Their tuna sandwiches, the sign of a good restaurant, taste like homemade. Best tuna I've had in a restaurant in forever. My husband had a western omelet, and his big mistake was giving me a taste of it! Omg! I couldn't stop stealing pieces. It was 4 or 5 eggs, stuffed with cheese, ham, onions and peppers, not raw as many places do, but sautéed to bring out the flavors. The omelet was puffy and, again, perfectly prepared! They'll make a flat omelet if you so desire, but give the chef a chance to show you the miracles he can make with eggs. Service is terrific, and prices low for the tastes and quality of the food. All I can say is Bon Appetit, and I know I'm going to be sorry I wrote this review when the place is too busy to seat me right away. read more

service was great, coffee was good with a slight chocolate flavour. the problems came from the kitchen; the Home fries tasted like dirty dish water, with a hint of fish! In the past 3 years have have eaten here about 4 times. Food is generally good, nothing very special, coffee.. ehhh... But last 2 times the prices have gone way up, beyond what the food and ambience can warrant. I had blueberry pancakes which were average, order came with 3 for $15.99!!! But wait, you can get one less for $1.00 off.... the best part was asking for honey for the pancakes and told it will cost .99c!!!!! No thank you. We had been eyeing this place since they opened because our daughter's name is Penelope. We had family breakfast and everything was very good. Our waitress was very nice and responsive. Everyone was very sweet with our kids. Towards the end of the meal the owner visited our table and found out our daughter's name was Penelope. He brought over his daughter and introduced the two Penelope's and told us all about the family members that help run the business. If you're in the area, want a good breakfast and want to support a local small business I recommend checking this diner out. read more

Breakfast our favorite time of the day! Nice vibe coming in lots of regulars greeted warmly not to say we all weren't but it was nice to see. Music playing was great. We could actually have a conversation. Food was very nice and coffee was replenished often. Waitress was very accommodating which was extremely pleasant. Not rushed at all. This is a wonderful place to eat. It's look in the shopping center might be a bit deceptive. However, it is comfortable and the service staff are terrific. They make wonderful fluffy omelettes exactly the way you want them. I like my omelette fluffy I have a friend that likes his omelette a bit flat. They both come out perfect. I love their corned beef hash, and eggs. My wife had a great looking BLT the other day. I also think their banana walnut pancakes and French toast are fantastic. I strongly recommend this place. Had breakfast here for the first time. It advertises as a diner, but it is nit really a diner. It's just and everyday breakfast and lunch place. The ambiance was mediocre at best. I had an omelette and my wife had scrambled eggs. We each got home fries, toast and coffee. They ask if you want the toast buttered. I guess it's too expensive for them to have butter at the table. My wife asked for cream cheese and was told it is .99 cents extra. The menu items are overpriced for the restaurant in my opinion. Staff was pleasant. Would not go back. After reading how wonderful this place was, we decided to try it our for breakfast. When we arrived, there were about 3 tables inside and 3 outside already seated, not too busy. We were seated, served coffee and had our orders taken, oatmeal and scrambled eggs with toast...not brain surgery. Coffee served was in a cup barely bigger than a juice glass, and while we were waiting, we asked for a refill...which was acknowledged by our waitress. After watching another patron seated and served after we had been waiting, and waiting, with no coffee refill, I had had enough. Fifteen minutes had gone by, and as I stated the order wasn't brain surgery. So, we got up asked the cashier how much coffee was as we had been waiting, not served and we would be leaving.....he proceeded to charge us $2.99 per cup...my husband said that we didn't even get a refill as requested, we're leaving due to the fact that we had waited and waited to be served, the cashier explained that the coffee was refillable. SERIOUSLY....SUCH POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE...YOU HAVE A CUSTOMER WHO WAS IGNORED, NOT SERVED IN A TIMELY MATTER AND YOU HAVE THE POOR JUDGEMENT TO CHARGE US FOR THE COFFEE! The food, service & ambiance is good enough but the up charges are a bit absurd. You want to replace your home fries with hash browns? Up charge. You want a biscuit instead of toast? Up charge. somebody on Delray Road asked about brunches so I threw this in about Penelope's but I noticed nobody else complained about the coffee and for someone who likes coffee as much as I do it was garbage and it had the same flavor as the coffee I had there the one time I went to that restaurant in 2007 or 2008 with my father-in-law. The coffee tasted like washed out Sanka instant which I just remembered and I should have included that in the posting on Delray Raw. However, like I said the omelets were delicious and maybe some jerk in the restaurant mixed stale decaf coffee with regular coffee. That's happened one time to me in Bruce's in Great Neck and when this woman brought over a coffee after I saw what she did I told her make me a fresh pot or you're not getting a tip. I hope the owners of Penelope's gets better coffee and perhaps cleans the coffee machines better. Maybe it's bad water if so put filters on your water pipes because if it's coming out and coffee the soda is probably horrendous also. The quest is so tiny compared to the business you lose. It ruined my meal and I would never go back again especially since I had the same crappy coffee in 2008. It's in a nice location and I wish the owners well but these days everyone is looking for better coffee when you take the time to go there for breakfast and you get garbage, you're not coming back or you'll stay at home and make it yourself. Is it really hard to make avocado toast or an omelette with some vegetables. That's why restaurants can't go cheap on the beverages. Use better coffee, clean your machines and filter your water, if you're not already doing that, so the coffee is better and soda doesn't taste like you're drinking it from a balloon treated with chlorine. That's not a criticism of Penelope's because I never had the soda there but it happens in many restaurants and it's one reason why I don't go back there and how stupid is that when you have a nice Italian restaurant and you serve awful diet Coke that tastes like a balloon. I went to Penelope's with someone a few months ago and two omelets and two cups of coffee were $48 with the tip and tax. The omelets are good. However, the coffee was the same shitty coffee that was there in 2007, when I first started to come down here. What was the name of that place we're Penelope's is now. It's so easy to make really good coffee and when you're charging somebody $48 for two people for six eggs and some vegetables and toast, people who will never go back there again, I wouldn't, how much extra does it cost you to buy decent coffee and clean the coffee machines. I'm buying Lavazza super crema espresso these days and I'm making it in a Melita thermal stainless steel carafe and it is absolutely delicious if you grind it very thin. I'm not using an espresso machine because I don't want to be bothered with that to make 3 oz of coffee. I can't believe how good my coffee is. I'm spending right now if I order coffee on Amazon it's $33 for two 2.2 pound bags and you get $5 off I'm not sure why. Without the discount I think it's like $7.60 a pound. The discount I think it comes out to $6.50 a pound something like that. This is for incredible coffee so why be pennywise in dollar foolish. If I woke up on Sunday morning and I want to go out for breakfast and I'm thinking about that crappy coffee that Penelope's has and even though the omelette were good I'm not going there. The coffee is inexcusable, especially these days when people look for good coffee. I hope the owners of Penelope see this and get dmart and make better coffee. As far as the brunches the ones in the country clubs are the best ends for the members and their guests they're relatively reasonable especially considering all the food they give you and they always have good coffee but do you really want to pay a $20,000 membership fee to eat like crazy for $29 or whatever they charge. read more

I went with my friend for my breakfast at Penelopes diner. We sat outside and ordered two omelettes. They were both very good and portion size was good. Service was good and was responsive. The problem.here was the cost of breakfast which in my opinion was very high. My omelette was close to 20 dollars.It was like Manhattan prices The price to value ratio was below average for this type of restaurant. Penelope's Diner is a superb place to go eat. The food is delicious! The customer service is excellent! The atmosphere is very inviting and pleasant. We went as a family of 5, ordered 7 dishes in all (including Eggs Benedict, pancakes, French toast, Fatoush salad, Falafel, Shawarma wrap, and etc.). I can honestly say that every dish was excellent and delicious. Everything was fresh, very tasty, large portions, and unique. It was our first time eating there, and we were very impressed. The staff treated us like family and we felt like royalty. We will absolutely be going back again soon. Thankful to have a place local like that with such a large selection and fun to eat. read more

While waiting for a friend to get home I took a walk around his neighborhood looking for a place to eat lunch. I came across Penelope's diner and after looking at the menu decided to try the place. I ordered their deluxe grilled cheese w/bacon. It included a cup of tomato soup, Fries and a cup of coffee. I would have given one more star except I that I saw my food waiting on the pickup window for five minutes before being served to me. Everything was warm and could have been hotter. At least the soup was hot. The sandwich was good with Swiss, provolone and American cheeses and the bacon was not overdone. The fries were well done as I requested but could have been hotter. The coffee was good but I had to ask for a refill. It's not a stand alone diner it's in a strip mall like everything else in Florida. If I lived in the area I could see myself going back. I didn't know this diner existed, but my friend and I were out for a bike ride and decided to stop in for brunch. We were quickly greeted and immediately served water and given place settings and menus - immediately followed by the waitress coming over to see what we would like. My friend had some sort of vegetable egg white omlet, I had eggs with hash browns. The omlet looked great and my friend loved it. My eggs & hashbrowns (served with toast) were excellent. So, to sum up: Service was fast, attentive and pleasant, food was excellent - I live in Boca but would definetely come here again for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Great job folks ! read more

The food here was really good . I ordered the traditional breakfast with bacon and hash browns. I loved the flavor of the hash browns. They were fresh and delicious. Everything else w as good and just as ordered. We sat outdoors at a high l table and enjoyed the weather. Our coffee cups were refilled several times during our visit without ever having to ask. We came as new customers. We sat down waiting for our food. We had our three year old granddaughter who happens to have ADD. She was trying to grab some jelly at another table and a waitress came right over and told me she can't touch anything from other tables or open the jelly. I mean I understand that kids need to behave a certain way in public but it's the way she came across. I said she's three and she walked away. She then lightened her mood and was trying to be nice. I just felt uncomfortable at that point. Anyway food was great but def not worth $100. read more
