My husband took me here for breakfast on our weekly date day after reading about it on Delray Raw. It is truly reminiscent of a fifties diner. Motown Music is played bringing back memories of a much simpler time. I ordered the pumpkin pancakes which were the BEST I've ever had. Adding to our wonderful dining experience was our amazing server, Katherine. She was pleasant, attentive and friendly. Penelope's recently opened. We decided to eat a late breakfast there because it was next to The Movies of Delray. We were immediately seated, and three people asked us about beverages. However, it was 10 minutes before our server took our order. My wife ordered a plain, thin waffle. I ordered two poached eggs with sausage, home fries, and a dark-toasted English muffin. We waited over 10 minutes for our food. The waffle came at room temperature (not hot), and it had a savory taste without any hint of sweetness. The yolk of one of my poached eggs had been broken before serving. The sausage links were over cooked in the deep fryer and were dry and hard. The home fries were heated frozen potatoes, not fresh potatoes. The English muffin came five minutes after my eggs. It was barely toasted and the server suggested that it be sent back for more toasting. When it returned five minutes later, it was only lightly toasted. I kept it because my meal was halfway eaten, and we had a movie to catch. I noticed that a diner at an adjacent table had ordered pancakes with bacon, and the bacon came five minutes after the pancakes. If the service and food quality does not improve, Penelope's Diner will be closed by summer's end. read more

Food was good. We did breakfast. Wife and I both had the meat & eggs. Hers sunny side up, mine over easy. I digitally ordered steak and eggs but was told it's cost $2 more then menu price. Declined it at that point. $19 is a bit much for a diner steak. Coke is $2.39 PER 12oz CAN. That's just crazy pricing. Lost a star for that. Service was excellent. This is a brand new restaurant in Delray Shopping Center serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are just learning the ropes. We stopped in the other day for breakfast. Food was good. Quite pricey for what you get...mostly because everything seems to be an add-on ($52 for two people! For breakfast!). Service very slow...over 30 minute wait for food. Had to ask repeatedly for coffee refill. Hashbrowns (which are an extra charge) are only cooked on one side. Waffle was not hot enough to melt butter. This place was actually really good. There were 3 of us. We ordered a burger, tuna melt, and the Crispy chicken wrap (what I had). I really enjoyed my wrap and the other two people also enjoyed their food. I think the prices were fair, and the service was great!! Bad first experience: First my wife ordered the Penelope Salad, the Avocados were not ripe, when we told the waitress she said the Chef mentioned this the best they have (didn't take $ off the bill). Then I ordered a BLT with a side of gravy, and when the bill came they actually charged $2.00 for a tiny portion of awful canned gravy. During the pandemic it was a good place to go because it had a large patio. The food is not very good. I asked for eggs over easy. They were burnt on the edges and the yolk was well done. I tried a second time. I ordered scrambled eggs and pancakes. The pancakes with three "silver dollar" size. Usually it is a regular pancake, not tiny ones. read more

If you had asked me a few months ago, I would've raved about this restaurant. Excellent friendly service, food was great, but I haven't been there in a month or two and the last couple of times we went they couldn't seat us because they had bigger groups reserved outside. So we went today during the week for breakfast and it almost seemed like they got a new chef. However the waitress said it was the same person, which is the owner. I ordered the fruit omelette which is my favorite there but it was dry and hardly had any fruit, they switched to home fries instead of hashbrowns because the hashbrowns are too "expensive" which I was very happy about because I prefer home fries but they were dry, not cooked with onions, did not taste good at all, almost like they didn't know how to cook home fries. I had ordered a bagel instead of toast but now they charge for the bagel and it was so burnt I thought it was pumpernickel but I had ordered an everything bagel. So she brought me another one and it was still way too burnt. The person who brought the food who I think was the manager and in the past has always been very lovely, argued with me that that's how they come out but the person I was with had one also and it was toasted perfectly. I was still charged for the bagel. I won't be going back unfortunately. This was one of my favorite places. I know businesses along with everyone are going through tough times right now where they may have to cut back and start charging for things that used to come with the food, but the food shouldn't suddenly be dry and tasteless and over-cooked and maybe there should be some compensation when things are not done right? read more

This was our 2nd visit. 1st visit back when they opened I'll be honest food was not that good. Poached eggs over cooked and everything tasted so bland. This time today food was excellent. I had the hash browns egg scramble with feta cheese peppers and onions. Portion was great and it was delicious one of the best breakfast in a long time. My man had the poached eggs lox dish he said the eggs were cooked perfectly this time(he was a chef so he knows). Yes prices are higher than other places but no long lines, large portions and fresh food and very nice staff. Coffee was delicious as well. Worth a visit. Next time we will try lunch. read more

My family visited today for my father's birthday. There was no hostess out front so my dad went inside. The hostess was extremely rude to him and told him to take a seat outside. The outdoor tables had not been cleaned and still had credit card slips and tip money on them. We decided to leave and go elsewhere. Have been looking for a diner nearby and this one did not disappoint. It has the menu for everything you'd be looking for at your average diner. Some of the prices for breakfast did seem a little high, but then again it is Delray. I enjoyed a patty melt and Greek salad and both were outstanding. Will definitely be back! read more

Stopped by this cute little place for lunch and was blown away by the portions and how great the food was. My chicken salad sandwich was overstuffed and full of flavor. I could not believe how much chicken was in this sandwich. I had to take half home. We also order a cheeseburger and it was super juicy and also full of flavor. Cooked perfectly. Had breakfast here for the first time and could not be happier. The staff was very friendly and the food was prepared quickly. I had two eggs sunny side up, bacon, and some hash browns. Eggs were cooked perfect, bacon wasn't as crispy as I like, and the hash browns could have been cooked longer (I like em almost burned)... both the last two items are on me, next time I'll ask them to cook my hash an pig little longer and I'm sure it will be they way I like. This was the first time my family ate in a restaurant since the beginning of March 2020, and we are so glad we chose Penelopes. Some friends had told us about it so we headed out. This was our first visit. Got there about 8: 05 AM. Very nice greeting and felt welcome. At the entrance they had a sign for a special two eggs and hash browns. Coffee served immediately and our server was prompt to take our order. Wife orders the special and we are told they opened early and the potatoes are not yet ready. Offers French fries or grits. She asked for toast instead along with her eggs.I ordered an omelette/grits and a bagel. Server came back and said they were out of bagels. Offered me a bialy or toast. I asked if she was sure she had bread. She immediately cops an attitude and says it's not her fault. I said it's our first visit and the first impression is not good.She tells me she only works there. I did not need the attitude and I was serious when I asked about the bread. no bagles, potatoes kind of a bad start. Any way the toast got there the eggs got there and the grits arrived.I will say the food was excellent.Best grits I had in a long time. Coffee refilled three times and was good. I'd have given them five stars had they not been out of bagels and potatoes. On the way out I mentioned this to the lady who took our payment. I said they should not have a special without the items making up the special. She said they ran out of potatoes and bagels the day before and couldn't get an early delivery. Fine but don't put it on a special and tell the servers what you don't have so they can fire warn us before we order. May give them a second chance but they fell short today. We were very excited to see that a new restaurant was opening in this area. Honestly, i have not eaten here yet and my desire to do so is becoming less and less with every time i drive by. I am in this plaza very frequently, probably 1-2 times a day and enter from the hagen ranch road entrance behind penelope's diner. On almost every occasion there has been numerous members of the staff (servers and cooks included) smoking cigarettes out in the open in the back of the restaurant. The first time I saw this I stopped in to see if they had any take out menus and saw a man that was actually right out front in between penelope's and pet supermarket, but was in full uniform including his hat and apron. he then proceeded to re-enter the restaurant and immediately begin serving his section again. Personally, I am not a fan of having my food handled by the same person who was out back handling a cigarette minutes prior. I would like to try penelope's but really don't feel like that is acceptable or professional from a health and cleanliness perspective and am not sure i would be able to get past that. read more
