This is one my best sub shop experiences EVER and i eat a lot of sandwiches!! The staff was extremely helpful & patient, being that I've never been to Penn Station before. I got a regular grilled Italian sub. The restaurant is extremely clean and has 2 storefronts worth of seating. I actually ended up adding a "small" fry to my order when I saw them cut the potatoes fresh. As you can see, there is nothing small about that serving! The sandwich was delicious and extremely fresh. The subs are not like they used to be. Taste, texture, quantity and amount of the items put on the subs, etc. is greatly lacking. More bread than actual food on the sub. Dissapointing as they used to be one of the best tasting subs in the area a long time ago. Prices are on higher end for same type of food you can get elsewhere. Ordered a toasted Dagwood with fries. Their fries are known for the cut and freshness but seemed to be lacking- a quarter of the cup of fries were burnt and not as thick as they used to be. As an example, go to FiveGuys if you want the better thick fries. The sub contained a skimpy amount of shredded lettuce, tomato, mayo, etc. Oil was on the sub but the vinegar is given to you in 1 packet to put on later. The pickup order was to be ready in 15 mins and when arrived after the 15 mins, had to wait another 10 minutes. Not in a rush, so it didn't matter but could matter to someone who has a time constraint and there were no other customers at that time. One of the younger staff members stated "we shouldn't have to work in conditions like this" referring to the kitchen being hot but they were standing by the fryer and overn. I really wish Penn Station had more locations because it's hard finding a good steak and cheese in the Richmond area. The sub bread was soooo good. It was toasted to perfection. I could have ate just the bread alone it tasted amazing. I got the steak and cheese of course. The meat could have been seasoned better but overall, it tasted good. The fries were a little overcooked though. It was quite busy so I take it they forgot about them. Didn't like the news playing on the television inside either and it was kind of cold in there. It's January, a little heat wouldn't heat the business. Overall, my food was ok but the atmosphere needs adjusting. read more

Not to bad for a sub shop. I needed a quick bite to hold me over until I get home. Had a delivery to Home Depot and this sub shop was right next door. The reviews were not that good BUIUUT it was in walking distance and the rain was pouring down. COVID 19 considered they were not that bad. I had the cheesesteak with everything except (pizza sauce) who puts pizza sauce on a cheesesteak anyway? They also offer fresh cut fries to which I broke my diet and enjoyed a very, very, very small amount. One of the enjoyments of this sub shop was that they cooked the steak in front of you and then bread it, cheese on top and send it through the conveyer oven. I really enjoyed the sub for the most part, so why the three stars you ask? Well it was just a sub and I had better. But if you're in a rush and need a quick bite, not a bad spot! Used Yelp to find the Best Philly Cheesesteak near me. That turned out to be a good choice because I found great cheesesteaks right around the corner at Penn Station Sub Shop. I like that they have several sizes depending on how hungry you are. They have great hand cut fries and cookies. Lots of soda choices as well as non carbonated beverages. We enjoyed watching them prepare our food. We all ended up with different sizes, different toppings(they have lots of toppings!), but all were Philly cheesesteak. The guys working were fast getting our order together so we could carry out. I will definitely be back the next time I have cravings for g cheesesteak. Yum. read more

This may be my new favorite sub shop! We had an early lunch experience and there were probably only a handful of customers in the store but the staff was busy preparing pick up and to go orders as well. Four employees behind the counter and they all hustled. I had a regular cold classic Italian and it was delicious! The bread here was crunchy, fresh and light, not doughy and heavy. I could really taste the good ingredients in this flavorful Sub! My lunch guest had a chicken sub with fries and thoroughly enjoyed it. The cleanliness of the restaurant and restroom were also good. This was my first time there. I was shocked to see no masks on employees. No sign on the door like every other restaurant and retail establishment encouraging customers vaccinated or not to put on a mask. I have no issue with the customers. However, I then asked the manager if there was an employee vaccine mandate and that's why they weren't wearing masks. He answered no. Fair enough, but if you're not going to require employee vaccinations in a tight small location with four people working, poor ventilation in a lobby full of customers, it makes common sense that you would ask your employees to wear a mask. I'll go back to Jersey Mike's. I haven't been in any business in my area where I've seen this. read more

Hands down the best place for a hot sub in the area. I love getting the Philly chicken, with fresh sautéed mushrooms and onions, it's not on the menu, but they will make it for you. They add just about anything you want on the sub. The other thing that I enjoy is the fresh lemonade and fresh baked cookies. Just a hint, if you are going to get it to go, call ahead and place your order. The reason the place is so good is because its made to order and you can see them do everything while you wait. The only disadvantage is it takes a little longer than other sub places, but it's worth the wait. Just call ahead and you will save yourself a lot of time and be in and out. I haven't had it, but I see a lot of people ordering the pizza sub, so that might be the next thing I try. read more

Cannot say enough good things about Penn Station! I got to this location every payday (just because it's Midlothian and i'm 20 minutes away in Hopewell). Fries are fresh cooked, crispy, and delicious. Service is pretty good--most days! Far better than any Subway, Quiznos, Jersey Mikes, Blimpie...whatever. I don't go to any of those places anymore. 5 stars because they have the best HOT subs in this part of chesterfield. Everyone is really friendly and quick to help. Their shop is rather small, more seating is in the back. Place looks very clean. I came in at 12pm on a Sat. in January and I haven't been here in a bit, but i got a coupon in the mail. I ordered The Dagwood which is a build your own sub and picked up an Italian sub for boyfriend. If you get the subs grilled they cook your meats fresh right behind the counter where you can watch. I reallllllly like the turkey, its slightly thicker than deli slices and chopped up while it cooks. All the turkey juices then seep into the sub rolls. Cheese is also melted. Sub roll is toasted. The fries are good. I like that they leave the skin on them. I usually salt my fries as i dont think they do. They also have malt vinegar which is great on the fries. Get the lemonade, its fresh squeezed and made with cane sugar. Its delicious but i doubt diet friendly. Would come back, would recommend HOT subs to friends. read more

This review is strictly is strictly based on this one visit at this one location. Food was good as always but overall 1 Star. I was The only customer in there when I ordered A sandwich and fries. They dropped the fries in the deep fryer. An obvious employee that was off, or a friend of an employee came into the restaurant, set down his Chick-fil-A bag at a table, walked behind the counter, and took the fries they cooked when I placed My order. He proceeded to sit in the middle of Penn Station and eat his Chick-fil-A and my fries as I got my sandwich and had to wait on my fries to be recooked. I'm not mad about the other restaurant food as I used to work in a restaurant and understand getting tired of the same food, still unprofessional though. All that would have gotten three stars, but wait, there's more...... About halfway through eating a DIFFERENT person (again either employee that was off or friend of the employees) walked IN the store then BEHIND the counter with no shoes OR SHIRT on. Literally someone behind the counter in just pajama pants while everyone was laughing at him. I'm debating on sending the pictures to the Virginia Health Department. I love this place, but don't get it nearly as often as I would like since my wife doesn't share my affinity for grilled subs and greasy fries. The bread is a delicious combination of soft on the inside, with just a little crust on the outside from the oven. The menu is pretty diverse for a franchise sub shop, ranging from Veggie with artichokes to Philly Steak or Chicken, and all points in between, and even have some non-grilled options if that is your thing. Some of my favorites are the Chicken Cordon Bleu (grilled chicken, ham, swiss, and honey mustard) and the Italian Sausage (with grilled onions, peppers, and provolone) and come in a variety of sizes (4, 8, 10, or 12"). The fresh cut fries are absolutely delicious, and the requisite malt vinegar is provided on site. They have fresh brewed Luzianne iced tea, and some pretty tasty lemonade as well. YOU MUST TRY THE COOKIES!!! Soft and chewy, and a very unique consistency since they use chocolate shavings instead of chips. Soooo good!!! In terms of cons, Penn Station is a little pricey for what you get -- don't get me wrong, it's all delicious, but $10 for a footlong sub is bit much for a chain that measures their meat down to the gram. Subs are all made (read: grilled) to order, so expect some wait; depending on how busy they are at the time, I've seen this range from 5 to 20 minutes. read more

I walked in, and saw the standard sub fare on the menu board. I ordered an 8" cheesesteak with fries. Got my food in just a few minutes. I'm grading the sub compared to other fast food subs. It's the best fast food sub I've had in ages. Hot, melty cheese covering a generous portion of steak, onions, peppers, and mushrooms on a fantastic, narrow, dense sub roll. I live in Maryland but my daughter and her family live in Midlothian. We have been to Penn Station on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. Penn Station actually makes the best subs around, far better than what we have here in Md. My husband and I have always said that we wish they would build a Penn Station here, in Frederick County, Md. This Penn Station does not skimp on whatever they put on their subs, they make wonderful home made fries an have the best freshly squeezed lemonade. My husband and I have been going to this location since we started dating 3 years ago! The manager has stayed the same this whole time and I don't think he gets enough credit. The place is always clean, staff knows our order (since we would go there so much), i have never waited long for my order, everything is fresh and the sub bread is to die for! The manager is always helping his staff with whatever they need and the staff always tells us if we need anything to let them know. They are always alert and aware of their guest and i never have a bad experience. My husband and I moved to FL at this time a year ago where there are no penn stations at all! My husband and I are expecting a baby and moved back to VA, penn station was what i was craving ALL THE TIME! We just got back to VA a week ago and have already been back to penn station 3 times! I went here for lunch because they had sent us a coupon. I will never be going back. I walked in about 10 minutes after they opened and waited more than 30 minutes for the two subs I ordered. There were three people working and I watched as they let a sub fall onto the floor and argued with customers that questioned why everything was taking so long.
