I've been here several times...I LOVE this place! I really do. Its an awesome venue for the area. Its always a full house now, it's really grown in the last few years. Great shows, I mean fantastic sound and energy and viewing pleasure. Feels like there's also 'stuff to do' while there. The in house bar and one or two small side bar concession-like stands. A nice food window with a good bar food menu. Big outdoor space with tables and a freaking view to die for! Lovely! Attached and just a stairway walk to the restaurant. I forget what its called. Everyone hangs out there and eats and bullcraps before the shows. Love this place and always have a blast here!! TIP, May want to get tickets in advance. They sell out sometimes. read more

Have eaten here numerous times, it is always a pleasant experience. The food is quite good and and excellent value, although I do wish they would change menus a bit more often. The wait staff has always been attentive and pleasant, there is usually very little wait time, although the exceptions would be holidays (especially Mother's Day) and the evenings of concerts. (This happened to years ago, mind you.) Soo this was my first "live' music, concert thingy. It was pretty awesome, if it wasnt filled with old people and slow music. This coming from a 14 year older. (Well 14 now) The Good: The seating we had wasnt to shabby for folding chairs.. The bathrooms werent to far. Even if we were at a corner of the stage we seen the impersonator just fine. The stage was huge. The Elvis Presley impersonator. He was pretty good. The food was delicious! The merch was awesome to. Got a tie-dye jacket. The impersonator was also throwing teddy bears and scarfs into the crowd. The scenery from the patio had an awesome view. Got the dudes signature and picture. Not to bad looking. The Bad: My driver getting lost. Her stupid GPS. The coldness outside. Not to many complaints for me actually. Just leaving was a bit of hassle with everyone rushing to get to their buses and whatnot. The Strange: There was a groupie type old lady thing ~ ?! and boy was she strange. She could of least put clothes on. I guess thats a groupie for you though. The guy was on stage flirting with old married ladies.. o.O Overall, awesome place to see bands or even impersonators. I only saw one show there: Dennis DeYoung of Styx and it was a great time! I had comp tickets because I was a guest of Dennis and comp tickets are usually the worst seats in the house-which I cannot understand since the performer has a few seats set aside for friends and family. But, these comp tickets were great! I didn't like the flat level seating-if Johnny Gorilla sat in front of you-you wouldn't be able to see anything on stage. The acoustics are great since most of the place is constructed of wood which absorbs sound and not reflects it. I have to comment about the bar: They had three bartenders for several thousand people and no one way of taking drink orders in an orderly fashion. I stood in line for over an hour and still didn't get a drink. Fortunately, there was some beer backstage... they also have one of those basketball hoop machines backsatge which is fun to play. read more

I have not been to a show here in a while. It will be a long time till I consider going back. First, the bright lights flashing in your eyes! WHY? Who enjoys this? And they really need to get new sound people. All I heard all night was the drums, the piano and too loud vocals. There were some great musicians on stage, but you could not hear their instruments. The ladies room was filthy, need I say more. They advertise a full bar. Then why did my husband have to go upstairs for the drink he wanted? This place is like Jeckyll and Hyde. The concert venue is nice. The view is outstanding. The food at the attached restaurant Roadies is atrocious. My father in law enjoys the place so he takes my family on occasion. We now have s ritual where my wife and I will actually get a quick bite to eat before we leave so we are less disappointed with the food. While this may be a great venue for seeing shows, the food in the restaurant portion (called Roadie's ) is mediocre at best. One gets the distinct impression that most of the food originates in cans. The menu is extensive but rather basic - certainly nothing to write home about. I would recommend dining somewhere in the town of Jim Thorpe at one of the better restaurants and then pop up to Penn's Peak to see a show and drinks. Came to Penn's peak for a sold out Josh Turner concert. The concert was great from what I could HEAR of it. Buying the tickets I was never told that there was going to be a huge wooden pole right in our line of sight to the stage. They did have some tv screens for you to watch so obviously they are aware of the issue of not being able to see the stage. Very disappointed and won't be coming back to this venue. read more

I love this venue. Gorgeous wood decor. I have only seen to 2 shows here and it was the same band both times, The Winery Dogs. The view form the outside deck is amazing. The beer prices are cheap and the sound is great. It does not get any better than that for a show in my opinion. I have not eaten anything here so I have no idea how the food is. Great venue, went there from Rochester NY to see Dark Star Orchestra. Low rating reflects the PA Turnpike's decision to make exit 87 an ez pass only exit, yet my GPS led me to this exit both in and out. No signs telling how far to the next non-ez pass only exit was. If you are from out of town be careful. Cost me an additional $120 in fines to see this show. As a business catering to potential out of town visitors, maybe Penns Peak could put a warning on their website about this BS governmental money grab. I will not return. read more

I was just reading some of the reviews for bad sound at Penns Peak. For the people who write in complaining of excessive volume or feedback, you are morons. You should be reviewing the concert, not the venue. The sound crew is responsible for those issues, not Penns Peak. We have seen plenty of concerts there (Chris Isaak, Dave Mason, Dennis DeYoung) and the acoustics were fine. As far as the food goes, it is not a 5 star restaurant, but we have never had a food quality issue. The service, I will admit, is not the quickest, but if you are going to a concert, you should be in a MELLOW mood and leave yourself time to relax. All in all, this place is AWESOME!! read more

I attended the show labeled as 70s Disco Night. It was a concert, but I expected that there would also be a DJ present to help with the sound. We were charged $25.00 a piece not the $22.00 originally stated. I heard many great things about the Peak and it's concerts, so I was hyped. When we got there, there must have been at least 15 people on the dance floor. The music was attrocious, the singers were off key, the song list had the routine radio jams you normally heard on the radio and it ommitted some of the greatest songs ever made in the 70s. I was dissatisfied and wrote various emails to Customer Service. The response I received was dismissive not to mention his tone was offensive and condescending. My opinion it seems was not in the majority. I will never return this place, and now would prefer driving to either NY or NJ to see a real concert. read more

Went here last year after a rafting trip with a bunch of friends. The view is one of the most spectacular views I have ever seen. Waitstaff was wonderful and accommodating, the food and drinks were good and cheap. The same group of friends are going back in a week for our annual rafting trip, and were almost looking forward to the restaurant as we are the rafting! read more

Not easy to get to, but around here, everything is spaced apart, so it's to be expected. The view is fabulous! The food was great! All the sandwiches (lunch) had good flavor. Only one thing would have made it better; the chicken breast in the sandwich could be butterflies, so it's not a think chunk of meat in the middle with no meat at both ends of sandwich. $1 beer (special of the day, it just so happened) was a treat. Good staff, though it took a bit for the food for a not-so-busy middle of the week day. Will go again if we are in the area. read more

Great Music Venue, Great view.Seen some great shows at the Peak but unfortunately because of the Casino's and other venues in the area booking acts that used to play the Peak their bookings have dropped off dramatically. Their 'Sneak Peak' Memberships are not what they are cracked up to be and I would advise against. Advertised benefits such as Meet & Greets ( artists are now charging for these ) , Advanced ticket sales & Priority Seating ( most shows are general admission), VIP parking ( anyone parks there ) are gimmicks. However, if you're into cover or impersonation bands the Peak is a great place for you. read more

We saw Buddy Guy. This was our first time at this venue and will not go back. The show was good, the staff was super friendly and the drink and food prices were very reasonable. However, the seating is horrible! When we purchased the tickets we had no idea there were posts that would block the view of the stage! The rows are really tight. I sat next to a really tall gentleman and he had to maneuver his feet under the chair in front of him. He couldn't keep his lap flat. Eventually he stood on the side then left. We sat on the left side and there was a walk way that went from left to right. By the time the opening act was finished you couldn't tell there was a walk way because people were moving their chairs for more room. There was constant motion in the place even during the show. People using the restrooms, getting food, just walking around, standing on the side then walking again. It was very distracting. I wonder if all the movement was because the seating was so uncomfortable! read more

We traveled over 4 hours for a much anticipated rendezvous with our old pals, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Imagine our disbelief when we arrived at Penn's Peak and see the big sign announcing the cancellation of the concert! The ticket information says that they will alert you ASAP when shit happens and concerts need to be rescheduled. But they didn't ! So, what to do at 6PM at Penn's Peak? Yes.... on a beautiful and cool, clear, crisp early June night, what to do....you start drinking! That's what. The view from the deck was almost worth the long ride down from upstate NY and I was not about to turn around and drive back home. Thus I tempered my criticism and gave Penn's peak this A rating with a big reservation. To quell our pain and rage, we ordered rounds of Pomegranate Martinis at the suggestion of our waitress, and began to work our way up one side of the appetizer list and down the other side. I don't remember how we descended the steep mountain road from Penn's Peak to the PA Turnpike's NE Extension, but I do recall singing Mr Bojangles and many other NGDB arrangements all the way home. My summary- do enjoy the scenery from the deck of the Roadies Restaurant at Penn's Peak with a house special cocktail. I recommend the Pomegranate Martini. The bar food fare was not exceptional and was not cheap, either, but, considering that there is no place else to go once you ascend to Penn's Peak, make the most of it. They did a great job with Coconut Shrimp, just to mention one of their choices. Great Shrimp Caesar Salad too- a decent portion and a tangy dressing. My Tip- do not assume that the concert is on. Call them to be certain. Final note- my tickets were refunded promptly. So I give the Penn's Peak Management kudos for that. But my disappointment remains. And my head hurts! And I cannot comment about the acoustics or the seating arrangements or the crowd management or the parking.... nothing except that great view across the valley below on a clear day from the deck. I believe I could see east all the way to Newark, New Jersey. I think Bruce was performing there that night. Sigh! read more

Nice place went to see DSO and Phil Lesh on seperate occasions. BOTH times had to pass through and be harrassed by police at a checkpiont about 100 yards from the entrance both coming and leaving from venue. Im sorry bit would love to come back just probably wont. Deadheads Beware! They like our money but not us. read more

Do not go here if you're looking for a fun or relaxing night at a bar! My friend and I visited in late July 2011 to check out the view and enjoy a warm summer evening. Over the course of TWO hours we each had four 10oz. beers that were on special for $1.00 each. During this time we did not order any food because the selection did not seem appetizing, especially because they did not have any healthy options or selections without fried meat. In fact, the menu did not seem to include a single entree without meat in the dish. Around the two and a half hour mark, we each attempted to order another drink after being SPECIFICALLY ASKED by our server if we would like anything else. The result was that the server sent out the on-duty manager to inform us that she did not feel comfortable serving us another drink because our tab already included 8 drinks (apparently irregardless of what size they are or that two people split them over the course of two+ hours) and that we were basically being cut off after each having 4 watered down mini beers over the course of 2 1/2 hours. I'd like to highlight that we were not being loud, not using any profanity, not discussing any improper topics, nor were we acting in such a way that would imply we were inebriated to the point that we required the manager to "cut us off". In fact, there were hardly any other patrons out on the patio since at this point it was well after any dinner rush (probably 8:30ish). My impression of the situation is that as younger patrons than the place usually gets (expect the 40+++ crowd if you bother going) and the fact we were drinking the daily special without ordering food, the place just felt they were losing money by continuing to serve us. And, I guess I can say they're right, seeing as I will never go there ever again given the poor customer service I received and the lack of appetizing selections on the menu. I'd recommend checking out some of the other bars in Jim Thorpe or Lehighton if you're looking for a fun evening and a pleasant dining experience and only going up to Penn's Peak if you want to see a show staring a band that washed up during the 1980s. read more

Had my first visit to PP on Friday night. Nice venue. Didn't really care for the food at Roadies. Unfortunately we saw David Cassidy who put on a terrible show. He actually talked more than he sang and was singing songs that weren't in any way related to him or the Partridge Family (Beatles, Eric Clapton) even sang Ain't no Sunshine When She's Gone, What????? Then he started yelling at people in the audience and threw some people out for talking. It was a very bizarre show. We tthought we were going to hear a lot of the old stuff. NOT!!!! read more

We were visiting Jim Thorpe and I had read about Penn's Peak online before we went. It is a drive up a steep windy hill. But, it's the mountains, so; you expect that. We sat out on the top level deck, and; the view was breathtaking. I could have sat out there all day and been content. If you visit, take a light jacket if you sit outside. The temperature in the mountains is a little cooler, and, it can be slightly breezy. The food was very good, and, the prices extremely reasonable. We did not visit when there was a concert. However, another guest sitting next to us told us that they have great live entertainment. It's a great place to visit with the family, for lunch or an early dinner. read more

i love this venue so much i'm getting married there! I cant wait till the fall and Deb the event coordinator is amazing! lovely person and best customer service possible! We just had our food tasting and i am so excited that they do all the catering there and it is delicious! beautiful interior to dress up and the view of the trees is breath taking. On top of the venue is a restaurant and we are even able to have our rehearsal dinner there! So happy hour i believe exists as well. Live music, food and events. The place has it all! read more

I actually live about 10 miles from Penn's Peak and absolutely love going there any time of the year!! The view is beautiful, the building is beautiful. I have been there just for dinner, for dinner and concert (last concert I saw there was Govt Mule)....great acoustics, wonderful service!! A must go!! read more

There was a police check point before the show the last time I attended a concert there. Kinda lame. I have never been to a venue where they had a check point before the concert. Probably will give that place a break for awhile which is a shame because I have been attending concerts there for almost ten years. read more

It's a shame, because Penn's Peak used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I took friends and family here all the time when they came to visit, and enjoyed the live shows with friends. But they must have gotten a new chef or manager in, because now the food you get is half the size and twice as expensive! Looks like I'll have to find a new spot when in Jim Thorpe. read more

So I have to be honest... I called ahead of time to make reservations for my daughters 21st birthday. There were a total of 8 of us. We had never been here before and went on the suggestions of a family member who has not been there in years. First... All I requested was a small cake of sorts if they could do that they told me yes and someone would call me back with the price. I said I really didn't care about cost only that it had a candle. We arrived on a Thursday night right on time at 730pm and there wasn't a person In the restaurant. The waitress and two hostesses pulled me aside to let me know they could not call me back do to someone wrote my number down and they couldn't read it to give me a price on the cake so they now did not have one for my daughter. I assumed they just didn't call me back because I said I didn't care about the cost and we would still have a small cake or something. Further the menu is worse than a McDonald's menu. It was all frozen burger meat and in addition to my burger I ordered a salad and could not eat it because the vegetables were wilted and dried out and sour to be honest. The same complaints came from the rest of the people at my table. The only thing that was of any good was the apple crisp martini and our glasses of water. The tap beer was even warm. Our waitress was amazing however and kept apologizing for not having certain items or for the food being bad all around saying they have had a lot of complaints of their "new" menu. Anyway... I'm sure it's a good place for a small concert or entertainment but I will not be eating there again. The two stars is for our waitress... Otherwise I would give negative two! read more
