After a hike in Ghost Town we stopped to pick up a takeout order due to the Corona virus. We ordered two burgers, fries, strawberry milkshake and a cherry coke. This place is AWESOME! It's your standard diner, but this is the only 24/7 place for miles. They don't answer the phone much, but expect it to be open. Service is quite fast and all food is made to order right behind the counter. The biscuits and gravy is microwaved, but still pretty damn good. The coffee is alright-- free refills. We stopped here for lunch on way to Vegas last Thursday. Instead of doing our usual fast food at Barstow we decided to do a sit-down lunch in a restaurant. There are two in this vicinity. One has a long wait so we opted to check this diner out. It is located next to a low end Baymont hotel and has a stereotypical diner exterior with an retro interior look. We ordered breakfast eggs and sausage (served all day), burger with onion rings, grilled chicken sandwich, and chicken fried steak. When we ordered our food the portions of the food were really small but the pancakes were really big. We stayed at the hotel next door for several days and took advantage of the free breakfasts and had lunch/dinner here several times. Overall the food was 'ok' - a good deal for the price, but most times the food was cold. One meal everyone in the group had to send the plates back for warming because it was literally cold to the touch. I dont think we got a 'hot' meal the entire week. I can understand the pressure the waitress was under so I didn't mind that she wasn't present much. We ate here while staying at the hotel next door. I would say it is a pretty average diner. The food was good and reasonably priced. The diner could do with a little tlc but I guess that's down to management and I understand it's part of a corporation so I guess that's not going to happen any time soon. The staff were first class. Fast friendly, efficient and they work hard. The first morning we went there it was busy but the one waitress and one cook that were on duty never stopped, they waited tables, bussed tables, took orders, took payment. At one point the cook delivered the food to the table as the waitress was occupied, later we noticed him clearing and cleaning tables as again she was occupied, they deserve a raise! Last week on the way home from A Las Vegas Christmas we stopped for lunch. My BLT and my wife's omelet were prefect and as an added treat we had one of the nuttiest waitresses in the state. She was as entertaining as the food was good. It is a smallish place built in a railroad-dining-car type "diner" structure and they serve up a "home cooking" menu - I can't get too fancy on the review because it is not a fancy place. Stopped here on our way home from Vegas. I ordered the create your own 3 egg omelette with ham and all the veggies. It was a good portion but tasted just OK. Hesitant to eat here at first because I can't stand places that go for that weird 50's theme, which looks NOTHING like the 1950's in all actuality. But we stayed next door and decided to give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this place was. The waitresses were super friendly and the food was better than I expected. So many coffee shop places have really gone cheap on the ingredients and sides, but this place does it right and your food doesn't taste like it was sprayed with Pam right before it was served to you. I went here on 2/28/20 and the girl Jessica was hanging out on her phone so I figured my boyfriend and I would sit outside for a change. So she took our order of 2 steak specials and an order of the wings. She completly forgot about my order of my wings and actually said to me "oh my God i totally forgot about it! Im so sorry" and she made both steaks well when 1 was supposed to be med rare and the other was supposed to be med well but instead super rare and we paid $50... but this morning I came back at 6am (stoner/trucker hrs in my opinion between 12am and 6am...lol)and I felt welcomed. I pulled in and Eduardo was cleaning the flattop and tiding up,(great use of spare time) and I was greeted by Maria in the most uplifting way, so already I was feeling better. So I Also saw Ronnie who was EXCELLENT with his cooking the time before the Jessica incident. Ronnie was the reason why my boyfriend and I came back. So the photos below are the work of Eduardo... I will be back since I felt these employees fixed what Jessica almost broke..In short my best experiences so far are with these employees : Maria, Ronnie, and Eduardo because they care about the food and how the customer feels. read more

Located in the "better half" of Yermo just off the I-5 highway, Penny's is a 50's style rail car diner that serves up some great classic American food with yesteryear's friendly service. Servers that will call you "honey" and "sweetie" offer some pretty generous burgers here 24 hours a day to mainly travelers that driving between Southern California and Nevada. It's definitely much less advertised than Peggy Sue's Diner in the same area, but has some more "flair" in the decor and style of the restaurant. Our hero and his traveling buddies noticed their "monster" burger combo on the menu, which featured a 2/3 pound patty that had a huge list of complimentary toppings: onions (grilled or raw) lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, bacon, jalapenos, cheese (American, Swiss, pepperjack), or an egg. Of course, just to one-up one another, our hero and another very hungry friend had to order the "monster" with nearly all the available options on top. That was the only meal of the day they both had to eat. After our hero's meal, he scrawled on the whiteboard walls of the diner with dry erase markers the waitress provided, leaving his mark for travelers to come (as long as it doesn't get erased). PROS: - Open 24/7. - The servers are real sweethearts. - Huge burger combos that are a better bang for the buck than their big chain competitors. We had lunch here on our way back to Las Vegas. The service was very friendly and helpful. The diner itself is quite entertaining. We were able to have our dog with us on the outdoor patio in the back. The fare is good. Better, we thought, than what you could get in Baker where you'd have to compete with everyone else stopping there on their way to or from Las Vegas.
