Nice place to pop into on an afternoon. Every spice imaginable, very homey ambience, staff are very helpful as well.

Every time I place a delivery order it turns into such a debacle. Navigating the website is horrible, especially if you have a cell phone only. Then they have things that are named the same but are different. How is that OK and then to do a return they want you to mail it back instead of just bringing it to a store to exchange it. Makes me not want to shop here. I used to shop at the Spice merchant, I really miss them. If they hadn't closed down, I would've never stepped foot into Penzey's. In my opinion, their customer service is horrible!!

    Justice. It's new.

One of the better locations. I guess because it closer to the home base of Wawatosa but Mannnn... This location 1. Larger than the Charlotte location 2. Offers more sections than the Charlotte location. 3. Has happier employees and that's saying a lot because of all the locations I have visited this is the perky one 4. Won't harass you to pull up a coupon when they know of said coupon floating about. 5. Beats the Durham location for parking and employee joy and floor plan layout. Mr. Penzeys is what made me check them out and his politics have kept me loyal. Plus, it's local and a small business feel even though they're no longer small biz. Keep it up and give them a try. They're doors away from Conscious Carnivore. Any obtuse or not routine spice or season may lead you here.

in general the products are good but overpriced. There are better options if you Google spice blends.

Do they sell bulk spice you can measure yourself, like the self-serve at Earth Fare or Bulk Foods? Looking for a place to get smaller quantities but also has a wide selection.

We went there 3 days ago and were very disappointed. The food's still good, but the service was terrible. The waitress was very nice and apologized for the slow service and said that they had more business than expected on a Thursday night. Ok, that happens. Our entrees were brought out. I was given my wife's and she received mine - no big deal but a harbinger of things to come. We ordered a small plate as an appetizer to have with our cocktails. We were half-way through our entrees when I had to ask about it. The staff didn't seem to be particularly concerned that we had our entrees half eaten and had to ask about our small plate. It finally came, by which point we didn't really want it. We left and went to Sardine for a glass of wine where the service and food are unfailingly top notch. I'm not saying I won't go back, but it is no longer on my 'go-to' list because it has now become unpredictable. It's too expensive for that.

While the dining room doesn't lend itself to a romantic evening (bar overlooking the kitchen, a few high tops and communal long tables), the rest of the experience is top notch. I stopped In for lunch and ordered the ginger fried chicken. A savory flavor bomb, the chicken was perfectly fried and moist and the brioche bun outstanding. I loved the chili crisp mayo along with the house made pickles. I was stuffed but the housemade malt gelato and brioche ice cream sammy called my name. Yes, it was rich. True, it was decadent. Valid, tons of calories. But....so so good. A must try in the land of landscape of very non-original restaurantsrestaurants that seem to be popping up in Madison.

Lucky for us, pizza night was on Tuesday. This pizza was outstanding! Better than any pizza we had ever had. Delicious crust, toppings that melded together perfectly and with all this deliciousness, we added some cold beer from the bar. The setting was lovely, the band was great and the customers (mostly locals we believe) were friendly and fun. This is a must go-to restaurant when in the area. In fact, I would suggest that anyone heading towards this part of WI, make sure to hit this spot on a Tuesday in the summer! It will be worth the trip!

Keep in mind that was from a bunch of country folk who don't share my love of quality food, and to be honest I've been pizza'd to death. On a whim I went here a little over a month ago and I have back every Tue for the last 5 weeks! This is a 5 star dive bar/restaurant that I love! The place is really odd, but the food is great. In the back (as in the middle of their yard) they have a stone, wood fired pizza oven. Think of the coziness of your backyard but bigger with a dozen patio tables widely spaced under mature trees while having someone play live music. There are three tables/station one serving pizza, another meat (steaks, ribs, etc) and the third beer and wine, but no feel of commercialism at all. This has the feel of a perfect personal bbq, or of a family gathering, but serving pizza and I mean great pizza, clearly the best in Wisconsin. You get one size, I would say 16-18", for a mere $10 dollars even. My favorite is the gorgonzola and pear with caramelized onions and walnuts, on a perfect crust (insert Homer Simpson drooling sound). Followed by the sausage mushroom, made with home made sausage and marinated portabella mushrooms. They have quite a list of pizzas to choose from. The wine is $5 a glass and beer is $3.75 and they carry all the  local Wisconsin favorites (Lake Louie, Ale Asylum, Capital, New Glarus). They are not a restaurant for say but a shop, although they are open business hours the pizza is only on Tuesday 4:00pm to 8:00pm. They do other cooking events on odd days, I personally have not attended any of these due to the inconsistency that they take place. The food was so good I will make a consorted effort to attend one of the events. They do have seating inside, but no wait staff. I must mention the place is spotless, one of my pet peeves is the dirtiness of some of the independent establishments and I assure you this well taken care of. I don't think this is a financial endeavor but an act of love. Everyone is friendly and appear to know each other. Although no servers there is an army of people helping prepare food in the kitchen, which you ironically have to walk through the end of to get outside. This place is a come as you are, all are welcome place with great food, great people, and live music. What more could you ask for.... I will see you there

My husband and I stopped in at Telsaan for lunch and tea while in the area for a long weekend trip…read more I make a point of stopping in tea shops whenever I'm visiting a new town that has one. But I was also very intrigued by the tartine and couscous options on the menu. We ordered a couple of the specialty drinks - I got the toasted marshmallow tea and my husband go the chai coffee. We ordered two of the tartines and split a couscous entree. All of the above was delightful, fresh and well-portioned. Though I will add that the toasted marshmallow tea drink really does have a toasted, campfire flavor to it. So prepare to be transported in that respect. The owner helped us and kept a tab open for us, as I knew we would be leaving with at least some loose leaf tea. She also instructed us as how things in the shop work: there are large tins of loose leaf tea lining the walls of the space and small samples to smell each of teas. We settled on an almond oolong and a mint green tea to add to our home collection. We've brewed the almond oolong since and it is delightful. Not to mention, the prices were very reasonable - with a discount the more you buy! Oh and a helpful tip - they only accept debit or credit, no cash or check! The space is also very cozy and sweet. The owner brought us our drinks first, while we waited for lunch. There was a fairly sizable selection of board games, so we played Parcheesi while sipped our tea/coffee and awaited lunch. She apparently hosts game nights fairly frequently, which sounded really fun. We had a great time getting to know the owner a bit more on the way out. And I even bought a darling vintage tea cup and the perfect mid-size tea infuser. Money all well spent! I highly recommend stopping in for at least a flavorful cup of tea, if not something to nibble.
