I hired People Movers to move from California to Texas. I had high hopes for it since my "moving consultant"professional promised me "I'm moving with you. So I'll be checking in with you every step of the way". From the moment I signed the contract and paid my deposit, I never heard from her again. During the contract process there was an opportunity to purchase extra insurance. Shame on me for not doing it, but in the process, she told me that People Movers would take such impeccable care of my things that it would be wasted money, and I would not need it. The movers showed up on August 16th to retrieve my things. The movers were friendly and seemed to take good care when loading the truck. There were multiple pieces of furniture that they had to wrap (ie. Dining room table, couch, coffee table, bed frame, etc). They also seemed to do this with care. I bought the movers dinner and made sure there were water bottles for them. My move-in date was August 23rd. My "moving consultant" from our first conversation told me that the truck would almost certainly arrive on the 23rd, the 24th at the latest. The contract had a 7 day window written into it to account for inclimate weather, truck issues, or unavoidable traffic issues. I called dispatch on the 23rd @ 10:00 AM and to my surprise my belongings had been unloaded into a warehouse and had yet to be packed onto a truck to be delivered. A truck arrived on Thursday, September 26th, but due to an apparent mix-up in paperwork the truck did not have my things on it. I sat around for 48 hours calling the company trying to get an answer on where my things were, and when they'd arrive. When I finally got reception on the phone I asked to speak with ownership. She informed me that the dispatch leader directed her not to give me anyone's contact info. After 2 more weeks, and no communication, I received a call from a driver on Monday, September 6th around 11:00 am CST. This was Labor Day, and I was on a kayak on the River. The driver said he would be there with my things within the hour. I explained I didn't know he was coming, and he had to wait for me. I returned home as quickly as I could. He was not there. He did not arrive until 6pm that evening, and would not answer my call or give me an update, so I sat around waiting on a holiday. When they finally arrived, I was blown away and disgusted with how my things had been treated. My queen sized mattress had been folded in half and wrapped in tape. The thick plastic I placed it in to protect it was torn to shreds and there is a large hole in the top of the mattress. The dining room table has a 4 inch chunk of wood taken out of it. A book shelf has scratches across the front of it making it look like it was dragged across asphalt. There is a big dent in the metal trash can. And, the mirrored dresser is cracked on the front. Ironically, even in boxes that were crushed, packed upside down or sideways, and destroyed, the contents of the boxes that I packed on my own were all unharmed. There were also four major items missing, and two boxes that did not belong to me. - Baseball Artwork - artwork I made that featured baseballs that had messages written to my grandfather at his funeral - Large black duffel bag - filled with all my formal and work wear and outerwear (8 suits, dozens of dress shirts, ties, and over a dozen expensive jackets) - Area Rug from Crate and Barrel - Dining Room Chair Three of the four missing items have been returned to me. All the images I took of how my things were packed display a level of negligence on the part of People Movers that I have chosen to move forward with arbitration. People Movers has since not answered my phone calls, left emails requesting steps for arbitration unresponded to, and ignored certified mail demanding steps for arbitration. So far, it's been a nightmare. ALL OF OUR THINGS ARE MISSING, AND WE CAN'T GET IN TOUCH WITH ANYONE! My Partner Cody and I are moving from Roseville, California to Washington State for our careers (Approx. 13 hours by car.) We were initially hesitant to employ movers due to the cost, but Sacramento People Movers offered us discounted pricing after we inquired for quotes and we were going to use U-Haul. We chose to take this offer after reading the online reviews and scheduled our move-out date for 1/3/2022, about a month before our move. People Movers contacted us after about a week or two to ask us to reschedule our moving date, but we couldn't because we had to leave for work in Washington state. They said we'd still be fine for the move. On 1/3/2022, we received a text message confirming that the movers will arrive between 11AM and 1PM. After some time passed and they were still not there at 1PM, we decided to contact them to see if they were still on their way. They stated they'd be an hour late, but they'd be there by 2:15PM. Then, at 2:30PM, they still hadn't arrived, so we called again and were assured they'd be there in another 45 minutes. We asked if we may leave so that we could begin our travel to Washington, but they stated we had to be present to sign off on paperwork. Cody stayed behind to wait for the People Movers as I went with our Pets so we could get to our next stop on schedule. We packed the majority of our belongings into boxes and duffel bags that could conveniently be transferred into the truck, thinking that they would load our belongings in the kitchen, bedroom closets, and larger appliances/computers/furniture as part of the package we purchased. When they arrived, Cody stated that his experience with the Movers was legitimate, and they took inventory of all our belongings before packing, but they will have to charge us an additional $500 for a "complete" pack because not everything was boxed up. Angela was supposed to call us to go through the expectations of the move and to get a better grasp of how many things we had, but when she called, it was simply for the initial downpayment of $699. We were dissatisfied since we had previously packed a lot of our personal belongings, which would have been packed for us for an additional $500, putting us above our budget for the moving company. We didn't ask the movers any questions because we were already late for our trip, we paid them the $2100 moving charge via Zelle, and Cody left 1 hour after me. We soon realized that they didn't have our address in WA and attempted calling them, but there was STILL NO ANSWER. We tried phoning the office and texting Anthony at People Movers, who is in charge of coordinating appointments, the next day, 1/4/2022, and have yet to receive a response. We subsequently received a call from the Truck Driver informing us that he would be dropping off our belongings at our destination at 12 p.m., but they didn't have our address! We attempted to contact the driver again, but our calls were forwarded to Voicemail. We arrived at the apartments to find no moving truck, no one had contacted to indicate they had delivered anything or asked for the remainder of the payment, and we tried calling/texting them again with no response. We tried calling again in the morning of 1/5/2022 and received the same voicemail. We have no idea where or when our belongings will arrive and are at a loss for what to do. I would not refer this company to anyone. **UPDATE** We finally received a call from People Movers and they're trying to quote us an additional $3,500 for our move which is far above the budget we had for moving. They said they will not release our items from the Sacramento Warehouse it is being stored in until we payout the full $7,000. This company will extort you for more money. If you read their reviews on Yelp! and the Better Business Bureau website, you will see they have rated 1 star and a D+ rating for their business practices. read more

Hired them to move from Sacramento, California to Arkansas. They kept changing the price quote, even after being told what we required them to pack and move beforehand. Super disorganized, and it was very clear there was little to no communication between the actual handymen and the administrative employees. They were 3 weeks late from the date we were given, they would either not pick up the phone or just tell us they had no idea where the drivers were at all! The first day they said they would arrive their truck broke down, which I can't fault them for entirely, but the day they DID arrive, the actual movers were 3 hours late, and didn't communicate with the driver at all, so we had a very stressed russian man pacing in our driveway and apologizing for them being so late. The movers in Arkansas were alright when they EVENTUALLY arrived, though not the same people who had packed everything up back in California. THOSE people did the bare minimum of packing things with moving blankets, haphazardly threw things in boxes with little rhyme or reason, were not careful at all. Several things were broken due to this, and they handled the boxes we packed very poorly, as several of the boxes were smashed pretty badly. Several pieces of furniture were broken, though I must stress it was by whoever had packed these things back in California; not the people who arrived in Arkansas to move things into the new house. Wouldn't surprise me if they hired them last second off craigslist to be perfectly honest. They also stole several of our possessions as well! Including fishing rods, camping gear, several antiques, a toolbox set that had tools belonging to my mother's grandfather. Overall, a fucking shitty ass company that steals your stuff, over charges you while changing the price constantly, and doesn't communicate with you at all! We spent Thanksgiving without weather appropriate clothes (california winter is very different than an arkansas winter and all our warm clothes were packed up!!!) on blow up mattresses because of these people. Though I suppose we should be grateful we even have our belongings in the first place. Do not hire this dogshit company. You'd be better off with literally anyone else. The company deserves to be shut down and everyone who's ever had the displeasure of hiring them to be reimbursed and entirely refunded, and then some. read more

They were great when scheduling our move and showing up on the scheduled moving date, but when it came to our delivery date they were 10 days later than our original delivery date, they only showed up with a driver and 1 helper. We were tired of living in a hotel so we (my brother, nephew and 75 y/o mother) helped in 100 degree heat. Once we finally got completely moved in we had several damaged items and notified their claims department (which was a separate company) as well as we were requesting a partial refund for us having to unload the truck. They told us that we were not responsible for helping and that there would be NO REFUND! Once our claim went through for the damaged items they never sent the refund. If I could give them a worse rating I would. I had this company estimate my office move. We were moving 12 miles, gave me an estimate of $3,200, which was fine. They then loaded my office and then proceeded to tell me it was $9,500 and I had to get a cashier's check for them or they wouldn't unload my office. If this wasn't extortion, not sure what is. To say the least, i am suing them for fraud and bad faith. They also destroyed a book case an our big screen TV for the conference room. Their so called, Insurance Claims, offered me $31.20. If I could give it a negative number I would. Definitely do your research, get everything in writing, take pictures, take videos. Get the names of the people who have been locally hired. One third of the crew for my packing stage was great. However the other not so much. Very few boxes were labeled with any kind of markings ( they packed my purse in a box and had to open several boxes to find it. They dumped drawers ( in the process I can not find my mothers and grandmothers jewelry) I ended up finding one of my mothers diamond earrings but none of the other jewelry). Clothes were thrown into the wardrobe boxes not hung up. Gasoline cans with gas were in boxes with brand new clothes. Corner curio cabinet broken corner. Could not find the hardware to put my bed together and the shed I had outback. While unloading in Texas one of the hired crew approached and asked if I had any drugs I could give him. When I called a supervisor all I got was a I will look into this and get back with you Please I wish someone would call me from the company and at least speak to me. read more
