Person at the front was super nice and helpful. They have samples here too at the front and you have a window to look through to see the workers make the jerky in the back (pretty cool). Their carne seca line is really good. Don't get it and leave a bad review because it's dry because that's what carne seca is lmao. I love it because since it's dry, your saliva "moisturizes it" and penetrates through the meat to bring out the great flavors inside, which is so good you wouldn't believe it. Went on a beef jerky tour with People's Choice Beef Jerky and it was so fun. Tried their jerky for the first time! I tried most of their flavors and they're all delicious. They have so many flavors to choose from, you'll find one that you love here. I love the old fashioned line, a thicker cut of jerky, which I love, I just wish the old fashioned line came in teriyaki. My favorite is the Classic Teriyaki Beef Jerky as I'm a sweet beef jerky kind of gal. I also recently tried their seasonal Maple Brown Sugar Beef Jerky and that's probably my second favorite. I got to see how they prep their beef jerky, how they season it, the whole cooking process and how it all gets packed. They use the freshest ingredients. I also love that their beef is sourced locally in California as well as Washington. When you bite into their beef jerky, you can taste the quality and the seasonings for each flavor so well. Keep in mind, the jerky here is on the drier side, if that is what you prefer then you will love this. They don't use sugar, honey or preservatives in most of their jerky so it's not as tender as other jerky brands. They also use knuckle and lifter cuts which are leaner cuts of beef. I would definitely come back. These would be a perfect gift for family and friends, they have monthly boxes you can subscribe to as well. They've been around for over 90 years. They are family-owned. It's a family business that has been passed down through four generations. Everything is done in the heart of downtown LA. I was told they opened their storefront recently in the last year. After seeing an ad for this place on Facebook, I decided to drive down here on a Monday to check out the different flavors available to me. According to the Yelp pictures, I saw that they had samples of their products, so this was what inspired me to take a drive. Just a bit of warning, this place is in a sketchy part of Downtown LA. So be careful when you are driving here as to avoid any vagrants walking around. The entrance is secured and someone will need to buzz you in. Once I entered, I noticed how small the retail portion was. To be fair though, this is a factory and I should be thankful that there's a store front. Walked in and noticed that they only had 2 items available for sampling. I was a bit disappointed, but with the help of a customer and the store clerk, I was swayed in to a few flavors to try. I forgot her name, but the clerk was very helpful and fantastic. Because it was right after Black Friday, she extended their sale to me. So of course, I took advantage of it and bought a whole bunch of flavors. Almost got one of everything. Overall, I don't know if I would want to make the drive down here due to the area, but if their jerky is good, then I will definitely order more in the future. read more

Behind this hidden door is where all the magic happens. The meat is first sliced then placed in a marination machine which holds 1200 lbs in under 30 minutes! After being meticulously laid out on racks, they're ready to go in these GIANT ovens at 350 degrees. Packaging, shipping, and distribution all happens in house, and they've got it all down to a science. Oh my gosh, this stuff is DANGEROUS, you guys. It's more thick and dry compared to newer types of jerky and I personally prefer that style. It's as natural and old school as it gets. Their "Classic Jerky" has more of the main stream jerky texture you find in the grocery store. It comes in original, teriyaki, spicy, and comes as either jerky or sticks. Their "Carne Seca" focuses on flavors of Mexico, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. Flavors such as Hatch Chile, Limon con Chile, and Machaca. Their final category and the most exciting due to the constant rotation of flavors is the "Tasting Kitchen". Good thing is you'll find new and exciting flavors but the bad news is sometimes if that flavor isn't popular it'll disappear. As of today the flavors are Nashville Hot, Cowboy Peppered, Garlic Ginger, Maple Brown Sugar, Orange Honey Teriyaki, and Sweet Chili Habenero. I honestly have loved every single flavor but right now I'm totally hooked on their Nashville Hot. It's brutally spicy yet so damn good you just keep eating it while choking and crying. I'm about 6 hours away and have always dreamed of dropping by to see where all the magic happens. The stars happened to align the Columbus Day and I happen to be in the vicinity. As the others mention, The store is in a pretty sketchy neighborhood but not to the point where I felt it was dangerous. We get buzzed in and I was immediately surprised how small it was. They have a few sample jars that were limited to beef sticks and the one maple brown sugar jerky. There was a window where you could see people putting the raw beef on racks and oddly they didn't look like they had gloves on. My vision of this being the Willy Wonka of Beef Jerky fizzled a little. What I was really disappointed in was the very limited variety of samples we could sample. I'm familiar with there products but wanted my family to be able to try before they buy. We wound up buying over $200 worth of stuff anyway but that's only because I'm familiar with their products. Lastly, it might even be cheaper to buy online because they have a subscribe option that gives you an extra bonus. Peoples Sausage has been in DTLA since 1939 but I recently found them on Amazon when searching for keto beef jerky. It's hard to find beef jerky that doesn't have some type of sweetener (sugar, honey, maple syrup). I ended up ordering small amounts of the original beef jerky and the beef sticks through Amazon just to see if I liked it. The original beef jerky (4/5) is on the drier side but once you start chewing, the well seasoned beef taste comes out. It isn't soft as most other beef jerky because it doesn't have sugar, honey, or preservatives. I also liked the chewy, slightly oilier sea salt and pepper beef stick (4/5). Rather than order more online via Amazon or Peoples Sausage website, I decided to visit the shop. I was curious to check out the operation. Because the shop is only open weekdays from 6am to 2:30pm, I ended up going before work at 6am. Its on a clean street in the fashion district. The area seemed relatively safe, well lit, and had lots of metered parking out front. Upon entering the shop I noticed that it was very busy! Lots of workers processing and storing beef jerky. Upon first entering the shop we were greeted warmly and helped immediately by Kevin. I told him I was interested in keto beef jerky and he went over all the options in detail. He also mentioned that buying 5, one pound bags, would reduce the per bag price from $20 to $18. If you like jerky this is a great deal because Amazon sells 1 lb bags for about $28. He said that I can also call ahead to place a pick up order to save time. I ended up taking advantage of the deal and bought the original, spicy, and carne seca (chili and lime) flavors. All of the jerky come in smaller bags but the 1 lb bags have the best price per oz. I'm so happy that Peoples Sausage is in DTLA and thriving. It's a great place to get delicious beef jerky! These people will screw up your order and then tell you that you are rude. I had to cancel a big order because they refuse to have manager contact me to discuss it. Don't do business with them unless you want to waste a lot of time dealing with people who don't read simple emails about orders, and then tell you it's your fault, and then ignore you when you ask them to explain, and then ignore you again when you request a manager. There crisps are dry and tasteless anyway, the jerky is better but expensive to deal with the issues. There are better companies for this. read more
