How on earth do you give this place stellar reviews? My son has purchased a full set of tires from these folks. He had a tire that seemed to have a leak and he took the tire off and brought it to them along with a bad tire that he wanted to replace. They charged him $20 for the repair. He brought it back home in my trunk. Their shop to my trun to my driveway. No possibility of a hazard. I met my son in the driveway to help him put everything back together. He felt accomplished. Luckily, I caught a glimpse of something metallic as we rolled the repaired tire to his car. Looking closer I knew it was a nail. I immediately tried to call Pep Boys, but they didn't answer three minutes until closing. I understand. We needed the car back in service. Time to invoke the spirit of the previous generation and share it with the next. I sent my son to the Auto Parts store for a repair kit and I taught him how to do it himself when people with the tools let you down or when you only have $10 and not $20. I figured Pep Boys would make things right the next day because they are a reputable business, right? WRONG. My son took the video I shot to them the next day (Highlight pictures from That video are attached for your pleasure),. He also brought his receipt for the tire repair kit, and his receipt where they charged him $20 for the repair...and they told him to go fly a kite. They took advantage of a 17 year old kid, folks. They had the gall to try to challenge their customer's integrity!! These folks aren't worth one star, but that's the lowest I can give them. Don't do business with unethical people like this. I will pay more somewhere else every time for a company that respects me and my issue as their customer. read more

Purchased a lifetime (of car) alignment package on my new vehicle. Had several alignments done, no issues. Took it in for some noise issues I thought might be due to wheel bearings. Was told car needed wheel bearings on all 4, brakes and tires (which I knew and was planning to purchase). Was told by several people, it was unusual for all 4 bearings to be bad. Went to a legit business near my work. Only 1 bearings needed replaced, brakes are fine and I am purchasing tires from them. I of course won't be back and will have my alignments done elsewhere as I'm not sure they know what they are doing. read more

I won't ever use pep boys again. They cross threaded a lug nut on my wife's car. On top of that they torqued the lug nuts way too tight. So it spun the splines on the stud. Bought tires for my work car last year a bubble came up on one they don't have the tire in stock so I asked if they would take the old tire off the rim and ship the new tire to my house they wouldn't do that. I live a hour away from them why I wanted it shipped. And I had called in advance and was told to bring it up there. What could improve if that pep boys would close down read more

I made a 1:00 appointment last Saturday to have tires rotated/balanced and an oil change. I arrived at 12:45 on an exceptionally warm and beautiful December day, having knocked out some errands more quickly than I thought. I signed up for their text reminders and did not receive any; I did get an email confirmation of my appointment, or I would have forgotten the exact time. The indoor waiting area is nice and, like 99.99% of businesses in N AL, football is on the TV, GRrrrrrrrrrrr. I realize I am in the minority when it comes to this, but I just cannot stand football. Sure, I could have asked to change the channel but I opted to wait outside and plunked down on a piece of newspaper in the grass, wrote Christmas cards and read a book. I say that to say it would have been nice to have a picnic table or at least a couple of chairs or a bench outside for this wait. Whatever, I digress. Also the ladies room was not in that great of shape. Still I can't ding them for that, really. Around 2 hours later, they called me to say that my back tire had picked up a nail that they could fix. Did I purchase the plan with the tires whereby this stuff is included? Heck if I know. I just know I get free rotation and balance. The lady had me call the store I bought the 4 tires from (Madison) and I explained everything to "Tom" who said he would contact the store (Athens) directly and that I should not have had to call them myself (Athens told me they are on separate computer systems and cannot access the other store's customer information). Then PB mentioned the air filter and cabin air filters needed changing and recommended a tune up and a coolant flush. I change my filters myself and opted out of that, and opted out of the tune up. I did get the coolant flush and I guess that is what added another hour to the wait. Just before 3, I had the tire fixed, oil changed, tires balanced and rotated and coolant flush. I confirmed that Tom had called and one of the 3 workers said "yes" and that I did purchase the coverage. WIN! Grand total for all this goodness came in at just under 140.00 which I thought was really fair. I'm not sure their appointment system is really that efficient, as one would think you would be helped early if you show up early. PB's was hopping and every bay was full this past Saturday. All in all a nice (as can be expected when you're doing boring car stuff) experience and I'll be back to the Athens PBs which is super close to home. read more

Worst customer service ever. After waiting for about 10 minutes with one person in line ahead of me finally got to register to pay. Clerk had to answer the phone and then had to go to the shop to get one of the mechanics to the phone. He came back and went into the waiting area and then came back to the other register to help someone else. finally I had to ask him to come back and finish my transaction so I could leave. read more

Even though you make an appointment. Don't expect them to get to you on your appointment time. I had an appointment at 8. I showed up at 8 and then was asked to drop my truck off and leave it all day because they couldn't get to me because the only lift was full. My job would've taken 45 minutes tops. So don't expect them to get to you on your appointment time because that time doesn't matter to them read more

Mo and Mark are awesome!! While on a cross-country trip, we needed a tire at short notice and about half hour before closing on a Friday. They not only replaced the tire we needed, they inspected all the other tires and found a blister on another tire, which could have blown at anytime. Downside we needed another tire, upside we didn't have a blowout at 70 miles per hour! Overall, great treatment and technical assistance in a difficult situation. Took vehicle in for tires a month ago told them to check brakes. Tires were mounted and balanced and was told brakes are fine. Took vehicle back in last week because noise coming from tires. Truck was determined to have brakes worn to the point of having the rotors replaced . If they had checked the truck when tires were replaced I probably would have been out $170.00 but the oversight cost me an additional $400.00. Service Mgr says probably was a wheel cylinder bad. In my experience when something goes bad it don't fix itself . They WERE DOING ALL tires and oil changes on all vehicles, trailers. NOT ANYMORE. read more

Horrible experience. I took the car in for shocks and struts, with the car being promised the next day. The next day they never called. I reached out when they opened the next morning, and they said the part came in broken. FOUR DAYS LATER, they claimed the car was ready. When I picked it up, my brakes were not working. It was all I could do to stop my car before rolling into traffic on a busy highway. The hose had a gash in it, and a pool of brake fluid was underneath. They insisted that the two issues were unrelated, even though there is documentation on the Internet stating that improper shock and strut installation could have caused the issue. They charged me hundreds of dollars to replace the brake hose. Now, my car is making a suspicious noise. If you want to be out thousands of dollars just to experience horrible customer service and be less than confident in the workmanship, then go ahead and take your car there. read more

Had my 17 year old daughter go here today and ask the to rotate her tires. The store manager had told her that he couldn't rotate the tires due to they where is not enough tread on the tires to rotate them she had called me and I ask to speak with the gentlemen she talked to and he went to explaining to me why he could not due not enough tread on tires and would cause non-traction on wet road conditions. I had ask him why he would be trying to sale her a new set of tires when the one had less than 10,000 miles on them he did have an excuse. So to make a long story short they haven't look at the tires and try to take advantage of a young lady that they thought did not know what she is talking about and when I inquired he got defensive and ask me to leave. Almost $94 dollars for an oil change, not full synthetic. Checked oil after I left and found the level barely above the add mark, almost a full quart low. Also had oily fingerprints on outside drivers door and on interior drivers door panel. After filling the oil to the proper level, I checked again when I got home and found a service rag left under the hood. not recommended at all ! read more

I was priced 4 tires and installation but when I went to have them installed their price was MUCH higher. They dropped their price some but was still higher . I was able to get a better tire for less in Decatur at a local home owned business. This is the second local Pep Boys that tried to rip me off. I'm done with Pep Boys altogether. read more

Rip off! Said we needed new brakes and new rotors but truck still under 50k miles!! Took to dealer & they said it DID NOT need new brakes and rotors only needed resurfacing. I had taken the truck to the them 2 weeks earlier for the vibration and they said tires needed air, I had been there about 2 weeks earlier than that for tire rotation & balance!! So this time when I took it back in they said they'd have to drive it to feel the vibration, dealership did not drive, they knew exactly what to check. Two stars Pepboys in Athens, Alabama for not holding up your end. Today I pulled in at 9:30a.m to get a new front tire. The guy behind the desk confirmed the size was in stock and then I asked how long it would take. I explained that I had three of my sons (ages 1-3) with me and they wouldn't make it an hour in the waiting room without coming unglued. The Pepboys employee explained that they made appointments and had an opening at 11:00am. When I asked how long it would take to put the new tire on he looked at a mechanic standing beside him and they both confirmed that with an appointment "maybe twenty minutes". I left, went shopping at Walmart, bought us chow at Sonic and came back in just a couple minutes before my 11:00am appointment. We gave up the keys and went to the waiting area, ate our fries and hung out. Nap time for all three is actually at 11:00am, but I thought I'd risk it because riding on the little black doughnut tire with kids inside is never a good feeling. At 11:30 the fries and sippy cups ran out. I looked around and the van was still in the same spot i had parked. After explaining my situation, making an appointment and half an hour in they hadn't even put it on the rack. I scooped up two car seats full of babies and my other toddler, got my van keys and left. Part of me feels like I have some blame for believing the two employees so they get 2 stars instead of 1 for today. read more
