Never again! Ordered 4 tires online and scheduled appt. Arrived and they had delivered the wrong tires (wrong size). I was not told the tires were wrong until I had waited an hour and all 4 tires on my car had been removed. As I was soon to go on a trip, I agreed to accept another (lesser) brand they had readily available. After waiting over 3-1/2 hours (!) my tires were installed and, supposedly, balanced. I soon saw that they had absolutely destroyed my rims -- all 4 banged up, scratched and dented all the way around! They tried to tell me I had done it! No way -- not even sure how I could without bouncing off curbs (on both sides) all the way down the road! No, they were near perfect when I arrived but Pepboys employees and manager refused to even talk to me! Manager on duty was a temporary from another city and he was not handling anything! Anyway, set out on my trip the next day --- tires were badly vibrating - clearly, badly out of balance. This place sucks took truck in under warranty for a check engine light that came on and went off. My scanner says it was code p2099-00 I check it right be for i took it in. They said everything is fine. They told me that I'm good to go. I told them it needs o2 sensor and it was under warrant. The hole time time worked on my truck they did not get aproved from the warranty company to put the scanner on it so when there are done I went to leave and they said I owe them for putting the scanner on it. I do not recommend this place. They have the rudest customer service when contacting the corporate office to make a complaint about work that has already been paid for and was done incorrectly or improperly. I had my clutch replaced and paid $1,625.99 in cash before my vehicle was returned to me or repaired. After I finally received my vehicle and was driving home my vehicle experienced the same issues so I turned around took it back and told the manager Ace and he told me to drive it home and bring it back tomorrow. I refused to do so because I did not feel comfortable with driving a broken vehicle that I paid to be repaired so I left the vehicle. Later he called to tell me they cleaned the Catalytic Converter. I continued to have issues that they never addressed. Now after all of 9 months my vehicle is broken with the same problems that Pepboys supposedly fixed. The work is warranted but after calling corporate to honor the warranty is even more upsetting than the fact that they did not properly repair my vehicle. Kenzie and David tried to charge me for services they didn't perform on my car. Kenzie initially called me to inform me about the inspections with a certain price, but when I went to pick up my car, the invoice was more than double the quoted amount. Unfortunately, Kenzie was not present at the time, and David, the manager, was unwilling to acknowledge my concerns. He insisted that I pay the full amount, even though the invoice did not accurately reflect what Kenzie had told me over the phone and included unmentioned services. While waiting for Kenzie, my fiancé, who is a mechanic, arrived to check on the situation. I explained the issue and showed him the invoice given by David, expressing that it didn't make sense to me. My fiancé then spoke with David, who reluctantly removed some charges for services that were unnecessary, as confirmed by my fiancé. David accepted this but with a bad attitude. I came in for an appointment at 10:00 am, it took almost 3 hours to mount 4 tires. I will allow grace as it was the day after Christmas. HOWEVER, it was one of the coldest days of the year, they had a locked thermostat set at 65 degrees blowing cold air. The inside of the store was dirty, no amenities , (hot coffee???) , no ceiling (just the frame work), floor was bare concrete and those that came in and asked, it has been like this for months. Apparently, Autozone bought Pepboys out and divided the building giving them this small unfinished area, the Autozone side was construction complete and comfortable as far as temperature went. In addition, the Manager tried to charge me more for the tires than the sales price. He made me show him the sale price on my own device even though it was printed and hanging on the front of the register before he would honor it!!! I will not go back to this store!!! read more

Three times I had taken it to another local Pep Boys to fix the alignment but it continued to pull right and the steering wheel rested in a right turning position. They quoted me once for a alternator replacement, oil change, air filter replacement, etc. and it was WAAAAYY under what anyone else was estimating. They did an excellent job in a reasonable amount of time (they were busy and I was there at the end of the day on a Friday!) They are a fair and honest business and won't rip you off. I asked what that meant and he said, it will be two hours before they can get to you and we close at 5. I said okay, so does that mean you can't service me because my tire won't keep air in it, I ve had to put air in it twice already today? Bill said no, if I make a ticket we will service you, I said okay do I have to wait two hours or can I come back, I will be shopping right across the street. Bill said thats fine and maybe he will finish the other cars early. I said okay, will you call me and he said, I can call you. By that time it was 2:50pm. I arrive at 5:50 and Bill meets me at the door and says are you here to pick up? I said you know I'm not here to pick up , you told me to come back! Bill said we close @ 5, the mechanic is gone and I can't do anything. I said , why did you write up a ticket and say to come back in two hours, least you could have done was call!. Purchased $1050 in tires from Pep Boys. Pep Boys could not get the TPMS (tire pressure monitor system) to reset. Pep Boys gave me back the vehicle saying the tire warning light would go off in a few miles and if not bring it back. The light did not go off so we returned to Pep Boys the next day. They did have an experienced tech there and got the TPMS reset. The next morning the wheel balancing weights were laying in my driveway. I returned to Pep Boys for the 3rd time only to be told they were busy and would need a few hours (basically get back in line). Pep Boys added that I didn't really need the weights it wasn't hazardous. For these reasons this store get 1 star and you might consider going somewhere other than Pep Boys. read more

When I went into the shop, a polite young lady named Kinsey was on the phone with a customer who either didn't understand or who just felt that if they kept asking the same questions, they would get the answer they wanted to hear. By this time, 4 other customes had come in, and again Kinsey used her GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS that she had learned to try to appease the customer on the phone by explaining that the services they wanted wasn't going to happen right away and they they would need an appointment. As I stood there listening to the back and forth conversation, which mind you went for at least 10 min, I could tell that Kinsey was getting a little frustrated because she had to repeat herself to the customer. I feel so stupid. Why did I come back to pep boys for the 2nd time. I can't believe this. This is now my 2nd time ever coming to pep boys. A few weeks ago I went to a different location in miami. I just happen to travel a lot for work. I figured let me try again since I'm now in Bradenton. I make an appointment. The appointment was confirmed via email and text. But than upon arrival, I tell the man I made an appointment today for 6pm. Sadly I'm now writing this post at 6:04 pm right in front of pep boys in the parking lot. The representative tells me that there is no certified mechanic that can fix my vehicle today. All I was offered was a diagnostic for $20. So you have no mechanic here to fix my car. The place closes at 8pm. You allow me to schedule an appointment for 6pm. And you have the audacity to offer me a diagnostic for $20. You would think that they would try to reschedule me to come in for another day this week but all that was offered was a diagnostic. I'm shocked that a business like this is still running. I felt like I should've stopped at some local location called pop boys but since I already made my appointment here, I came here instead. Just to be disappointed. This makes no sense. I'm definitely not coming back for a 3rd time. I would have to be real stupid to give them another chance. This is terrible. I really hope this business shuts down. I was so upset, I walked out. I didn't even bother getting none of their names or even bothered asking to speak to a supervisor. And they tell me they tried calling me. And yeah I saw the voicemail after they mentioned it. I wish I saw the call. So the voicemail says that the mechanics only work until 4:30 pm so why allow me to schedule an appointment at 6pm. It makes no sense. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AT THIS PLACE. Here is my first and last experience with pep boys. I will say first that mostly I am my own mechanic, so I am not ignorant to car repairs. Also I am a former farmer so I have worked on several types of vehicles and machinery. Now on to my experience with pep boys. We were vacationing in Florida when our 2003 Pt Cruiser overheated at the Bradenton Florida exit. Found the car had blown coolant out and as we had coolant with us, I got the car cooled down while we looked for a repair shop open as it was Sunday November 1, 2020. Found a pep boys close and limped the car there. After checking the car the technician told us the head gasket was blown, which I did suspect as I could smell antifreeze from the exhaust. Was told the repair could be done by Friday the 6th and it would take app. 9 hours labor. We told them we had to leave for Illinois by Thursday and they said they could have it done by then. We waited until Tuesday morning to call and ask how it was going. They told us they would have it done by Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. We called Thursday and they told us it would be done at noon or a little after. We arrived at the shop about noon and here is where it all goes wrong. We sat and waited and nobody came to tell us anything. We had to keep hunting up the technician and were told 3 times that they were just putting on the "finishing touches" . Well the "finishing touches" took till 8:30 pm and they came and told us that the air conditioning would not recharge and they couldn't find the leak. The air conditioning was working perfectly when we dropped the car off, so they messed that up. I asked if the head gasket repair was done and they said yes. I told them they messed up the air conditioning and they ended up taking 300 off the bill as I told them I would fix it myself. We were upset with them by this time as the car was not done when they said, they messed up the air conditioning, and they ignored us in the shop, They did not keep us informed or seem to care that we we waiting that long. We paid the 1718.09 bill and left for Illinois. We got home and two days later my wife said there was a puddle under the car and found it was coolant. I smelled it coming from the exhaust again and the only way it gets into the exhaust is through a leaking head gasket or intake manifold gasket both of which would have been replaced in head gasket repair. Pep boys repair failed with only 1200 miles on the repair while I still owned the car at the time. Pep boys will only do warranty work at one of their locations and the nearest to me is 240 miles away in Chicago. Three reasons not doing this; Car not safe to drive to Chicago with leaking coolant, it would cost me to get it there and not going into the Covid Capitol of Illinois to get yet another pep boys "repair". My local certified Chrysler auto dealer/ repair shop confirmed the head gasket was leaking. Upon contacting the store and e.mailing the findings we waited for a response. We called and they couldn't find our e.mail and 4 hours later told us they found it in the spam folder. Nice. Customer e.mails going to Spam folder. We were told by the manager that no refund would happen and they would like to help us but as I see it the only thing they helped with is to our money with a improper faulty repair. Contacted the Customer relations twice with this and they said it would be referred to the Area Director who we gave 6 days to respond and never heard anything. Beware ** Pep boys used to be good but something happened. My wife went to have her window fixed and check out the dash lights that came on yesterday. She works next right there and can drop it off in the morning. We had already had a price from last month when we were originally going to do it but she didn't cuz she thought the price was high then but I told her to just go ahead and get it done. So she got a text saying it was going to be over $610.57 just to get the window fixed. Needless to say she went in and questioned the whole thing and they told her that the price has gone up from over a month ago when they we're trying to charge $160 just to pull the window up and put it on the track after before the work was done they told her $60. She came home and told me so I called. Spoke to Bill first where I asked them what their hourly rate was and was told $170. Then I asked how long it takes to fix a window on a minivan what he said depends. I said on average how long and he put me on hold and that is when the manager Chris took over. He told me that I was wrong and that they never said the price is $600 and I told him that I have a text. I read him back the text which I have attached I told him I was going to call corporate he said call whoever you want. Don't give him your business. what turned out to be a very long and exhausting week the guys at pep boy turned around I brought in my Honda accord, for repairs and They did not have the part so that meant they had to order it. which meant i had to wait a while for my car to be fixed. My sister brought her Hyundai vehicle in for the FREE AC Check. I told her to request prior approval of any work BEFORE any work is done. After waiting for four (4) hours she was told the vehicle needed an AC Variable Valve available only through the dealership. Further, she had to visit the Service Desk multiple times to get any status updates for the AC system but was never asked to authorize any additional services. The receipt clearly shows FREE AC Check and an unauthorized AC Leak Evaluation for $62.89. The Work Order shows the FREE AC Check but fails to show an AC Leak Evaluation. My sister ended up taking the vehicle to the local Hyundai dealership who completed a Compressor Replacement. Service Manager Roberto Torres refunded the money for the AC Leak Evaluation without issue. read more

As an owner of a Toyota Prius with a dead 12v battery, I've discovered that replacing that battery can be a nightmare experience. The batteries are often rather expensive and "difficult" to install. I shopped around. Tires Plus $300 and had to wait until Monday, (today is Saturday). Walmart doesn't even carry a replacement battery for a Prius. AutoZone and Advance all pretty much in the $250 range. And they do not install them. Great... As a last resort I tried Pep Boys and whoa and behold they had the usual yellow top battery and also offered a Bosch battery that would fit. The Bosch was $189. AND Bosch had an additional 25% off offer with free installation and a 3 year road service offer. I went there and the battery was in stock and they honestly cheerfully installed it -although the young man did say it was usually a pain, but said it in a nice way. It all went well and quickly and I am very very pleased as so far, as the Prius seems to run fine now with the new battery. Well done!i read more

I've used Pep Boys in the past with mixed reviews. This is a review of my last experience at the Bradenton location on Cortez Rd. I went in and got 4 new tires (ordered them online first) and an oil change. Scheduled the appointment, arrived on time and they took my car back for service. I had my iPad because I knew it would take a bit to change out the tires, do the balance and alignment and oil change. Once the quoted time hit I started to get a bit fidgety so I took a look out the bay window. My car was still on the rack so I sat back down and played a few more games. 30 more minutes pass and my car was down but they were still working on it. After another half hour I made an inquiry and they told me it was almost done. It took about 75 minutes more than I had planned but the overall service was good. The tires I ordered looked great on my car and everything else was as expected. I'd use this location again but I wouldn't go out of my way just to go here. I was disappointed that they did not offer inert gas for tire inflation (they said the machine was too expensive) so I ended up going to my dealership to have that done at an extra cost. Folks at the desk were nice. Offered me coffee and they have a TV in the small waiting area. Nothing fancy but it worked. I am happy with what I got for the price that I paid. read more

Went in the day after talking to the guys at Advance Auto Parts who said I needed a new alternator, after my car was having difficulty starting. Came in, Kenny got me a pretty decent price for the alternator and install (quoted $310 OTD) so I came in for the service. Shawn the mechanic brought it into the bay, and told me it would need a new battery before they could check if it was in fact the alternator that needed replacing. Turns out my battery had a dead cell, so they sent me back over to AAP for a battery (because the one I had was their brand) instead of trying to get me to buy one of their's, even though I didn't know I had a warranty on the battery. So I went to AAP and bought a brand new battery off them and went back to Pep Boys for the alternator check. I did need a new alternator. Kerry, the service manager, talked with me throughout the time I spent there (4 hours) and sympathized with me, and cut me a deal on the service. Everyone there was very friendly and helped this painful and unexpected process go much more smoothly. They also changed out my bald and cracked tire for my ok spare for me, and filled my tires for me. I will be coming back. read more
