needed to get two bolts removed so i could install a sway bar reinforcement bracket. I wasn't able to Get the bolts off with my impact wrench and broke our 17mm socket wrench because it was frozen rusted. pepboys told us to come back next morning because they were clearly busy with the four techs standing around chatting and not doing anything. it takes no more than 10 mins to install. they called us back as we were getting back into our car to leave and offered to do it for us really quick. 10 mins later and short 30 bucks we were on our way. thank you pepboys for your help and get rid of your lazy grease monkeys read more

I went in to get an inspection sticker on my new windshield. All they had to do is fill out standard paperwork and put the sticker on I had an appointment, so they knew I was coming. The counter guy said 20 minutes It took them over an hour!!! WTF I'm still sitting here waiting!!! If I could give less than 1 star, I would. Then they charged me $2.02 for shop supplies! They said it was for towels. No apology, they said that if I had a problem I would have to talk to the mechanic, like he could give a shit. Don't go here!! read more

I've been to this location many times when I lived in the area and although it is a chain and not exactly sexy, it does the job on many occasions. If you need an oil change, this place is ok, if you need a state inspection this place does it. The key is getting there when they are not busy or else you will wait. I purchased 4 Copper tires from this Pep Boys a little over 2 yrs ago. I recently had a blow out which sent me into the curb. This damaged both tires on the passenger side. I came back to Pep Boys today and they were fantastic! They replaced both tires and even refunded me for the tread left on the blown out tires. Would've given 2 stars for the service (4 hours wait for new stickers), but I am giving 3 stars because of the kind service desk employee that waited on us. We were in Pep Boys to get our state inspection stickers reinstated. We had an appointment at 12, but was told that they were backed up and it would be until 2 PM until our car can be seen. We were told originally it would take 1-1.5 hours so we said okay, and waited in the waiting area. At 2, I went up to the young man at the desk to ask about the status of our car and he ran into the service deck to ask the technicians if they had gotten to our car yet. The man came back and said that the technicians were still working on a previous car which had a lot of emissions problems. By 3, I had become very annoyed and angsty. I was a bit rude to the young man this time, but he took it well and spoke to the technicians again. Finally! After another 45 mins, he came back and told me that they are finally able to get someone free to rewrite the stickers. Feeling terrible, I apologized of my earlier behavior and he was kind enough to understand. All in all, 4 hours to get new stickers is ridiculous. If Pep Boys didn't have such well mannered service desk employees I would rated much lower. read more

I would not recommend using this place at all! Went in today for an oil change, tire rotation and check the brakes but came out with only an oil change. Apparently, there is a special wheel lock key that is needed to remove the tires. It should have been in the glove box but was no where to be found. Ironically, this location was the last place I took my car to have them install 4 new tires back in December 2020. So they either lost it or never put it back. Now I have to order 4 new lug nuts and a key which they WILL reimburse me for. Get in my car to leave and found that whoever was in there doing the work, broke my phone holder that was attached to my air vent! they didn't even have to guts to tell me. They just put it in the cup holder and left the broken piece attached to the air vent. The manager was horrible! He never even acknowledged me or apologized for anything! This review is for those who do their own maintenance on their vehicles. I have no experience with the service department. As a do-it-yourself kind of guy I like to do all the maintenance on my own vehicles. When I need to buy parts I frequently find myself at this Pep Boys. While they usually have whatever part I'm looking for, I would advise caution when getting parts from behind the counter. On too many occasions I've opened the box to find the wrong size parts. This usually causes the person behind the counter confusion only to then realize that some cars have different size parts depending on the model. I find this to be most often the case when I am buying brakes, rotors, or brake shoes. Also, their prices are not always the best. Many times Autozone or Napa will have the same parts at a cheaper price. Sometimes Autozone or Napa will have a brand name on sale cheaper than the Pep Boys store brand. So shop around before you buy! read more

I had TireRack send my new winter tires here because it's so close to home. When I called, they couldn't tell me that my tires had come in, but said they had my tire "in stock." I made an appointment for 1:00 p.m. - the CSR didn't tell me that they don't go by appointments, but first come, first serve. My husband got there at 1:00 p.m. and didn't get out until 4:00 p.m. The next day, one of the tires was flat. He went back to wait another two hours to get it fixed - it was due to shoddy installation. We drove up to Vermont and a couple of days later, the tire sensor light went on. Took of the valve caps and one of them was just shooting air out. Fortunately, the tire place in VT tightened it for us and we were on our way. What's worse than the wait (which we could have avoided if they told us how they work) is the awful workmanship. Never again. read more

I came asking for tires and the guy at the desk had such a terrible attitude. I asked for winter tires and with an attitude he said there's only all season tires. And he asked what size and I had no idea so I asked if he could look it up if I gave him the car type and model and he said to give you the exact price he was like I need the exact tire size. There were two guys hanging around the parts desk with a guy sitting on a ladder, he said it would be at least 2 hours for an oil change so I decided to leave and get it done somewhere else. Also, the coupon they mailed to me was photocopied and taped to their counter, so I assumed it wasn't a special deal and the shop fees, filter/oil cost, and other misc fees made the price the same as all the other oil change places, probably around $40 after tax. read more

well I just got my car back, $350 dollars later, I took it in, because my car was over heating, antifreeze spitting out the overflow, battery light came on, power steering went out, and the belt broke, long story short .. it turns out, they fixed the belt but here I am driving to work the next day and got 3/4 of the way there and everything I put it in the shop for, happened... yet again. I call them and there answer is, bring it back in. Which would be fine if I didn't have to work. Nothing like spending that much money just to have everything happen again and have someone act like you have all the time and money in the world to keep bringing your car back to them. I am like most people without my car I have an extremely difficult time getting to and from work. I would strongly recommend that people go somewhere else, put your money towards a business that actually cares to do the job right the first time, time and money is too valuable to waste. I was having a really bad day. I tried to add oil in the Parking Lot of the Broomall Pep Boys store. It was raining hard and the oil cap slipped and fell into the engine. After trying to find it and getting my hands greasy, my phone also fell into the engine (it was a long morning). I purchased wiper blades for 2 cars about a week ago at this location. When I opened packages to install, I discovered one blade was missing the plastic piece that locks onto the wiper arm. I called Pepboys on Saturday and was told to return it. When I told them it was a 35 minute drive each direction and not worth my time to return the defective item they sold me, I was told there was nothing they could or would do about it. So, I asked to speak with the manager. I was told he would call on Monday when he returned to work. I got a message the manager (Harris) called late Monday afternoon and left a message that he would only be there for another 10 minutes. (Why did the manager wait until the very end of the day to return my call?) I returned the call and spoke with Harris, the manager. He told me the same thing, he had no way of sending me the missing part and could not and would not replace the wiper blade unless I returned it or mailed it back to him. He then, essentially called me a liar by saying he did not know the part was even missing unless I returned the part for him to see. It was not worth my time to spend over an hour driving round trip to return the $20 part. Be careful and inspect everything you purchase before leaving the store. Had a free upgrade to High Mileage for a "29 minute oil change" so I thought I'd give it a try. The 29 minutes begins only after the car is being worked on. It took over an hour, but changing your own oil is a real pain in the ass and there aren't any real savings when buying your own materials. So I guess that is good. Avoid this Pepboys location if you can. First, they do not accept appointments so you face being stuck there for hours. Even if they provide an estimate for how long it may take, don't believe it. I've previously had success with car repairs and maintenance at other Pepboys locations, but this one was terrible. I sat there for an hour and they hadn't even touched my car despite the fact that there were at least 4 mechanics on duty (but I never saw any with a tool in hand). When I finally asked for my keys back so I could leave, it took the attendant about 5 minutes just to find my key! It is completely disorganized, the employees are lazy, and in short, I recommend going just about anywhere else before the Pepboys in Broomall. Fresh worst experience repairing a car. Called them before hand Saturday night if they could take care of my truck on Sunday. Need a brake line replaced . Now Sunday 4 pm I received a call from the store with an estimate of 1400$ to replace the whole brake system and that required 6 hours labor, and would take another day. I couldn't do that I just need a brake line. They said they don't just do that, and I had no choice but to leave. I had to tow my truck twice. They stole 20 $ bill out of my truck. They waisted my time and money towing twice, and tried to rip me off instead of just repairing what was broken. I will never go to pep boys in my life and never recommend anyone to go there. I only go to Pepboys for my auto servicing. I used to go to the one in Havertown because it was closer to my house but this year I started going to the Broomall one because it was closer to work and more convenient to leave my car while at work for repairs and maintenance. Well, I've needed a lot of work lately on the car (lots of flats, etc.) and I have nothing but praise for all of the staff at this store, especially Aaron in Service. He has been so helpful and easy to work with. He told me the car would be done "around 11:30 - 12ish" and my phone was ringing at 11:30 on the dot to tell me it was done! Excellent service. Also, they're always upfront about the price, never any surprises or hidden fees. I highly recommend this store to any and everyone, and when you go in - ask for Aaron! read more

Called on a Wednesday to schedule an appt. They asked if I would be waiting for the car, I said yes. They said it would be best to schedule on Friday as I would not have to wait as long. I came 15 min before my 9am appt. and 2 hours later they still have not gotten to the car. They estimate another 30 min to get to it and about an hour for the PA state inspection. My Daughter brought her vehicle in for an inspection and oil change. The Technicians told her that her oil cap was permanently on and if they removed it, it may cause an awful lot of damage! She had her two babies with her, waited 2 hrs, and they told her that her oil tank was bad. Boy some of the other reviews are really bad - I did not experience anything bad. In fact I had excellent service! My truck needed a front end alignment. With no appointments dropped off the truck and it was ready in just over an hour. Service desk personal are knowledgable professional friendly, no issues. Truck alignment is great, price was competive, so I don't understand why the others received bad service. I am a satisfied customer and would use them again. I received great customer service from the manager and the master mechanic, Ruben. I went in there because I needed to replace my original tuner and a speaker and didn't want to spend a ton of money. Ruben took the time to advise me on which ones would be best to suit my needs and did not try to steer me toward Pep Boys' most expensive ones. I would have given the experience 5 stars except that there were a few scheduling snafus in which I was scheduled to have Ruben do the installation but he was not in on those days so it took a few trips to the store on Saturday mornings before the work could be done. Horrible Staff, Terrible Customer Service, Unprofessional Staff. I called before leaving home to find out the wait time for a same day, last-minute oil change and told them I was on my way. When I pulled up, there were no signs or directives or where to leave your car. An older (white, dark haired) asked, "Oil change?" and motioned for me to move my car. I pulled behind the car that had just pulled up, completely unsure of what to do since she hadn't said anything. She chuckled maliciously, rolled her eyes, and scoffed, "Come here. To where I'm standing." I go, "Well, now you say it. How was I supposed to know? I normally go to my service dealer. I'm new to Pep Boys." She went, "Because I'm standing right here." She then turned away as I pulled in, and began yelling accusingly toward the mechanics in the auto room about me, "She's saying she didn't know where to pull her car in." Which was totally rude and she walked inside the garage. I pulled in and got out of the car. A young black guy got out, shaking his head and said to me, "Attitude. What are you getting, an oil change?" I was taken aback. I told him, "Attitude? Excuse me? You don't even know what happened. But I like how you're taking up for her." I confirmed that I needed an oil change. He said, "She's my coworker." I told him, "You don't even know what happened." He went, "She's an older woman." (It was so canned---I bet this nasty woman has confrontations with customers daily. Is that an excuse for poor decorum? Yes, she is an older woman---one with a catty, nasty and unprofessional demeanor). Being old does not excuse her behavior nor does it entitle her to undeserved respect. I did not disrespect this woman and I expect to be treated like respect! I am not one of these customers who treats employees like they are my servant. But I do expect professionalism from them! First, that woman went and accused me of being rude simply because I calmly asked her to give clear, explicit directives and communicate? I was so befuddled by the whole encounter I told him, "You're unprofessional for coming up to me and accusing me of having an attitude. You know what, nevermind. I am not interested in your services. What is your name?" He walked away from me. I was going to go into the service office to find out the names of everyone involved so I could report them to corporate. To avoid confrontation, I left. I was extremely disappointed in this entire encounter and will never visit Pep Boys again. I usually visit my service dealer but was only going to try Pep Boys out since my Honda dealer was busy. I am disappointed because I left home (an 8 mile drive) and wasted my time. Early this month I had taken my car into the shop to replace my front tires. It was very late and near closing time. I explained that I was heading to the beach in the morning and was worried if my worned tires were safe to drive long distant. The mechanic who i originally spoke to went to explained to the service manager and had decided to allow me to purchase the proper tires 5 mins before closing. Not only i was able to purchase the new tires, the service crew had them installed properly and rotate them as well. The excellent service doesn't stop there, as I was waiting in the waiting room, one of the cashier personnel came over to see if I was ok and asked if I would like some bottled water, which I thought was pretty nice. I initially had a oil change appointment for Sat 2/4. The customer service rep, Ernest went over and above. He explained everything and also I needed a new tire. I returned on Sun 2/5 and had the tire installed. My appointment time was prompt and my vehicle was ready when promised. I will def return for service in the future. Long story short: the employees here are both rude and incompetent and the service is overpriced. I had my CEL come on recently and stopped by just to have it read. First I was told that no one was available who could do that. I was a bit skeptical, because plugging in an ODBII reader isn't really advanced, so I asked the service desk rep if he might be qualified to do it, and he said he was and had me pull up to the bay and wait. While I was there, another employee came to read the code. Luckily I took a note of it, because this employee asked if I wanted it cleared. I said I wanted to see what the second code was first, because the reader indicated there were two codes. The employee cleared them anyway. At about this time, the first employee I talked to came out and starting yelling at the second one because apparently he was not qualified to read engine codes and had decided to do it anyway. After all this, I tried to start my car. The battery was completely dead. I told the first employee, and he started complaining about how he "didn't need this right now." (I didn't either, to be honest, but I didn't say anything, figuring it was better to let him blow off steam.) He attempted to jump my battery, and eventually did so. He then told me my battery needed to be replaced soon. Trying to see if the ODBII reading might have discharged the battery, especially since the first employee seemed to think the second one had done it wrong, I pointed out that the battery had had no issues for as long as I had had the car. Before I could ask if it might be related, the employee got very angry and acted like I had personally accused him of something. He started saying he jumped my battery for me and that I needed to give him a break, and asking if I was serious. Taken aback, I asked him to please put the battery cover back on my car. He did so, and I drove away. This is pretty much the last straw for me. The code was a thermostat issue, and I'll either replace the thermostat myself or have anyone else in the area do it. In addition to this experience, I've gotten estimates for other things here before and they're pretty high. Add on the fact that the service isn't very good and there are several places within a mile of this shop that are professional (and won't discharge your battery trying to do something as simple as an ODBII check and then claim your battery is bad), I wouldn't bother getting anything done here. These guys don't know cars, and they're pretty rude. You're not starved for choice of mechanics in this area, so you can do a lot better. read more

One star, No, I don't want to give them that much credit. I dropped my car off at 8:00am for tires and state inspection. They called me at noon to tell me they just realized they don't have my tire size in stock. They asked if I would be willing to wait until their truck came at 2pm. I didn't need my car until 4 pm so I said I would wait. I asked and was reassured it would be done by 4 pm. He actually told me it should be done by 3 pm. At 4 pm, the "manager" tells me the tires should be here around 5 pm (or so, depending on traffic). It's 5:15 and I Have now my child's party. I am still waiting. I wonder if any of their many competitors would make me miss my child's party? I guess I'll find out the next time that I need service. read more

I purchased 4 Cooper CS4 (Ultra High Performance P225/65R17) from Pep Boys on 8/29/14 for a total of $604.19 with 80,000 mile prorated (the total package that included tire mounting, tire handling charge, wheel balance passenger 16-19 & truck, road hazard warranty and TPMS service kit for Toyota/Lexus costed me $176.24). After a little more than a year, one of the tires started to lose air dramatically fast so I brought my car to Pep Boys for them to check it out 2 times and they weren't able to fix the issue so they replaced the tire the third time on 11/19/2016. Now the rest of the other 3 tires started to lose air just like the one that they replaced so I brought it to Pep Boys (2916 Springfield Road, Broomall, PA 19008) on 12/17/2017 for them to check on the tires and they weren't able to find anything wrong with the tires either. I had to inflate these tires almost every 4 days and it's not acceptable. Before not on the very cold days when I inflated all the tires to 33 PSI the pressure would drop to 19 PSI in 3 days. I just inflated all the tires yesterday (12/28/2017) to 34 PSI and this morning (12/29/2017) the low tire pressure indicator came up on the instrument panel already. I just took my car out to get some gas and I also tried to put some air on the tires. I noticed when I checked on the tires pressure and both of the tires in the front have already gone down to 22 PSI. So the tires lost 12 PSI in one day. Is this acceptable?. I talked to the manager ( Mark Stein) of the Pep Boys store and he told me about tire losing 2 PSI for every 10 degree difference or something like that but this is not acceptable for my case. I have the other car that I didn't have to put any air for its tires for the whole year and its tires currently don't seem to need any air. The technicians at the Pep Boys where I went to are not very helpful in coming up with some solutions to this problem. If it's not for the 80,000 mile prorated, I would definitely go out and purchase 3 new tires. I don't have time and I can't afford to inflate my car tires every days ( in these extremely cold days, yes, the tires need to be inflated every day). I scheduled with Mark Stein to drop off my car on 1/5/2018 for 2 days so they can see for themselves but I don't know if I can keep the appointment. I can't afford to be without my car for 2 days. True to their word it was only 35 minutes which was enough time to grab a salad at Giant and eat it in the waiting room. They offered me water from the fridge and overall I was very pleased. Excellent Tire Service - Mr. Waheed Bey was great. He found part number, checked stock for the actual tire, and set up my first thing in the morning appointment. The service department got me in, tire replaced, advised about a stabilizer link, invoice paid and I was barely late for work on a frosty November Monday morning. I can't speak for walk-in service but the appointment tire service was outstanding. And Merilyn is everything other reviewers say she is: pleasant, helpful, and efficient with the customers. This place don't even deserve a one star rating. Dropped off my car to get all 4 tires replace. No one to greet you until you look at them. Then someone ask if they can help me. Look me up on the computer and took my keys and told me will be about 2 hours. My wife picked up the car later on and every seems fine. She said that road side assistance was included and was delighted to hear that. However, a few days later one of the tires started to leak and we took it back to them. They say that we had to buy a new tire and wasn't covered because we didn't get hazard insurance. No one offered the insurance to us. They say it's because we ordered on the web and they only do whatever is on the web and I think that is bs. We have to book on the web to get that time slot, it's not like we can just bring it in. However, upon checkout you should have offered to us. Sometimes people forget to click on it or didn't think about it. Everywhere you go they would always ask you just to make sure. So if that's their lame excuse they they can just go F@#$ themselves. The manager was an a$$ on top of it. I will not shop there again. Their 2.5 star rating is too good for them. read more
