This is our local, frequented Pep Boys location and we normally have a friendly, pleasant experience. Today, however, we had a horrible experience with the attendant Adrian and we plan on never coming back. My husband dropped his car off for a routine oil change. A few hours later we get a call from Adrian informing us about found tire damage. These tires are only a few weeks old, purchased from a different shop. We politely thanked Adrian for the heads up, but informed him we would be taking the problem up with the other shop to see what kind of warranty our tires were under. This is when Adrian became rude and aggressive. He started going off on my husband on the phone and insisting we have to replace the tire before we can pick up the car. When we declined again to double check with our warranty he said, "In this country, that's not how tire warranties work." Excuse me? Wow. We are citizens of this country and we have every right to double check our warranty first. In the middle of my husband asking the question "Do you know when our car will be ready to be picked up?" Adrian hung up the phone on him. When we came to pick up the car Adrian began harassing us again, pulling up our carfax history saying we were lying about when we got new tires because he didn't see any evidence of the tire replacement listed. We told him all we wanted to do was pay for the oil change and leave. What a rude, humiliating experience. Want to know the best part? We went to Big Brand Tire afterwards and they checked all of the tires for us and told us they were all in brand new condition. There was no tire replacement necessary. I had a very nice experience at the Pep Boys today when I had my tires replaced. Cindy was wonderful and the price was way less than what I was quoted at others, only $18 per tire plus a $12 fee to bring my own tires. It did take a while, but I had no problem waiting as I had other things to do in the area. So far, no problems, so a great experience overall! read more

UPDATE #3. *I forgot to mention in my last review that they suggested oil change, which I got, even know my oil change miles were 2K away from my next needed oil change. They said that what was needed to get done to turn off my dashboard light, although I was hesitant due to not needing one for quite awhile ahead. Again, I don't know if this was an upselling technique... 6 days later, I just received a call from them asking about coming in for the $200+ service I denied. VERY random and I've never had a business call me out of the blue after denying a service. I denied it for a reason. Please don't call me. I went here and had my Battery and Alternator fixed and a year later, the alternator they replaced it with no longer works. Now I have to pay $200 for labor for an alternator they recommended and placed in my car. According to them I should have bought an insurance for the labor so I would have not paid the $200 for today's service. This place is awful. I brought in my car as it had a flat tire and for some reason the tire pressure monitoring system didn't catch it. They told me and my husband (separately) they could fix the tire pressure monitoring system. I repeatedly told them to do it to make sure they wouldn't forget, and they said they would do it after the flat tire was replaced. Well, after the flat tire was replaced and they wanted their money, they said they couldn't fix the tire pressure monitoring system. Thanks. And weeks later, my tire pressure monitoring system did light up and turns out the one tire they replaced was full of air but the others were all low. They didn't even bother checking my other tires. They just filled the replaced tire to the PSI noted in the car, knowing it could be unbalanced and unsafe. I also like the service of the technician in the back, I think his name started with an H not sure. He's a younger guy with brown curly hair. Very friendly and showed me what my rotors looked like so I could see why they needed to be replaced. Exceptional. I'm not happy with the Pep Boys in Costa Mesa that put in my brake pads and rotors and they only lasted a little over 18K miles. I have never encountered as rude customer service as I did at this establishment. Just came to get my tire patched at was greeted with extreme disrespect and condescending tone towards both myself and my husband. I would recommend finding somewhere else for your vehicle needs especially if you see the rude bald man at the desk. I believe his name is Adrian. Completely rude from the time we walked in when asked what tire it is we said we think the back right and this man proceeded to laugh and say 'you think' . when we entered he told us immediately that 90% of times a tire cannot be patched which we know is factually incorrect. After looking at the tire he said the tire cannot be patched and unable to hold any air. We told him to fill it up for us please and then he developed even more of an attitude and my husband asked how much a tire costs to which he responded 'I've already updated your file I'm not giving you a tire your car is up front' although the tire was not able to hold air as per Adrian , somehow miraculously we were able to make it home and today I took my car to a different shop (had lost no air in that time frame) and they were able to patch the tire for free. This guy clearly only wanted to sell a tire and had no interest in providing honest respectable service to a customer. read more

Avoid this place. Made an appointment to check engine light, oil change and tire rotation. Talked about what I needed, includiing engine light (clerk said probably go off after oil change). Told it would be 60-90 minutes. Sounds good, right? Two hours, 15 minutes later, they wanted to sell me an over priced battery. No way. Vehicle ready? Nope. Walked around building 15 minutes later, there it is, sitting outside ready to go. Go to front desk. 5 more minutes. Finally, checked out. Go to jeep, there is no oil change sticker (which we all rely on as a reminder). Crank. And there it is --- engine light. Go back into store, and tell them. Oh, sir, that's an extra $100 to diagnose. But it was in the appointment and I spoke with clerk. Their response? Make an appointment to come back. No frigging way would I ever come back to this place. Wasted my entire afternoon getting what should have been a 30 minute oil change (this shop was not busy at all). Now, I have to find another shop for the light. I scheduled an appointment online for brake service for my Uber Hertz rental on 04/05/2025 at 7:00a.m. in the morning, here at Pep Boys Culver City, California. Next I contacted Uber to open up a ticket for service for this Pep boys. They granted me a voucher and told me that I could go to that Pep Boys to get service done. I then called this location to confirm my online appointment. The operator who answered the phone told me that he sees the appointment on his end and that I am all set for 4:00 that day. I also told him that this was a Uber Hertz fleet vehicle and that I have a ticket open at this location. He immediately told me to bring vehicle in now so that they can do the inspection so they can get approval to do the service. He also said because today is Saturday he believes that they close early today. So due to your appointment schedule of 4:00, know one might not be in office around that time. He also said just bring it in now so we get the inspection done and submit the approval and once it clears you can just come back at your schedule appointment time. I said ok that works for me. So I get there by 11:20 and waited for two hours for the inspection. Mean while 2 customers who came well after me had left already. So one of the attendants told me that it has been approved and was waiting on a few parts to come. At this moment the time was around 1:37. Around two o'clock a gentleman came in with two Box of rotors and one pair of pads. He set them on the counter and gave one of the attendant the paper work and left. So five minutes go by and I asked the attendant by the name of George is that the parts you're waiting on? He replies, no. There for another vehicle. 15 minutes go by and one of the technicians comes from break. George gives the tech a work order and picks up the parts and takes them into the garage. So I knew that those were the parts for my vehicle. So I get up and walk outside and go over to the window where you can see inside of the garage. I see George walking over to my vehicle with the parts he picked up off the counter, and sat them down by my vehicle. I knew he lied to me. Now it's 2:52 an the car is still not ready. I don't know why I decided to come to this location. Last time I came here for my personal vehicle, I received bad service and vowed never to come to this location again. I left a negative review then. I truly learn my lesson this time. Never will have any type of service here. And will not recommend people to have service done at Pep Boys. I walked around the corner, got food and came back at 3:15 to see my car parked in the same exact spot in the lot where it was before I left. I asked Joseph how long it would be, he said they were still working on it. When the truth was, they hadn't even started. At 4:45pm I was told I needed four new tires. I paid for the service. It was only me and another customer in the store at the time and about 5 workers. I asked how long my car would take at 6:15. They told me 20 more minutes. They didn't finish an oil change and 4 new tires until 20 minutes before they closed. 2:00pm-6:37pm is ridiculous. If you have all day to waste, this is the perfect location to come to. I hate that we can't give negative stars in order to leave reviews because this "place of business" has marked one of the worst experiences thus far. They make comments about not getting enough business but then wonder why? That's kind of a joke. I prefer to think that Pep Boys as a corporation would like to continue a long standing relationship with their customers. The integrity that keeps a company standing isn't set in stone and should be actively worked on every day. I would really urge pep boys to find a real and actual solution for their employees who are burdened with such heinous attitudes. As soon as we walked in to figure out why our car was in worse condition than before it left their care, we were met with a disgusting attitude that shifted blame in the most condescending way. I don't care to leave reviews because I don't usually have such a dreadful experience as this. This needs to be known to the general public that you deserve to be treated better as a paying customer. They told us we were wrong for not bringing a receipt that they found in the matter of 10 seconds..... don't get me wrong, I'm not stupid, I know to bring a receipt, but I merely came to discuss and get clarification. In return, we were made to feel stupid and incompetent when the only incompetent people were these two handling conflict that they created. Pep boys, do better, these people are running your business to the ground because I don't see how any one with a bad experience would care to come back. EPIC FAIL! I brought my car in for an oil change with an appointment today at 3:30. When I checked in the lady looked up my car and told me they did not have the oil filter in stock. I suggested I bring it back tomorrow but she said they can get the part in an hour and I'll be done by 5:00. I come back at 5:00. Car is not ready. I check at 5:30. Not ready. I check at 6:00. Not ready. Finally at 6:25 they inform me that they have a new guy working on my car and he accidentally emptied the TRANSMISSION FLUID out instead of the OIL!! This place is dishonest and takes advantage of women. My wife's Prius broke down due to a hybrid battery problem. She had it towed to this store and they quoted her $8000 to replace the hybrid battery which I thought was ridiculous. A simple web search finds those batteries for thousands of dollars cheaper. Thankfully I got a second opinion and had it towed to a shop that fixed the problem for $900. Apparently it was just a fuse but these guys didn't check that and we almost junked a perfectly good car. They also replaced the regular battery and charged us $500 for a no name battery. For reference you can get a battery at Costco for $150. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE FOR REPAIR. read more

SCAM - LYING - CHEATING BUSINESS DO NOT GET ALL YOUR TIRES REPLACED!!! Had a low tire and made an appointment at Pep Boys and hoping for a patch. Came to tell me I needed all new tires replaced immediately since they were so worn. This was a blatant lie as my tire did not need to be replaced and later I had two separate professionals confirm this was not true. Before Covid 2020 I had 4 new Perelli 90k tires out on and my car has been in a garage and since I've been working remotely I've seen easily less than 6k in miles. When I told the technician, not the sales person this and he repeated it was unsafe for me on the road. I took my car to my local, trusted repair guy who said all my tires were in great shape. He also fixed my tire for less than $10. Took car in to a brake shop a few months later and they said my tires were good and had a lot of miles left. I've been so pissed because I had two other coworkers tell me they went to this same shop and they were so glad the technician warned them their tires were unsafe. Came in for the appointment, but still had to wait 90min before I was told it would take another 45+ minutes. I had plans already and could not wait over 2 hours.
