I went to PepBoys last week for an oil change and new battery. The store called claiming I needed new rotors and brake pads, with a total estimate of around $800. I asked how serious it was, and the guy on the phone said that it might not even pass inspection, depending on who was looking at it, implying that it was a safety hazard. I decided not to get it fixed, and instead brought it to another place the next day. Turns out the rotors did not need to be replaced, they said they looked carefully and drove the car around to make sure, and couldn't even find anything wrong. When I shared my story with someone else, she said Pep Boys told her the exact same thing a few months ago, and when she had another place check it out, her rotors were fine as well. I'll let you draw your own conclusions, however, I have no plans of ever going back to this store. read more

So both of my headlights and one high beam had coincidentally burned out one after the other so I was kind of living on the edge driving around with just one high beam. I bought replacements but it was dark out and I was headed out to dinner with friends. Phil in the parts department was kind enough to replace all three. He knew what he was doing and didn't seem to mind at all. I live in West Chester but will only come back to this location. Thanks Phil! read more

My daughter called in distress about a nail in her tire. It was 8:15pm and I suggested she find the nearest Pep Boys. Although the shop was closed an employee offered to stay late to help her out. They fixed her tire and didn't even charge her! She offered a well deserved tip and he refused to take it. Worlds worst experience(s). I came here for a simple oil change. If you schedule an oil change during the weekdays online, it is pretty cheap. The service took over an hour, when I told them I would wait. They tried to charge me way more than I was promised. It took them 3 managers to change my price and no one said a word to me while they did it. I filed a complaint and the service manager contacted me later saying my next oil change was on them. I scheduled my "free" oil change online. I contacted the service manager to let him know I was coming. He gave me an attitude saying he didn't remember my situation. I showed up early to my appointment. The service manager was a complete jerk and told me it would be a two hour wait and that I could leave my car there. I left and went to Oil Lube Express across the street. I will NEVER be returning to this or any other Pep Boys ever again. read more

Awful experience. I bought my car out of state and brought it here for a simple inspection per PA laws. I dropped it at 10, was told it would be done around 1. By 5 I called them to find out what was happening and they had yet to start. I called again at 7 to find out they had still not started the inspection. By that point I said forget it and am taking my car elsewhere. This shop is not worth your time. There was no communication between their people and they did zero work. Definitely will NOT be coming back here again. I had a scheduled appointment at 1 to get new tires, which they didn't even take my car back until at least 1:40. They didn't have the tires I wanted that showed online, so they gave me an alternative at a discounted price which was great initially. 1.5 hours later they called me to say that the tires were the wrong size and they didn't have the right size in stock. I come back and they said give them 20 minutes to get it all back together. Well that was almost 50 minutes ago at this point. 2 hours completely and totally wasted. I do not recommend. read more

Terrible! I was very disappointed with the service here. They charge their customers a large amount for service that other places do for free. They replaced a headlight that I bought FROM THEM that took them 5 minutes to complete and charged me $23 after the fact. This is a rate of $420 an hour, and it was twice the amount of the headlight itself. Absolutely ridiculous! I have never had an auto store charge me for this service until now. When calling and telling them about the free service of other places they basically called me a liar said that no other place does that. I will never go to Pep Boys for anything ever again, and I will never recommend it to somebody else. I hope they are happy losing somebody's business. read more

I do believe Pep boys Exton branch did rip me off last Saturday. I'd been going to this store for Mobile 1 oil changes several times and each time they charged me differently. I always used store coupon trying to save some money but the cheapest charge for my Mobile 1 oil change plus tire rotation was 67 minus $15 coupon but they charged me $125 last Saturday for the oil change only! (i had a $92 once). I don't think I am going back to this Pep Boys Shop for Mobile 1 Oil change next time without asking the total charges first. I am disappointed. read more

Got a flat, put on the donut in 98 degree heat. Took the tire to Pepboys, Exton on Sunday afternoon. Was told they couldn't look at it for 2 hours. Understood they were busy. Left the tire and asked for a call when done. Never got a call. Called Monday afternoon, they said it was done. I asked if I could come by at 5PM and they could put the tire on. They said yes. Got there at 4:45PM, they said it would be an hour and a half. I asked for a call when it was done and confirmed number. Went nearby for food, came back in 1 1/2 hours found the car done. Also found they simply threw the donut in the trunk, not in the underneath storage compartment. Rude. Got home and found an email from Pepboys at 5:09PM saying car is done. No call and no pride. read more

Believe all the bad "press" not sure about other pep boys, they very well could be great but exton pep boys is plain bad. Dishonest. Disrespectful and zero customer loyalty. A laundry list of complaints over the last 3 years we have finally thrown in the towel with this store. I can say 100% they can not be trusted. You absolutely need to get a second opinion on any automotive repairs they may claim you need. I know this. They didnt get my money but they tried last year and got caught "red handed" and couldnt/wouldnt deny it. Automotive maintenance and repairs are too expensive and too important to leave it in the hands of exton pep boys. Absolutely NO way i can recommend this store to anyone. I called to make an appointment for a battery replacement in my Honda Pilot. I told the service writer associate i needed a memory minder attached to my battery before the terminals were remove from my battery. so i don't loose the codes on my radio Absolutely he said. when i arrived to pep boys i spoke with the service associate at the desk and i reiterated i need the memory minder attached to my battery so i don't loose the radio codes for my radio.. the service associate said absolutely..the battery was installed and i paid the bill. i went to my car and started it up.. the radio flashed CODE IS MISSING PLEASE LOAD. I went back into pep boys and asked why my radio says the code needs installed? well it was not communicated to the wrench this needed to be done. i asked for the manager. "he is out to lunch" .. well i need to take my vehicle to the Honda dealer to get my code reset. very inconvenient. i took my car to pep boys because they said they could replace my battery with out any code resetting... my recommendation talk to the mechanic that is going to work on your car if you need any specific tasks done so you get your car back working properly. or don't take it to pep boys and go buy a new car fresh-maker. read more

This place is horrible! I took my truck in for repair. They charged me 900 dollars for numerous fluid flushes and re wiring... But failed to actually fix the problem. My truck broke down on the way to work two days later. So 1000 dollars to have a tuned up yet broken down truck. Pep Boys in Exton Pa is the worst. read more

Girlfriend had a slow leak in drivers front tire she took it in for them to plug. They reported that they couldn't find anything maybe it was from the cold temps ( just that tire?) ok they proceed to tell her they found a nail in the rear drivers tire and it can't be plugged as it's too close to the sidewall so they recommend 4 new tires quoted 900-950 it's a murano and new tires about 2 years ago so lots of tread left. I told her to hold on and get a second opinion. She goes to Mavis to get the 2nd opinion on the slow leak turns out it's the stem $20 and low and behold no nail in the rear tire even took her back to show her, all the tires look good. Nothing bugs me more than when a garage tries to take advantage of somone that doesn't know cars. We've had a couple things done there but won't anymore. Shame on you pep boys of Exton. Why do the service employees always seem to have an attitude problem? Just today i walked up to the counter and as I'm approaching I see the service girl, Tammy, roll her eyes. I smiled and said, "hi, i have an appt to get my oil changed." She let's put an audible sigh and tells me, "Well, just so you know, we're really busy so i don't know if we're going to have time to work on your car cuz we close at 9." (Really? Is 2 hours not enough time for am oil change?) "So what about my appointment that i made earlier today?" I asked. She mumbled something under her breath and then magically my appointment was no problem. I told her that I wasn't dropping off, that I'd be waiting. She mentions that there is ONE appointment ahead of me. This place is in serious need of some customer service training!!! read more

I went to this location several times for brake issues. The first time I went I spent close to $1000 on brakes. I returned again after because they were apparently not fixed. I was charged another $500. After a few months my brakes were unable to stop me and I felt terrified and unsafe. I brought the car back in and they charged me another $1000 saying they only did the rear brakes. Fine. So they charged me another $900 to fix them again. You'd think after all that time and money (within one year) I wouldn't have troubles with my brakes anymore. Not so, because a few months later I hear my brakes making a cracking noise once again, as I'm in the middle of paying off the last job on my pep boys credit card. I will never go here again because they don't seem to be able to get the job done and then become rude with me when I question them. I sincerely do not recommend them because they appear to be tricking you out of money. I will not be referring any of my friends and I hope the thousands of dollars they will be losing from my friends in family might impact them to do a better job. read more

He kept me informed on what was going on and suggested options that would save me money . He went out of his way to make sure everything was done correctly. I waited for 45 minutes while the incompetently trained employees attempted to reboot their register computer, and when it finally booted up, they didn't even know the password to get the thing working again!! I usually have great customer service when I shop at pep boys, not today! The boy who waited on me today I think his name was Shaen was absolutely horrible, I had purchased two bulbs the other day one was defective, I tried to return it, this boy basically said I was a liar and that Pep Boys would never sell a bulb that was defective, he then walked five feet away into the office and was telling his manager that I was a liar that I was trying to return a used bulb!!!!! He then stormed passed me mumbling under his breath! Really? I then told the manager that I would pay for a new bulb, I explained to her what happen because the rude little boy wouldn't let me explain what happened, I also told her that he was a horrible customer service rep. She on the other hand could not have been nicer. I think if my husband had been the one to go in there he may have been treated with more respect. What ever happened to the customer is always right? This boy needs to go in the back and stock shelves and not have any contact with customers! read more
