The Bad: Due to recent move to FoCo, I did not have time to find a reputable mechanic.  In haste, I went to the closest service (Pep Boys on south 287).  I believe they properly fixed the coolant leak; however, they insisted I needed to replace many other parts/etc, which drove the bill up to $1970.  I dropped my car off at 9a, and on the same day, they called at 5p, stating it would be ready for pick up at 6p.  At 6p, PB called stating the car was not ready (they stated an employee left early). IMHO, on the 5p call, they knew the car was not going to be ready -- I believe they lied to me, and also broke their service agreement (they said it would be done by mid afternoon).  The following day they called at 12p, stating the car was finished (I had to cancel work appointments, etc -- loss of $).  Post PB service, and just before pulling my car into the garage, I applied absorbent dust to the garage floor (to absorb coolant fluid).  The next day, as I pulled out of the garage, I see fresh/dark fluid.  I do a finger dab, and quickly determine it's ATF fluid.  Full/honest disclosure: since 2006, I have never visible seen ATF leaks of any kind. Before bringing car back to PB, I took photos/video.  I brought my car back to PB and employee immediately, before any inspection, denied any wrong doing, and explained they do not fix transmission issues.  In the same sentence, the employee explained to me that they could call the local AAMCO service manager to set up an appointment, and also get me a great discount for AAMCO service.  My reply -- before we jump to transmissions issues/conclusions, aren't you going to put the car on the rack and look at it?  They did a quick inspection on the rack, and when finished, repeated the AAMCO offer -- suggesting a potential severe transmission issue.  My reply -- Why did you not see the ATF leak during your initial inspection/diagnosis?  PB had no reply.  I turned down the AAMCO offer, and went home.  I did some research and guess what -- Pep Boys and AAMCO are owned by same entity.  Could this be an unethical or illegal business practice? The Good: Per the advice of a new FoCo friend, and to seek a 2nd opinion, I went to BG Automotive.  I explained my entire PB experience.  They diagnosed the ATF issue and physically showed me, while the car was on the rack.  They explained to me 1) you have a micro ATF gasket leak, that is so small that you would never see fluid marks on garage floor or other, 2) they showed me the ATF receptacle -- it was caked in ATF fluid, which suggests/confirms the following -- the only way your car could have leaked that much ATF fluid overnight (as seen in photo), if it was over filled -- it's called a burp or expulsion of excessive fluid, and gravity would have led fluid down ATF tube, and eventually onto the floor.   Based on my entire experience with PB, I am now convinced there is a high chance that they knowingly over filled my ATF fluid (so it would burp, and then they could send me to AAMCO to potentially fleece me for more $).  Fishy, scam or other, and don't forget horrible people skills, I am glad to be done with PB and will never return.    BTW, my customer experience with BG was 5 star superb!  Brandon Pursley provided excellent, client-centric listening/communication skills/service.  All employees greet you with a smile, hand shake and positive professional attitude. They keep you in the loop, from start to finish, and advise you of what is a critical  'must fix' vs. a non-critical 'fix it later'.   Shuttle service with Katie, and heated seats, was great!   BG has earned my trust, and I highly recommend them. read more

I was helped by Mike at Just Brakes, and he provided excellent and honest service on a day that he wasn't even supposed to be working. My car died and needed a new alternator and belt (not cheap), but Mike was able to help me out on a Sunday and fix my car within an hour and a half. I was incredibly grateful, and my car is running great so far a week later. I have no doubt that it will continue to run smoothly. My only complaint was that a grease stain was left on my passenger seat, but Mike called a couple of days after to see how everything was running, and once I told him about the stain he offered to send my car for detailing next time I was at their shop. I was very impressed with not only the follow up, but the offer as well. I plan to take advantage of that soon. That is why I will still give them 5 stars. I don't like being given a bogus quote. I called last week and was told $178 for all four brakes on a 98 Nissan. The price for just the front brakes turned out to be $219 (for the lower end brakes no less) once my car was jacked up in the air and all the wheels were off. The better brakes would have been $250 and all four brakes would have been $350. That's a far cry from $178 when I called less than a week before coming by. I was told that the discrepancy was due to a "Change in management." Also, the links to leave feedback on their email about customer service reviews don't work. **WORST SERVICE EVER** I attempted to take my car to the store in Fort Collins Colorado. I called the day before and made an appointment for today 8/25/15 at 3:00pm. When I called I asked how long it would take and I was told about an hour and a half. So my husband made arrangements to drop off the car and come back home for a bit then go pick it up when it was done. My husband arrived at the shop at 2:50pm and was told that it would be worked on shortly and he would be contacted once the diagnostic tests were done. At 4:30pm we still hasn't heard back from the shop, so my husband called and was told that they hadn't even looked at the car. My husband stated that he had an appointment at 3:00pm and the guy told him that an appointment really means that it will be next in line. My husband asked if the car would be done today and be was told probably. At 5:15pm my husband called back to ask if they had started working on the car yet and he was told no. My husband then made the decision to just pick up the car and not have it serviced after having it sit around for 2 1/2 hours and have nothing done. This is absolutely HORRIBLE!! I will NOT be returning, nor will I EVER recommend this company. We should have been told upfront that the car was not going to be worked on right away! And we certainly should not have been told it would be 1 1/2 hour job!! The guy working didn't even apologize for the inconvenience!! Luckily we have found a competitor that is willing to do it for the same price and begin working on the car when we bring it in. I wouldn't be so mad, but my husband and I share 1 car. We needed diapers for our 4 month old daughter and we were going to go run errands after the brakes were fixed. But looks like they might not have even been fixed. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Ladies especially. I went to them to have my brake pads replaced. They came back to me ten minutes later and told me that unless I could do $800 worth of repairs, they wouldn't even touch my car because it was dangerous. Needless to say I was devastated. I didn't have that much, so I took my car and the estimate they gave me to another mechanic. They had written me an estimate for parts my car doesn't even have, not to mention they flat out lied about my car being dangerous to drive. The other mechanic did new brake pads and fixed something else for $200 and my car is still fine 2 months later. These guys tried to take advantage of me because I was a girl all by myself, they're shady, I would take my business else where if I were you. read more

I just got back from Just Brakes in Fort Collins, and I am very pleased with the service and staff at this location. I had planned to drop off my pickup and pick it up the next day. The mechanics stayed long after closing to finish the brakes on my truck. The were careful to salvage my deeply rust pitted rotors. I am no automotive expert, but I do know enough to do a lot of my own work. The mechanics were very honest about the condition of my brake system, and they kept the price reasonable. I had a coupon in my pocket, but I couldn't bring myself to use it given the level of service the staff provided. I don't know if all Just Brakes locations are the same, but the people I dealt with in Fort Collins were personable and honest. When I have the time, I plan to have them replace my struts and shocks. It's rough when you have to pay a lot for car repairs, but I think that you can count on these guys to sell you no more than you need. I don't feel that way in a repair shop very often. read more

I called Just Brakes for an auto emergency over the Fourth of July. I just needed to get my jalopy back on the road, and I wanted the bare minimum. There was no girl-at-the-mechanic vibe here: they did exactly what I wanted them to, and explained what needed to be done in the future. (In my case, they suggested a junkyard, and I don't disagree.) The work was fast, cheap, and effective (so far). I will probably call Just Brakes again next time I'm in a pinch in Greeley. read more

Before going to Pepboys, I checked pricing on their website and downloaded the $20 coupon. Their website noted a synthetic oil change for $74 and with their coupon should be $54. But upon arriving, they quoted me $105. I showed them the web site pricing. They would not honor that price nor recognize the coupon. Won't go there again. read more

I had taken my car into Just Brakes to have my rear brakes replaced. After getting a big, long upsales pitch about how my car actually needed hundreds more dollars in work than I had requested, I haggled down to what I had requested in the first place. Here's the thing: before I had taken my car into Just Brakes, I had checked my brake fluid and there were no leaks. About a week after I had my brakes done at this place, my brake pedal goes straight through to the floor. I checked the reservoir and it's bone dry. So I fill it up. A few days later, the brakes are dry again. A leak had "SOMEHOW" developed in my brake fluid line. The fun thing is that my car had a hydraulic clutch. I say "had" because the leak that had suddenly, magically developed in my brake fluid line only after I had taken my car to Just Brakes wreaked havoc on my clutch, leading to $1k+ in repair bills, all told. Avoid this place like the plague. They either have no idea what their doing, or they will maliciously screw with your car to get you back into the store if you don't fall prey to their upsales scheme. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. read more

This location is under new management and the service was phenomenal! Manager Ammon was most accommodating and saved my butt. I had bad brakes and rotars forever and procrastinated severely on having them fixed. All others across Fort Collins were not able to take me in for days. Ammon worked with me on getting the appropriate parts I needed and came in with them. Turns out; my calipers were completely messed up and my van was in really bad shape. Do not go the the one on south college what a joke the guy in the front was watching t.v while helping customers. I called last week to get an estimate but when I went in to get the estimate the price trippled. They take advantage of women. They were under my hood for a while asked them why they said they were doing an inspection. there was no need for that they should have that posted. If I could give this excuse for a business 0 stars, I would. I've never witnessed firsthand an extortion attempt until I drove my squeaky brakes onto their lot. After a few minutes of inspection, the attendant came and told me that my brakes were so bad they he could not legally let me leave with my vehicle without paying for their service. He claimed he would have to call a "wrecker" if I couldn't afford the service. He told me it would be $654.00 to do just the back two brakes. I called another shop and was quoted less than $400 with an oil change and brake line flushing on top of what Just Brakes quoted me. I then called the non emergency police line and was told that Just Brakes had no legal right to withhold my personal property from me and that what they were doing was illegal. After informing the attendant that I did not want their service and had called the police and confirmed they could not keep my vehicle from me, he CONTINUED to argue and say he had to call a "wrecker" then. I'm concerned about how many times they've pulled this extortion and how many ignorant people have fallen victim. read more

This is a great place to get ripped off at. I initially took my car in to get new brake pads. I got the cheaper version, which commonly squeaks, but I was not informed of this. I took my car back to the same location after a while of squeaking, wanting a reason for why they kept squeaking. They told me it would be a quick check, then three hours later...I left with my car that supposedly didn't squeak anymore. It still squeaked, so I went back a THIRD time, when they finally told me it was because I have the cheap quality of breaks. After a long, frustrating conversation, I settled for buying the higher quality of brakes, and asked for an oil change while I was there...which I was told would be very cheap. When I picked my car up, they put the highest quality oil in...and charged me the full price for it. Needless to say, I left angry, ripped off, and will never be returning.
