BG Automotive? More like "BS" Automotive. The one star is for an oil change (since 0 stars is not an option). BG Auto IS SHADY, smooth talking for sure, but A RIP OFF. STAY AWAY. This is a lengthy description, but it's not half the story. To all the glowing 5 star reviewers - check your invoices. The problem started with their "courtesy inspection" accompanying the oil change, where half of their recommendations (deemed red flag "Requires Immediate Attention") ultimately turned out to be mostly unnecessary and absurdly expensive. That became apparent only after paying. My bad, of course, I obviously should have asked to see a detailed estimate prior to the work. The initial estimate did not provide parts or labor detail & appeared to indicate the work was part of a "complete tune up." Upon dropping off the truck, "Service Advisor"Jesse stated that Champion copper spark plugs had been factory installed on 2013 RAM 2500s, so that was best & what BG would install. Classic BAIT & SWITCH: BG charged $508.48 for a set of 16 plugs! When I challenged the bill, asking if "kryptonite plugs" were installed instead, Jesse indicated, no, the copper plugs were used... then he checked his computer & stated, actually no, in fact the [far] more expensive NKG iridium plugs were installed. "They're much better because they last up to 100,000 miles," he emphasized. I replied, "Great. BG just changed out NGK iridium plugs that had been in the engine already, with only 60,000 miles on them." The WORK WAS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. Also on the bill was a "TOTAL FEES" charge of $175.77 (yes, that specific), but with ZERO DETAIL of what those fees were for or how they were calculated. Jesse couldn't provide that detail either, "It could be shop supplies, or hazardous disposal - you know, those state regulations - it could be almost anything." Note there were no hazardous materials involved with this work, such as a tire or battery disposal fee. (Google search indicates: In Colorado, shop fees are usually calculated as a percentage of the labor cost (e.g., 5-10%) and are often capped at a maximum amount (e.g., $25 to $50). Also, Colorado statute requires the repair invoice to have some kind of description of these fees, and further, "a description of each part by name and identifying number." Nowhere on the invoice was the type of plugs installed specified, either. You get NADA DETAIL from BS Automotive. Finally, while repair shops typically mark up parts 70-100% of wholesale price, BG is marking up parts in the ballpark of 100% of retail price. (If you can pry out of them the parts brand they say they'll use, you can easily verify this with a Google search at their counter.) They should be ashamed and embarrassed for what they're charging the hardworking folks of Longmont. When pressed to justify the charges, Jesse insisted they were competitive, "within 5% of other local repair shops." More BS. Comparing apples to apples (parts & labor only), the local dealership quoted over $200 less, the Loveland repair shop I've frequented in the past was over $400 less (obviously, checked after the fact...). If the handful of other shops Jesse quoted are actually within 5%, they are ripping us off too. Jesse would not budge on the final bill, but he did offer to comp me an oil change. As if! I had already told him I would never set foot in BG Automotive again. However, I would take a call from the BG Automotive (Owner) to provide the rest of the story about this pathetic BG encounter. read more

NOT GOING BACK I had work done at this (Fort Collins, CO) location before, so when I needed my air conditioning fixed they were one of the first places I called. I wanted to price check, so I also called Breaks Plus. To both places I thoroughly explained what was going on. Breaks Plus told me that from my description, I would need to get a $99 diagnostics before they could tell me what was going on. BG Automotive told me, "just bring it in, we don't charge anything to just take a look at it!". "And we will never charge you for work without your approval." I thought, wow this is amazing, no fees to find out what is going on! I showed up for my appointment and retold the guy checking me in what was going on with the airconditioner and a few other small things I wanted done. He said, "ok, let me give you the estimate". I was so confused, how could he give an estimate if we didn't know what was wrong. Then he says, "for today it would be $327 dollars". I was in shock! I asked what that was for, he proceeds to tell me almost $200 of that was for a diagnostic on the air conditioner! "Blah blah, here is why we have to take a deeper look...." I tell him what was told to me on the phone. He says, "oh yes, that is what we have to say to people. It IS free for us to JUST LOOK at your vehicle. But I know my guy is going to tell me it needs a diagnostic run." I was so upset, I asked if I could step out for a second. This was almost double the price that Breaks Plus had HONESTLY UPFRONT told me it would need. After I cleared my head I walked back in and said, I'm going somewhere else". They then quoted a price of nearly $2,350 for the front and rear brakes $850 MORE than the dealership's inflated quote. I found another shop that did front & rear rotors and pads for $685. Took my car in for an alignment, discount tire recommended this shop. Was later called and told they couldn't do the alignment because my tie rod ends were loose and needed replaced, quoted me $450 to do this for passenger side only. Immediately called my mechanic who had just inspected these 2 weeks prior and found nothing wrong with them. He said he would charge us $265 for the same work if it was needed. Brought car in to him, he put it up on the lift and inspected it, said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the tie rod ends. This is why we take our cars to a single owner shop who does the work himself with pride and honesty, not these places that have many shops and probably high overhead they are trying to scam us to pay for with work that does not need to be done! I had my brakes go out while visiting a friend in Fort Collins. I brought my vehicle here because I saw how many great reviews I had. The salesman Brandon was extremely pushy, and having just checked all my fluid he said they had to recommend those changes anyway saying the fluid was dirty, which was absolutely 100% FALSE. Note the 'brake fluid twice on the estimate, and 'parts cleaner' twice as well as having a pretty high cost for the rotors and brake pads (definitely top end) I can get those for almost half that price without a discount at the store, same for the brake pads. Also note the 'Core charges' on there. Those are from the auto parts store and will be returned to them when they bring the old cores back in. I had a lot of hope but was extremely disappointed in the lack of honesty in this company. UPDATE The owner Mike called and was very apologetic, agreed that he would certainly discuss the extra charges with the sales team and make sure his business was on par with his specific ideals and standards with all his team members. I had an appointment for 9 am, they didn't take my car back until 1030. They were finished by noon. When I questioned the 400.00 charge for spark plug change. They said it is customary to charge for the full time allotted which they said was a 2-2/12 hour job. I said, but it only took you less than an hour?? I also asked what their labor charge was and they said it depend on the job, which spark plugs are 200.00 an hour. I called Kia and they said it was a 60-90 min job and they charge 160.00. They have me replaced my car engine. The moment I was here, I feel that everyone is friendly. I will no longer be taking my car to this company. I had some negative experiences in the past, but nothing ever worth reporting on, but I decided to give them one last chance to redeem themselves and they royally messed up. I was looking at a car to buy and decided to take it to the Webster location in order to get an overall check up to make sure it was worth buying. The owner of the car, someone I had never met before, decided he wanted to come along, which was completely understandable, due to it still being his car. While the car was up on the jack, BG let us come back and look at it, which was thoughtful and afterward they said it looked like it was in pretty good condition. They sent me an online URL with my full name, home address, phone number, and email attached to a check list explaining what looked bad and what looked good on and within the car, I paid $100 for this whole process and we went on our way. Later that night, I told the owner that I decided I was going to pass on the car and he informed me that he was able to get a copy of the report from BG, which had all of my personal information attached to it, and he was going to use that, in addition to other paperwork he had, the following day to sell the car to one of three other potential buyers he had. I was very upset knowing that this complete stranger had all of my information and was going to be giving this paperwork, I purchased and had my personal information on, out to other strangers as well. The next day, I went down to BG Automotive and expressed my concern. They said that the whole interaction between us the day before seemed very casual and they did not think twice about giving this information over to this stranger, the car owner, through text. They said they were able to take the URL down so the owner could not continue to have access of the information, but they had no ability to know if the information had already been printed. They did delete the URL promptly. They then asked me what else they could do to make the situation better. Being the thoughtful customer, I told them I would take half a refund, hoping they would do the right thing and refund me completely for dishonoring my trust. They came back saying the best the could do was give me a $50 Visa gift card. I have had two nightmares since that day about this stranger coming to my house and attacking me. This will effect me a lot longer than them deciding $50 is the best that they could do. I appreciate what they did, but I expected more from this company and hope that they have learned a very important lesson with giving out customer's information to anyone who asks for it. Then to add to this, I posted this review on their personal website and as soon as I submitted it, the post disappeared. There are no negative reviews on their personal page, so I would not trust what you see. It seems they do not allow bad posted to be viewed by the public. Update: As soon as I posted this Review, Mike, the general manager, reached out to me and apologized profusely for this event happening. They are going above and beyond to make sure I am taken care of. They also said a protocol is being put in place so this sort of thing does not happen again. I am very grateful and thankful for these actions. These actions are more representative of what I've always believed this company to be like. I brought my Car In for their Most Popular Service to get it an alignment done. While I spent about 20 mins explaining that I only wanted the front 2 wheels looked at and done (with the small addition of having them switch the plates) they proceeded to take the car for 6 hours and do a full systems check on every detail.. they ran every check that I rlly didn't need them to run and then had the courage to bill me... What made me even more mad was that they pulled the oldest trick in the book of putting lint on the Air Filter. My car is almost new/ driven only in this state... with air filters good for 50k miles on new rides.. I was amazed they took to take the time to take it out of the front and actually dusted it more.. Brought my vehicle here while under warranty for a claim. I brought them the OBD2 codes I had read and they seemed nice and thorough. Rebecca then told me my battery had been replaced on 3 separate occasions and expressed that I likely bought a lemon. She was super responsive until I sent her the current CarFax report which showed that not a single battery had been replaced and only the battery charging station had been checked while the vehicle was in for regular maintenance. Since then she's now disappeared and no longer handling my claim. I've since been told that they have to tear all the panels off to check for electrical issues. What happened to just using a power test light? Oh because that takes 10 seconds and doesn't allow them to rip clients off. Thank god I know honest mechanics I've consulted with throughout this process. Three service reps at Jeep reviewed the report and said tearing off panels was completely unnecessary. BG deserves ZERO stars and they need to have the better business bureau pay them a visit and shut them down. Truly appalled at the severe lack of integrity and dishonesty this chop shop has. I would not recommend taking any vehicle to BG automotive. Although they seem nice up front this company are rip off artist. They charge outrageous amounts for anything. Have diagnostic fees that shouldn't be charged. Don't fix the issues that the vehicle was brought in for. And will sabotage your vehicle to have other issues to spend thousands on. I Spent thousands on my truck and still have the same problem I brought it in for. My front drivers wheel has rubbing noise in it. They took down my drive shaft in the back for some reason that can't be explained that caused the vehicle to vibrate so much you couldn't drive it. Changed my front drive shaft. Replaced the IWEs. Not to mention they had my truck for a week. They somehow caused an engine light to come on and then wanted me to pay thousands to fix their mistake of breaking off bolts on my truck causing an o2 sensor light that wasn't there before I brought it in. This company should be investigated for consumer fraud. I hope the owners can hold their heads up high getting rich by ripping off hard working customers. Absolutely do not take your vehicle to BG Automotive. And come to find out they just bought out Fred's automotive that was one of the most trustworthy mechanics in Loveland. Second positive review. Had some trouble with several of my vehicles. Brake issues on F350 and cooling system failures on impala. F350 was squared away along with completing some deferred maintenance. Fixing impala took several visits as it had two different problems. Brandon and Greg provided excellent explanations and backed up previous work Np when Impala went back in for third time. Backing up work with a warranty is rare in this industry. This shop has a philosophy of transparency and being upfront. They look over all cars that come in and let you know with pics and information the status of your car. Then you can decide on what to fix, or what works for your budget. They keep this information so when you return they have some history on your vehicle. Outstanding service! The afternoon before Thanksgiving, I had to bring my car in to have three seized/corroded wheel studs replaced so that a tire shop could finish installing new tires. Not only did BG get the job done on such short notice within a couple hours, but they inspected all the other wheels and ended up replacing five wheel studs, as they found two others that were questionable. They also even offered to give me a ride to somewhere while I waited. I didn't need a ride as simply walked over to the nearby KFC that had food and wifi, but it was a very nice gesture. I tried booking an appt online, to which it said I would be placed in a queue and will receive a call if/when an appt is scheduled. Never received a call, but got a text the night before the scheduled appt at 430pm. I get there, and the front desk employee told me I had to leave the car there overnight so that they can diagnose. Unfortunately I wasn't able to, so then he kindly offered to have a tech go on a drive to try and diagnose. I met the tech and explained to him why I was bringing my car in, which was a wheel bearing noise/vibration only at 50+ mph. The mechanic proceeds to floor the gas pedal out of the parking lot and proceeded to perseverate that the "noise" he was hearing was a transmission issue. I've never had issues w/ my transmission, and have no reason to believe that a rotational noise that only presents itself at 50+ mph is a transmission issue. I explained to the tech that I was more concerned about the noise mentioned above, and he proceeded to floor the gas pedal at every opportunity he had. Then, continued to perseverate on the "transmission issue" and completely ignored the reason I came into B/G in the first place. Rough first time at B/G, won't be coming back! read more

Honestly, I will not return to this location. I waited a week with a promise turnover of two days, which is not my biggest problem. I took my Toyota Land Cruiser over to BG in Fort Collins with hopes of repairing my power steering, a/c and replacing all of my belts. There was zero clarity from the beginning on what it would take to fix the power steering and I kept getting calls through out the week about new things needing to be replaced, so first off at the end of the two days, the entire power steering assembly needed replaced, which I went ahead and had it all done. When they drove my vehicle around front to return it, the new pump broke and needed to be replaced as they were driving it out for to me to take home, so right back it went, and after about a week, I had to return my vehicle to replace the pump for a second time. So two of their new pumps failed within a week. Secondly, as far as the air conditioner went, I did decide to let them know that it was my last priority as I could deal with the heat and I could just roll the windows down, but that we would go ahead if they could diagnose it and fix it for a reasonable price. Originally I was quoted 260 to diagnose and refill, so I went ahead and did that, then another 330 to correct the issue by installing a switch for the compressor after diagnoses, but they assured me that the a/c was fixed. By the time I had left, I had spent about 300-400 dollars exclusively on labor for the a/c and 600-700 total on the fix. I finally took the car home and the next day the a/c stopped working after the direct statement stating that it was diagnosed and fixed. They then proceed to let me know when I took my vehicle back to replace the already twice broken pump, that there is a leak in the compressor and condenser and those will also need to be replaced even after they had my vehicle for a week to fix power steering and correct all issues within the a/c. I had let them know right away that I was going to opt in to fix the a/c as long as they can guarantee the work after the original diagnoses and could get me out under 500. Now they are telling me (after not checking the compressor and condenser and not diagnosing it completely) that they need to replace the compressor which is 2200 dollars. I wouldn't have even agreed to work on the air conditioner in the first place if they would have correctly diagnosed it and let me know that it was probably going to be over the 500 dollars they quoted me in the first go around. Belts are good, but I'm waiting around to see how soon they start to fail as they use cheap parts and only replace them with the same cheap parts when they inevitably fail. 3 years/100k mile warranty, but what they fail to mention is that they use cheap parts and that they fail before their warranty is up and the only pro rate the amount when you have to take it back to fix. The frustration is from the lack of accountability on their end with their blanket statement of, "it's an older car and things will come up." Well, why wasn't the air conditioner fully diagnosed the first time around? Was it to get me to continue to pay them money for an issue they knew was going to cost more to fix to begin with? A 3400 dollar bill for new belts and power steering assembly that's gone out twice already and still no a/c. read more

Auto owners beware! They will happily recommend replacing something in their repair estimate that they haven't actually inspected. Case in point, I had my cabin filter replaced on a Friday and took my vehicle to them the following Monday. The vehicle sat over the weekend. As part of a $2,800 repair estimate they recommended replacing my cabin filter, which was replaced with a new one 3 days earlier at an oil change biz. I talked with the Manager, Frank, and he said they don't always inspect everything. I responded by saying then why would you recommend replacing cabin filter if it was never inspected... as it turns out it is brand new. Needless to say, I got a bunch of defensive babble from him. Botom line: if they are willing to do that over a cabin filter what else is false on their recommendations and/or estimates? Happily I did a thorough review of the estimate and caught it. I'm sure they assume most people do not review the estimates thoroughly. What a quick way to create customer distrust. They are all about upselling even to the point of being unethical, which that absolutely was. Will never return... read more

My car check engine light was on and I went to this place for repairs. They charged me over $200 for diagnosis and they said I need to change gas cup and solenoid. I paid over $600 total and in a week, the check engine light came back on with the same code. I contacted them again and asked if I should pay to fix the same problem, Matt told me I shouldn't but the other guys told me that the car has another problem, same code, and I should pay for it. I paid my money for nothing. I doubt their professionalism and they are unwilling to help customer. read more

they did head gaskets on my 09 legacy gt. Was supposed to get pictures as the job was done. never happened. charged me 4000 dollars for head gaskets and valves, my throw out bearing was making an extreme squeak when I got my car back, he said, oh we did not touch anything on the trans side. it was extremely obvious it needed replaced. when I complained about the price, they said they would put a new cv axle for free, it was the cheapest crap they could find, lasted about two months. stay clear from here, especially if you have a Subaru. 4000 grand for head gaskets and a autozone cv axle. read more

This review is three visits, rolled into one write-up, delayed due to the pandemic and my taking the stay-at-home orders seriously and, therefore, not driving too much: My trouble had started perhaps a year ago; the front passenger-side headlight kept burning out. I think I went through at least three headlights in about nine months, and thought the problem was beyond me to fix; I brought my car into the shop on 1/21/20 to rebalance one tire and to replace the headlight. Shortly thereafter, as I am sure we're all aware, the pandemic hit. Jump ahead to the beginning of July, and I had my spark plugs replaced (2012 Subaru Forester...it's not as easy as it sounds), the serpentine belt replaced, and had another key unit made. I moved in the beginning of August to another location in Fort Collins, and this place has a garage; I noticed after a few starts/stops in the garage that the same headlight was out again, so I brought it back and made clear that the same bulb kept going out and that a simple bulb swap wouldn't suffice. The mechanics ran a test of the headlight and discovered that the headlight bulb had been arching the current, causing the voltage to spike to the bulb, which would consequently melt the connector and fry the bulb. After replacing the wiring harness and replacing the bulb, all is well. These guys really went the extra mile in making sure the work was thorough and completely done. I want to thank the mechanics--who I don't know by name but recognize by face--and Frank in the office for making everything seamless. Thanks a lot, and I will be back! read more

Took it to another shop to get body work done and they said that my LF tire (the one BG replaced) was a different brand than my others so a different tread pattern which caused....erratic handling in snowy weather. These folks are fantastic. Needed to have my car diagnosed and fixed the same day to travel out of town. BG Automotive did a thorough check and found that it was only a battery issue. They got me up and running in a couple of hours. Their staff are very friendly as the seem to know everyone that walks through their door. This is so refreshing from other places went to. Do not recommend. Car wasn't starting and I had just replaced the starter and had a warranty through Napa and this place was under the same warranty so I took my car in here. They couldn't find or recreate the problem but did charge me $130 to drive my car around and use my gas only to have no answers or solutions for me. read more

I've been coming to BG since 2007 - in 2013 I moved to Denver but my wife and I still make the trip up 25 to come have BG work on our vehicles. Everyone says, "it's hard to find a good, honest mechanic these days" - and that's true! And it's exactly why we come see Brian and his team. Honest as the day is long and will tell you what the problem is before doing any work and make sure they answer all your questions thoroughly before proceeding with any repairs. The best is that they'll let you know items that don't necessarily need work today but that might possibly need looked at over the next 6 months.
