I can't believe how low the rating is! Either some of you are lying or you're just Karens. This place is the best ever! I only take my cars here! Have been since 2019. The team is awesome and they always take care of me. I had some issues with my belt last year and they trouble-shooted and got me some good deals on the parts and were so helpful and now it runs great. Yesterday I went in to get my other car inspected and it had some expensive issues. They worked with me while I figured out payment options and were so patient and helpful. Joel, Tim, and Austin are usually the people I talk to and they are amazing! I trust them and the other mechanics in this location more than anyone else. As a loyal customer who has brought three vehicles to this store for years, I am deeply disappointed by the complete lack of service quality and accountability during my visit on September 5, 2026. Key issues from this visit: Lost Appointment & 11-Hour Wait: Despite showing my online appointment confirmation at drop-off (8:15 AM), the service writer claimed I didn't have one. My vehicle was placed in a low-priority queue and not finished until 10 minutes before their 7:00 PM closing time. Ignored Instructions & Unperformed Work: I provided explicit instructions to use my supplied Motorcraft filter and empty the oil catch can. The service writer wrote these on a Post-it note instead of the work order, and the tech received neither. The catch can was left full, and my tires were never rotated (left in their exact prior positions), raising serious doubts about whether the balance or alignment check were actually completed. Property Care: The vehicle was returned with greasy handprints left across the hood and fenders. Refusal to Fix the Mistake: After installing an aftermarket filter instead of mine, management claimed the next day that a company policy prohibits using customer-supplied parts. This policy was never mentioned at drop-off--despite the manager being present--nor enforced during any of my previous visits. I genuinely valued this location and expressed to the manager that I wanted to resolve this internally without leaving a negative review. Unfortunately, local management refused to take responsibility. At this point this place needs to either be shut down, or corporate needs to do a walk through for proper business techniques and timelines. I am so upset because I literally took off work because online I scheduled for my A/C to be looked at for 12pm today. my appointment was scheduled and confirmed. I even got a text reminder to remember my appointment for today. however something told me to call just to confirm as well. When I called the Gardendale location, I was Immediately told "We don't do A/C services here at this location at all. I asked how that was possible considering it let me schedule online for this specific thing specifically for this location. They then said "Well yea they do that for all the locations but this location is the only one that does not do it." I told them that they could have at least called to let me know as I am sure they get some type of notification that an appointment was scheduled in their system. He then asked me when my appointment was and I told him the time. He confirmed my name which shows it was in their system. However he said he JUST opened it today, and it does not "Clarify" on their end exactly what the appointment was for. Which I do not believe, considering how detailed and organized the website itself is as it relates to picking a reason/issue you are having with your car. I then told him thanks, and I will just find somewhere else to go. He then stated, "Well no I can.... well wait, our A/C machine checker is down too so I wont be able to do it." It took him not even 2 seconds to say their A/C machine was down as well, which either tells me that he knew this from the beginning and could have stated that from the beginning, or he was just simply lying to soften the blow so that one could assume "Well he tried." I then asked DJ (That was the guys name) could he at least assist me with contacting another location close by that does do it, since this was not my fault and from a customer experience this was not a great one. DJ then said "Well I could, but they are gonna tell me yes all day and when you call they are gonna tell you something different." Which for one, does not shine a good light on you all's business at all, and it shows that YOUR employees are not honest ones. So just know that you all's business have an employee that is saying that about other employees and it makes you all look bad when it comes to company values. I told DJ I was willing to take my chances and if he could please at least help with that. (This is the kicker) he told me I am just going to have to call them myself. Because he does not have the time to do all of that. While DJ did not have an attitude and he was not per say rude. He also had a lack of empathy or care for my situation. This just seems to be an everyday norm for him. He did not feel as though my situation was important enough to fix considering I again scheduled like I should have, and there was a lack of communication on top of it not being my fault at all. He could have easily had someone else in that building to help him make that happen. As I am certain he was not the ONLY one working in that building that day. A phone call like that would not have taken long. I am just disappointed with this experience and if I could give this place zero stars I would. I will NEVER recommend anyone go to this location. This place needs restructuring, and maybe even some training on how to deal with customers. read more

Completely DISHONEST employees at this location - kept lying instead of being honest with the timeline and effort they would have to put forth. Had a blow out on the interstate and instead of helping in a time of need, they just waisted our time. The Pep Boys in Gardendale Alabama is absolutely horrible I will never take my business to a PepBoy. I've made 2 appointments on different occasions and every time I go in for an appointment the Assistant Manager DJ states they can't get to my vehicle due to double booking. It's very strange this always happens to me not sure what's the motive or if this particular location is just lazy and doesn't want to work. The service is a 1 and I will inform everyone that I meet not to carry their vehicle to a company that doesn't offer service to a customer. All is wanted was a front end alignment. pep boys gardendale called and inquired about a 4 wheel alignment and tires mounted and balanced. I told him the make/model of my car, Austin said that they could do it. It was supposed to be a 3 hour job.. (yeah right) arrived @ 8 am sat there for 2 hours no one touched my car. Got a ride to take care of a few things, I call them back @ 2pm. Austin... "oh I was going to call you " (really) we can't do the alignment because their set up is too narrow for my car... hmmmm you would think someone with brain stem activity would've been able to figure that out from the description of my car that was communicated at the point of contact! @ 2pm they had just started to mount the tires.. I had offset tires, smaller series on the front larger series on the back. The visual references were already in place. i arrive @ 5pm to pick up my car it's parked between 2 cars, paid and went home. The following day I looked at the car. I couldn't believe that these people mounted the tires incorrectly. They put the larger series on the front and the smaller series on the back. you had 1 job and dropped the ball.. I was not impressed with how the employees were moving around. always follow your first mind. substandard quality, sub standard quantity of work lastly substandard cus service! DJ you should shut the doors!! ill NEVER visit ANY pep boys based on this one encounter. read more

If I could give these mfers a zero star I would this is joke of a company I waited damn near 2 hours in the waiting room waiting for them to fix my car just for them to not even start on it yet. And then when they called me while I was sitting in the waiting area they told me they couldn't find my tire lock and it's always in my driver door. So obviously somebody took it. This location had very friendly associates that did not try and rip me off. I was treated with respect and they were all so professional. I thought that I was gonna have to get my tire patched since there was a large nail in it...but they were honest enough to tell me that it was just superficial and they just pulled it out and didn't charge me anything for it. Wow, they certainly made a customer for life now. And another thing, they showed me how awful my cabin filter was and explained to me what it was for. Of course I had them replace it but that was out standing too! Most repair shops don't show you what the problems are but they actually showed me the filter. I purchased Michelin tires for a Cadillac SRX in 2013 which had a six (6) year or 60,000 mile warranty. I had less than 40,000 on the tires and was told they needed to be replaced. I contacted Cadillac of Birmingham where they were purchased and was told that my Cadillac would never get the full mileage as warranted and offered no solution. I contacted Michelin who gave me the names of dealers that could be contacted to help. I went to Pep Boys in Gardendale, AL and could not have been treated better. They honored the warranty on the tires and I was on my way in less than two hours. The Assistant Manager went above and beyond in helping me. Highly recommend. If I could give less than one star I would. Horrible horrible service. We made an appointment online and once we arrived we were told that if you make one online it is not very effective. However we were assured that they were slow at that time and it would be no problem. Throughout our hour and thirty minute wait for just an oil change, we were even given the entertainment of watching the workers argue and cuss each other out in the front of the store and complain about customers. Keep in mind nobody else came through the entire time but somehow it still took that long. Not to mention, the waiting area looks like it created the Corona Virus. The Mechanic Paul is a trustworthy man. If tjere is another problem with your car he points it out to you to prevent a future breakdown. He seems to be a good God fearing man as he attends a local prayer group on a regular basis. I have complete peace about him working in my car. read more

Well my appointment to get my brake pads and rotors replaced was at 10:00 this morning it is now 4:00 in the afternoon and I have yet to receive a clear update on my vehicle. The only thing I was told is that they ordered the wrong parts for my car and they'd be here by 2:30 and it'd take around an hour or so to put everything on. Countless individuals have had their car serviced in the time I have been waiting, completely disappointed. read more

Had tires put on and an alignment done. Soon after a loud noise was coming from the front of the car. I brought it to a different garage figuring Pep Boys had done something wrong or broke something and no longer trusted them. Turns out I was right not to trust this place because the noise ended up being because the wheel was loose, this Pep Boys only put the lug nuts on finger tight and my wheel was about to fall off. Beware!! My mom brought her car here for a simple oil change and left with problems. We brought the car back twice to have the issue - an oil leak - fixed, and both times the car continued to leak oil. The car was perfectly fine before Pep Boys got involved. read more

In one word, HORRIBLE. I purchased four tires and had them mounted and balanced. Also, had an alignment done the same day in September of last year. So, that came with the lifetime rotate and balance. So, in march of this year I rotated the tires myself just because I had the extra time to do so. So, I figured it was time to get a balance done a month or two later so my wife took it in to pep boys in Gardendale, Al. They tell her that the tires are worn due to alignment issues and that the two on the back need to be replaced. Not realizing they did the alignment, once that was brought to their attention the whole story went from it being alignment wear to there must be something wrong with the rear axle. So, my wife called me and I ask her to just bring it home so I could see what they were talking about. It was pouring down rain. So I wasn't able to look at it until the next day. When I did I found that the steel wires were sticking out and the wear was all to the inside of the tire, the lug on the front driver side was dislodged, freely moving around, the lug nut was missing completely, and they had damaged another lug on the rear of the vehicle. Then I called and talked to the store manager Jason about it and he said I would have to bring it in for him to evaluate. He also stated that his techs did not make any notes on messed up stud or other problems. So, the following day I took it back first thing that morning and he put it up on the rack and stated that the tire was wore all the way across again completely changing his story from when my wife had brought it in. At that point I knew he was lying because I had already inspected the tire myself and noted the wear was to the inside. So, I go watch him put it on the alignment machine to check the alignment where him and his mechanic kept adjusting the panels until they were satisfied with the results they thought would persuade me that it was nothing to do with them. When it's clearly going to show its out of line because the rear tires are worn so badly (from being on the front) on the inside of the tire which will cause it to appear out of line. They said my rear axle was terribly out of line and when I explained there are no adjustments that can be made to the rear end of a 97 mustang since its solid. They started saying it had to have been damaged at some point. So, I Said that being a solid axel it would take the car being hit hard or a wreck on the rear to cause the damage that he describing and he said yes. When I told him, the car had not been wrecked and no such damage had taken place he started backpedaling stating he doesn't know what caused it. So, I said "will you replace the tires or not" and he said "yes I can replace them" I said "ok replace them and fix the lugs that your tech damaged and I will take it somewhere else to have it checked out". He then said "he had nothing to gain by replacing the tires since I was going to have someone else take a look at the rear end and so he wasn't fixing anything". I said "so you're not even going to fix the lugs that your tech broke". He stated "I am not fixing crap I am getting your car out of my shop". I told him you need to fix the lugs that your techs messed up He stated "STOP TALKING" in which I replied "I am the customer you stop and listen" He ran his mouth a bit more about how he wasn't going fix anything and lowered the wheel alignment machine and started my car revved the engine to a high rpm and rammed the wheel chocks (that were holding the vehicle in place on the alignment machine) with the already damaged rear tires. I yelled "REALLY" and he yelled back "YEA REALLY". I called the customer service line and explained what happened. So, keep in mind this is not a tech I was dealing with it is the store manager Jason that did all this. So, on the advice of customer service I attempted to drive the car home since they said it would take 24hours for upper management to get back to me. So I got about half way home and my ABS light came on so I had to pull over and call my dad to bring his trailer and pull the car home all in all about six hours from start to finish and not only did I leave with even more damage to my vehicle in addition to the damage they already caused to the lugs and no tires to replace the worn tires caused by their faulty alignment now I can't drive the vehicle until I find out what damage they caused and repair the damage to my abs and who knows what else by their blatant abuse of my vehicle (caused no doubt by slamming into the metal tire chocks while the store manager threw his child like fits). So Now my wife and I are having to borrow a vehicle just so she can go to work all because store manager Jason doesn't know what good customer service is and has absolutely no respect for people or their property. Bottom line If want your vehicle abused, damaged and be treated like garbage give them a visit I am sure Jason will accommodate you. As for me I will never go back read more

I brought my car in to have the road hazard warranty honored after picking up a screw in one of my tires. I had used a can of fix a flat and pumped it full of air in order to get it there for repair, but the pressure was already low after the 5 minute drive. When I told them I had road hazard on my tires and needed to have a flat looked at, they said it would be at least 2 hours and I should just come back that afternoon when they were less busy. This is right after I heard another associate tell ask someone if they could bring their car in right then to have a new set of tires put on. When I said I was worried to drive it home and back (with my 5 year old in tow, no less) the associate said I could pull around and he would put some air in it. It's very apparent that these people care nothing for safety or honoring their commitments. If they aren't going to make a buck on you right then, they aren't interested in your business. read more
