I don't know the first thing about cars and was having an issue with mine for a while now. I kept putting it off despite the issue being very visually apparent (I'd love to explain what it was but I think this would turn into an essay). It had gotten extremely bad as I was leaving the Galleria one day (no longer just visual, now making a sound) and so I stopped quickly at this nearby Pep Boys. I walked in confused and flustered, and was met with such kindness and patience that I wasn't expecting. The employee at the desk immediately understood what was wrong through my gibberish, explained the issue & varying ways to fix it, then assured me he could handle it. What started as a dent in my fully planned day turned into no more than a brief stop as he had it good as new extremely fast, which was a lovely surprise considering I was a drop-in. Was further surprised when I was informed this job was free of charge?! I really wish I had gotten the employee's name but overall he was so extremely tentative and nice. What I know about tires would fit inside a gnat's navel and still leave room for his belly button lint. So when I had to swerve to avoid a suicidal squirrel and scraped against the curb, resulting in a strip of rubber dangling from my semi-new tire, I was in trouble. I went to the Pep Boys at the Galleria where I bought the tires a few months ago. Do I need a new tire? Do I need TWO new tires? If I get just one, will it throw off my balance? Ignorant as I am, I had no choice but throw myself at their mercy and trust them not to see a rube covered in dollar signs. Thirty minutes later, the clerk called me over and escorted me to the work bay where my car was on one of those thingies that raise them off the ground. The mechanic beckoned me over. This couldn't be good. "Sir, these tires still look brand new. The rubber strip of damaged to the tire that you saw is purely cosmetic." He went on to point out where the protective rims did their job, keeping tires from sustaining damage when I saved the squirrel with a death wish. "We can sell you some tires if you really want to buy some, but you don't need any." What I paid in money: $0.00 What they earned in customer loyalty: priceless. I bought the tires from Pep Boys originally. You can bet I'll buy tires from them forever. And I'll be darn sure to take my car to them for every other automotive need it has, that they can perform. This was my first time at this pep boys location. I had my driver side front flat tire . Stan was helping me. They charge me for TPMS and did not set things properly. So I have to go back the next day and ask for the TPMS issue. They looked at it for few min and said it was already damaged due to flat and cannot do anything. I Have to take it to the dealer. The dealer told me the sensor was damaged during installation of the tire. I know that it was not damaged when I had flat because it was working properly. This is my issue First why this was not check when the tire was installed. Second why don't you inform me about this issue. third you charge me for TPMS. I went to NTB and they told me that they cannot set the TPMS by just looking. I will never go back and will definitely tell everyone to stay away. Update: I have emailed them and no reply. So until today we had nothing but good experiences at this Pep Boys. Wife dropped off her car for an oil change and then received a call about an hour later that she had "7 nails in her tires". Long story short when I went back with her to pick up and questioned how we had 7 nails in 3 tires with no air leaks in any of them, it suddenly went from 7 nails to "1 confirmed nail and 6 metal type objects". Suffice to say we found 1 nail and multiple rocks in her tires but only the one nail. This was confirmed after taking it to Costco where we purchased the tires originally. This location struggles; my 2nd bad experience here. My car was returned filthy after a $500 tire replacement. Steering wheel, door and hood were black with grease. Tire and rim had so much lubricant I thought my rim was scratched. Appreciate them getting the tire in stock quickly but a Manager should be inspecting for a job well done before vehicles leave the shop. read more

Pep Boys in Hoover has always serviced my Honda 08 for about the past 6 years. They have always done a great job. This most recent time I was helped by Larry who did a wonderful job! He met my price range with repairs and took time to explain everything to me. When I go back I will always ask for him! My only small complaint is that when I went to pick up my car that evening Larry was not there and while the man was checking me out another guy (looked like a service employee) was arguing with the man checking me out and he started saying how he was going to write him up for bad behavior. Literally THE most expensive oil change I have ever paid for in my life. Even my Mercedes was not $133. They quoted me over $1300 for front and rear rotors and disk brakes. When I declined they were able to "give me a break" and do $1100. I still passed. I'm getting them done for $650. So you tell me if that's not the worst way to get repeat business? My daughter was visiting from out of town over a weekend when a heater hose on her '98 Honda CRV started leaking - on a Sunday. I took her car to the Galleria Pep Boys where they said they could fix it but it would be ready late in the day because of a short staff. They called to say the car was ready and, when I went to pick it up, there was NO CHARGE because the repair only took a few minutes and they had a piece of heater hose that fit exactly. I have been taking my own cars to another shop on Lorna Road about a half mile from this Pep Boys location but their work quality has been suffering lately. Needed my battery replaced which was originally bought from Pep Boys. It was still under warranty and so brought in to them. It was a bit of a challenge due to it being able to locate the radio code to my van. Each employee took time to look at manuals and were offering several ideas to get this number. I recently had my tires balanced and rotated here. I called the day before, and they said they could take me the following day, just to arrive early. The customer service was great, Craig was especially friendly. I loved that there was a text sent to me when I dropped my car off and a link to following along with my car's progress throughout the day. I was very pleased with my service. Paid for tires a week ago.  Was told over and over they're here, we just don't have staff to put them on and get the job done.  Took my car back and forth on four different occasions, the last of which they had it for 3 days all the while paying for an Uber as they weren't able to deliver the advertised "free Lyft" service.  Spoke to District Manager just this morning and he assured me all was well and job would be done by lunch.  I'm now in route to pickup my car and get a full refund as they cannot locate my tires.  I have empathy for all that society is going through right now and especially small business owners trying to navigate getting employees to show up for work, but in the words of Chris Berman....."C'mon Maaaaaan".  I explained what I've gone through for the last week and you didn't even bother to verify what you're telling me.  Won't be back guys! Took my truck to pep boys in the galleria circle in Hoover Alabama. Requested 4 tires, idler arm, pitman arm, and alignment. After keeping the truck all day they called to tell me the truck was ready at 5pm. Go to pick the truck up and pay for it, I make a left turn out of the parking lot and the truck doesn't drive straight. The steering wheel is 45 degrees off to the right and the truck sways, going 10 mph. I turn around. They say they will fix it tomorrow. ( they blatantly knew there was a problem with the truck and still let me pay $2000 for the bill) this is unacceptable. The following day I hear nothing from them so I call them at noon, "we haven't gotten to it yet, when our tech gets back from lunch, he'll get right on it". Heard nothing from them until 5:30 pm when I called them, now they are telling me I need a gear box because they can't align it well enough. This part is the most troublesome part because I know for a fact that it does not need a gear box. Informed them of this and said they'll check it out again in the morning.  So now on the third day, still no one has contacted me at 2pm so I call them, and they're only advice is that the technician states you need a gear box. The only statement I got from the guy on the phone was "we can't do the alignment any better, the steering wheel still leans" Offers no course of action, offers no second opinion, offers no refund, nothing. $2000 for work on my truck and all I get is a here you go good luck read more

This was my first time to ever visit Pep Boys and it will also be my last. I went in to get a front end alignment and 4 tires balanced. 2 1/2 hours later I call to check on the status of my vehicle and the guy tells me they are having a difficult time balancing it. I was told I needed caster camber plates OR lower control arms to get the front end alignment perfect. He then tells me the technician got it better than it was but it was not perfect so he said he wouldn't charge me for the alignment. I was told my tires were balanced and I was ready to go for around $40 something dollars. I got into my car and the steering wheel is off set and my car is pulling so hard to the right it was dangerous. My car was also bouncing like a basketball due to the poor balancing. So my car is now in WAY worse shape than when I brought it in, I was out $40 and they waisted over 3 hours of my Saturday. I took my car Monday to A&R tire and they balanced it perfectly without any additional parts. They said the balancing was way off on one tire and that's what was causing it to bounce all over the place. I would never recommend anyone to use Pep Boys for any service whatsoever because if they can't properly balance a tire or do a front end alignment that says enough. read more

I purchased a set of tires from this place about a month ago at a cost of approximately 1000 dollars. I wasn't really pleased with the work and way it was done but let it go. The wait time for the tire replacement was almost three hours. I have had a problem with the rear tire not holding air and took back to have corrected. I was told it would be at least an hour before any one could look at and unknown after that. The agent behind the desk said it wasn't his fault that no one was there to work on the tires. Monday mornings are always the worst, but this particular Monday was very bad for me. I woke up with a flat and had my car towed to this Pep Boys. The man up front, Pete, was especially helpful. He was kind, thoughtful, and handled my issue in a timely manner. He even helped me work out the price of the maintenance needed on my car so I didn't break the bank. They were pretty busy in there this morning but Pete still made time for me. He explained every issue in detail and explained the cost and estimated time that the work would be finished. He was patient with me and all my crazy car questions too! Pep Boys also gave me a free Lyft back to my place so I wouldn't have to sit in the waiting area all day. My favorite place to take my car! I have 1999 Toyota Camry and as expected with an almost 20 year old car, she has some hiccups every now and then. Every time I come in the guys are so pleasant and thorough in explaining what the issue is with my car. It can be intimidating as a female dealing with mechanics but this group has never made me feel inferior. So customer service AND great work? YES, Pep Boys is the place to go. they might get the job done right, but do not use this place if you are planning on needing your vehicle in less than 4 hours from when you bring it. it took them 4 and a half hours to change my oil. last time i brought my vehicle, with a scheduled appointment, they had me waiting almost 5 hours and when i went to see how much longer they were going to be, they tell me that they had not even began to work on my vehicle. We took our car to Pep Boys at the beginning of the summer. Our car is older and we weren't sure whether to make the fairly expensive repair or bite the bullet and get a newer used car. We went with making the repair. It took over 3 months to get it right with many returns to the shop. The shop and the Pep Boys management worked diligently with us until they got it right. It was a difficult repair, but in the end, we got our car and the group was helpful and friendly the whole time. read more

Pep boys is great for oil changes but don't ever trust them with repairs. Don't try to complain to the corporate office no one ever returns a call. Take your car to a dealership for repairs they know what they are doing and allot of times less expensive than Pep Boys. Boy, did I learn my lesson. In response to the business owners comment, if they are so concerned about a job done right how come no one ever contacted me after four times calling the corporate office? I would think twice before doing business with a company that does not feel it is important enough to address a consumers concerns. read more

I recently had to get an oil change while I was traveling. I have used this location many times. Even though the faces have changed the service is ALWAYS white glove professional and quick. This is where it takes a turn. So I drop off my car and leave to grab a bite to eat. I get a call telling me that I need lots of additional work (tires, struts, shocks and a lot more than I care to share). The staff was patient with my sticker shock and explained WHY I needed the work done. They explained the Benefits and cost saving making me feel completely satisfied and willing to fix it all at once. They also did all they could to reduce the total cost.
