Several days later my car wouldn't start and my engine light came on. It turned out to be a key fob battery. When i fi ll up on gas in an area that was potentislly unsafe i had gased up leaving my car running apparently this is whst caused my engine light to come on not to mention a fire hazard. Apparently, static electricity can cause and explosion. In my defense, i am an 80 year old widow living on a pension. In the 40's and 50's not only were there no cell phones, there were no computers. You can see how vulnerable i am. Nic and Brody have listened patiently and provided all the info i needed. Infact i was given a list of all repairs that were needed and the corresponding price. These were divided into those i needed right now, those that coul wait a momth,, and those that could wait longer. They both approached me with respect and kindness which has prompted this review. This is background so you will understand my impression of this busiiness. First of all they were.johnny on the spot. I arrived and they promptly got my Tiguan(my baby) back after Nic and i discussed that she Was a used car and i love her and wanted to take care of her. I had just driven her from the car lot. I wanted to check her out from bumper to bumper. Not only did their mechanics check her out, they provided me wuth a listed in order of priority and cost of each. I was prepared to leave when Nic said to me that the serpentine belt was about to break. I thought Nic was going not going to let me leave wi th it in the condition it was in Nic sent one of his workers t7o go get the belt and put it on. Took an hour including picking up the belt. I got the feeling he was trying to inform me without scaring me. What did i know about serpentine belts.Not a thing! Everyone i encountered behaved that way. I have not felt that way since my husband passed. It was quite touching. Now i learned a new woŕd KeyFob. It has a CR 2032 battery. If the battery is dead so is your car. Lesson # 2. Now being 80 at night when i needed gas if i felt frightened, i would lea e the car running while i gassed up. Did you know that would cause the engine light to come on. Lesson #3. Or that you should never have the car running while gasing up because like static Lesson #4 electricity could cause the car to catch on fire or worse.

While Cahaba tire may be a great spot for tires (cannot comment on that), it struggles for more complicated diagnostics. In this case, brought in the car with a set of lights blinking on the dashboard and reduced braking capacity. A simple google search or a question to AI would have immediately pinpointed even a novice to the fact that this was an issue with the brake booster, simply based on the codes. Yet, the crew here immediately jumped to diagnosis of a faulty battery with great confidence. After inquiring if it could be the brake booster (as I already searched the codes myself), they assured that it's not. Well, "mechanics know best", so I thought. Who am I to argue with them. Thus, paid for the battery, got it replaced and sure enough, all the lights came back on after half an hour of driving. Bringing the car back to them, they acknowledged the misdiagnosis, yet said they cannot fix the issue with the brake booster and it needs to be taken to a specialized shop. However, they did not offer to comp any part of the initial repair cost to replace a battery that wasn't the problem at hand, which would have been a reasonable thing to do from a customer service standpoint. In other words, owning up to their own mistakes and that they wasted a whole day for the customer. Sadly, that did not happen. While everyone was very kind and appeared genuine, the result as a customer is a wasted day without result at a mechanic shop due to overconfidence of the team here and a cost of a battery that potentially did not need to be incurred that day (which there is no way to know for certain now).

Being…read morethere already, I asked if they could replace the O2 sensor under the car that I had previously purchased. I was charged $145.00 to unscrew and replace a simple part. It is a basic task requiring no longer than five minutes. I paid the extreme amount anyway and left. A mile from the shop, the hubcap flew off and passed the car. After retrieving it from the ditch, it was plain to see that someone had busted it. Additionally, the rear hubcap is also broken. After being sufficiently fleeced by the labor cost, an additional cost of thirty-five dollars was necessary to replace the hubcaps they destroyed. I will never patronize them again, and I cannot recommend their services.

I have bought at least 4 sets of tires through Discount Tire. My past experiences have been…read morereasonably good, but this latest set has tested me. I originally somewhat reluctantly purchased a set of Cooper tires knowing a 30 day free exchange warranty was offered. After riding on them for about 2 weeks I decided the ride was too much of an off-road feel where as I was prioritizing a highway ride. I elected to pursue the exchange. Moving to a tire listed at $20 per tire more resulted in a proposed added cost of $500. I looked closer at the breakdown and learned that in addition to the expected $80plus tax, I was to be charged for: 1) a new tire warranty. I was told at this time that the previous tire warranty I purchased for $25 per tire or 15% of new tire cost was non-transferable. Not only non-transferable but also non-refundable. This is probably covered in the miles of pages of terms and conditions but wasn't made clear to me. 2) The tire balance and mount which the company website stated should be waived was not. 3) To make the change, I had to waive the new tire warranty that would have added $35/tire or an increase of $140. A business that advertises honesty isnt as transparent with their advertising as expected. I'll be looking elsewhere for my next tires.

Watch out the service manager really run up a repair. The owner was unsympathetic and acted like he had better things to do than listen to my concerns. I needed my truck fixed. Their initial quote was higher than another by $140. They have a great looking building on the outside and I assumed I was paying for top notch work. They assured the truck's return later that afternoon, knowing I needed the vehicle for work. They called back and suggested a radiator on top of the requested water pump. They said it would be cheaper to do both. My radiator was working fine, but it was older and I should replace it now. Next, they acted like it was a real challenge for them to fix my vehicle. They had a hard time locating a GM radiator and then kept it through the weekend and again all day Monday. They literally charged me 3 times what it would be from a wholesaler. For a common Chevy radiator, they acted like they did me a favor finding one for $500. I went to them looking for my new repair shop. I feel like they took advantage of me being in a hurry to get it fixed and they lost a potential solid customer. Oddly, they told me my temperature gauge was broken when I went to pick it up. I had already told them to allow the motor to warm up properly. Apparently they didn't bother, the gauge works just fine, but they wouldn't put the time in to really check. Next they accused me of trying to get the gauge fixed for free by lying that it worked when I brought it in. I was flabbergasted, I had to pay a premium price for their late repair, then I got called a liar because they wouldn't even bother warm up the motor on a new radiator installation. I bet they are good mechanics, when they want to be, but they mishandled my repair, wasted my time, and then demanded top dollar after admitting they had no idea how to get my gauge working. They repeatedly told me the diagnostic machine didn't give them an answer so they couldn't fix it. The owner basically called me a liar when actually they were not very thorough with their assessment. Who tells a client you broke his gauge, can't fix it, call him dishonest and then still be wrong about the gauge even being broke? They have lousy people skills and I can only assume they are lazy mechanics. They still have no idea that my temperature gauge works and they just let me leave upset. They offered me no compromise of any kind.

At Auto & Truck Services, aside from a very qualified crew, you'll find the definition of character wrapped up with dependability, honesty and impeccable integrity. The heart and soul of the crew is husband and wife team, Norman & Grace, who have served the town of Birmingham for decades. So, when you see that those rates might be a little higher, understand you get what you pay for. When mistakes are made causing you to have to return, know that they stand behind their work. Lastly, there are endless variations of vehicles, makes, and models.
