The steering wheel of my car was shaking after 40 mph, then I took it to Pep Boys in order to check it. I was told that no balancing or alignment was needed in my car, but most probably it would need a transmission work, because the steering wheel was shaking due to a faulty transmission, at least that's what I was told at Pep Boys. Little did I know that my car only needed a balance in which they could have done over there, but it took me another mechanic from another place to tell me that I just needed to balancing the wheels, which was done by this other mechanic and my car was running perfect again. The service and the time they took to do my vehicle was fantastic not a long wait at all.. All and all everyone who works there are really great people to deal with. I came in for an oil change. They were very friendly at all. I suppose it's my fault for not asking the price before giving them my car. My car is budget car and the oil change cost over $60! I had a coupon for 20% off, and the man (with a big smile and courtesy) said that he had already given me a 'bigger discount'. He didn't scan the coupon. And the price was over $60. So this morning I checked online to see how much oil changes should be. It says betweeen $33-$55. They should quote price before the job. read more

Needed 4 pads & 4 rotors. Checked competitors and this place was fairly priced, after you used their website's 15% coupon and a mail-in rebate. The work that was done appeared professional, in a reasonable time frame. Some discount brake repair places will use inferior components. I received good Wagner ceramic pads (limited lifetime warranty), and PepBoys' in-house brand "Prostop" rotors (two-year warranty). These are likely Chinese castings equivalent to OEM rotors. My only disappointment was that the rotors were not "coated" -- an electrostatic corrosion protection on hubs and vents like paint, better suited to protect against salt + humidity conditions. read more

I love this place. I don't love all Pep Boys, but I have never had a bad experience at this one in Eatontown. There have been times when I have gotten a price from them, and thought the job was maybe too complicated and took it to the Honda dealer and I have ended up paying more. They are fast and easy to work with and have all of your information on record. Getting tires there is a good deal because they will always fix them for free. I actually feel bad for them because it seems like the corporate headquarters leaves them understaffed a lot but it is not their choice. read more

Dropped my car for service at 8am for a 1230pm service. It took 20 minutes to even speak with someone. At 430 I called because I received no phone call to update about my car. I was put on hold for ten minutes. Second call, I was told no one had looked at my car and put on hold for 20 minutes. Third call, I was told no one had looked at my car and no one was there to do so. I went to the store, offered my car back not serviced. The employee showed no interest that I had gone late to work, spent two days worth on transportation rather than one, lost money on childcare. I was asked "do you want your car or not?" Repeatedly. I was told "the money you've put out is not our problem" I was told there is no manager to speak with. No resolution was offered. read more

I have been going to this branch for about a year how for my vehicle maintenance and repairs, They have always been decent and efficient but my last visit was terrible. It took them nearly 15 minutes to search my appointment on their date base. I had an for a synthetic oil change and tire rotation. I was told it would be one hour tops. It took almost 2 hours, and worse yet they did a conventional not a synthetic. When I asked the cashier why this happened, he simply passed on the blame to the crew who serviced the car. Awful experience I was there at 4pm today called before I arrived and was told to come at 4. I needed my brakes changed. It took them 4 hours!!!! 4 hours!!! They finished at 8pm...I couldn't believe it. The guys seemed like they hated their job and moved slow.. terrible costumer service. I live locally and own few cars I will not be going back to this shop!!!! There was another costumer before me who according to her was waiting for 5 hours. This is definitely the worst auto shop experience of my life. I made an appointment for 12:00pm and it took over an hour and a half to get my oil changed. After an hour I told them I have another appointment at 1:30, and they handed my keys back at 1:29. I asked the employee at the register what the point of an appointment was as I missed another VERY important meeting at 1:30. He told me that just holds my spot in line, which is ridiculous and should be clearly stated if that's true. I told him about the very personal family issue which was the reason I needed to be somewhere at 1:30, and he began shouting back at me telling me that I should have spoken up about my situation. This was infuriating because I told them I had something at 1:30, and it was a very personal matter and I shouldn't even have to disclose my personal issues. It's on the Pep Boys employees to honor my appointment. He proceeded to basically throw my keys onto the counter in front of me. He did not charge me for the oil change, which is what I expected and thanked him for. And as I left he kept yelling that my situation was very serious and I needed to say something earlier. Yeah, thanks for your input guy!!!! I do not recommend this place to anyone, not even my worst enemy. I was pretty much lied to and then disrespected for not having shared my PERSONAL information. Earlier this week I realized I had a slow leak in my drivers side rear tire. I then took my 2019 Camry down to my local Pep boys auto shop to have it assessed and looked at, by one of their professionals. I was told then to wait about an hour while they inspected the issue, just to receive a call about 30 mins later stating that what looked to me as 1 single silver staple, & 1 silver nail that had penetrated the tire, but not on the outside to where it could've not been plugged.. had turned out to be "3 Huge Holes in my tire" as I was told by the mechanic looking at my car. He said the tire was not fixable and I had to buy a brand new tire & have that put on. I then denied that service and told him I would have my car looked somewhere else for a 2nd opinion. This morning I took my car down to Mike's Auto Repair in neptune where I watched him take the tire down pull out a silver twig that look like "The staple" which wasn't actually a staple nor did it penetrate the tire & he also removed a long nail that was about 31/2 inches long and put a plug in it... now my tire is PERFECT! The only thing that was in the tire was the nail & was in fact FIXABLE! I believe they tried to get over on me because I am a young female in my 20's who came alone & wanted to take my new tire, plug it up and sell it after they sold me a new tire... these are my assumptions but IF IM LYING IM FLYING ... I will never shop or do any business with Pep Boys Auto every again! Thanks for trying it. read more

On our way home from Wildwood, traveling back home to Long Island, New York when the bearing on our trailer broke (we were trailering two Harleys). We stopped at the nearest Lowe's for help. Unfortunately they didn't have parts to fix anything or help but everyone there pointed us in the direction of pep boys and said they for sure could help us and if they could not, they would try to help us find someone that could. We get there and no one would even look at us nor give us the time of day. Each person we talked to was less concerned than the other. They told us they could not help us at all and that even if we got the parts to fix what needed to be done, they would not help and we (ourselves) could not do anything in THEIR parking lot. Finally after minutes of the same conversation, we spoke to a heavyset man with glasses who told us where to go (TSC). He was helpful but other than that, bad customer service! I went to have a blinker bulb and tail light bulb installed, they said 45 minutes, so I said ok and would wait. Two hours later I ask what's up. Four men behind counter can't find my keys or paper work. Finally they print out work order and attempt to walk away. I ask for my keys, then they find them too. By then I'm obviously livid, because my car had been done and no one told me. No one offered any apology either. Then had to scan parking lot for car. Then the empty bulbs and packages on my seat in car. What a lousy display of customer service, you should all be ashamed. I will never use their services again ever. read more

Please get a second opinion on the work that you will entrust these people to do! I was told to allow them to assess their own suspension work on my car. They diagnosed the problem to be my tirods. Their mechanic Wayne S. was completely wrong . They estimated the work to be over 950.00 .The problem was that it was not my tirods . Good thing I went elsewhere . Not only were they erroneous. When I walked in, a person did greet me at the door and handed me a sale flyer. I saw two guys at a counter to my right. They were on the phone. I walked toward them. No one looked up to acknowledge me. One finished with his call, and still didn't look up to acknowledge me. Neither did the other. I went to the guy who just finished his call. I asked if he could help me. He looked up, said, "No," and looked away. I waited a moment thinking he might be kidding. He was not. He offered no other answer. I began to walk away, and he said to my back, "You gotta look for the guys in the white shirts." I looked around a little and saw a guy sitting two desks away wearing a white shirt. I asked if he could help me. He abruptly responded, "Are you lookin' for service or retail?" I said, "retail; I need lug nuts." He then replied, "No, retail is over there," and pointed in the direction of the aisles of products on the other side of the store where there was absolutely no one on the floor. Meanwhile, there were no customers waiting for him, or the other guy I encountered, who happened to be in the "Tire Service" section. In case you didn't know, pep-boy, lug nuts go with tires. I proceeded to walk in the direction the white-shirt-guy said to go, and found a guy behind the "online order pick-up" counter. There was no one else to ask for help anywhere. I said to this third guy, "I know your sign says "online order pick-up," but is there any way you can tell me if you carry this lug nut I am looking for?" I showed him a sample one that I had. He looked at it and said, "Yes, I think we have these." He came out from behind the counter, walked over to where the lug nuts were kept, which by the way, were right behind, literally three feet away, from the white-shirt-guy, who I originally told I was looking for lug nuts, that sent me to the other side of the store to find someone! He works in the tire section! Lug nuts were right behind him! He couldn't turn his body five inches in his chair to show me where to at least find the lug nut section!? The first guy, if he had any intellect, or customer service ability, might have said, after his curt "No," -- "I can't help you, --but let me find someone who can." Considering the fact he was not with a customer at the time. The white-shirt-guy was also, equally, ridiculously inept at customer service, and the other guy on the phone could have at least looked up to acknowledge the presence of a customer in the waiting area. Not one of them did that at all when I approached them. PepBoys, it might behoove you to teach customer service to your employees at this store. If the employees are too "macho" to provide decent service because it might make them seem subservient to female customers, another solution to this atrocious customer service would be to hire people with excellent customer service ability, and train them on the products and services you provide. If you can provide good customer service, it means you are intelligent, and can grasp concepts about other things related to the company for which you provide customer service. That's all. read more
