I went in for an oil change. They told me 1 hour. I was still waiting 2 hours later which is insane. Not only was I never updated but I witnessed 2 different people come in and get their oil changed before I did. We had a flat tire with sidewall damage when arriving in town for a lacrosse tournament. The donut spare got us to our hotel that night and the tournament the next day but I needed a solution to get us back home to CT. I was worried because I was totally unfamiliar with the area, we needed to get home that evening, and were limited in travel distance and speed. So after the last game of the tournament we headed to Mavis Discount Tire and hoped for the best. While they could not source the exact tire that was damaged due to it being exclusive to another retailer, they were able to find me a similar pair of tires to go on my rear wheels for a reasonable price. The mechanic noted that my rear brakes were in need of work (which I was already aware of) and they offered to handle that at the same time for a very reasonable price - slightly less than what I would have paid my usual mechanic at home. Knowing we were from out of town and had a 3+ hour trip ahead of us, they prioritized getting the work done quickly so we could get started on our journey home. After blowing out one of my tires almost a year ago, I went to a different Mavis location and purchased 2 replacement tires (thanks to AWD). Fast forward to the last several months and those 2 tires from Mavis have been loosing air pressure (2-3 psi per day) nonstop, forcing me to add more air every couple of days. When I finally found some time, I stopped into this Mavis without an appointment and explained my problem. They took my vehicle right in, diagnosed both tires with defective valve stems and replaced them at no cost to me! I was out of there within an hour and couldn't be happier! WHEN I ASKED A DIRECT QUESTION ON THE PHONE AS TO HOW MUCH IT WILL COST *Max* FOR 10 LUG NUTS FOR OUR 2007, BASIC SUV, I COULD NOT GET AN ANSWER; NOT EVEN A BALL PARK. FOR LUG NUTS! --- VERY SHADY. THE GUY ON THE PHONE RAISED HIS VOICE AT ME WHEN I RESPONDED, "SO YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT WITH A CHRYSLER 2007 SUV, STANDARD PACIFICA 3.8 L, YOU HAVE NO IDEA OF THE MAX BALL PARK WE COULD BE CHARGED? THE GUY RAISED HIS VOICE AND SAID, "LOOK. UNTIL WE GET THE CAR IN THERE'S NO WAY TO KNOW!" (I asked because this had red flags all over it.) I ASKED: "I started to ask again, what the max could be and he raised his voice further with, "Ma'am! I already told you!" --- I RESPONDED: Are you really yelling at me right now?! I know you're not yelling at a customer about a quiestion!" and hung up. --- I called back 3 times and there was no answer! I called from my husband's cell and spoke to a guy (when I asked for a manager) who identified as (I believe, Roger?) and he *agreed* "no yelling should have taken place at a customer", didn't apologize; just agreed. --- We had an appointment scheduled for today, Sun., 4/23/23 at 9 am. This same manager guy advised that if the lug nuts are needed, which I was aware they may be, that he could secure them within 15 minutes and advised that my husband and our car would be out of there by 10 am, give or take. I advised that I was not spending $30 on 10 lug nuts (since I was only buying the 10 for the 2 front tires being replaced.) --- Upon arrival, (Claudia) advised that the car would need to be left all day because TWO TECHNICIANS CALLED OUT. I asked why we weren't called and advised the car would need to be left all day after the hour promise and she advised she did not know. (Are there no notes? Are you not the manager to whom these individuals would report and thus, not have a standard operating procedure in place instead of wasting customer's time?! Are no notes taken when you speak to customers!? --- TWO techs out is suspicious for several reasons. --- Highly unprofessional and we will NOT be going to this location for anything. I needed to replace my tire valves because 3 of the caps were corroded. I gave them a call and I was able to come without an appointment. I had to wait about an hour which was more than reasonable since they were a bit busy when I got there. The staff up front and the mechanic were all super friendly and helpful. May 2021: We brought our car in for an oil change and they told us we needed new brakes and rotors and a brake fluid flush. Four days later, the car's brakes completely seize on the highway. We take it back to Mavis and they say it's a transmission problem and they won't fix it. So we take the car elsewhere and learn that the brakes are now destroyed, most likely because of a botched brake fluids change. Thanks, Mavis. Your incompetent $700 brake job somehow magically turned into another $2,500 in damage. Never, ever, ever use these idiots unless you feel like walking. read more

Always friendly and knowledgeable about my Volvo the Mavis shop on Highway 35 is my go/to for quality. They carry many more brands than you are advertised, namely Yokohama for my Summer treads and Nokian Hakkapelitta for the Winter. They carefully inspected my car for winter damage and did a brake inspection as well. I'm impressed and my tire warranty is good at any Mavis shop around. A win win. read more

Made an appointment for 8AM online and confirmed it over the phone. Dropped my car off the night before. No call the next day so I stopped in after 10:30 AM and my car was still in the lot, untouched. The manager said, "Sorry, we got backed up." Took my car and left. What's the point of making an appointment? I stopped going here when it was STS because it was poorly run and thought I'd give the new management a shot. You blew your chance, Mavis. Old adage get what you pay for is prevalent here. Poor quality employees dressed like 2nd time trying to get brakes done. First time was told 10am also booked online, arrived and was told 11-1130. No thanks. Tried again a few days later same result. 2.5 hrs for rear pads!? Tried to upsell for 5-10 minutes ridiculous. Brakes still squeak because of cheap pads used. Never again. read more

Do not go here. Took my car in because I felt there was something wrong with one of my tires. They told me no, I actually needed to have shocks and struts replaced for over $1,700! As an afterthought, they admitted that there was also a nail in one of my tires that they removed/fixed. Wanting another opinion, I brought the car to my regular mechanic. On the way, I noticed that what I felt before while driving had gone away (could it have just been the nail?). As you might have guessed, when my mechanic looked at the vehicle, he let me know that both the shocks and struts were in great shape. He had actually done some work on them not long ago. I ordered the two cheapest tires online as my soon to be junked car needed front tires. The online reservation said to come on down today to have the tires installed for $193. I waited nearly an hour and a half for the tires to be finished being installed. When I went to pay for the tires, I was informed that my total was $215. I informed the manager that I was quoted $193 online and he stated that the disposal fee and tax was not included in my quote (which he is incorrect). I paid the $215, but now regret not arguing further about their deceptive business practices. Avoid the scams here and go somewhere else. read more

I asked him for a reservation # and was told that I did not need one and that my last name was fine. when I walked into the store they suddenly were sold out and was trying to offer me a more expensive tire and spend more money. When there because my car was over heating. They replaced hoses water pump radiator and belts. $900+ and it did not fix the problem. Went to a local repair shop and the told me the problem without even looking at the car . sts said they cpunld not fix the car. No refund for all the parts they changed that did not fix the problem. Now my belts flew off and my harmonic balancer was stripped because the did not pit it on right. Now it cost 290 to fix. They suck I will never go there again even for tires read more

I came here after a really bad experience at two other tire places to get my tres balanced. The first place took a grinder to the inside of my wheel to "make the weights stick better" they are factory rims that are powder coated black. After getting them fixed I tried two more times to get them balanced. The car left the first shop worse than when I started. I tried STS because I drive by it every day. My car was done in 45 minutes and it's like a new car again! I'd definitely recommend them. read more

Kevin was super. We felt a shimmy and called this location. Kevin found the problem - as well as tire damage we didn't know about - and repaired the car on time and at a super price. Even more important, Kevin took the time to listen to my description of the shimmy so he could better diagnose the problem.
