Since moving here, I've been a magnet for nails and have already been to this Pep Boys twice. Each time, the staff has been kind and straightforward. Today, my tire pressure was low but I didn't see a nail. Kenneth checked it out, found no leak, but noticed my wheel was bent. Turns out, the last shop I went to (in San Diego back in August) had placed a patch and wheel weight on the tire side, which caused friction leaks and made my drive wobbly. Kenneth took the time to investigate, repositioned the weight to reduce friction, and even recommended another nearby shop that might have a replacement sooner since I'm driving 10 hours in a few days. He could've just sold me a new tire, but instead he was honest and genuinely helpful. Really appreciated his integrity and care. read more

Finally, after a last ruff winter in Long Beach it was time for all new tires after driving with three used tires. Came in and got helped by David, he was kind and super knowledgeable over the phone, so I knew he was the man for the job. He did find me four great Goodyear tires that will last. He also checked my battery for me along with a few another things just to be sure I'd be on the road back home safely. There was comfy seating, and water was offered. Apparently if you make an appointment here, it won't be honored. I scheduled an appointment for the earliest slot, showed up early, and drop my car off. I was told at the desk that it would be about 45 minutes to an hour for the inspection to be done. I followed along with the link that was sent to me and three hours after I dropped off there wasn't a mechanic assigned to my car. So I come back and my car is still parked where I left it. When my husband went in they couldn't identify where the leak was actually coming from and then said it was a 'gasket' leak. I went on Sunday 5/5 to get my car certified for Lyft. It passed, so I recommended this place to my son. His car is a 2022, they took his car inside, they failed him for windshield wipers that passed a service inspection with the dealer. I wouldn't trust them due to consistency. Wanting rack up a sale. Replacing a 4-month old tire that blew ended up costing $500!?? I had a tire blow, took it to Pep Boys the next day after swapping with the spare. The shop was very busy and I didn't have an appointment but I didn't mind waiting as I didn't have any other options and was taking the day off of work to get the tire fixed. 2+ hours later they got the car in and told me the tire was damaged and wasn't covered under warranty the 60,000 mile warranty even though only 12k miles had been driven since getting the tires new from this shop. An hour later they tell me a couple of the lug nut studs were cross threaded and would require dismantling the brakes and replacing the studs....which would be another $400 on top of the tire. The studs they said were defective were the same studs that were challenging to remove when changing the tire...that they initially installed. I had no problem putting in the lug nuts myself however and did not overtorque them. I believe the shop damaged the studs themselves and jacked up the repair cost. I've called Corporate to file a complaint but have not received a call back. read more

I assumed the diagnostic would tell if it coil, spark plug, or cylinder. No 100 bucks tell it what cylinder and an additional 600 will tell you more. Avoid this bullshit place. read more

Wow is Sunday morning no customers in parking only one customer car inside, went for a Lyft inspection, dude or lady, can't tell, says inspections have to be done by office worker, he/she us the only one so cannot be done because she cant leave the phones alone! I went for an oil change today and the guys were great had a coupon they took it with no problem and I checked out my whole car. I told him one of my backup lights was out they checked the radiator. They checked all the fluids and they told me it would probably be a good idea for me to have a rear end service, that's the oil changed in your differential. I didn't have any of this done because I'm the poorest white man in Oxnard but it was really nice of them and they were great guys. The service writer was Joe and Kenny and they're awesome. I wish I had the money to give them to do the work, anyways I recommend the place highly I've been there before it's a Pep Boys it just a service and put tires on. They don't have a store anymore but I was in and out ....unlike fire stone. They wanted me to sit there for an hour and a half and said they only have two repairman, but didn't bother saying anything to me until I said to them I had an appointment at 9 o'clock. It's 9:30 in my truck still sitting in the same place I parked at and I I said, should I go get something to eat and they said I'm not sure it will be done by the time you get back so I left and drove by Pep Boys and I thought oh yeah that's right these guys do oil changes too and they were great they were really great. Our radiator was spilling out quite a bit so we took it into Pep Boys to get some help. We were charged a fairly significant amount. So we go home everything seemed fine. But the same issue kept popping up. We called them and they said bring it in. We brought it in and it turned out the mechanic forgot to release air from the pipe of the radiator... They told us they could fix it but they would charge us the labor cost to fix their OWN problem that THEY caused! We basically lost an extra $250 on labor for their own error. We were coming here pretty frequently but we took our business elsewhere. Never again. Why hire mechanics who dont do something as basic as releasing air from a pipe? Do yourself a favor, find a different mechanic. read more

I had an older car so I decided not to go to the dealership. I went to Pep Boys for an oil change and when that was done, the mechanic came out and told me I needed new axles. I politely said that I only wanted the oil changed. Then the real pressure by him and whoever was behind the counter began. I repeated that an oil change was that I only the oil change. The guy went back into the shop. The NEXT DAY a very nice gentleman was waiting (while I was in Ralph's) to tell me that my car was leaking from the transmission. I popped the hood and he said "there's the crack". What a coincidence! I guess the guys at Pep Boys thought I would be stupid enough to go back to them for the transmission repair!!! Beware! I went for a lyft inspection. My car didn't pass the first time because I had 2 bad tires , but when Hilary inspect my vehicle she noticed that my vehicle had 2 different sizes of tires . And my vehicle is all wheel drive. And having 2 different sizes of tires can damage my vehicle. I really thankful to Hilary because she save me and my vehicle. While visiting the area I ran over a big screw and had a flat. The father-in-law and I changed the tire alongside the road and headed to the nearest tire repair on google. It sent me to the firestone store down the street where I was told it would be a little more than 2 hours to have someone look at it. They gave me a few other options that may be faster, one being Pep boys. They took about 45 min but did a good job. I was glad they were open on Sunday do we could get back to Vegas. read more

I went here last week to have all four tires on my 2015 Tacoma replaced. They had a good promotion going at the time; buy a complete set, get one tire free, so I thought why not? I could save a few hundred bucks compared to what the dealer was going to charge me. $685 for a brand new set of tires ain't bad at all; compared to the $1000 the dealer was going to charge me. The staff was generally friendly and fairly accommodating, and that's something I can respect. But why did I give a low rating? The tires themselves were great, deserving of a good review on their own. They were installed solidly. BUT, they were not installed properly...As I was driving home after the installation, the tire pressure warning indicator was still on. I figured maybe the sensors were still getting to know the new tires, so I let it go at first. The warning light never went off after that night. I took my truck to the dealer a couple days later. I explained the situation and they got to work on it straight away. They found that the front left sensor had been damaged to the point where it wasn't functioning anymore. I was charged $135 for diagnostics, and $210 for a new sensor, parts, labor, and tax. In total, after the tires and new sensor, I spent $1030, and that's not including all the hassle and frustration. Had I known this was going to happen, I should've just gone straight to the dealer, had it done right the first time, and save myself thirty bucks. Lesson learned. read more

Went in for a patch on my front right tire. This tire isn't new, but it's also not worn enough to be replaced. They wouldn't patch it because it wasn't a brand new tire. This is a silly ploy to get you to buy new tires too soon. I don't blame the individual workers there, but the company sucks for having a policy like that. Pretty lame. read more

I have had many tire and other tire related issues and was given costly information. I purchased a whole set of four tires with roadside and was now told I didn't purchase the roadside warranty. In the past I was told maintenance on my front end would be over $600 for just the tie rod ends on one side. I then came to AV tire and they gave me a quote of $650 for inner and outer tie rod ends and 2 brand new tires labor included. I am extremely disappointed in the service at Pep Boys.
