I called to make an appointment for an oil change for today. I asked for 10 am, but was told that was taken and was offered 11:00. Okay, fine, and I arrived at Pep Boys then. When I asked how long it would take, I was told "an hour and a half" and would be $39.95. Gee, that seemed a long time and a lot of dough for an oil change, but the clerk explained it included rotating the tires. It would be finished at 12:30, which meant I had to scuttle some plans, but I said okay and left to walk to some stores nearby. I came back at 11:52, to see that my car had not moved from where I had left it. (Then why was a given an appointment at that time in the first place?) There is a reason why everyone has given such terrible reviews. Terrible service. I stopped going there after the service department had me waiting forever for an oil change. The worker named Monte had a bit of an attitude. As a business, customers should expect a smile or at least and welcoming vibe when they walk in the door, not a "your making me late for lunch" look on their face. This happened a long time ago, but I reopened my Yelp and came back to leave this review. Wait in line for a $30 oil change and deal with an attitude, I think not! Save your time and money and go elsewhere. Bottom line is this store's administration really needs to regroup and train on how to treat people like people. Maybe then they will get better reviews. Was quoted $1200 for Four Bridgestone tires for a truck, not including installation. It would've made sense, if I was buying expensive tires. The tires were $180 each. Quoted $900 at Firestone for the same tires, including installation and alignment. One other thing that I find troublesome, an increase of lazy employees. There were 8 people waiting at the cash register to buy stuff. The cashier asks a manager for help, he was just standing around with a dumb look on his face and texting. Got some services done on Veteran's Day. Hilari and the gang made several phone calls to me post vehicle drop off simply to communicate really well. Got a new alternator and battery, two new tires and it was all taken care of in the same day. They hooked me up with a decent discount AND gave me a free serpentine belt which I really needed but was not expecting them to replace it out of their own kindness. The employee working the desk (Mister R. Herrera) was top-notch, helpful, informed and professional. However, be warned, if you come to your scheduled Pep Boys appointment (which will cost you $13 and some change) without a blank vehicle-inspection form in-hand you will not receive the service and have to reschedule your appointment. They do not have the forms in-store and cannot print them for you. This is like sitting down for a meal at a restaurant and being asked if you brought your silverware. In my case, I arrived with a blank Lyft vehicle-inspection form only to be told it was not the correct version. Thankfully employee R. Herrera found a creative solution to the problem. REALLY MAD! LIED TO ME! Called and asked for alignment, was told to come in and could get it done fast so I cancelled an appointment I had with FIRESTONE that was later in the day. I arrive (Sunday 8/26/2018) 1:40 pm, was told my vehicle will be getting attended to in 20 minutes and the service should be about an hour. After an hour, I notice my car on an apparatus and it looks like the job is being done. I go look again 20 minutes later and still there, at 3:30, I see people who come in after me getting their vehicles finished. I ask the counter person "Carlos" and find out that the work has not even started! During our conversation he lies to my face trying to explain why the job is taking so long. First he says the job has been started but then a few seconds later says his service person got "stuck" on other things and has NOT started. I ask him to return my car immediately and they act as if they could care less. Great customer service Pep Boys of Oxnard, no apologies, just the feeling of "who needs you as a customer". Well, you will NEVER again see my business (I get oil changes and was planning to purchase new tires from here in a few weeks). I was treated like a "POS". I took my car to pepboys on July/2018 to have its rear brake drums replaced. After the drums were replaced, I took the car for a ride and the rear right drum was noisy when braking. I took the car back to the pepboys and after I got the car back, still the same rear drum/brake was making a noise. Ricardo (manager) took the car and had the drums replaced with another set of new drums. However, the next day the car was making a noise coming from the rear when driving without pressing the breaks. I went back to pepboys and they resurfaced the rear right drum to get rid of the noise, that worked. However, the car was wobbling when reaching speeds of 55-60mph. I went back to pepboys and they told me the wheel rods had to be replaced. I got then replaced, but the wobbling was still there. A couple of engine mounts were also replaced, but that didn't solve the problem. So, I decided to visit another repair shop and after inspecting the brake drums, they recommended replacing them. After the job was done, the car stop wobbling. Problem solved! Do yourself a favor, do not go to pepboys for something that if not fixed properly could put the safety of your family and yourself at risk. I give pepboys one stars just because Ricardo tried to help me but, unfortunately, the mechanics couldn't even detect the problem they caused by installing defective brake drums. First off, I have never had a bad experience at a Pep Boys. That fact stays true today. I have fairly new tires purchased at the Downey Pep Boys. Had a nail that resulted in a flat tire this morning while staying in Channel Islands (on our boat). AAA came and changed it and then brought car to nearest Pep Boys. They were so quick and helpful! I purchased wipers for my car and asked to have it installed. They lagged, there was a lack of communication from the cashier and the repair shop. I had to go twice to speak with the cashier and then to the service manager in order to get it done. I waited initially and notice no one was attentive to take care of the installation before I had to talk to two people. Lack of initiative and communication. read more

I am updating my 2 star review with Pep Boys to a 3 star, this is because when I went back to Pep Boys the manager, his name is Enrique, immediately said that he wants to see my vehicle since I couldn't put into words how upset I was because of what happened the day before. I am only giving them only a 3 star, because when I called them a few hours after I went home the day before, and I was fuming. The person I spoke to over the phone said that it was simply a miscommunication (not sure if it was on my part or theirs, coz I saw the guy scribbling and drawing on the paper, and, I had to repeat a few times) that is why mistakes were made. Mediocre people always comes up with excuses, but people who commits to excellence always proposes a solution and compensates the customer for the trouble, like what Enrique (he fixed the spare tire) did. He proposed a solution and fixed the problem right away, and sent me on my way. I wasn't happy, but he fixed the problem. What I noticed that day, that I was waiting for 4 hours in Pep Boys, is that they have a management problem. I didn't see a manager that day. And if there was a manager, obviously, he wasn't doing his job which is to ensure all employees are gainfully employed. What infuriated me was after the last time I informed them I've been waiting for 4 hours all of a sudden my vehicle was ready. So what does that mean? DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR TO PEP BOYS. PERIOD! IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A GOOD, KNOWLEDGEABLE MECHANIC, YOU WON'T FIND ONE HERE! I moved from the San Fernando Valley to Oxnard a few years ago but I usually take my car to my mechanic in the Valley. He has worked on my cars that I've owned for the past 30 years. One Sunday I noticed the dashboard light for my battery was showing so in this case I needed to bring the car in to the closest mechanic so I chose Pep Boys. I've shopped for parts in their store before so I would give them my business which was a mistake. They told me my alternator also needed replacing and I took their word for it, who knows if it did or not. After waiting 7 hours for my car, which I thought would take only a few minutes to swap out a battery. The entire engine was soaked in fluid. The mechanics disconnected hoses and wiring in the engine. The sunroof and lights inside the car were not working, the brake lights were not working and the fluids in my car kept leaking. After I kept having to refill them especially the coolant, I took my car to my mechanic in the Valley. He told me they disconnected the hose to the radiator and that I was lucky my engine didn't explode on me. Pep Boys charged me close to $800 for all this. My car was in worse shape after their grease monkeys did G-D knows what to my car's engine. To fix the problems they caused to the electrical system and hoses cost me over $1400. F-U Pep Boys! I am considering taking legal action against Pep Boys in small claims court in order to be compensated for the damages they caused. read more

My company brings in our fleet of 6 trucks quite often to get repairs so I thought I might as well bring my audi in when the low oil light came on after about 300 miles into a fresh oil change. They looked at the car said there was no leaks but a tune up should do the trick and audis burn more oil than usual so I tell them go ahead. Ended up paying close to $1k and get my car back, 300 miles later low oil light pops up. I take it back they say audis burn oil naturally its how they operate but the only way to get it tested to see if the oil consumption is more than usual is to get an oil consumption test at the audi dealership. Enrique tells me to make sure I get it in writing that whatever they do it will fix the issue. I laughed and told him "yea I should've done that with you guys" and left upset. I go to audi and they find a leak and fix the issue, of course dealerships are crazy expensive so it was another $1.5k wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't already in the hole $1k from this damn place. Needless to say they lost thousands of dollars because not only will I never come here but either will any of our trucks from our fleet! I had bought tire chains and was not told that there was a 20% restocking fee from the cashier. So I had returned the chains a couple days later and they had told me that there was a sign stating "20% restocking fee" on a tire near the entrance. But the sign was facing a brick wall away from view. Now, if I was told about the 20% restocking fee or seen the sign I would not argue it. Getting some items to clean and fix some small stuff on my car. I walk in know what items I need. So I go to the right location where I should find it and don't seem to see or find it. So I asked the employe and he said it's in another area so I proceed to look. When I got there procced to look for 10 more mins nothing. Ask the same employee and he said "oh go to the front of the store should be there" basically same thing no luck . Seems like this employee didn't know anything about the products or know where anything is. Not surprised this place has bad reviews. My mom made me an appointment to replace a tire. We were gonna be late, and my mom called them to tell them that. They said it was fine, and that they could still take us. I showed up before my parents got there. I told them what my appointment was for, and the guy asked me if my car was all wheel drive. I said yes. He then said he wanted to check to make sure it was( which was kind of weird lol I know my own car, and just told you) He goes to my car, and then tells me they cant take me, because "on all wheel drive you have to replace all tires at the same time". Which is a huge lie! If that were the case they wouldn't have made the appointment for 1 tire in the first place. I get it. We were late. If it set you back, and you didn't want to do the work. TELL US THAT! We called you to let you know we were running late! I live in LA, and wasted 45 minutes driving up here so you guys could lie about why you weren't gonna take me. I work for a company that has a fleet account with pep boys, been going there 12+ yrs, it was awesome service at first, the past experience was not a good one, I had taken my van in for oil change and tire rotation, easy enough I thought, wrong, I drive approx. 60,000 miles a year, the next day my tire light went on, after work went back, they said it was tire pressure, they checked and adjusted it, they said to drive it a few miles the light should go off, 400 miles that day, light still on, went back, they said sensors might have to be reset but too busy to do it at that time, next day, went back, only had one person because the others were at lunch, couldn't do it, next day, went back, too busy, suggested I make an appointment, told them I drive a lot of miles per day and they should just do it now, nope, too busy. went into today on my vacation to get it resoled, talked to the service manager and he said it was a " mechanical" issue that could take 10 minutes to and hour, having this issue be fore when I went back for the same thing they would come out, reset them in a matter of minutes, they didn't even offer to try, I am done with them here in Oxnard, ca. and wont be back, I went down the block to Firestone, talked to Rick, he reset the light in 4 1/2 minutes, SHAME on you Pep Boys read more

Pep boys in Oxnard charged my for an oil change and never changed my oil! I paid for an oil change and the service guy informed me that the plug on my gasket is worn out and that it needs to be replaced. I changed my oil a month later for a smog check and my friend who changed the oil told me that my oil appears like it hasn't been changed for months. This confused me since I just had my oil change just a month ago. That being said, I will never trust Pep boys ever again in Oxnard. So I'm on the road, out of town, and I need a new headlight as mine has burnt out. Go to the local Pep Boys, and of course cannot find anything in their Labyrinth of a store. So I go to the front desk to ask for some assistance. At the counter I encountered a line of people some 7 to 8 deep, waiting on the sole cashier who is on the phone looking up a part for some customer apparently. That's fine, except when that call ended the phone immediately ring again and answered again. Then it rang again and he answered it again. He continues to help these customers on the phone, completely ignoring the now growing line of customers waiting at his front counter. Customers who were now openly griping that if they actually wanted to complete a purchase here, they should have stayed home and called. Still the cashier ignored the line, giving preferential treatment to anyone who called. Eventually the calls stopped, eventually I worked my way through the line of 7/8 people. Eventually I asked my question where to find the light bulb for my car in question. Without checking to see if you had the right parts, without checking to see if it was even in stock, the cashier gave a lazy ham-handed wave in the general direction of any number of random aisles and just said "it's over there, " then ignored me to deal with the next customer. Thank God I waited in line 20 minutes for that. Since Pep Boys obviously had no interest in my business, I left and solved my problem elsewhere, with a company that actually cares when customers take the time to visit their store. I came here to get some oil to do an oil change. My car uses a special oil and I happened to find a tag on the shelf that offered a special of 5 quarts of oil and a filter for 37 dollars. When I brought the oil to the counter the staff member told me that the deal had expired and they would not honor it. Additionally there was not enough oil and they had to order the oil for me which I paid nearly 70 dollars for 5 quarts. The member told me they would call me when it came in. It was suppose to come in on Thursday and I still haven't had a call or text. The gentleman behind the counter didn't seem very knowledgeable and tried to sell me an oil that would have voided my warranty and cause problems with my car. Had our air conditioner on the car checked at Pep Boys today. Montes very professionally informed us about how air conditioners may not cool down the car as quickly as we'd like due to clean air regulations. Of course we want clean air but we also NEED a cool car, especially during a heat wave. He snapped a photo of the thermometer for us when placed in front of the vent. Theses guys are hacks and crooks. They charged $35 for an oil change and the total bill was $135. With no notice, they changed filters and did some other stuff without notice. I didn't even see the filters. Dishonesty is well present and people should not support this! read more
