I made a reservation like a few days before, so I definitely would recommend making one. I'm not sure if they even take walk-ins, but it seemed pretty crowded. I went here a month ago to have a tire plugged. They plugged it one month later it's still leaking stopped off at Mavis who told me that thing was leaking and wanted to replace my tire instead of just fixing it came to Pep Boys to have them fix what they messed up correctly they said they can't fix it and wanted to sell me a new tire. POORLY RUN SHOP! COULDN'T CARE LESS ATTITUDE. Made an appointment for brakes two days prior. Appointment was at 8:00am and I indicated i would be staying for the car. Pep Boys is a joke. This is our second bad experience - first was at a different location - they literally put the tire on backwards. This time, my husband made a 10:30 appointment for an oil change and specified Mobile 1 oil. It took over 2 hours - after a wait time even get started, and they used the wrong oil. At least they charged less because of it. They shouldn't be taking appointments for quick services that they can't even keep. read more

Their services price are significantly higher than the market average, and they will deceive you into adding unnecessary services. To fix a misfire engine shaking issue (we'll assume their diagnosis for now), needed to replaced the spark plugs, and they forced me to add some other services, costing $1700 after so-called discounts, which I paid $1400 (I asked several other shops, even a dealership, for the same issue repair, and the market price doesn't go above $1000). I understand if pep boys has a higher labor cost, and I can even understand charging a bit more when my car couldn't move. But is it not outrageous to charge almost double when they see a young woman who seems to know little about cars bringing in a problematic vehicle? Also, I don't understand why the engine problem occurred after the first time I got an oil change from them; there shouldn't be any connection, right? I don't know if other Pep Boys stores are similarly cheating customers, but I will make sure EVERYONE around me, my neighbors, and colleagues know about my experience. Purchased and had installed, 4 top of the line Michelin tires. Asked for, and was assured, that they were "fresh" tires (recent production dates). Due to tire experts indicating that tire rot concerns possibly starting around 6 years after production date. After installed, needed to check DOT numbers. Discovered that two of the installed tires were old production dates. After much back and forth, Pep Boys changed out the two tires, while telling me that they install new tires with up to 5 years from production dates. This leads to possibly short life of those tires, and potentially dangerous driving conditions. Other issues include that alignments done (both me and person right before me) without consent, and 2 1/2 hour wait to have tires installed, even with appointment on non-busy day. Then spent another hour to have the two tires replaced. Called Pep Boys corporate several times---they only referred my case back to the local store. Promised calls back from "corporate" never happened. BUYER BEWARE. read more

I never had someone try to blatantly rip us off like this. My father and I have been through different car services as there's an inspection coming up. All have stated there's only a wheel alignment issue. Pep boy had a deal for 4 wheels alignment at $90 so we bought our car in. After making us wait hours (even though the lady on the phone said it would be a 45 minute wait), they told us that the front must have hit something so they're going to replace the whole part. (We has a scratch from 5 years ago and never had an issue with this. Seems they noticed and wanted to take advantage). We said no thank you and would only like the wheels correction. They immediately said that it cannot be done unless they fix the front first which will cost us $1500... Obviously, walked away and will never come back. I run over a nail on 46, and was able to make to pep boys. Granted they were closing in 30 mins. The service rep (some young black girl) brushes me off like I was a peasant who bought her room temperature water on a hot July day. She offered no help, did not even make a suggestion of how to fix my problem. Waited in line at the parts and advice section of the store where the gentlemen helped me find what I needed to to back on the road. The girl needs some training. She was on Instagram and not doing her job. You lost me and money. I rather wait on the side of road for AAA during a blizzard than to spend another penny here. read more

I have a normal place I go for getting my cars serviced so this is just about the parts desk. I stopped in on Sunday to buy wipers for my daughter's car. Walked in and checked the 'book' hanging at the end of the aisle and saw that the book only indicated two wipers (for the front) and didn't have anything for the rear wiper. I went to the counter and asked the guy and he looked it up on his computer...he then tells me "they don't make them, we don't have them." So I asked, 'What do you mean they don't make them or have them...where am I supposed to go to get the replacement?" Guy tells me I need to go to the dealer. this sounds like a total load of crap to me so I said "ok thanks" and leave. I step out the door and see that right across the street is an Advanced Auto Parts so I drive over and go inside and ask the same question of the young lady behind the counter. She looks up the car on her computer and she shows me that they have all three blades. She walks over and grabs them for me, I paid and they install them for free in about 90 seconds. I was in the store for less than five minutes. Sorry Pep Boys, your competition clearly one-upped you today...and got a new customer if I need parts again... read more

Take note from your fellow Yelpers. If you're the kind of person who values time, do yourself a favor and bring your car troubles somewhere else. We had Pepboys take a look at our brakes after what they explained to be a quick fix. Hundreds of dollars and 3 days later, we picked up our car only to bring it back the next day for another repair. Dropped it off on a Friday and we had to call them periodically for an update... We were told the car would be ready first thing Sunday morning since they were getting a part Saturday at 6pm. After calling again Sunday close to noon, we were told that the part hadn't come in and they once again assured us they'd call as soon as the car was done. Needless to say, there was no update until we called for the final time Monday afternoon. It "has been ready" and no one decided to notify us. We picked it up Monday evening and will not be returning again. read more

This may not be an issue with this particular location, maybe an issue with Corporate . But unfortunately when i bring in my car, i am told i need to use Full Synthetic Oil because the Pep Boys computer system says so. My car's owners manual clearly states the recommended Oil is 5W-20 and i do not understand why Pep Boys would not eve allow the technicians to use a manufacturer's recommendation but instead need to use their own recommendation which 0 20 and needs to be full Synthetic. read more

I was treated well at this store today. I was given a discount coupon to make up for a small problem I had the last time I had service done there, by a service manager who today no longer works there and I half expected they might not want to honor it. They not only accepted it, they did a great job servicing my car, finished quickly and everyone was very professional and pleasant. Since moving to NJ from another state, I haven't had a set mechanic I feel comfortable with established yet which brought me to Pep Boys. I first came here to fix a flat tire. I had found out I had ran over a nail and the tire could be patched instead of replacing it. I was happy to hear the cost to patch a tire is much lower. They patched it up and I was on my way about $25 later. A few days go by and the exact same tire goes flat AGAIN!! I knew something was up. I couldn't have possibly ran something over again! I was stuck on the side of 287 on my way to work. I called AAA who put my spare tire on and I brought my car back to Pep Boys. After a bit I was told the mechanic didn't properly seal the tire and that's why it was flat. They so blatantly admitted their wrongdoing but didn't apologize for it. I had to take half a personal day (mind you I only get 3 per year) in order to take care of this and it wasn't even my fault!! I wasn't charged of course but still put me in a bad situation with my PTO. Fast forward a few months and I just recently got my oil changed this week. I used their online system to schedule an appt. I called to see how I can apply the 20% off coupon listed on their webpage and I followed all the instructions. I originally checked the box indicating I would be dropping the car off for service. I decided about 20 min before my appointment time I was going to stay and wait for the car. I called to let Pep Boys know my change of plans. I was then told they were in the process of calling me to cancel... 20 minutes before!!! I was just about to leave my house! I was super disappointed they didn't let me know they were backed up a few hours earlier in the day. This could have given me time to schedule elsewhere. I was going back to work the next day and really wanted this taken care of. I called around to 3 other Pep Boys locations who, on such short notice and an hour before closing, couldn't take me. I called back this location to see what could be done. They gave me a voucher for a FREE oil change. This was definitely a nice gesture and I really appreciated this service however, to call just minutes before the appointment is unprofessional. I can see from the consensus of reviews that the staff at this place are unprofessional and the customer service is poor. I share a similar view. Sorry this is a bit long, but worth reading. I hope this helps: One late afternoon, my grandfather was stranded in the cold because his tire popped. The spare is bolted under the car, he had no jack, or proper tool set. He called Pep Boys and they told him they would have a tow truck there within 1 hour. Two hours later he calls me to help him. I tried calling customer service, but my call kept getting looped and in the end they told me it would take 4 hours for a tow which was not guaranteed. We ended up driving the vehicle slowly on the shoulder of rt 46 and pulled into an advance auto store directly across the street from Pep Boys. Parked the car in that lot and drove in my car across the street to pep boys. (it was 2 miles to make a u-turn, and we were worried we would damage the rim). At Pep Boys the manager named Phil said that they would tow the car tomorrow morning to the shop and service the vehicle. Next day I called 9am and they said that they did not have a tow available and it would take 3 hours. At 12pm I called to have a status update, spoke to Phil again and he mentioned it would take another 3 hours. Finally called at 3pm, and he told me the same thing. At that point I called 4 towing companies and found one available within 5 minutes! Got the car towed literally to across the street for $95 with an outside towing service. When we got the car over there it took them another hour and half to put 2 new fresh tires on the vehicle. Not to mention my grandfather almost fell in the parking lot because they did not shovel or plow. In the end they only took $50 off my bill. Now I am not complaining that I didn't get a better discount. I am writing this review to explain the experience my grandfather and I had to go through, which was simply terrible and frustrating. The staff were slow and inefficient, not to mention inappropriate especially how one of them turned around and started flirting with one of the mechanics. Pep boys misdiagnosed a simple oil seal leak on my CV Axle that would have cost under three hundred and replace my Rack and Piñon assembly that cost over a thousand that was fine. I found the Sevices very incompetent as the technician never checked my transmission fluid. They're so incompetent that my brother Inlaw has his oil plug fall out on a basic oil change. This is the second time this particular Pep Boys has gotten me out of a difficult situation that was semi-urgent. 4 years ago my battery gave out and just last night my tire blew. They were great in communication and got me in without a wait 15 minutes before they closed. Omar and Juan were efficient and I was out within 20 min of being there. Could not have asked for a faster or more efficient experience. I think there are 2 moments that define a service, urgency and elective. I have minimal experience in their elective work, but definitely give them 5 stars in their urgent experience. read more

I must have gotten a nail in my tire while I was driving on route 46, so I pulled into Pep Boys. I didn't have the time for them to find the nail, but one of the nicest mechanics, John, offered to put my donut on just so I could get home. No charge! He was sweet and fast and put everything back in my trunk so neatly. He even put a quarter on top that he must have found in my messy trunk (those new canvas shopping bags!). I brought my car in when the engine light was on. I called ahead asking if they would charge a diagnostic fee and was told over the phone by the sales associate they would wave the diagnostics fee if I came in that day. I went to this pep boys only for them to tell me the diagnostics fee would not be waived but they were willing to cut it in half from $100 to $50. I was told with confidence the diagnostics would take one hour and my car would indeed be fixed that day but instead I received a call THREE hours later and was told the fix would cost $1000 (see below for how much my dealer charged me) and the car couldn't be fixed until tomorrow. Due to some inaccurate information that was shared with me on my car, I decided this place wasn't for me. When I arrived back to pep boys and asked to have my car returned to me, the salesman (Jossiell) told me the mechanic marked my car as unsafe to drive and that I needed to have the car fixed at pep boys. I had to escalate to the manager to get my car keys back and then the sales associate tried to charge me $100 for diagnostics. Best part - the dealer only charge me $500 to fix the issue. Note this isn't on the mechanic at pep boys, it's on the sales associate. I brought my SUV in for repair it took them 2 weeks to repair it they charged me 3,500.00. Two weeks later it broke down again and I had it towed back there after it was determined that it was due to their negligence it has been there for over a month and they refuse to repair it under the warranty that I paid extra for. read more

Don't go here unless you have a really simple problem and a LOT of extra money burning a hole in your pocket! I tried using their service department on 2 occasions. The first time they kept the car for most of the day and did ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING and charged me over $90 for a diagnostic fee and then told me that they couldn't figure it out. I took it to another mechanic and they figured out the issues (2 separate problems) in a 3 minute conversation and 2 minutes to verify it. The second time I took something there was to get 2 mounts and a ball joint (all of which I purchased there) pressed into the upper control arm that I took out of my vehicle (this should be a quick process) they asked me for almost as much as my other mechanic (who was closed that day) wanted for the whole job. If I could have waited to have my new mechanic handle it I would have saved a lot of money. read more
