While driving in Pasadena, I noticed my car all of a sudden started shaking and heating up. Since I am not good with cars, I won't even begin to try to explain which valve snapped off. Pep Boys actually didn't have the part to my Mercedes, but Jesus gave it a quick and innovative fix so it would at least be safe to drive until the part came it! This place is a solid 4 in my book. Adam is GREAT. Love that guy. Goes above and beyond. They will beat ANY PRICE by 5%. They even did this for some ridiculously low online price that I found. Tons of coupons too. Look online before going in or just ask them if they have any laying around. They OBDed one of my cars for free too. Just walked out, plugged it in, and told me what was wrong. Can't beat that. As long as you are nice to these guys they will make you happy. I wrote a complimentary letter for one of the dudes when he helped me out in a big way and now I'm treated like gold over there. This location has their repair services located inconveniently near the parking for customers, sometimes even blocking the driveway with cars that are being repaired. The product that I needed, they did not ever carry and do not plan on it. So, if you don't need your car repaired but are looking for other items in the store, I would probably go elsewhere. read more

I have always loved Pep Boys and have recommended to many. When Jeff managed service, everything was exceptional ( now at Temple City). Chris was a top notch customer service guys and was outstanding, but on vacation on my current visit. I am sitting in waiting area now after coming in promptly for my 2:00 appointment. Mario the Sales Manager took care of my husband and I like we were rockstars. Never have I experienced such great customer service. We came in to check on our car battery as we were having an issue starting our car this morning... he ran all the necessary tests and gave us our options. Still even having to get a new battery we walked out with big smiles. Never once did he try to sell us something we didn't need or push us off on another sales person. In the past I would have given them 5 starts but now I reevaluate at 3 stars. They use to offer complimentary instalation service for small items you'd buy like headlights (as long as it was a simple replacement and they weren't too busy) Today I drove 3 cities out of my way to buy from them because of that great customer service perk only to find out that they now charge for that type of 2 minute replacement. I understand thier right to charge for labor but it was easy enough to take the bulb home and use YouTube to do the replacement myself. Nothing at all wrong with this business BUT nothing special either. I will not be going out of my way to purchase items from them again but if I happen to be down the street and need a part I'd be just as happy buy from them as any other auto store. read more

I believe the staff needs to learn better communication skills. When I returned a battery core and when putting it on the counter, the gentleman helping me asked it I needed it tested, I stated it was a core. I pulled the receipt from my pocket, then he tells me "Oh you need to go the the front." not clarifying what I need to go to the front for. I stated oh, the guy told me to come to the back. Then he states for the core refund. Now... It used to be that you return a core, the guy who receives it signed off and then you go to the front. So, he should have stated "You can take your receipt to the front and the cashier will give you the refund. Anyway, that's my only issue. Otherwise I get what I need. read more

Hello fellow car owners I quit going to Jiffy lube and have switched to pep boys I have been going to PB now for about a year for my four cars The quality of service technicians seems extremely variable From a guy who speaks normal English and seems very sharp To an older mechanic that seems to have a physical leg deformity/ handicap who could barely utter two words in English A case in point, I've asked the technician if he had topped off the front engine oil back up reservoir ( which holds maybe 1 or 2 Qt of 5W-30 Oil, on a Toyota previa, as a back up reserve tank He looked at it in amazement ( like he had never seen one before) Took a flash light and tried to look inside of it, even tried to read the label on the plastic reservoir, of which I'm not sure he even understood what it meant. Then he turned to me and said, " it's not oil, It's for engine combustion" I'm like really dude, how long have you been changing oil ? This is like your lwork and you see literally hundreds and hundreds of cars here and you don't know of an oil reservoir tanks in the front? Toyota previa said are mid engine vans. Horrible service. Made an appointment for 1:00pm. Dropped my Jeep Wrangler off at 12:30 for front brakes. They were said they would be done by 5:00pm. Finally got my jeep back at 7:45pm. I purchased the premium brake package which was to include Wagner OEX pads. I later noticed my receipt says they used thermoquiet pads. read more

My mother in law was on her way home when my wife phoned me that she had blown a tire on the 210 freeway and was near Pasadena. I googled and found this Pep Boys on Colorado Blvd near her. I phoned them and they assured me they could help us out. When we got there, Ron was super friendly, I told him I had called ahead and voila, he helped us. Very friendly staff, and while waiting in their customer lounge area, I discovered a new TV show that had me in stitches -- Modern Family. Ron agreed that that's one of his favorite shows as well. I went in to get a bulb changed, my car is tricky so I asked for help removing the cover in the trunk. They not only took their time to remove the bulb but one of the guys found a spare in the back so everything was free of charge. I'm not usually such a harsh critic, but this place deserves it. I fix my own cars and rarely bring them into a shop, simply because it's difficult to find a good honest mechanic. That also means, that when it comes to car repair, I know when someone is trying to screw me, and these guys screwed me big time. They messed up the job, but wouldn't admit to it, wanted to charge me $90 to FIND the problem, didn't find it, then wanted to charge me $140 to find it a different way, didn't find it, and then my spare tire went missing and was apparently stolen, but they said "Sorry, it happens. Have a nice day." So now, 5 days later, I drove home in a much dirtier, poorly running, loud as hell Jeep, missing the spare tire and I'm short $260. They did nothing to fix my problem and gave me 3 more to go home with. No shop should return a car in worse condition than when they received it. Adam is a nice guy, but the attitude of the whole shop remains the same: Get the customer's money, as much of it as possible and hold on to it, no matter what happens. They couldn't even find the old part when I asked for it, but instead gave me one that they found in the trash, that slightly resembles mine. I've learned my lesson. Don't make my mistake. read more

My experience at this location has always been such a relief. The guys here are always warm and helpful. I had an emergency once and they stayed open later to help me out. A second time, my tire went flat and I had to run to school and then work later that day, so Stephen and Gabriel patched up my tire and had me back on the road in less than an hour. Not only did they save me time, but they also saved me big bucks by suggesting a tire patch up instead of buying a brand new tire, which is what I thought I needed. Like my fairy-car-angels! We all know it's hard to find a mechanic you can trust to identify and resolve your issue(s). I usually shop my car around when something is wrong to see if I can a clear cut answer to what the problem is and what it costs to fix it. This time was no different. I initially brought my car in not knowing what the issue was and in less than an hour I was given the exact cause of my problems with other suggested fixes. I was assured that not everything was necessary at the time and was even given an honest list of which ones should be prioritized. They gave me a price quote and even allowed me to shop around before starting the repairs. I called at least 8 places and no one could offer a service that matches or provided better quality than the mechanics did here. My car was repaired in less than 2 hours, I was given an honest price, and extremely friendly service. All of the technicians here were great but, Chris, thank you for taking care of me and my little Honda. read more

I have taken my cars to this Pep Boys on Colorado for many years. The service manager, Jeff, is very knowlegeable and professional. I have had issues with their service occasionally (that's why only 3 stars), but Jeff and his assistant managers (Hector is also good) always worked very hard to make it right. They do value their customers, and earn repeat business by treating people right when they make mistakes. I don't hesitate to recommend them for any type of auto service, because I know they will treat people right. They get very very busy, and I'm sure that is the reason why they seem to make more small mistakes than they should. If they concentrated more on initial quality of work, I would give more stars, but I know it's a trade-off, as they are under a lot of pressure to get cars in and out when the line of people waiting in line stretches out the door. But if they made fewer mistakes, there's be less re-work and more time to get the cars in and out, done right the first time. read more

I'm giving 5 stars because I received excellent and honest customer service starting from my phone call inquiring about the service I needed to the actual visit. I am a petite woman who looks young so I usually feel like an easy target when it comes to mechanics not being honest and trying to oversell me. Rico was the mechanic who worked on my car and he made my experience great! He was patient, friendly, and got the job done. This place is a joke. Let me first start off by saying that this place will rip you off. I had taken my 2011 Kia Forte in for brake service because they had been making a faint squeeking. A tech explained I had to leave the car for inspection. I did. They called me an hour later and strongly suggested that I replace my brake pads and rotors. I asked if they could just replace the pads without the rotors being machined and they said the rotors were below specifications and wouldnt be willing to do the pads without the rotors being replaced. Total would have been almost 200 dollars. Here is the kicker. I opted out of their service and took it to an independent mechanic where I was able to see the brake pads and rotors. The mechanic said there was absolutely nothing wrong with my pads and my rotors and that I had about a good 6 months to a year left on them. In fact, my brake pads where almost as good as new. This goes to show that these service people here at Pep boys only care about one thing. Selling you things you do not need so that they can make whatever commission they make for doing so. I was quite shocked by this particular situation because its like someone telling you that you need a new engine after you just had a new one installed the month before. This place will straight up lie to your face. If you want parts for your car, sure, shop here. I would still do it. But if you need service done on your car dont even bother. Chris and his team are one of the best. I had a strut replacement for my car since it was making a clunking noise. After the replacement, the noise still persisted, but slowly went away as my car adjusted to the new strut. I went to their shop a second time for Chris to check on the struts and he provided more value than I expected by adjusting my brakes correctly as well as performing a diagnosis for any other problems that might exist. A third time I went to Pep Boys was because my mechanic from a different city overfilled my engine during an oil change, which Chris and his team helped removed the excess free of charge. Usually get my oil changed here. Synthetic oil changes come with free tire rotation. Last time I was here they forgot to rotate my tires. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because people forget sometimes. Took it there again to get oil changed and tires rotated again. I marked one tire to make sure they rotated them again. Once again they forgot. Make sure you check your car and that they are doing the service you requested. read more

This Pep Boys is close to my work, so I stop in for basic supplies or questions for easy maintenance I can do at home. I have always found the employees to be courteous and helpful. I needed to replace the battery on the keyless entry for my car, and the employees found the exact battery, replaced it, and tested it at no extra charge all within five minutes. read more

Brought my car in right after Thanksgiving and spent $1100 on maintenance, including replacing the front struts. After the work, one of the front struts was extremely noisy. Brought it back in to figure out what was going on (they warranty their work, right?). Dropped it off on Saturday morning. By Sunday afternoon I haven't gotten so much as a phone call. When I called to find out what was going on, they informed me that NO work had been done. Service with a smile! Can't speak for the garage and it looks like a lot of people speak ill of it.... BUT!!!!!! I wanna tell you about the store! So yeah, a lady walks into Pep Boys and I guess that's an instant alert that they might need help. The guy at the counter greeted me and asked right away if I needed help I told him to point me to the windshield wiper aisle. He told me where it was and then asked the info about my car to make sure I had the info I needed. When I told him the part numbers that I was looking for, he was impressed (hey, i do my homework...plus i was going to buy them online... but the rain came first). Long story short - I went over there and couldn't locate exactly what I was looking for. Mario, the manager, went out to my car to check on if I could use a particular model (which I'm pretty sure he knew I could.. he was just being extra helpful) and then when i didn't find the right version, he looked the product up, didn't see any, came over and dug through the blades and located one of what I needed- YAY!!!! Well I had remarked that the price was a lot higher than what I found online. He told me there was an online coupon that I could apply for 30% off - we rang up the purchase and he applied the coupon - DOUBLE YAY!!! He asked if I wanted him to come out and install the blade, I declined cuz I'm kind of handy and like doing that kind of self-help stuff. This is the worst experience I ever had with customer service. These guys give mechanics a bad name. I will file a Consumer Affairs Complaint this week. I brought my car in over a year ago for intermittent working ac. They charged me $1000 to recharge the air & replace compressor. 3 months later I was back with same problem. They replaced compressor again. Another a few months... same problem. The service manager was rude & tried to tell me the ac was fine. When it happened the 4th time I asked what specifically their ac guy was checking?!? Obviously it wasn't the compressor. Manager said "He checked everything". When I pressed & asked for specifics he said "His English isn't very good, I don't know". Unacceptable and ridiculous answer. The manager was dismissive. I'm guessing because I'm a woman. After a year they replaced a connector & swore it was fixed...3 days later, same problem. No ac. The manager then says he's tracking a part down at a junk yard in Bakersfield, (which he is sure will solve the problem). Ridiculous. At that point I called the district manager & asked for a full refund. They said yes, basically admitting they hadn't been able to fix it. They said it would take 2 weeks...now it's going on a month. I still don't have my $ back, or working ac. The district manager rarely answers my emails only saying "It's processed" but doesn't know when/what the hold up is. He won't answer my questions. There is a saying 'the fish stinks from the head'. This corporation is shameful in their treatment of customers & Women all while providing a lazy quality of work. When I brought my car to my long time mechanic yesterday he showed me Pep Boys hadn't even reconnected my compressor when they returned my car......so that's why no ac AT ALL since I picked it up. (My break pads were squeaking & I thought I needed breaks...he said breaks are fine, they used cheap pads!) If you're a woman don't go in here alone. And know your stuff beforehand. read more

This review is many months delayed. I wanted to write how helpful Mario was in helping me determine the appropriate wind shield wipers for both my cars. I walked aimlessly through the store when Mario quickly asked how he could help. I was pleasantly surprised because I thought I would have to search for help. He picked the appropriate wipers for me and placed one set on my car. He also stated that I could bring in my other car for placement of the wipers if desired. That's what I call service! read more
