On 4/4/15 I came to this location to have a brake light bulb replaced on my 2010 Nissan Versa. The technician (Alex) didn't know how to remove the tail light housing. I saw him struggling so I showed him a "how to video" on YouTube but he was still was having difficulty. Long story short, he cracked the tail light housing. Not a big deal, it was an accident. What is a big deal is that he was untruthful and said the housing was already cracked when I brought in the vehicle. Honesty is important; I won't be supporting this establishment further. read more

Called in to schedule an appointment to replace my timing belt. Over the phone, the rep explained that it was a 6 hour procedure, so I would need to drop by by 9AM for same day delivery. I made the appointment, and brought my car in at 9AM on the scheduled day - but when I arrived, I was told that the mechanic was booked for the day. These things happen; I get it. What irritated me was the guy's attitude - explaining the situation to me as if I made some kind of mistake. I didn't catch the guy's name. Owning your mistakes can go a long way with customers. read more

Took my car in for an alternator. Not a big job... They actually quoted me more then the Dealership. I looked online for the part, and they sold the part in store for less then what they told me. And when I came to pick up my car the next morning (because I came in right at closing), the tow truck guy noticed a screw in the side of my tire! How they actually managed to get a nail on the side is beyond me... unless they intentionally did it. They didn't even have it in the shop. They moved it literally 10 feet from in the middle of the parking lot to a space right next to it. I will never come back to these crooks. I recommend everyone to go elsewhere! Twice tried to set up an appointment for service, once online and once in person. Both times I was met by aggressively rude employees who questioned why I thought I could drop off my car. I eventually got the explanation that they had too much "roll over" -- so basically they don't know how long it takes to do the work they take on. Worst place to take your car!! I took my car in last Tuesday. Spent $2000 dollars on brakes, gasket and tune up. Dropped it off early and didn't see it until the end of the day when I had to call to find out what was up. They said come pick it up, I came, spent half an hour waiting for it to appear because manager was "taking it for a test drive." I don't smoke. Car smelled like smoke, still does. I drive it home, next day car engines rattling badly, I bring it in at lunch time. Leave it and again no call until I call end of day. They haven't looked it but "suspect" it's the transmission belt. Another $2000 the want. They say bring it in Thursday night, manager Luis says they'll help with cost and look at it first thing in the morning. I call back next afternoon, nobody know a thing about my car and no ones looked at it. No mechanic is saying its a look bolt and no explanation for brake squeaking when brakes are brand new!!! What a NIGHTMARE!!! Their corporate office should know. It use to not be so bad when Jeff was there. They've screw my car up and I'm out $2000+. Avoid this place at all costs!!!! They SUCK!!!!!! I had a rather weird experience at Pep Boys in Pasadena. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, so I'll just stick to the facts. Early this week I noticed a strange noise in my car and the Check Engine light was blinking, it seemed like the car wasn't firing on all cylinders. I brought it in for service, and they told me I had to replace all the sparks, some other components and clean the fuel system for about 450$. So far nothing surprising or outrageous, my car is 17 years old so I expected I had to change some parts. Now the weird part: when I went to pick up my car, it wouldn't start, suddenly the battery was dead. --- FYI, until the day before it was working just fine, I never had trouble starting my car, it even endured while the engine was having problems. Also, just a month ago I was on vacation for two weeks, hence my car was parked the whole time, and when I got back I had no problems starting the car. In addition, I know for a fact that the battery was replaced by the previous owner less than 2 years ago--- I asked the Pep Boys staff what was going on and they said they just cleaned the battery from some residuals, so they actually did me a favor and they couldn't have possibly drained/damaged it. At this point they jump started my car, I drove for about 20 minutes (which should be enough to recharge a healthy battery enough to be able to start the car again), I got home, turned off the car and obviously it wouldn't turn on again. The morning after I called road service to jump start it, they told me the battery had gone bad and had to be replaced, so I asked them to do it and had to pay more than 100$. Now, it seems to me too much of a coincidence that the day I bring the car in to fix the engine, my battery decides to die. But even if this were the case, they could have at least given me a call beforehand saying: 'Look, we noticed your battery is no good, so it's better if we replace it'. I think at the very least when you fix a car for a customer, you should try to turn it on first and see if it works !!! Instead, they decided to deliver a car that wasn't starting, without so much as a: 'good luck' and a shoulder shrug (after you pay of course). As for the job on the engine, I can't comment on that, for the time being it seems like everything is fine. This place is definitely ok for an oil change, and maybe it was all just bad luck, but I wouldn't bring it back again for more serious service. That's all folks. read more

Today I went at 5:00 p.m. because the rear breaks were making a noise. The place was pretty much empty. The Service Adviser Jose said that he didn't have anyone to check on it and that I could leave it there overnight and have it checked tomorrow. I told him that I needed the car before noon because of my son's Doctor's appointment. He couldn't even guaranteed that and he needed to know if he had the parts. It was simply a cock and bull story for me to leave the car or bring it the following day so it can sit there the entire day before someone touches it. I usually take my cars for repairs at PepBoys but lately the experience has been the same when they are busy and where there aren't busy at all like today. I went across the street to Firestone at 5:20 by 6:00 they knew what the problem was and replace the rear breaks and rotors by closing time at 7:00 a.m. I'll say that I probably paid a little more than PepBoys but the convenience and the fast service given was worth the extra cost. I think that I am going to start taking my cars somewhere else for service and repairs. Customer service has gone down the drain and these service advisers sometimes treat you like they are doing you a favor. I mean it only took Firestone an hour to get my car up and running in the meantime, with PepBoys it was like we don't have time for you at 5:00 p.m. with all the bays open or you could leave here or bring it the following day and will look at it tomorrow at our convenience. Me think not. This wasn't a exotic car but a pretty straight forward 2006 Ford Expedition so is not like the parts are not available. It was because these lazy bums were pretty much calling it a day, at 5:00, although they close at 8pm. I told the service advisor Jose that I was taking the car across the street to Firestone and he didn't even care. read more

When I arrived, I was told the wait time is 2 hours and my appointment is meaningless. The service advisor did not even bother to check my name or vehicle. I have been going to this Pep Boys for approximately five or six years for all of my oil changes and car maintenance. I always have friendly and helpful service from the service center, which is why I continue to be a returning customer. This winter, I was making a trip to Big Bear and learned I needed chains for my tires, which I had no experience with before. Moe, who works in the store, helped me find the right chains for my car and gave me some advice about how to use them. He exceeded expectations with his help and gave service with a smile. After my boss and I drove to CSULA for an overnight conference, we just wanted to get home Saturday night. Of course I get a screw in my tire, AAA puts on my spare and away we go to look for help. 2 previous businesses were closing and no help. Off to Pep Boys down the road. Mind you I ONLY go to Pep boys on Genesee in San Diego. The gentleman behind the counter tells me 45-minutes to an hour. My boss and I walk across the street for dinner. They are going to seal the tire and we're back on the road to San Diego. It would have been 5 stars if it had been in the time frame I was given. They were done just shy of 2 hours....we just wanted to get home. I was told $10 and then that it was nothing, I tossed the man a $20 for him and crew. Pep Boys on Genesee did my oil change the next day (Sunday). Everything was great, the pinging sound from the tire gauge even stopped. I thank both Pep Boys for their work. read more

I came to this location because my back tire was losing air quickly on a weekly basis. I knew there was a crack or a puncture. When I arrived I was greeted in the office by Chris, one of the managers. His customer service was great from the start. He made me feel completely at ease. He assured me that they'd find the reason for the tire losing air, and if it was repairable he guaranteed the repair would outlast the life of the tire. He said to give the staff about 30 minutes and I went inside to wait. It only took about 15 minutes and Chris came back outside and said they had found the problem. I had a screw in my tire and he even gave me the screw they found inside. It's been a week and my tires air pressure is the same as the day I left. No more air leaking from my tire. They did great work, and I truly appreciated the customer service that Chris provided. I am definitely coming back to this location due to the great service. Thank you! read more

I needed my brakes checked and fixed, if necessary. Generally when you are in this state, you are no better than a lamb being led to the slaughter. I trusted the recommendation of the people at Just Tires to go to Pep Boys if I wanted a truly honest shop. I went in, knowing that the only problem I really had was my front brakes, (the rear brakes were fixed a year ago). So, I left it off and they eventually called me. I was ready for "You need all four brakes and drums and it will be $800". What I got was the truth, just the front brakes. He quoted a price ($360) and I was suitably in shock (even though I knew it would be about this cost) and then he lowered the price by $60 to help me out. They did a great job. One thing I noticed; there always was a long line waiting for help. There is a reason for this: they are honest and reasonably priced, what else could you want. I will only go back there. The men that helped me were professional, caring and extremely thorough. There was one lady in font of me in line that was almost in tears she was so happy. imagine that at the Pep Boys, what a scene. Forget everyone else...GO HERE FIRST. read more

Ok, I will start by saying I really like this place and always take my car here. Notwithstanding this one situation, I will continue to bring my car here because I do believe that they are fair and honest. Having said that I had an experience that was troubling. My catalytic converter needed to be replaced. I was quoted $1200 because it is an expensive part. I found out a few days later from a friend that this part is covered under warranty in California because we have such high smog emissions standards and it is automatically covered until 80K miles (for GM cars, more miles for other brands). My car had 79,400 so I was able to get it for free. Obviously this is something that is known by the industry and I feel like they should have let me know that instead of trying to convince me that the $1200 price tag was the only way to go. I usually don't go to dealers because they charge too much and I feel are less trustworthy than this Pep Boys. So in summation, I will still continue going there and like the place, but this is a blemish on what would have otherwise been a 5 star rating. read more

First of all, this location does NOT honor appointments at all. Their quote is 3 hours no matter what you need done. I heard them tell everyone this same number! When we called to schedule an appointment to put tires on, the guy went on a rant about how appointments just mess up the day for them anyways, etc. They really just want you to leave the car so you're not breathing down their neck and they can take their time. I left the car and a few hours later they called back and told me that they couldn't change the tires without also replacing a few wheel studs and lug nuts. I told them to go ahead.. but later found out they didn't have the ones they needed, so I had to wait another whole day to get my car finished. The next day, I went to get my car, PAID FOR IT, was about to LEAVE, when I decided I should probably check the tires just to be sure. There were lug nuts MISSING all over the place and they were going to let me leave like that!!! It was unsafe and dishonest! Completely ridiculous. I honestly think it's because I was by myself (a young, twenty something girl) and they didn't think I would even check. I even talked with them when I was checking out and asked a lot of questions about what had been done. They never mentioned anything about "still needing to put some of the nuts on", but when I came back (pretty annoyed) and let them know that pieces were missing they pretended that they were planning on putting them on and just hadn't gotten to it! WHY were they going to let me leave then!? This place is either incredibly unorganized, or they are seriously sketchy. Either way.. Got a great deal on the Pep Boys website on a set of tires and set up an appointment online as well to have them installed at this location. Even though they were very busy when I arrived, they took my car at my appointment time. The installation took just slightly less time than what they estimated when I checked in. The MAIN reason I am giving this location 5 stars is because of the parts manager MARIO. I continually return to Pep Boys because of the service that this particular employee provides. I've bought many products from Pep Boys including but not limited to all four tires, breaks and pads, and most recently a vehicle speed sensor. I take pride in being a female in my early 20s and knowing what's going on under the hood of my 98 honda civic, but when it came time to replace my VSS, I was faced with several different parts all being a VSS and none with any real differences that can be distinguished through pictures. Mario was kind enough to order every piece from california to indiana to try and find the matching one. I am currently waiting on every part to arrive so I can match it to mine. All in all, he has been extremely patient, helpful, and attentive. You're gonna spend money no matter where you go, but it feels better when you get quality service like the type given by Mario at this location. Thanks! read more

I don't leave reviews unless I feel strongly about it. This PepBoys experience was awful! To put it short. Don't come here. Not even for basic routine service like oil change and tire rotation. The 2 -2.5 hr wait became 3.5 hrs and then we had to come back to have them fix what they screwed up so add another hour. They rotated the tires without checking the air pressure (who does that?!). They spilled about half quart of oil and didn't replace the amount spilled or clean it up (we were breathing lots of oil smoke as we drove!). They didn't replace the skid plate correct and it was rubbing on the ground! Ridiculous. To top it all off, the employees and managers were rude and unapologetic when we returned the car and asked them to fix their mistakes. read more

Worst customer service! Went in at 11:55 am on a Sunday for 1 new tire installation. Matthew told us to come back at 1:30pm. Really?? 1.5 hr to install 1 new tire?? Went in because my tire got a flat all of a sudden. I greatly appreciate they were to fit me in their schedule for that day but the service is horrible. They only have one person manning the desk and they move at a glacial pace not asking for assistance or letting guests know they will get to them. Finally another individual cafe front the repair area to assist with my tire but even he didn't know much than his job. He didn't know what tires I had, which at a car place, I would assume they know about cars and their accessories because they sell them. Then he took my card, I thought it was to pay but I not sure what it was for because he didn't explain it. Then when I came back to pick up my car the same glacial agent at the front said I didn't pay when I thought I did because the first agent told me to insert my card in the chip reader. So as a customer that doesn't know what is going on, thought I was double paying. Does no one know how to explain processes?!? That same glacial agent said he closed the registers on the repair said when the Place wasn't even closed!! Why do you do that?!! It's common sense to tell your customers what is going on when they think they are paying twice instead of saying you didn't pay! Is it that hard? read more

I've been coming to Jeff, Chris and the staff for over 5 years and they have helped me and friends of mine out time and again. They don't "Talk Down" to women, will show you how to install a light or fuse, work with you when money is tight and go the extra mile! I wish I could share the same service experience. Yesterday, I made an appointment for an oil change. I showed up at the appointed time and they checked me in without further ado. Over an hour later, I asked how much longer it would be on my oil change. I was informed that a guy had walked in after me (no appointment) and complained about having to get his son to t-ball or something. They pushed him and another gentleman who walked in ahead of me without so much of an apology as to not keeping my appointment time. I am a single parent who had been at work since 7:30 a.m. and needed to get to my daughter. They did not care to ask nor did they care to inform me my appointment time was no longer possible and could I come at another time. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! read more

I got screwed by another garage "Precision Motorsports" in Burbank, Ca. I came to Pep boys to find out what was really going on with my car and they did! I got the car back on the same day and it was perfect. I will be going here for all of my car issues from here on out. I highly recommend. Don't trust local garages, Pep boys is a change and a corporation. They figure out what is wrong with your car and fix it. They don't create more problems in order to get the most money from you as possible.
