F this location, and probably all pep boys locations in general. I was in a jam, flat tire. Said tire refused to hold air and couldn't drive the extra distance safely to get to my trusted mechanic in Burbank. Let's just say it was a terrible day in which nothing went right, lol. Against my better judgement, as it was closest to where I was at the time, I took my car to PB. So on to the important details, I wanted them to just look at the tire and try to fix it long enough to get over to Burbank. I walked over to Michaels as I needed some stuff for a project with my kiddo. I waited for what felt like forever and finally got a call, I had expected them to say they had fixed it and it was ready to come pick it up. Nope they said I needed new tires. Prior to taking my car to them I did the tread test with a penny, so I know I did not need new tires. Lo and behold, they said I needed three new tires, and was basically saying he wasn't going to release the car to me unless i went forward with the replacements. I was in a hurry and told them to do all four and to put the leaking tire in the trunk and to place my spare in the backseat. They did none of what I asked, and only replaced three tires. On top of that they charged me a crazy over the top rate for tires. If they had done all four like i requested it would have been cheaper as a package deal. I wouldn't doubt that they rip evyone off. I DO NOT TRUST these guys, they were not professional, talked to me like an idiot, and made me feel really uncomfortable. I would never recommend this place to anyone, even my worst enemy. Oh and the cherry on the sh*t sundae? When i finally obliged had them do the work and left, two hours later, there was something hanging off my car, resulting in my having to return to PB. The attitude from them was heinous. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with. In a nutshell, avoid this business at all costs. The Pep Boys location in Pasadena is my go to place to get my car serviced. I used to go to the one in Temple City but then that location is no longer around. There were a couple times when I was in a bind and the team here at the Pasadena location was great. I'm able to set appointments online and so typically that expedites the process a little easier and they are expecting me to show up during that time. I haven't got my car serviced during Covid times so I'm not sure how that process is like now. But I did go into the retail shop portion to get a few things a couple days ago. The store itself is a decent size but it's not huge. All the aisles are nicely available so you know where to go or go find what you're looking for. There's a lot of fun accessories and different things that I was tempted to purchase. There isn't much to do in the area if you're waiting for your car to get serviced. In the past I've walked over to Michael's, but otherwise you're kind of on your own. It's fairly standard here. Make sure you find out what your ETA is here in case you come here for service. Sometimes it can be fast but sometimes you could get stuck. You're able to book your times online beforehand so that should make it a bit easier. read more

Very unprofessional. I scheduled my appointment for a oil change through Caradvise and upon checking in, the man at the front desk told me they didn't accept Caradvise anymore and that I would need to go to a Firestone or something. I said what? Why would they accept my booking then? He said I'm not sure and THEN asks someone if they do in fact still work with Caradvise. One of the technicians said "yeah foo". Didn't apologize. Not only was this guy at the counter (who I later found out is the service manager Isaac) dressed like he's going out with his friends (baggy jeans and a t-shirt) he also spoke like he was hanging out with his friends. It made me feel very uncomfortable. They told me it would take 1 hour- an hour and a half. I said ok I'll be back. After an hour I started receiving requests to do my brakes. I declined FOUR TIMES. Then I got a call from Issac who said my brakes were so bad and they absolutely needed to be replaced. I said ok I am getting them done but somewhere else. He said well I can't let you leave like that. You're going to have to call a tow truck because it's a safety issue. I said I'm walking in right now. Now I don't know much about brakes so I called my husband. He told me to take pictures and send them to him. They took me to my car so I could take pictures. I asked the mechanic to explain to me the situation and put my husband on speaker so he could hear. The guy literally said uh... uh.. uh.. uh.. and talked so low that my husband couldn't hear. I went back to the manager and he said I'll just make a note. ALL OF A SUDDEN. What happened to I can't let you leave??? They really tried to pressure me into doing my brakes. On top of all this, they hadn't even started doing my oil change so I sat there for another hour. Which turned into 3 hours for a damn oil change. I will never come back here. read more

I brought my car to Pep Boys in December to change my headlight, fast forward to March, my headlight burns out again. I bring it back to Pep Boys. They inform me that I would have to pay for the replacement because there is only a 30 day guarantee on the headlights. At this stage, I'm pretty sure it's an electrical problem so I ask them to double check if it's the same headlight as last time before I pay to replace it when I might need to check the electrical system as well. "Can't confirm, the technician didn't leave a note as to which headlight we changed last time." The wild incompetence is so astounding. I left and will find another mechanic. If they can't do something as basic as that, why would I trust them with anything else? I had been taking my car there for years for everything from oil changes to new brakes, but oh well. read more

This is for the Pep Boys, Monrovia, Ca. Made an appointment for 8:30 AM to replace brakes as I will need my car back by 4:30 PM. No call back until almost 11:00 as to what's needed to be done.I was told it will only take about 2-3 hours and they will update me. They texted me tracker app that states pick up time as 6:00 PM. I tried to call but person who answered couldn't give me info and doesn't know what's going on. Had to change all my errands and plans for the afternoon. Finally I called at 5:30 and manager Cesar said it will be ready at 7:00 PM. Very smug and rude - no explanation or apologies. I get there 10 min to 7 and car not ready. By 7 PM, manager left and staff that stayed says 15 more min. I tried to ask what's happening and says parts came in late and rudely quiped that it's better to just wait now than to come back the next day. Finally ready 45 min later. Tracker app that they texted me didn't get any updates until I got my car. Staff needs to attend Customer Relations training. read more

We unfortunately picked up a nail in our tire during the rain and called ahead. The woman on the phone told us we had an appointment at 6 PM and that the repair would take about 30 minutes. We verified the address with her and made our way over there. We arrived at 5:57, but the man at the counter was incredibly rude. He said, "What the f*** do you want me to do in four minutes?" When we tried to explain that the operator told us to come and even tried to show our confirmation text, he just shut the door in our faces and walked away. Thankfully, there was a Firestone across the street with genuinely kind staff who helped us out. Really straightforward about timeframe very efficient and good work. This was out of my usual area and I was presently surprised.

Honestly the workers here are the rudest people I have ever encountered. It's like they do not like their jobs. I went to this location to try to get my tire patched up. They said the tire couldn't be fixed and that my only option was to get a new tire, they were going to charge me $250 for a new tire with labor and then they tried adding services I didn't even ask for and said it would cost me over $550. Which by the way I know I didn't need because I had just taken my car to get those services taken care of. I then took my car to another small tire shop (Chuy's tires on Lincoln) and they were able to fix my tire in less than 20 mins for $20! So they are not honest at this Pep Boys. All they want is to over charge you for things you don't need! read more

The person at the counter told me the driver's side door would not open (due to a previous car accident) and he would not allow his mechanics to enter and exit through the passenger side door. Don't bother going here if you expect them to do work. I literally walked in there to ask if you patch tires. First thing he said to me...we don't patch tires on cars like yours!? I have an SUV...which is interesting cause there was the same model SUV as mine being worked on!? Then proceeded to start making a bunch of excuses why and assumptions...oh those are after mkt rims (which they are but are the same size tires as OEM). Which if he came around the counter outside to look at the tire would have discovered it was the same size tire. (Understandably if there was a line of people, but I was the only person there.) But why does the rim have to do with me asking about patching a tire...you're a tire shop? Then he assumed they were low profile tires, which they weren't and were not run flat tires, another excuse why he couldn't do it. All excuses, which he would have figured out he was incorrect if he came outside to look at the tire. Basically didn't want to do any work and made every excuse for me to just leave and go somewhere else. Man what's happening to this world people just don't want to help out. Or even just customer service. Don't even offer a solution...pretty much just leave, don't bother me. Make someone else do the work! Before people use to do patches for free or even a small nominal fee just so you might return as a customer someday. With that response/experience why would I ever want to go back to give them any business. Let alone trust their work quality!? ***Appreciate the prompt response from corporate at least someone is doing their job. Unfortunately there is not a solution to correct this. Do not bring your vehicles here. The mechanics have proven to be unreliable; we've taken our truck to them three times, each visit costing over $1,500. Unfortunately, all three attempts to fix a leak were unsuccessful. Since coming to them, our truck has experienced multiple breakdowns and overheating issues. Even after their most recent repair on Monday, 11/6/23, the problem persists. It's apparent that their services have exacerbated the issue. I recommend seeking another service provider if you value your time and money unfortunately we don't have a choice but to bring it back since we just made the expense for the third time but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

We're in town just for the weekend And our tire exploded after hitting a curb. We didn't know where to go. Every shop was closed almost because it was 5:30 p.m. on a Friday. This pep boys was open and I called and the guy was super friendly and said that he wasn't sure that he'd be able to fix it today but to bring it by. So by the time the tow got there and everything it was like 6:45. By the time we pulled into pep boys. The guy was there and he was so friendly and nice. they didn't have The tire in stock but he was able to give me a quote on how much it would be and told me it would be ready by about 10:30. The next day. It was ready on time and for $205 (including new tire, alignment and service) we were on our way. So thankful. Great service. read more

Since I live in the area. This is my go to for quick oil change and wheel alignment. I've been going to this location for more than 15yrs. Before covid pep boys was also a parts warehouse. I usually buy fluids such as oil, transmission fluid and power steering fluid. The service I had was a little more expensive than other local specialized auto repair shops. I only came here because it was convenient and they were available. I would recommend coming here for tire replacement and simple car repairs. It's because I usually go to a specialist for my European cars. Staff: they are friendly and professional. They're knowledgeable of most general automotive cars. Location: it's on Colorado Blvd and mar Vista Ave. Can miss it, since it's on a major road. The shop is clean and plenty of parking. Conclusion: for general automotive needs I highly recommend them. The reason why I only have 3/5 stars is that when it comes to larger parts replacement in my experience it's cheaper to go to your local independent automotive shop. In my case I own a bmw and Mercedes. Changing motor mounts cost 750-800 at pep boys vs my local independent Mercedes and bmw they only charge 400-500$. Other than that, they are super courteous and have a clean shop. Come by for your general automotive needs. read more

Replaced my water pump there. They charged me 1100 for the water pump replacement and 400 for the thermostats. On top of that, they charged me 200 for the extended warranty. After the replacement, my engine light is still on. The OBD II code says multiple cylinder misfiring. The problem is not fixed. Basically, they did not run the diagnosis and sold me a water pump and thermostat replacement that I don't necessarily need for 1700 dollars. FYI, water pump replacement usually costs 800 dollars. Now, I have to find another auto shop to solve the problem. read more

STAY AWAY!!!!!! SELLS OLD TIRES AND DOESNT MOUNT TIRES CORRECTLY *OUTSIDE* MEANS MOUNT THAT FACE OF THE TIRE OUTSIDE!! I got 4 new kumho tires installed in may 2020. Everything was fine until today, I got a flat (ended up being corrosion on the rim) no big deal I got it sorted out at a local shop. HOWEVER, the biggest issue is that tire was installed INCORRECTLY! The tire is noted "outside" they mounted this one tire inside out and the "outside" labeling was facing inside! (See picture). Horrible! Clearly tire manufacturers label tires that way for specific purposes, luckily no harm unless it damaged the internals or longevity of the tire. (My tires are staggered so no one checks specifically for the outside labeling or rotates them). Not only this BUT, I noticed cracking on the tires as if they're old and rotting, the tire shop who helped me today showed me the date on the tires; they were TWO years old sitting in their shop I assume prior to me purchasing them. Pep boys literally installed 2 year old tires on my car and now the life of the tire has decreased by two years- tires are supposed to be replaced every 5 years or so, I'm only getting 3 years out of them. MESSED UP! (Since I don't put a lot of miles on this car the tires won't even wear down to need replacing prior to the dry rot that is already happening). STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION, and possibly all pep boys if they are not paying attention to how tires should be mounted and the fact that they're selling two year old tires for top dollar. So upset! I will not contact your social email, you can contact us upset customers through a private message on Yelp if you really cared. So stop telling upset customers to email you. I was just dropping off my husband to pick-up his car after getting his tires replaced & as I was leaving EDGAR waved me down and said "Your front tire is low ..let me fill it for you". He then proceeded to check the rest of my tires to make sure there was sufficient air in them. Totally unexpected but this act of kindness was beyond appreciated! I tried to tip him but he declined my offer. My son was in the car w/ me & I am so glad he was able to witness such a genuine act of human kindness. I'm sick and tired of all these so called brick and mortar establishments that think they can treat people like any way they please. First things first learn math before you become a manager. Edgardo the proud manager who had trouble calculating %20 could use a little bit of retraining. Just saying. Especially with that chip on his shoulder. You're told your car is going to take 2-3 hours depending on when you drop your car or how much work is ahead of you. Makes you almost not want to take it to a place that just complains about having work. Once dropped off approx 1 hour in you'll receive a call about tires, brakes, air filters etc that needs to be fixed on your car. Then you don't even receive a call to when the car is done. Outstanding! Way to go pep boys! Now I know not to bring it to this scummy location anymore! Disclaimer! I paid for full synthetic oil. They still put 3000 miles on my top left windshield. Full synthetic oil usually lasts around 5000-7000 miles. Their 3000 mile gimmick is a complete joke, if you bring it up they will say bring it back we'll put a new sticker, or that it's the recommend mileage they need to put. Good one. read more

I was waiting for my car one day and she called the cops however , i never did find out why she called the cops. i saw one of the mechanics talking to the cops pointing at me, referring to me in a bad way. Again, i did not know why they were called. That lady has mental issues with some kind of episode and the mechanic validated for her. The mechanic is an unprofessional A*******. Anyway, they fixed my car and i drove off and cops couldn't do anything because nothing was done. LOL.. .. I called Pep Boys last friday & asked if they have the auxiliary battery for the 2014 MBZ E350. The gentleman on the phone said they have it in stock... so I made an appt for the next day. When I arrived... I told the lady behind the service counter that I need a replacement for the auxiliary battery. She drove the car up to the service area... popped the hood open... and checked my battery & said I need a new one. I showed her a pic of the message on my dashboard. It clearly said auxiliary battery. She tells me that unless I have a hybrid... my car only has one battery. She calls over another female mechanic (I did not get her name).... and she agreed with Noemi saying my car only has one battery. And she said the same thing... that I just need a new battery & they quoted me $229.93 for the new battery & installation. I didn't believe them & decided to google auxiliary battery E350 on my iphone... and it said the auxiliary battery is in the trunk next to the spare tire. I opened my trunk & sure enough... found the auxiliary battery. I showed Noemi... and without looking at the model of the battery... she just said that they don't have that battery in stock. Not that I would even consider leaving my car for them to touch after learning that these clowns know nothing about cars! I walked in to the place no one is doing anything and it's now our second time coming back in since we initially bought our tire to be replaced. We came in and replaced all four tires. Drove away and the PSI that should be maxed at 36 was at 42. When we came in it was a week later because our back left tire was now at 26. My wife brought it back to have it fixed and let them know the PSI was high on all the other tires as well. They blamed us for the tire pressure and didn't fix it. They said they could not find a fix so did nothing to the tire. My wife comes back to get the car to only find that there was nothing done to the tire and it was still flat at a PSI of 26. My wife then had to tell them that we had the insurance on the tires so they need to still fix it. She waited for three hours more and they only fixed the one tire. We went on a week of vacation and then by the weekend the back left tire is down to a PSI of 26 again. So I now have to go back to have the same tire worked on again. The clerk tells me that they have to check for a leak and that would be a half hour wait and then it could be more time if they can't fix the tire. I told them that it was now our second time in for this tire in less than a month and want the tire replaced, he gives me push back but ultimately calls a supervisor and gets the approval. So I'm waiting and half hour goes by nothing has changed about the car cause I can see it. The clerk come back and tells me I will owe $62 for the new insurance. For a defective tire that would have been replaced had I not had the insurance. Once I get the refund on the insurance I will never come back to this company. So sad because I have been a costumer for decades. read more

Tried to charge me $568 for labor because and I quote "they have to remove the intake manifold to get to my thermostat" I took it to auto zone down the street got the parts for which they were charging $80.98, got it for $25 along with some sodas, took the intake manifold off in less than 5 minutes since it's two screws then took the thermostat out myself. Only took 35 minutes, and they charged me over $400 for labor. Hence $400 an hour for them to do the bare minimum. I hope you guys read the reviews and see that a woman with bare minimum car knowledge can do your job better. The guy at the front desk says they are fully booked and to come back another day. Well, my tire will not hold up and I asks if there's any other place nearby and he said to try across the street at Firestone. As such I am glad I went... Firestone was the absolute PRO and took me in without question even though they were busy. Travis at the front desk booked me as soon as he was done with other customers, and as I waited they've completely patched and repaired my tire. As I was ready to pay when done, Travis said "we don't charge". A life-saver and a true professional he was as my girlfriend needed to drive the car on her usual long commutes starting Monday. read more
