You bring it in for one thing and they try and convince you that your car needs more repairs than it does. I speak from experience and from being a former mechanic. read more

Bad experience. Took my car here with an appointment at 9am to get an issue looked at. At first they stated it would be $99 to diagnose the issue, and then when they finally called me at 3pm they stated my computer system is a little more difficult and it would be $199. I did not hear anything until 5pm that night when they told me that there was a huge problem, that would cost $1,900 in labor alone and that doesn't include the part they need. Took the car to the dealer this week and they told me everything looks totally fine and no repairs are necessary and all they had to do is reset the computer system. Won't be back. read more

My tire blew out because all the roads in this area are trash. Philadelphia. I run into this every time I buy one of these little Mitsubishis or Hyandais. NO ONE STOCKS THESE TIRE SIZES. I called 8 places. Thankfully the 7th place gave me the number for this Pep Boys. I called and they said yeah we got them. So I was like when can I get them done? He said anytime just bring it over. So I took a personal day and hopped in the SUV. I came over and they took the car in almost immediately. Not to mention they were $100 cheaper than the other spots that were willing to order the tire for me. So my impatient attitude worked out for once. While waiting for my vehicle I perused the aisles in search of wiper blades. I heard someone behind me ask if "you" have starter kits. I didn't turn around until I realized the guy was talking to me. So he repeated the question. I said I didn't work there and he apologized and pointed at his collar. Insinuating that since I'm wearing a polo I work here. But I don't think Pep Boys employees wear polos. It took a little over an hour. I couldn't have done it without the boys today. read more

We live directly down from this Pep Boys location so we use this on a regular basis. We've had our vehicles regular servicing done there, we frequent the store for our shopping needs and most importantly we've had our tow service provided by Pep Boys as well. I'm giving them a five star rating for several reasons, the biggest one being that they have developed a great rapport with my family since coming to know them so they are super helpful, they're honest when they can't work on something due to it being specialized by the maker, and they've even given recommendations on places that may be able to assist with a car need that they can't do the work. They're conveniently located in the northwest area of Philadelphia, and their team is friendly and quick to answer phone calls as well as helping the in person customer. I called them on a Friday to buy a new tire and have it installed. The guy told me to just come in, no appointment needed. I went in around 9am Saturday morning. No one was at the desk. I went over to the garage and there were 4 guys doing nothing. No cars in any of the bays. I knocked on the glass. A guy came over and asked if I had an appointment. I said I called yesterday and was told I didn't need one. I asked if they could install a tire. They said it would be "hours." Walked out, called BJ's from the parking lot. Drove there, had it fixed in 30 minutes. Save yourself some time. Go to BJs. read more

I had an appointment for an oil change and a tire and brake check for 8am today and dropped it off last evening. I work 2 jobs so it's a big deal for me to arrange this time . I got a text telling me the car was ready this morning and took an Uber to pick it up. When I went to pay I asked him about the tires and brakes. He said the tires were fine but they only check the brakes when asked. The guy who did my intake was there and said he forgot to put it down. If I wanted them checked I could wait 2 hours. The whole idea was to drop it off and pick it up when it was done. Waiting 2 hours defeated the whole idea. Now I have to start all over again, and have to find another day off, while I'm driving a car that needs brakes. It's frustrating and I'm disgusted. I won't be bringing my car back here. read more

I don't know why I keep trying to take my car here. I called yesterday for an oil change and he told me they were full on appointments but if I could drop my car off in the morning they'd get to it by the end of the day or early the next day. I had my husband and young child meet me there to do that and the guy then insisted that's not a thing and the person who told me that "mustn't have known how busy they were..." despite knowing they were booked on appointments. The last time I went, I went back to inquire about a service and they were so rude- seemed so offended that I would ask about their work and inconvenienced to have to answer my one question. Remembering my less than stellar experience last year, this Pep Boys is still the most convenient place to my house to get my inspection done with weekend hours. So decided to give it another shot. Not a single problem at all this time! Glad I came back, last year must've been a fluke or just a bad day! Had an appointment at 9am and at almost 10am on the dot, service guy came to go over a few suggested (not required) maintenance items. I added in a new air filter and was out the door in another 15ish minutes. Altogether, I got my inspections, oil change, and new air filter. Prices were definitely still reasonable. Service guy was very nice and friendly as well. Seriously, not a single issue this time around! Very glad to have had a great experience this time! read more

These guys are so nice. Fast, efficient and friendly. They never try to pull one over on me because I don't know anything about cars. I went in because my car was rattling after a snow storm and turns out I knocked a screw out of the exhaust shield. They just replaced it for me, tightened everything up and sent me on my way within 20 minutes of my appointment start time. No BS with these guys! Love! read more

I have to give it to these guys, the manager took a terrible experience and completely turned it around. I brought my 2003 Toyota Camry in for a simple set of new tires and an alignment. I schedule an appointment. Went above and beyond to be prepared on my end. I received a phone call about 2 hours later. When the vehicle was set to be done. They said that the vehicle needed almost $900 worth of extra work. I was very upset by this and was just trying to get new tires. I said ok and kept getting the run around. They complete almost all of the work. I had to wait and pick my vehicle the next day. Not sure if I got screwed over or not but they kept the price affordable allowed me to use a coupon and really made the situation better with the managers customer service. I would trust these guys to look at my vehicle again. Just communicate in advance. read more

When I moved to Philly I ended up having car trouble within the first couple of months and ended up on the side of the road with a flat tire. With the help of AAA, my car was towed to Pep Boys. There I got new tires (all four because they were way passed due to be replaced). The service was great and the new tires were put on in a jiff. Fast forward almost a year and a half I found that my back tire kept leaking air. I brought it in and they told me my warranty lasts the life of the tire! So they serviced my car for free and the tire no longer leaks. I was pretty happy about that and will definitely consider coming back for my next set of tires. Glazing over the amount of unnecessary "sweetheart's" and "hon's" I got, I brought my car in for an oil change. A quick, $30 oil change. Right? They come out and say, oh btw we recommend you also get -two new tires -windshield wipers -air filter -steering alignment So that'll be $300 please. HMMMM. I said, an alignment? You just aligned them 6 weeks ago (had this done, same location, in November) They said oh, well just recommend it. I said, is it really in need of a realignment? He said, I don't know. I said "can't you tell?" he said no. Hmmm so if you can't tell how do you know I need this $80 service? Just wondering. For the record, I take good care of my car and it has less than 25K miles on it, the filter is fine, the wipers work well, just had them on yesterday and there they were, wiping their little hearts out. The tires, as soon as I got home I checked the treads and they totally passed the penny test. Sadly, it's sad to see people so at peace with trying to prey on a young girl because they assume I'm uninformed. read more

Yes, this version of pep-boys should get a minus-ten stars!! I'll tell you a funny story: I just landed in Philadelphia. My car shipped in before i got to Philly. Collected my car and realized D'oh, it was not running!!! Unfortunately, I had seen this Pep-Boys and called up a tow-truck to tow my car to this place. Then, the tow-truck driver asked me if I was really serious about getting my car towed to this place?!!! I told him I dont know any better and I just landed here. He didnt help me by offering an alternative. So, got car towed to this place. They barked at me for showing up on a saturday afternoon. Then said my car may be ready by monday. (they dont even know what was going on with the car). i tried calling on Sunday, but was pretty much told to buzz off. On monday, they gave me my car back...charged 100bucks for "diagnostic"... I drive off, then next day, car dies in some mall while I am trying to get basic supplies!! By then, I knew better and took my car elsewhere and got it fixed much better. Stupid Pep_boys did not pick up a major defect!! IT could have been very bad news for me....luckily for the other mechanics. Folks, please avoid this place like a plague!! Shame on me. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... yeah. Despite a rather disastrous, unpleasant experience here previously, I decided to give them another shot. After all, they are a short bus ride to and from my house, so I don't need to bum a ride to drop off or pick up. That's about the ONLY thing this place has going for it. Let's go through my list of complaints: 1) THEY NEVER CALL YOU. Seriously, they just don't do it. I left my car there for nearly 2 weeks, and they never once called me to update me or return my calls. I would call, get no info and a promise of a call back. Never happened. 2) Maybe their phones don't work there to make outgoing calls, because it seemed like they never actually called a parts supplier to get the parts to repair my car. My car sat there for nearly 2 weeks and they NEVER GOT THE PARTS! Any of them! 3) They parked my car under a pine tree that covered it in sap. Thanks, jerks. 4) They were ready to charge me for a new window regulator when my new mechanic tells me he can fix the driver's window with glue. I'm convinced they never actually looked inside my car door to see what the problem was. They were ready to go for the top shelf item to gouge me. Bastards. At least when I got fed up this time and went to get my car to take it someplace eles, they didn't charge me. Even the manager said he understood why I wanted to take it someplace else. So, if you love taking the bus to work for weeks on end, this is a perfect place to take your broken car. Just buy lots of bus tokens. I have. read more

Ok. Come on now... 6 hours for Inspection? Really? I have been to this Pep Boys in the past and it took 45 minutes. I walked in, handed over my keys, had a seat and boom- done. Let me set the scene for what happened today: I know from past experience that going as early as possible makes things a lot easier. I went in at 9am. There was no one waiting, no cars (that I could see) in the shop being worked on, and about 5 mechanics just sitting around in the garage. I'm thinking "wonderful! I'll be out of here quick!" ... I say to the woman behind the counter that I need to have my car inspected. She says "ok, so you're dropping it off?" I tell her I intend to wait for my car to be completed. She says "are you sure? it's going to be about 6 hours." WHAAAT? How can this be? You have 5 mechanics twiddling their thumbs in the back! Needless to say I just went elsewhere. I find it very hard to believe they had such a back up considering no one appeared to be working. I also found it hard to believe that a routine inspection could possibly take 6 hours. Especially after I took my car elsewhere and they were done in an hour. read more

I had my car towed here to be diagnosed when it wouldn't start a few weeks ago. There was a bit of a hiccup with the third party towing service (the towing company's driver misplaced my car key and I was getting the run around between Pep Boys corporate customer service reps, the towing company and the store my car was towed to), and it took a while to get to the bottom of the issue. Needless to say I was beyond frustrated, but Devon, one of the guys working in the service bay, worked with me over the phone in a professional, courteous and understanding manner. My key was eventually found, and Hugh, the store manager took care of the the fee for diagnosis to make up for my wasted time and aggravation. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my experience at this particular location. Wish I could say the same for their useless corporate customer service department! I've never had a problem with the retail side of this location, but the service side are a bunch of dopes. I came in about a year ago for new ball joints and am just now discovering they never greased them. Getting all sorts of suspension noise, took my truck in to an independent shop, and they are asking who put on the ball joints because they are factory dry. Thank god they are Moog parts and are fine or I would be burning this place down if they ended up costing me more money. Bullshit like this tells people they should either A) use an independent for auto repair or B) do it yourself because the chain shops hire monkeys. Ditch the service end of this location and stay local. Fountain Street Auto are great, so is A&W. read more

Its been 3 years since Pepboys ruined my volkswagen when there was no oil in it after they did an oil change. I'm still steaming mad. DO NOT GO TO PEPBOYS. ever. What a nightmare. Can I give them Zero stars? I took my car for an oil change, and it is forever damaged. After driving to and from work (less than 20 miles) I was blasted with beeps and dings as my check engine light and oil light flashed. I checked the oil, DRY. Not a single drop in my car. I may not be most mechanically savvy, but knew better than to drive this car anywhere. I arrived at Pep Boys the next day, and they gave me a 1-800 number to call to get a tow truck. After a bit of sass and hassle, I let the manager know that he was to take care of this, as I was already extremely inconvenienced. They claim that a canister was improperly replaced and the oil leaked out. Ever since, my check engine light comes on, and turns off periodically. I take a lot of pride in my car. I went from a 15 year old civic, to higher end vw, and now my nice car is a headache. Thanks Pepboys, I really needed this stress. read more

I didn't pay an arm and leg for what I got is the best I'll say, but that doesn't raise the star rating any more. I went to what was the beginning of my break down with Honda. Not being very versed in mechanics at the time, I thought it was a battery issue at the time and felt a new battery may be in order and knew Pep Boys would have it in stock. So I drove in. When I called for them to look at it, they first suggested they may be something more wrong than a battery and I told them to look at else what might be there. They took a hour or two to do this. So, while they found there was no battery issue, they suggested a fuel line issue as all they did is pump a little more gas and the car started again. Turns out it was not a gas issue. I drove the car around for a while. When I stopped at a convenience store, the car stopped and it wasn't because of lack of gas. I would find out it had to do with a belt and engine issues that they completely overlooked. That's some mechanics, eh? Needless to say, I am never going back, read more

About two years ago I first went to this Pep Boys after picking up a three inch nail in my tire. The guy saw how flustered I was and was extremely nice and did the job in under 15 minutes. Cut to this past Friday I picked up another and remembering my positive experience previously it was the first place I thought to go. Upon entering there was a room full of people waiting yet the guy at the counter said it was a quick job and would take 15 minutes. Half an hour later I asked him what was going on as over half the people had left. He said he'd move my car up next and it would be 10 minutes. After another half hour and having to remind the mechanics in the back three times to stop standing around and just put the tire on the car it was finally done. Still took five minutes just get my key back. I'm fairly certain $20 was taken off my bill after some complaints but it was still a huge waste of money and time. It would have been far better and good business if the guy had just been honest with me in the first place and two other people also had to speak with him to move things along. I've never seen a garage with so many cars up and so many people just standing around trying to do the least amount of work possible. I'm no mechanic but if you're lucky enough to get a quick and easy job why not make it quick and easy? read more

I'm a fan of Pep Boys in general, and the location on Ridge is no exception. Everyone I've dealt with has been helpful and nice. I came in for an oil change and an inspection, and though I ended up needing a bunch of work done, Ron was kind enough to explain it to me, tell me what I needed to do (like brakes) and what could possibly wait. I've been to this location before for a new tire, and that was done quickly and efficiently - no complaints. The waiting room is perfectly fine, clean, and comfortable enough. These guys will continue to be my service center of choice. read more

I have never met more honest, accommodating mechanics. I went to Pep Boys for a second opinion on my tie rod (was told by another shop it would fail my inspection if not taken care of in 30 days for $700!). Pep Boys listened to my concerns via telephone, called Mazda for me before even looking at my car or having a contract signed, and confirmed the labor needs before me bringing it in. They did their due diligence since my car was so young, to respond to the unlikelihood of this kind of damage. Once I brought it in, they gave a thorough inspection (with multiple mechanics confirming) and let me know that there was absolutely no wear, and nothing that would cause my inspection to fail as it had at the other shop. They performed my other services, got me inspected, and I was out quickly to pick my vehicle back up. I had a great experience with Raymond Jermyn and Addison. I really appreciate the time they took addressing my concerns and calling me every step of the way. I will be bringing my car back for all services because they are definitely people I trust. read more

I waited a week to post my review in light of not wanting to post in the heat of the moment under emotional influences. Let me just say that the automotive services are one of the worst experiences I've encountered of customer care and service. I made my appointment online, which is a complete joke because my car did not even go into the bay until 2 hrs after my scheduled time. However I was happy to see a familiar face from the year prior, DeVon! DeVon provided utmost care and attentiveness throughout this horrible experience. He even remembered me from a year prior. In fact I went back to Pepboys because my previous experience had been super. To make a long story short, we waited 3.5 hours total to get an oil change and emissions test. I expressed my anger to the manager, Hugh, and he lied straight to my face that my car would be out in 15 minutes. After waiting 3 hours, minutes are crucial. Those 15 minutes turned into 30. Then I found out that the car in front of mine was having trouble that they were waiting on fixing. I expressed my concern for lack of communication a second time and their lack of priority for customer care. For instance, take the car you can't fix out and put the next "waiting customer" car in! Or at least let me know my wait would be longer so I can make the decision to leave. I will never return to this specific Pepboys in Andorra and in fact, I will not be returning my business to Pepboys at all. Hugh, the manager on staff has no customer relation skills and clearly has his priorities not straight. They also need to hire new front end people. When DeVon wasn't able to assist me, do you think any of the other employees did? Nope. One girl stood at the computer desk eating jerky and drinking a monster, another guy was on his phone and the old man pretended not to see me. But it's okay Pepboys, I won't be returning and I will make sure my friends and family don't come to you either. I will also be writing to headquarters of Pepboys. Maybe then you will change your protocols on customer care. When all was said and done I found out they didn't even add windshield wiper fluid to my car or reset my oil indicator even though they said they did and it's on my receipt. read more

I stopped in to have a battery tested. The employee was very nice and hooked it up to be tested. He mentioned it would take 5-10 minutes. No problem so I walked around the entire store just checking stuff out. 10minutes had gone by so I stood leaning against a pallet in front of the register where the employee was. We made eye contact a couple times, well the one time he looked up from his cell phone. I was the only one in the store. So I was being patient because I knew he knew I was standing 10 feet from him. After 35-40 minutes I walked over and said hey do you think my battery is done being tested. He looks up from his phone and says.... " Oh sorry I totally forgot." Now I can understand if the store was busy, but it wasn't at all. I was the only one in there..it is Monday boggling. What did he thing I was doing just hanging out in pepboys ???? Come on dude. Time is precious and that was a waste. He told me the battery was good but how am I supposed to believe that. After how clueless he was. I always tell people to steer clear of Pep Boys because.i have had bad experiences in the past. I figured I would give them another shot...... Nope I was right the first time. read more

I brought a van into them that had a air conditioner that was not making any cold air. Although they suspected from the initial testing that it could ultimately prove to be a bad and expensive compressor, they attempted to fix the problem by replacing the less expensive seals which I paid a very reasonable charge for. Three months later the air would not get cold again and after two more service attempts (At NO CHARGE), the compressor had to be replaced. I admire their attempt in trying to fix the air conditioner as inexpensively as possible and I most certainly will bring any auto repairs that I may need to have performed to them in the future. Manny, Moe and Mac would be proud of their attention to their customers. read more

I've been here a few times and there's been some weird things, like them claiming an animal ate a part and they have to replace it but not showing it to me first, stuff like that. After this last incident, it's safe to say I am no longer a customer and you shouldn't be either. I took my 2014 VW Jetta here for a simple oil change, that's it. I ended up with $800 in damages. On my way home from the oil change a light I had never seen before popped up on my dash. I brought it back in and they read what the error code meant, but said it had nothing to do with the oil change and sent me on my way. With the way they shooed me out, I bet they realized exactly what happened. I took my car to a VW dealer a few days later and they discovered Pepboys slammed my engine cover down the wrong way twice after replacing my oil, causing a piece to break off of my high pressure fuel pump. The whole thing had to be replaced. A week after angrily storming into Pepboys to tell them I'm not paying for any of this, the manager called me to tell me corporate will reimburse me for the damages. I'm glad I am being reimbursed but obviously I will not be back to this shop with inexperienced and dishonest employees and the inconvenience of it all still makes me mad. Another recent story about this Pepboys...my boyfriend's AC wasn't working and they looked at it and said he needed a new compressor and quoted $850. He took his car to Midvale Automotive (highly recommend) and they said it was leaking freon and fixed it for $250. Pepboys is a SCAM. DO NOT take your car here no matter how convenient it seems. read more
