DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE. I went for a simple oil change. Full synthetic Mobil1. According to the website, after coupon it was supposed to be $50.00. Plus tire rotation was free. In the end, I paid $70 for oil change due to labor charge and filter charge. Also they found a nail in one of the tires and patched for $20.00. However, I found out that it is still leaking air after 2 days. And tire rotation was not done because he thought it was not needed. I mean it is okay not to rotate the tires though. But the tire should not keep leaking air even after patch up. And all those hidden fees for oil change is just funny. read more

I get there and they tell me they have no mechanic there to do the inspection. Why couldn't they call me or update me with a different time? I ordered a tire online for installation at this pep boys. Website claimed they'd have the tire the next day, I gave them two days before my appointment. I showed up and they didn't have it, tried to sell me a different brand. They said they can order it and have it in a day or two. The next day I received a text message that my tire was there and I should come in to have it installed. Once again they didn't have it. I showed the rep my confirmation printout proving I didn't order to a different pep boys and let him hear the voice mail. He did apologize and promised to get me the tire there the next day. The next day I received an email that my order's been cancelled because I took too long to get the tire installed.Two wasted trips. I used to like this shop, never again. read more

I went into Pep Boys on Metropolitan Avenue for tire situation. I spoke to the representative David I told him what my problem was waited almost 2 hours to be told that. I would have to leave my car until tomorrow. Came back,David try to get me to buy four new tires when there was nothing else wrong with the other three I felt like I was pier pressured into buying tires I stood my ground and did not purchase anything. They always do everything amazing that has to be looked at, repaired .. they never come up with nonsense that many other car repairs place come up with. I hate that this place gets such a bad rap. I've been bringing my '06 Sentra and '08 RAV4 here for 5 years and never had any trouble. The place is busy on the weekends, so the wait is very long. That's just the way it is. But I appreciate the fact that they let me know ahead of time that (if I bring in my car late) they just may not get to it, and offer an appointment for another day. At least they're honest upfront, instead of making me wait all day to find out they can't work on my car. I also appreciate that they honor their warranties too, as they have fixed a slow leak in a tire that I bought from them. They are also very helpful. If they cannot help me with an obscure car problem that I bring to them, they always recommend a great place that can help me. They haven't let me down in 5 years. If you can handle the wait, I would recommend this place. If you don't want to wait, there are other excellent shops nearby that you can try. read more

Ive brought my car here a few times for inspection, oil change, and maintenance. Brought it in for a minor repair for the first time this week. Always get great prices, I like the convenience of scheduling an appointment online. When I purchased the 4 tires, about a year ago, the salesperson told me I could bring the car back and have the tires rotated & balanced for as long as I owned the car and tires at no cost to me. Great. About three months ago, I had the tires rotated, at no cost. The clerk (different then the first salesperson) asked if I wanted them balanced, free of charge. I declined but great. This time on 11/30/2015 I was told I have to pay for the tire balance. I explained that I purchased rotation and balance when I bought the tires. The clerk said no, that was for 90 days. This was the same salesperson that sold me the tires about a year ago. Not great, horrible. I paid $65.28 just to leave. I posted to yelp because I didn't know what else to do. I would like my $65.28 returned to me asap just on principle. I spend a lot of money, it would unfortunate if this was my last purchase at pep boys. Please feel free to call me. I was in a situation in July where my car broke down in Queens while visiting family. This was the only shop open on Sunday to do reapairs (needed new alternator installed). I was told 24 hours. It was Tuesday afternoon before I got car back but aleast it was done and I could get back in the road, but it cost me almost $1,300.00 for a Bosch alternator Now it's early November and the car has been making a horrible noise. I just brought the car to.my local mechanic (Roswell Auto, very highly regarded mechanic). They've informed me the alternator is falling apart and they can't even tell what brand it is. Simple conclusion - Pep Boys is a rip-off. Someone at the famous NY Attorneys Generals Office needs to investigate this shop. read more

4 stars and ONLY because Shorn is AMAZING. Excellent customer service. His service people could learn a lot from him on how to treat customers. Long story short, I had my car inspected here back in September because I was desperate and it was the last day. My boyfriend went for me and he waited 3 hours for an inspection. 3 hours!! Someone messed up and put the car keys in a bin for an employee that had the day off. He paid for wiper blades and I foolishly thought they were changed. Months went by and I started thinking that maybe they weren't changed. I checked the name on the old blades and as I thought, they weren't changed. I called twice and one guy was nice. His name starts with a V. He told me to come in and I didn't have time so I called again and spoke with Marlon who was super rude. It isn't what you say it's how you say it. Some food for thought, jerk. Anyway, I went today and Shorn was polite and apologized for his crew. I made my appointment for oil change ,filter replacement and tire maintenance and Emil was informative. He told me for tires just needed rotating and nothing more. Other places will try to tack on extra for service you dont need but it wasnt the case here.The staff there was very polite . Im satisfied with the service . It just happened today (May 12, 2016). So yesterday I've dropped of my car for oil change. I left the car overnight with them. This morning around 9:00AM I went to pick up the vehicle, I payed for it, and got the keys. Everything was seemed alright like usually. But this time the remote didn't open the car, didn't start the car and didn't turn off the alarm. So I went back to the desk and asked them what happened. 2 guys tried to open the car but they couldn't. So I stepped out across the street to the car electric shop, where originally the alarm, DVD, back up camera and other things was installed. They changed the battery in the remote control, but didn't work. So I asked them for help. They came over pep boys parking lot at 10:05AM and opened the car with keys and turned of the alarm manually (by hand). They figured it out the remote was dropped and brake. I had to purchase another one. It's an expensive system so it costs a little. Anyway I went back to pep boys and asked if I can get a discount or some will pay for it? The store manager started to yell at me, and they said I broke the remote and I brought it like that. I've asked them: then how come you guys locked it and I couldn't open it? They said they never locked it. They lied into my face!!! We tried to open it together just 30 minutes before. Also my alarm sends me a text when someone tried to open the car without turning the alarm off. It happened 9:25AM, then 9:30AM we tried to open it together with the workers and the store manager, and finally the car electricians opened and turned the alarm off at 10:05AM. The worst thing is not loosing the money, but the way they treated me. I was called a liar, they accused me with scamming, and other things. Discussing place. Discussing workers. This place is one of the worst run places I've ever seen. I can't even blame the employees at this point. It's not their fault that no one is ever on the floor to assist customers or that people behind the counter are always on the phone because that call to them is more important that an actual customer in front of them or that everyone avoids eye contact and acts like they didn't hear you and walk rapidly in the other direction to avoid helping you. No, it's not their fault at all. I mean, who runs this place? I blame the manager. Every time I walk into that place I walk out shaking my head wondering why I walked in there in the first place. Bought a Bosch battery about 18 months ago. It was supposed to be guaranteed for up to 3 years under the receipt agreement. When I took it to my local triple AAA gas station for regular emissions inspection, they said that the battery was leaking acid. I took it to PepBoys who has a policy of "checking" to make sure that the defective battery is not "made" defective by a faulty alternator/recharge component system. They claim that "We ain't going to give you a battery by you simply bringing in it in" and they ask for a $16 diagnostics fee..... By then I sense that they would come up with some ridiculous figure of something else being wrong. After a 1 1/2 hour wait, they come with an estimate of $489 for a faulty alternator. I say no thank you and pay the $16 fee and walk out. I take the car to my triple AAA gas station telling them to check the alternator, after 3 checks, nothing is wrong. I say replace the battery for $136+ 6 year warranty. This PepBoy is a scam of the worst kind. They pretty much hold your warranty and benefits under their false pretense of mechanical/electrical expertise. Avoid like the plague. read more

I came across an awesome Cyber Monday deal for a suv truck battery and scheduled an appointment. However, this store cancelled on the eve of the appointment. I called the store inquiring and was told the battery was never in stock. Huh? They would not sell me a similar battery at the sale price. I called up their corporate hotline and was told I would receive a followup call from a manager. (No one ever did). I'm going to a different shop. Shoulda read the reviews. Went in at 4:00 pm for an oil change. Car wasn't put up until 5:20. Didn't walk out until 6:20. I could have done it faster myself. 77 dollars for the slowest service. At the very least I would have felt better if I was kept up to date on how long it was going to be. Everyone in the waiting area was pissed. One guy was waiting for just a simple battery change. 3 hours! Lesson learned, never again. read more

Don't get tricked by their working hours, they are not really open until 8 like they claim, if you have car trouble get there before 5 so they can actually get to it. Got a screw in my tire and they were the only place open at the time so I went since they advertise tire and service. I got there at 7pm and a Caucasian older male with long hair at the service register told me that he won't be able to take my car because they close at 8. How long does it take to patch a tire? I explained that I need the car for work tomorrow morning and no other place is open but he just kept repeating himself like a broken record. Roadside assistance towed my Hyundai here after my car was jerking around in first and second gear and revving to 4k rpms in park after driving for a short while as well as a new check engine light. They charged 100 for engine diagnostics, then called later saying there were "too many problems" with it and didn't want to waste their time. I should of checked Yelp first. I'd rather get herpes (again) than come back to this shit show. Rude as hell too. I suggested it may be the O2 sensor that was causing my car to stall and rev to 4k rpms in park, they immediately shrugged me off and said an O2 sensor wouldn't make your car do that. Fools... of course it would! Try a simple google search and it's one of the most common reasons for a check-engine light and the other symptoms I was having. More like Poop Boys to me. I only gave 1 star because I had to. This place is the absolute worst! I went on a weekend and the wait was 2 hours for an oil change- understandable because it was the weekend and I walked in without an appointment or anything. I asked the guy at the front desk what time is usually their down time, he said during the week around 4pm is usually always very slow. I decided to call on a Monday at 4:00pm to see if there was a wait. I specifically asked if there was a wait and how long it would be if I came in about 20 minutes. The woman who answered the phone said there was no wait and I could go in now. I pull into the parking lot, park, and walk inside. Lo and behold the line is almost to the door. There's at least 10-12 people in front of me waiting. It was 4:26pm. I told myself that if I was still waiting at 4:35, I would leave. It was past 4:35 and the line hadn't moved. I called another shop not too far away and asked them how long it would be for an oil change. They said they were free and to go now. I got off the line and went to the other place. Got a flat tire, and needed a new one. Went in to Pepboys around 9am, and left by 10, with 2 new tires (both of which were actually needed) and an alignment. While I'm pretty sure they slightly overcharged me for the alignment, the work was quick and well done, and the manager (I wish I remembered his name!) was helpful and kind. I know enough about cars to know when I'm being ripped off, and these guys are decent. It would have still been cheaper in NJ. read more

I would like to start off with the bad experience I had. I went there for an oil change and was left waiting 3 hours and no work was done. I told them I would come back the next day because I had to pick up my daughter. I never thought it was going to take that long. When I went there the next day I had to wait 2 more hours for my car to be serviced. It's been exactly 2 months and my "oil light" started blinking, something that has never happened before. I took my car to the nearest mechanic right away. He checked the oil level for me and asked me when was the last time I had an oil changed and I said 2 months ago. He told me that it was impossible because there was almost no oil left. He said it will take several months for the oil to reach to that level. My only guess is that the oil change was never done. Now I'm out $60 extra because of the diagnostic. read more

Terrible! Horrible! And Rip off. I came to this place for concerns on a coolant issue was told to replace my thermostat. Was given an estimate of $940.00 for replacement of my thermostat that includes a flush to current coolant, replacement of thermostat and labor costs. Naturally i thought this was wrong since i know that the thermostat only costs maximum $200 or less. The estimate was showing $400 which was double the cost amount. Thank god i had common sense to leave this place because i found a repair shop nearby that took care of me right away and properly assessed my car issue to a replacement valve that was needed as the thermostat was NOT BROKEN or needed repair. PLEASE TO ALL FEMALES READING THIS DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY GOING HERE AS THEY REALLY THINK THAT WOMEN KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CARS AND FEEL THE NEED TO PRICE GAUGE ON UNNECESSARY REPAIRS. I have recently gone here a few weeks ago and had the worst experience. My check engine light was on and my car was hesitating at low speeds so I was informed the service dept. They informed that the ignition coils needed to be changed and a few belts had to be changed, but the Asst Mgr Frank mis to informed that they sell the coils for $25.99 and charged me $63.99. The second issue was they charged me for 6hrs of labor but I live in the area and passed by numerous times and my vehicle went in at 12 and I picked it up at 330. I was charged wrong for material plus labor over a $500.00 mistake . This place misinformed me tremendously, they not only ripped me off but try to charge me for service that was not done. I highly do not recommend this place, it was one of the worst experiences I have been through. read more
