Car came back with a lug bolt missing, another visibly crooked, others not in all the way, and one tire 10 psi low. At least two rotors and possibly hubs are damaged- tech who can fully assess is gone for the day. Car is undrivable and was unsafe when they returned it to me. Edit/update: made zero progress through normal customer service pathways waiting on a response from the "field leadership team." After finally emailing a separate high level corporate support position, got approval to tow it to a BMW dealership for repairs. All told, after two weeks and about $2000 in repairs and rental car costs, I have a functional car back. read more

I found myself with a bolt in my back tire. I started to make an appointment online. I saw there were several open time slots. They had appointments from 12:30-3:00 every 30 minutes open. I called spoke with Brian, just before 12:30. I was told it might take awhile there was only one technician. I told Brian I would speak to my husband and probably be down. About 15 minutes later I was at the Pep Boys Shop. When I pulled in the place looked abandoned, 1 car in the lot. The bay wasn't full, with cars. The inside was dirty and unkept. I waited at the service counter for a minute. Brian came out asked if I needed help. I explained I called and spoke to him about the bolt. His reply was "oh shit". I was told that someone called in, only 1 technician, they were busy, and my car had to be have to be there until close. I decided to leave. Brian said repeatedly he would put air in my tire as he followed me out. I explained a bolt is in my tire that was what I needed. The worst customer service I've ever had. Brian is having a bad day at his JOB, I get it! My day wasn't going great either. The difference is I didn't "oh shit" anyones day. I unexpectedly got a bolt in my tire, called a tire shop, and then went to a tire shop for a service. In a world full of service workers being treated badly here we had Pep Boys "Uno Reversed" me with an "oh shit". This all could have been avoided by a simple we don't have time today. I would have called other shops. In the end AAA came out problem solved. AAA recommended that I should have called Discount Tire, not Pep Boys. Pep Boys do better. Manny, Moe, and Jack had a mission with a customer-centric approach. Brian you are old enough to know how to speak to people. Stopped in for a flat repair on a Monday morning due to a broken screw in the tire. The two folks at the counter were very friendly. We were the only customer with a vehicle in the garage when they started the repair. The courtesy inspection and tire plug installation took about an hour. The customer lounge gives you a view of the garage so you get to watch the technician at work. In this case we had a female technician and it was funny watching her wrestle with the screw stuck in the tire for 15 minutes. Not sure I would trust them with anything complicated based on my observations but the patching process looked comprehensive. It was definitely a surprise that I was in for more than 20 minutes for a tire patch but the cost was good at less than $25. read more

My fiancé discovered a nail in his tire the night before he was scheduled to film a conference for the entire weekend. I said "not on my watch" and decided to take matters into my own hands to help my man out. I called multiple auto shops to see if anyone could plug or patch a tire and everyone was booked. I ended up speaking to Michael at Pep Boys and he was able to squeeze me in with no problem. I received a free inspection which concluded that fiancé needed a full set of new tires. I had a yoga class scheduled, so I ended up ubering home to take my car to yoga. Pep Boys had the tires in stock & they were also running a special for the tires he purchased. Michael was also able to send my fiancé a link to make the payment, which was extremely convenient. I would definitely recommend Pep Boys if you have any untimely car issues. The most unhelpful, time-wasting location there is! We've used this location twice before and received decent service, so opted to schedule an appointment online for a thermostat replacement on one of our vehicles, and an oil change and tire purchase/ installation for the other, on two different days. The first appointment was immediately canceled by the location, citing they were short-staffed and unable to accept the appointment. No offer to reschedule to another day or location, just a cancelation text. Ok, opted to go to the McDowell location, scheduled an appt, seen immediately at the appt time, service completed and excellent work done. Still had 2nd appt at this location. Until we receive an email basically stating "Sorry you couldn't make your recent appointment, but you can reschedule by clicking HERE" [see screenshot] WTH? I didn't miss my appointment, it's not for another day! I thought maybe I confused the days when I scheduled the appointment but I went back to look at the screenshot I took of the confirmation and NO, it is scheduled for tomorrow, so how could I have missed my appointment and need to reschedule?? Coolant Change, There was Issue with the Type of Coolant. UPDATED:Pep Boys reached out and change coolant with KIA OEM My car requires ethyl-glycol with phosphate, common for Asian cars (Kia). For Kia/Hyundai/Nissan/Subaru, is called Asian Green. I called in advanced and asked for the phosphate type. When I arrived, the service rep (Brian) had ordered Asian Red (Toyota), so I pointed out there error to another service rep and that Asian Green is the type needed according to coolant manufacturer (Peak) and the OEM (KIA). "No problem" was their response and they ordered the correct type (and I need wait 45 min). The problem is when I left, the service rep I talked to originally on phone, stated that they correct type is Asian Red (Toyota type for my Kia?), and don't come back to complain if there problems and that they did installed Asian Green coolant under my orders. (It would have been good to tell me this before service!!!!). This service rep refused to discuss the type of coolant and the recommendations from coolant manufacture and OEM, cutting me off, stating that Pep Boys software is better at identifying correct coolant. So I'm disappointed with there behavior and would not recommend Pep Boys due to service reps. Updated: The Pep Boys store manager reached out to me to discuss my complaint I made via email to corporate. The store manager (being the same person Brian) started out by insisting they used correct coolant, so I asked the the same simple question "Did I get the right fluid?". He offered to verify with their resources, and called me back latter to offer a complete coolant change using KIA OEM coolant. Eventually he did say that Asian GREEN was correct (I was correct!!!). Not a single person called to update us on if it was serviced or anything. We finally called back at 4:30pm asking for an update because we were charged for the oil change. The guy stated that there was nothing else wrong with the car (the engine light was on & a headlight was out when we dropped the car off), he stated that the car hadn't been serviced, & asked if we needed it back by today...... We advised him of the other issues again, advised we were already charged for a service even though he stated the car hadn't been touched (almost 4 hours after the appointment!), & obviously we would like the car back tonight. We ended up showing up to the establishment at 5:58pm (business hours are listed as 7:30am -7:30pm) NO ONE WAS THERE! & on top of that, the car was left in the middle of the lot completely unlocked!!! Julian went way beyond the call of duty in helping me while I waited in the customer lounge. ZERO STARS. Manager Brian spoke with h me on Thursday and insisted he could fix my car Saturday morning and to drop it off Friday. When I went to drop it off, the man took my keys and didn't write any information, I had to ask if he wanted my name or phone number to go with my keys. Just to make sure he passed on my information, I called on Saturday morning and they tell me they see my car but have no idea why it's sitting in their garage. And then proceeds to tell me they will not be able to work on my car and to come pick it up. COMPLETELY wasting my time. I could've taken my car elsewhere Thursday or even Friday, and now it's Saturday and I have to wait until Monday to be seen anywhere else. The assistant manager did not apologize or have anything to say when picking my car up and was told the manager that told me the original information was out on vacation for 7 days. Why does this place even take appoinents? This is NOT the first time i have made an appointment for an oil change to specifically wait. Once again, I go on and am told they are busy, and it will be over an hour and a half. My car is a fleet vehicle, and PepBoys has the contract to service. I know they can get it done in 30 min. We came here for an oil change Sunday, March 20th, after making an appointment online. We drove both of our cars here so we could drop the one off for the oil change, run our errands and come back. When we arrived, there was a sign taped to the door stating they were closed on Sundays. The hours on the Pep Boys site show 9:00-5:00 on Sunday for this location, and we received the text confirmation for our appointment. Pep Boys hasn't begun any work on my car yet, and I'm already thoroughly disgusted. Their customer service is trash! Brandon is a complete asshole; he is utterly unfriendly and unhelpful. He didn't make eye contact during our 3-5 minute dialogue. He has zero people skills or customer service skills. Mechanic, Enrique, was just as bad: rude and impatient. I normally don't spend my money with companies who treat me poorly, especially before services are even rendered. I'm forced to used them because they are the only auto shop in the area that's open on Sunday, and the car repair is an emergency. I will NOT use Pep Boys EVER again. And I DONT recommend them! Do not waste your time with this store. I made an online appointment for an oil change 2 days in advance. They apparently don't honor online appointments. They cancelled my appointment without notice and I received an email that they were sorry I missed my appointment and wanted to know if I would like to reschedule. I received the email 1.5 hours before my appointment. When I called to confirm my appointment prior to heading to the store, they said they don't take online appointments and their shop was full for the next day and a half. Been coming here for years and have had mixed experiences. This location is great for simple service like tires and an oil change but I wouldn't trust them to do a lot of work on my car. About a year ago paid $500 for them to incorrect diagnosis an AC and had to pay another $500 to get my AC actually fixed. This is on top of the fact that my transmission blew from no transmission fluid despite having had brought my car in a month prior after moving cross country and paying for a full inspection and tire rotation. Honestly the only reason I didn't give them zero starts is as far as your local simple car shop they do a good job and are usually helpful with things like wiper blades and air filters. When I got to the service desk, I received no greeting or friendly "how may I help you"? I walked up to the service area and one employee was on the phone while another employee looked like she was too busy looking at her computer screen to care to even look at me. After a minute or two, she acknowledged me very unenthusiastically with something that sounded like "Yes?". I'm wondering if it physically pained her to at least force a small smile. When I explained my issue to her, she proceeded to continue fiddling on her computer screen without any acknowledgement or reassurance that she had understood my request. She started filling out paperwork and I must have been standing there for 15 minutes without any communication from her. She then said the labor would cost $110, but she said it so hesitantly it didn't even seem like she knew what she was talking about or like she was even sure the price was correct. I told her I certainly did not want to pay that much for a simple cable replacement (that I'm pretty sure I could do myself). She kept fiddling with her computer for another 10-15 mins and called another employee over a few times to confirm some pricing details she was looking at on her screen. When I asked how much it would cost to also replace my wiper blades, it took her 10 minutes to once again call someone over to confirm that the labor for the replacement was free and that I would only need to pay for the actual wiper blades. I felt very unimportant and unwelcomed by this particular employee and I can't help but wonder how they can put these type of employees in this kind of role where pricing knowledge and customer service are both crucial components of the job yet this employee absolutely lacked both. After waiting in the lounge for a few minutes, another (male) employee came over and went over next steps with me. He was helpful, reassuring, and the complete opposite of the other lady that had initially "helped" me. I cannot even begin to explain how I will never go back here again and they just lost what could have been a loyal customer AND I was planning on giving them the business to replace my breaks - not anymore, karma is a b*tch. Just because I'm a female who knows close to nothing about cars, does not mean I can be COMPLETELY taken advantage of with my car. To replace this upper radiator hose, labor, I was quoted $564 dollars. Hilarious. I called Ford dealership - $395. Long story short a small local 5 star business did it for $90. After telling Pep Boys - no thank you, please don't do any work I will come grab my car, they charge me f*cking $40. $40 to put COLOR DYE in my engine because they couldn't understand what was leaking. My father who also owns an auto body shop in NY was horrified to find out they charged me $40 for this. It is taking everything in my power to not either A. Walk into that place and demand my money back or B. Pretend I lost my card and have my bank dispute it. This is why these places have bad reputations. Worst service ever! I took my car in for an AC repair. After 2 days I went to pick it up and they still had not fixed my car. I took it to a different place and they discovered that Pep Boys technicians had cut out a hole behind the glove box to get to the AC. This of course with NO authorization whatsoever. They were going to charge me for "labor" as if they had taken off the dashboard but since they couldn't fix the AC they didn't. When I called the manager they admitted that a technician had done that. The dashboard has been discontinued so now I am stuck with their negligence and the damage done to my car. Pep boys does it again!! I told myself I would never go back to this place! After going through the corporate office for an issue we had a year ago. At that time we brought our vehicle in for an alignment issue. They had the car two days and claimed they weren't able to figure it out. I dont think they even looked at the car. We ended up taking it to the dealership who was able to fix it right away. The Pep Boys manager at the time offered us a credit for our trouble but said it could take a few weeks so instead he offered us 6 free oil changes in exchange for us to continue using Pep boys for service. We made the right decisions to continue to use their service! Today we brought our car in for an oil change and brought one of the free oil change cards. The manager refused to accept it because she claimed that previous manager was giving away all the time and they had to fire him. How is that our issue?? We would have accepted the refund from corporate if they weren't going to accept the free oil change cards. The manager Meriam was very uprofessional in the way she talked to my wife. Why would we need to know about the previous manager and what hes accused of? The bottom Line is Pep boys gave us some of the worst customer service we have ever received. I would never recommend going to this place. Between the poor customer service and the unethical ways in which they do business, they dont deserve to stay open. read more

Could be just today, but I have been waiting 2 hrs for a scheduled standard oil change. Car is still up on the lift so I know the new oil is not in. Scheduled 2nd car an hour a later.
