This is one of the best Pepe's in the franchise. We have only been there twice but very satisfied each visit. I think this is better then most of the surrounding Mexican restaurants in the area. The daily specials are great deals, the service is very attentive, and the owners have a good presence. I haven't had the chance to try the buffet but took a peek at it and it looks impressive. Be careful and look at your receipt. Ordered 2 grilled chicken quesadilla dinners. Menu says 13.00 and 3.00 more for rice & beans. We get the receipt and we were charged 21.00 for one and 18.00 for the other. After discussing with the waitress what the menu says she comes back and says it's extra for the grilled chicken. It said that nowhere on the menu. We used to like this place but there are too many other places that are 100% better than this place. We won't be back! Food was actually pretty good - we had a party of 7 people 5 adults and 2 children. 6 of us had the buffet and one ordered off the menu. We barely had service during the meal (refills on drinks/remove dishes etc.) However when we received the bill we saw that a service fee of 20% was already added in (which I felt was too much for a buffet with very little service). Not only that - but a 3.75% credit card charge was already charged (before they even knew how I was paying). I am not one to complain but I have no idea what's been going on here. The last two times that we ate here at Pepe 's, the server never came back to the table to check on things and when we were done with our first round of drinks he never came back and asked us if we wanted another drink. After sitting there with two empty plates and two empty glasses for 10 minutes we finally decided to ask for the check. I keep saying it, but this time I vow never to step foot in this restaurant again. No matter where i sit i get the same server with the same result. He takes the order without writing it down and it is always messed up. The order gets brought to the table by a busboy, not once does he come over and ask "how is everything" had he done this i would have told him that once again he got the order wrong. i ate whatever he decided to bring me and i carefully ration my drink because there is no chance of this guy stopping back at the table before my dinner is over. 20 minutes after we are done i am forced to bring my wifes uneaten tacos up to the register to have them wrapped up and get the check and get out of there. I let the guy know my dissatisfaction with him not writing my order down, messing it up and never coming to check with us, his answer was "i was walking around, you never flagged me down" i then asked him if he remembered what kind of taco i ordered, he said "beef on flour", i said NO-it was chicken on flour, we argued about this for a bit, i then take him back to my table and ask him to identify the uneaten the taco on my plate which he incorrectly identified as flour no less than 3 times, when i said i was going to ask someone else he then said it was a corn tortilla and that the "COOK MUST HAVE MESSED UP THE ORDER" I have been very understanding with restaurants since covid, and now with the labor shortage, but in my opinion this was the absolute worst service that i have ever received and i really deserved it becausethe last 2 times i have been there, i said that i am never going back, i am a glutton for punishment NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

Disappointed again for the second time going there. Ordered a steak salad and it was very bland. Came with three slivers of green peppers, a few thick cut onions, very cold pieces of steak that had absolutely no taste, the two tiny pieces of tomatoes were not ripe, cheese was generic. So disappointed. Had to ask for straws and when my husband asked for a refill the girl didn't bother to ask or offer to refill mine which was almost empty. Ordered tacos with no tomatoes.. there were tomatoes on them.. luckily not allergic otherwise that would have been an issue.. paid for and ordered extra cheese in the queso, there was barely any cheese at all in it. Service was absolutely terrible we came at 8 pm on a Tuesday and had to ask another server to send our server for the first time to put in food. After we got our food, we sat for another 30 mins he checked on us one time and then the bill was placed on our table by a busser with nobody asking if we were done. If I could give it zero stars I would. Placed a $55 take out order and they forgot my extra sides of beans and rice. Drove 15 minutes back and they gave me 2 small boxes of beans and rice. Went here for the 50th anniversary of Pepe's. Took a seat at the bar, our server pretty much handed us menu's and asked what we wanted. We needed sometime, we ordered some margarita's. She didn't come back after that but she did mention the lunch buffet before she left. I was going to ask her what it came with but after 10 minutes of waiting I got up and went to the host stand where there was a manager and a few workers one who was on her phone. I stood there for maybe 30 seconds and nobody acknowledged me. Finally I just said "hey where is the buffet at" guy said around the corner. Went back to the bar and sat. We flagged down another woman behind the bar to request the lunch buffet. She gave us some silverware. We grabbed our food, it was fairly decent. The mango margarita gave me a pounding headache though..very very sweet. While we were eating, nobody came to check on us for about 15/20 minutes. Was very disappointed the Buffet has been suspended at this location it was certainly a local treasure. Instead I had the lunch version of the Tostada Suizas, only two instead of three Tostadas and it was prefect. Nice save.!! Every meal we've had here has been very good!! (except for the corn in a cup...yikes it is basically lime corn and mayo?) Had flautas, carne asada, tostatas, margaritas, and steak tacos. Went to Pepe's in Homer Glen anticipating a well advertised lunch "buffet ". Upon my arrival I was informed that the lunch "buffet" was not being currently offered and had been discontinued for "quite awhile". I asked the host that if, in fact, the currently advertised "lunch buffet" was no longer available, then why is it currently being promoted as such; despite the discrepancy I elected to stay and ordered off of the regular menu. The food was very good and I have no issue with either food or service. Our waiter was friendly but not very informative of the menu. We went for the half price appetizers, and ended up with a full price bill. Tried to explain and we were told it wasn't valid because the promotion was put on the website several months ago. Then after arguing a little bit our waiter came back and said The promotion was only valid at the bar. But we were sitting in the bar area. Just ate dinner here tonight and I ordered a Strawberry Daiquiri.. I wasn't even carded and was then brought a virgin drink. Then was charged for an alcoholic drink on my bill. This is the second time in a week this has happened to me, granted not both times at Pepe's but still extremely irritating. Servers should be carding everyone that appears under 40 (or 50?) If the ID looks questionable then you should be asking for another form of identification. I'd be glad to show you my other IDs that match. If for some reason you are still suspicious then just tell me you don't feel comfortable serving it and I will respect you for doing your job. Let me know it will be virgin. Lastly, YOU SHOULD NOT BE CHARGING FOR ALCOHOL IF YOU'RE SERVING A VIRGIN DRINK. We went there during a slow time of day (Saturday around 2:30). There was almost nobody else there except for people at two other tables. The service was waaaay toooooo sloooow from start to finish. From ordering to paying the check it took well over an hour for just the two of us! The food wasn't anything to write home about either and they also failed to ask us if we wanted refills on our drinks! It's a good thing that we went there using a gift card, but even with eighteen bucks left on that gift card, we most likely will not return. Pepe's is an awesome place. At least this location. The food is the same as at any other Pepe's you go too. It's not bad, you don't get a craving for Pepe's tacos when you're drunk, but you'll definitely enjoy them while you are getting drunk. The best part of this Pepe's is the atmosphere. It is very inviting and friendly. Ihave never had a bad bartender/sever. I also always sit in the bar area. There are tables, booths and bar to sit at. In fact for the longest time I didn't realize that there was a whole other seating restaurant area on the other side. In case you couldn't tell Pepe's is as good a place to grab a beer or margarita if not better than some of the other bars around here. They have a nice patio in the summer and it's a blast here on most bar holidays. The free chips and salsa really seal the deal though. read more

Okay, they won me back -- at least for now. We visited again on May 28, which was a Thursday evening around 6:30 PM and was one of only about five or six tables. Was greeted by the manager, who was very professional and friendly and had a server that we had in the past who was VERY good and attentive. I ordered the exact same dinner as last time and it came out perfectly, hot and quick. The chips and salsa had improved as had the margarita. My husband's dinner was much better too. All in all very pleased with this visit. Side note -- the "new" young waiter who served us last time was there serving the table behind us. The woman ended up getting her own drink refills and more chips for the table. So that definitely still needs to be improved. Happy that my neighborhood place is showing signs of improvement, but if they don't get more business they may not make it in the long run. read more

(minus half a star for blasting "All About That Bass" in a dining room) They have an extensive menu of great food. Found coupons right on their website. The second time there we sat a high top table in the bar while watching a Blackhawks game. I found their bar area to be even more enjoyable, with a good atmosphere & good tunes playing on the jukebox. They offer a lot of exotic mixed drinks that, unfortunately nobody knows how to make. Seriously, servers should never act as bartenders. They could really use a real bartender with a sanitation license & proper certification etc. We watched as the "bartender" used the same blender to make several drinks without washing it in between uses. Since they have no concept of measurement, whatever doesn't fit into the glass being served, gets drank by the servers, but at least we know they're not getting a buzz off the drinks either. I highly doubt this is "authentic" Mexican food, but what would I know? It tasted pretty good and was served VERY quickly, like McDonald's quick which kinda weirded me out a little bit.
