Pepe's is a great restaurant. I went here with my family and the place is great! They have machines with toys and candy in them for the kids and at the end of the meal our amazing waitress brought the adults a shot to drink. They had a carne asada and let me tell you that it is amazing and delicious, with the rice and beans that come with the side of it. The inside of the restaurant was very nice and had a big fountain right in the middle of the seating area. If you ever want some good quality Mexican food go to Pepe's! read more

My favorite Pepe's that was in Harwood Heights closed. So my mom and I decided to give this one a try. We ordered a large guacamole for our appetizer. Two Large Pina Coladas one virgin and one with alcohol. I had the Fiesta combination (which is a Taco, Enchilada Suizas, Tamale and a Tostada). My mom had the enchiladas with Mole sauce with a tamale on the side. Everything was good! It had that 90's taste! They have a nice amount of guacamole. It was salted perfectly. The beans were a little extra thick, could have been thinned out a tad but were good. My only real complaint was that my Pina Colada (I had the one with alcohol) was kinda watered down. Sorry to say they lost a star ... still good, but now three stars. The waitstaff remains the sterling thing about this place - easily 5 stars all the time. They are engaging, efficient, and go out of their way to please. Waitstaff remains 5 stars. The problem is that no matter how good the waitstaff is, they can only serve up what the bar and the kitchen put together ... and things have changed in the last 6 to 9 months. The bar remains efficient, but the regular margaritas have tailed off ... not sure if they are using a different mix or cheaper tequila or what, but what was a huge draw for us has dropped in quality ... the regular margaritas just aren't what they used to be. The kitchen has changed also. Not sure if they changed chefs or sourcing of raw materials, but the food quality has tailed off. Used to be the food was always tip-top and hot and fresh, but not so much currently. If they have a profitability issue, they'll have trouble saving their way into better times. We know Miguel has retired - even though he did come back for awhile to substitute - and he will be missed. The place ran like a top when he was in charge, and it needs management attention now. We hope Pepe's gets back to the old basics which kept them competitive for so long. The loss of Miguel is really obvious. I placed my to-go order. I SHOULD have checked to make sure all the food which totaled over $80 was there, but I didn't. Drove home only to see that my dinner was missing. I called and told them I was coming back for my taco dinner, tacos and the beans and rice were missing. When I got there, David said he could refund my tacos and then I can buy a taco dinner. I told him I requested a taco DINNER. Apparently, I was charged for only 2 tacos. I have a soft spot for Pepe's it was my family's go to Mexican restaurant growing up. When I went on Cinco De Mayo I expected it to be an interesting experience but I could never have expected how wonderful it would have been. We originally sat in the bar while waiting for the other people in our party to arrive. We had a few margaritas and some stuffed nachos. Our bartended was beyond amazing. Be careful ordering through Uber Eats! Toddler is a picky eater that will not eat melted cheese. Contacted the restaurant that I was coming to get part of my order replaced for being incorrect. Supervisor yelled to contact Uber Eats; he was more concerned with telling me that they don't get the "notes" on their end. When I drove to restaurant Juan the supervisor was still trying to show me what they could not see the notes on his end again and to contact Uber. We go here often because my elderly mother lives very close. The service, food, and drinks are always very good. If you like heat, ask for their extra hot salsa - it is not listed on the menu but they have it if you ask the server. It is excellent! Will definitely return and recommend! read more

A customer of many years, the last couple of times I've been in the Tinley Park location, it feels dirty. Service is HORRIBLE and the food always comes out with issues! Hard flour shells, frozen lettuce, food served Luke warm at best! horrible experience today for lunch! Will not be back! Pepe's was recommended to me by an acquaintance and I have to say I was rather disappointed with my food. You can definitely tell they had been super busy the day before (Cinco De Mayo) as some workers were stocking items and cleaning up from the day before still. Our waitress was fast at first, but we did end up waiting quiet a while after our food came before she ever came back. We ended up sitting a while before we got our ticket to pay. Our table was fine, located near the front of the restaurant. They were quick to bring chips, salsa, and water. The chips were warm and the salsa tasted okay. However, I will say the food we received was very subpar. I did not like anything. We ordered chili con queso and a bowl of what looked like tomato soup and cheese - it was not good. They had an option for it to be served with tortillas or chips - we asked for the tortillas and they didn't taste fresh or homemade. When we got our food none of us were appeased by the look or taste. We ordered a combo plate and one kids meal taco plate. I didn't even take pictures of the food, because I was so underwhelmed by it all. Pretty sure they did not give us the correct enchilada on our plate, everything had the table salsa covered on it. Beans were bland and I didn't even try the rice. The tamale was dry. All items had the same meat. It was off putting: My child loves tacos and could barely eat it. They also charge heavily for drinks so our tab was a bit hefty for a Saturday lunch out with drinks being $30+ dollars for 1 $2 mimosa, 1 kids soft drink, 1 kids lemonade, and 1 $10 margarita. Wild. That ends up making a kids meal $11 if they got a drink other than water. I definitely won't be coming back. But, encourage others to try it to get their own take on it. I have been coming to this location for years. Food is usually quick and service friendly. Food is nothing fancy, but it's always the same, reliable quality. On my last visit, service was a little off. With the influx of to go orders and guests coming from both entrances the host staff seemed very overwhelmed. They just lost a customer. Their food is great, but they've overpriced takeout. A steak burrito dinner, and steak and chicken fajitas cost me over $50. We could have gone somewhere else, and enjoyed a drink too, for that price. Online their download menu shows much more reasonable prices, but I guess they charge what they want when you get there. If the online prices are out of date, that's false advertising. BTW, they charge almost 3% for using a credit card, and I was prompted for a tip for picking up my own food. Have a great business. Well this one was better quality wise than the one I went to in S Cicero ave in Midlothian. I guess it's because it's in the nicer suburban area of Tinley Park right next to Menards and Amish furniture as well as some other stores which is why they're are more clientele versus the one in Midlothian which was a standalone. All in all the food was not bad it's an '80s relic that I remember seeing as old well it's actually older but I remember seeing the TV commercials In the 80s. In regards to the service they were very attentive the servers. A little pricey especially just ordering guacamole at $7 despite that they give you chips and salsa I usually like to eat a guacamole but $7 for just the smaller version oh that's too expensive I'll just eat the salsa. I ordered three beef tacos despite that I didn't take any pictures cuz I was out and about coming from bachelor's Grove cemetery that day as a bucket list now that I know where bachelor's Grove cemetery is and it's not too far from this Pepe's restaurant. Again kind of remember the '80s commercial how long has it been since I've been to Pepe's LOL. The beef tacos were freshly made with all the vegetables and mole that's traditional and I added guacamole in my tacos for an extra $0.50 more. I did not know they had a dessert menu and they're fried ice cream was decent but what can you expect for a $2.50 fried ice cream. This would be good for a decent but cheap date to take out without breaking the bank and still have decent food eating Mexican cuisine. My family and I visited Pepe's yesterday. The food was good. However, when the check was brought to me, I was told to take to the cash register. I did not think nothing of it until I saw all of the white people checks taking from their server and brought back to them. All of the black people had to take their checks to the cash register. My server was David, very nice but was not accommodating in that situation. I noticed a black couple in front of me paying at register as well. This made my visit very unpleasant. This place made us sick, literally sick. If I could give them a zero, I would. My family visited on August 12. Two of us ordered the "steak" burritos suizos and two of us ordered the Huachinango (Red Snapper). The meat in the burrito was sold to us as steak but it clearly was chunky ground beef and it tasted very bad. Also, the cheese on the burrito wasn't Mexican cheese, it was unmelted square slices of cheap American cheese instead of good quality Mexican white cheese that they're suppose to use. The "Mexican" rice tasted like something that came out of a cheap instant rice box and it was topped with sauce that tasted like ketchup. The beans tasted like a cheap version from a tin can. The horchata was bland and tasteless, I asked them to remake it and it was the same tasteless water with what appeared like rice powder or rice mildew. The salsa was cheap and tasteless. It tasted like severely watered down ketchup with diced onions thrown in. The Huachinango (Red Snapper) was HORRIBLE! The fish tasted like it was frozen (for a very long time) and not thawed before it was thrown into the fryer. It tasted old and dried out. After two of us ate some of the fish, we ended up in the toilet for several hours. It started with cramping and got progressively worse after that. I'll spare the ugly details but it was very painful. I reported our ordeal to the Health Department. Never ever again will I step foot into that establishment. read more

What has happened to this restaurant??? This used to be my (and my family's) go to place for Mexican. What we experienced two days ago was disappointing to say the least. The margaritas were watered down to what looked like tinted water, and the food was atrocious. My enchilada dinner was inedible...tasted like rubber. My sister and her family had eaten there two days previous and had the same experience. I don't know if they changed cooks or changed management, but the results are disastrous. I'm going to assume that kitchen personnel also changed, the waitstaff has DEFINITELY changed. The food quality has gone downhill while the prices have gone up.
