Yum! Can't go wrong with some Korean BBQ! Peppa's never disappoints. Literally every time I walk by this place, there is always at least 1 person eating or ordering food. Pretty standard local korean bbq fare, but that's how I like it! They have plates of a bunch of different combinations of meats, so chances are you'll be able to get both of your favorites (mean jun and bbq chicken for me!). They also have a good selection of sides that never change-- my favorites are the long rice, seaweed, and potato salad. Also, great for catering! We were having some people over but not enough to justify getting their catering portions. Instead, we asked for 10 of the exact same combo plates and we asked for the items to be packed separately (like all the rice in one container, all the chicken in another, etc). Quality ingredients: We especially love the myriad offerings of banchan. And the meat jun's meat to egg ratio. Super-size portions: One plate with the 4-sides and 2 scoops of rice can usually feed both of us and we still have leftovers to make a quick fried rice the next morning. Fast Service: You can order when you get there and wait 3-5 minutes, because the entree items are cooked to order or you call ahead and your order is ready when you arrive; either way the counter staff are constantly making sure selections and orders are getting filled as quickly as possible. read more

It's been a few years since my last visit but I've changed my mind about Peppa's for a few reasons... My usual Korean spot has gone a bit downhill and I decided to visit Peppa's for a BBQ chicken plate. It's fairly easy to park in the little strip mall which is always appreciated especially when you've got three kids. Although it's fairly busy on the weekends they take your order quickly and you don't have to wait forever for your good. Also always appreciated when you've got three kids. The portions are hefty with lots of protein and a ton of veggies. I can feed my husband, myself and one child on a single plate. Again, always appreciated when you've got three kids. Not the most phenomenal Korean food you will ever eat, but that usually takes more time and money to access. This is a solid choice for working moms and hungry families in a hurry! read more

I have been coming here for a while now .. and it's sad that I have never written a review about this establishment! For shame Aneisa! Places like this are always iffy. Not every Korean joint will be decent ... With that being said, I really love this place. I used to frequent Yummys when I wanted a fast food dealio. But, since this place had been very close to where I used to live a while back, I gave it a shot. Boy. I'm glad I did. It's true, they are kinda pricey for their food. However, they give large portions out for each plate. So to me, the portion size makes up for the prices. Every time I go there, I ALWAYS get the tofu soup with the 4 choice side of banchan and rice. I am in love with the soup! It's about the only thing I eat when I am under the weather. I never really ever finish it, so it ends up being two meals for me, which is stellar :D My soup is always piping hot, and always filled with tons of veggies, tofu and shredded beef. Soo good. I'm never disappointed. The other plate I usually get is the Peppa Special ... it's exactly like the Yummy Special .. Kalbi, BBQ Chicken and Bulgogi with your 4 choices of banchan, rice, one fried mandoo and a fried zucchini. Argh ... So craving that right now! One thing I have to point out is, not a lot of 'fast food' korean places make their bancan great. I know everyone has their taste preferences ... but, its a deal breaker for me if your banchan sucks. Been coming here for YEARS! Can't believe I never left a review. This place is bomb.com. Massive plate lunch. Food enough for 2.5 average people. I always go for the barbecue mix plate with chicken and kalbi and order 8-10 mandoo on the side for my keiki. A bit pricey ($20-$22/plate) but worth it. The potato salad is definitely a guilty pleasure and requires gym membership after completing this meal. Lol! read more

In case you didn't know, "mainland" is the all-encompassing term for the rest of the continental United States of America according to a small population of people on a set of islands known as Hawaii. I'd be curious to find out whether or not Alaska does the same. Anyway, YO MAINLAND!!! Korean BBQ takeout!!! It's a concept you need to jump on, now, in order to make my life complete. Sure, there's exemplary Korean food on the mainland, perhaps some that is better than in Hawaii, but nowhere have I found the equivalent to the Hawaiian insta-to-go version. Think about how easy life would be if you could: 1) Choose your combo of meat and if you want mandoo 2) While the meat gets cooked, choose your 2-4 sides--some traditional (japchae, seaweed, cucumber/chili), some with Hawaiian flava (mac salad) 3) Once the meat is done and added to the plate, you can a) eat there (no wait service, super casual, not fussy) b) be on your way! In general, it's also worlds cheaper than Korean food on the mainland. Peppa's was the nearest Korean BBQ place to my high school and I remember the upperclassmen with off-campus privileges making everyone else jealous bringing back Peppa's for lunch. This place is hands down my favorite place to get food while in Makiki! Reasonably priced food that's delicious, relatively healthy, and made to order makes me happy every time. I have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed with the food or service. Parking can be hard to find when it's busy but that's how it with most places. Inside the restaurant, a handful of 4 person tables and a long, wrap-around table can be found. Most of the time I get my food to go, but sometimes I eat in. My favorite thing to get is the BBQ Chicken plate because it's only $11 for a lot of food. It comes with four sides, three large pieces of chicken, and two scoops of rice. Is Peppa's the greatest place to grab a Korean take-out plate? No, but it sure is damn good and with the portions they give at the prices they charge, you would be pretty insane to avoid it. The plate lunches are your standard fare, but the portions are very good sized. More than you would get at any other place in town. The BBQ chicken is good and solid, the meat jun good as well, and so is their kalbi. The other menu items are decent, but nothing that would make you go wow. The plate lunches come with 2-4 vegetable sides and their macaroni salad is good. Their kim chee is great and so is their shoyu potatoes. That being said all of the other veggies are solid and definitely are nice touches to go with your meat. Service is quick and efficient, but don't expect warm and fuzzy. I've been going to Peppa's for a long time . . . more so recently than in the past. It's my usual go-to / default choice when I'm hungry / craving some good 'ole Korean BBQ. I first came to Peppa's when I moved to Hawai'i for college (11 years ago), and I've loved it since. Their Korean BBQ is ON-POINT, and their prices are a little higher these days, but still worth it because their portions are huge and their food is really good. I don't order the same thing every time--I try to order something different each time. So far, I like everything! lol You can order a regular plate, a mini, or a combo plate. Regular plates come with 4 side choices (they have a pretty good variety of stuff to choose from: i.e., cucumber AND cabbage kim chee, shoyu potato, potato salad, egg fu yung, mac salad, long rice, corn, seaweed, choi sum, sprouts). I do wish they had tegu. (Gina's BBQ does, but they don't have as much variety as Peppa's does.) Mini plates come with 2 side choices. Combo plates come with 4 sides (same as regular plates). Their mini plate portions are still pretty generous compared to most other BBQ/local plate lunch spots. I highly recommend their: meat jun (fish jun is pretty good too), spicy pork, BBQ chicken, mandoo, and kalbi. I also recommend their Peppa's Special (comes with BBQ chicken, Kalbi, and beef) and yuk gae jang. I haven't had their bibimbap yet - that'll be for another review ;) If you do order a plate, try ordering 4 pieces of mandoo, too. Such a good supplement to anything on their menu (or by themselves). Note: their more popular side choices run out around or before dinnertime (7:30pmish to closing time, 9pm) (i.e., egg fu yung, potato salad, sweet potato, long rice, and mac salad). A word on their drinks. I usually order a drink with my food when I don't want to bother drinking anything I got at home. Their drinks are the usual soft drinks. If you're driving and you plan on ordering their large drink (which is a pretty good price for a large drink; I think it's also cheaper to get the bigger drink than the smaller ones), make sure you have a large cup holder in your car. I made this mistake a few times - the large drink won't fit in your standard-sized car cup holder. Unless you came with someone who's riding shotgun or in the backseat who will be tasked with holding the food and drinks, don't be swayed by the cheaper large drink. Get the medium-sized and you won't make the mistakes I've made before (moral of the story is: get the medium drink or you'll spill it on your way to your car and/or in your car). Staff is usually very nice. I usually call in and have my order(s) picked up. They're always pleasant on the phone and in-person. Parking, however, is another story. If you frequent the Makiki area, especially the Makiki Shopping "Village," you know what I'm talking about. The parking there sucks period. But if you can find parking, props because trust when I say, the food at Peppa's is worth it! If you can't find parking your first go-around, round it one or two more times until you do. Someone's bound to leave (the Pizza Hut, Bubble Tea booth, Makiki Nails, Subway, Fantastic Sam's, Wine Cellar, or the Video Store below). If you plan on eating at the venue, it has just about the same amount of space that most local eateries in Hawai'i have. It's not huge, but it works. I've only eaten there a few times (I usually phone in), and I was fortunate to have done so when it wasn't as crowded (which is usually, from my own experience, around lunchtime and early dinnertime, 5-730pmish). Lastly, I love how they ask if I want a chopstick or fork. Having lived in Hawai'i for about 10 years now, it's pretty rare for someone to ask me if I want a chopstick or fork, no less a chopstick even. (I have this feeling that they automatically assume that I want a fork instead of chopstick.) Anyhow, I love how they give us the option. Food is average, service is horrible. We've been going here like 20 years, but today the cashier was so incredibly rude to me that I'm never coming back. Came to pick up a phone order, cashier asked if I wanted a receipt. "Yes, please" I said. She pulls it out and as I'm taking it away to put in my wallet (don't want to touch anything else in the store because of covid), she absolutely yells at me "Sign"!!!! Ordering me around like she was a Catholic Nun that was going to beat me unless I took her pen and signed the receipt. I'm over 50 years old by the way and the cashier was around 30 from the looks of her. I don't understand why I had to sign if she wasn't going to give me a receipt in the first place? It just doesn't seem necessary in a covid world. In any case, I've never been treated so poorly by a cashier. I have to say I'm a little biased as this is probably one of the only Korean BBQ places I've been to (going since high school). The prices are okay 8-10 dollars a plate, considering you can share a plate with someone and have plenty of food. My husband and I usually get the fish jun and meat jun combo, but I have also had their bbq chicken and their kalbi. I love their meat jun, a perfect balance between savory and sweet meat. What makes Peppas so good are their sides. My favorites are the sweet shoyu potato, long rice, cucumber kim chee, cabbage, and mayo potato salad. They are the perfect pair to your entrée and I love them so much I would get a plate of just veggies in the future. You can order brown rice instead of white, and can also sub a veggie if you don't want rice (this is a good deal since each side alone is $2+). Our last meal I did this and just added a scoop of rice for a dollar. The soft drinks are a great deal at 1.45 for a 44 oz. Peppas is a half a block from my house so I go at least once a month! read more

Full disclosure: I live in Makiki, and Peppa's has a special little place in my heart simply for being within super-easy walking distance and for not being Pizza Hut. While I suspect that I may be giving it an extra star based entirely on its convenience, I just can't bring myself to give it 3 stars. The location and ease of service (they're downright speedy!) is too perfect. On to the review: As other reviewers have said, the food here is, for the most part, mediocre to just-above-mediocre. However, when that meat jun craving hits (and if you are anything like me, it is only a matter of time), Peppa's delivers cheap, plentiful and tasty-enough product, normally in just a handful of minutes. Is it the best meat jun that you will ever have? No, but it is certainly not bad- it is perfectly satisfactory for quashing those cravings in a timely and convenient manner, and the hot sauce that they provide with it makes it my go-to for such emergencies. For around $10 per regular plate (comes with heaps of rice and the entree as well as 4 vegetable choices), the portions are enormous, and I normally end up with enough leftovers for two extra meals. Peppa's finally gave me - a female - enough side starch to be full. I've loved their food for a long time. It's consistent and delicious especially the Kalbi and bbq chicken and chicken katsu. HOWEVER -- each time that I - a female- would stand and wait patiently for my turn to announce my sides, I would always be disappointed at the tiny amount of potato, corn, or bean sprouts etc that i was served. Tonight I bought a regular kalbi plate, which I assume comes with 2 pieces of mandoo, which I didn't get. Not only that as the cashier was bagging my plate she and I noticed that there was a leak on the bottom of the plate. She wiped it up only to reveal which was a burn from the hot meat She was just going to bag it and not tell me. So I asked her is that a hole in the plate? Then she goes, do you want us to change it? After the fact. Like bitch please. If your open till 9 at least give the customer your full and undivided attention rather than trying to rush them out and forgetting items cause you want to go home! My daughter recently turned me on to this place, normally I'm skeptical of take out Korean food, okay but usually dried out, over cooked. I had the Peppas special to try the different barbecue meats and the banchan. Two pieces of Kalbi was tasty, barbecue chicken tasty and tender, and the barbecue meat was good sliced pieces, not small bits of leftovers. Banchan was also tasty and alway plentyful. Live nearby, always a regular here because the food is good, huge portions and service is very fast service. I always get the kalbi or meat Jun and or fried mandoo. Though the Mandoo size seems quite small compared to other Korean places but still I love mandoo and I keep ordering it. The kalbi is very good, succulent with the right amount of burn on the meat. I love their variety of sides dishes which includes veggies cabbages, kimchee, potatoes, long rice and even daikon. Our first time ordering at Peppas Korean Bbq tonight we had 2 Kal bi plates, 1 bbq chicken plate and the meat Jun plate . The food on all plates were delicious and prepared perfectly. The food portions were big and well worth the money ! The Kal bi actually had a big piece of meat on it not just the meat arond the bone like most places do. They put a paper between the meat and rice with was a pleasing change . No food juice on my rice unless I want it that way . Very neat looking . I used to come here two to three times a week, but only come every few months now. It seems like the prices seem to keep rising every time I visit yet they haven't been as generous with their sides as they had been in the past. It always seems like they are rationing out the potato salad with barely a scoop yet they pile on the corn. They made up for the sad side with the meat portion today. The meat was fresh off the fire so it made for an even better experience. The have managed to spruce up the place a bit and removed the center counter and replaced it with two tables for four. It makes the place look bigger and brighter for sure. I really liked how the ladies were attentive to the weather and when it continued to sprinkle, one of them pulled out the slip resistant mats and placed them in front of the doors. The concern I have is with the fact that when she went to wash her hands after handling the mats, she only sprinkled a bit of water on them. I know because I saw her rinsing them from where I sat. She should have fully emersed her hands in the water and cleansed them thoroughly with soap. This leaves me a bit concerned with cleanliness since she was the primary food server. This really makes me want to give them a two star, but I am wishing for 2.5 star. Lol. read more

"Yeah, I'll go for that!" is what I hope is your response. I know it is not Chinese food but it sure feels like it is in the same style sometimes. I like dim sum so an order of mandoo seems similar to me. Taste and flavors are similar. I like it. It is similar to pot stickers without the burnt parts. Getting a great order of mandoo is comfort food to me big time. I like the meat jun and fish jun. Anything fired in an egg has me happy. I like the thinly sliced beef. I like all the sides that they have behind the glass so that I can pick something 'healthy.' Staff- straight forward- what do you want- 'yelled order behind them' what sides- on plate, pay, next. Seating- small area. Mainly designed to get people to get take out. Parking- small area- Mainly designed to get people to phone ahead- drive up have 1 person run in to get the order, pay and run out with hot food in the still running car so that you can make the next green light out of Wilder. I dont understand why they dont cut the meat jun...but hey maybe you can ask? ...but the their customer service is horrors!!! My bf purchased a meat jun plate then asked for hot sauce. They gave him one very tiny plastic container, only half way filled, that if you are lucky, held 1 oz of korean hot sauce... So he asked for another one...the korean lady gave it to him, then on the side tells the man next to her (maybe son? Idk..) "he wants 2 hot sauce" like it was the nastiest thing she ever heard?!!!! Really?!!! Doesnt stop there!! Then the man gives my bf the stare down!!! Really? This man was staring down a customer that just paid $14 for a plate and drink, who asked for 2 tiny sauces?!!!!
