TL;DR Excellent plate lunch offerings at a very reasonable price. ----- One Plus One is the ultimate no-frills spot. My theory is that they were once an L&L franchise but decided to branch off on their own. The menu is very similar to most L&L restaurants with some additional offerings, as well as a few Chinese dishes. I recommend placing a phone order about 10-15 minutes before your anticipated pickup. The food is prepared and served relatively quickly. My usual order is a combination plate. I almost always stick with the garlic basa. It's a basa fillet sauteed with garlic and served with a lemon slice. Delicious. And then I mix up the second option depending on how I feel. Very often it's chicken katsu; I love pairing the crunch of the katsu with the soft flakiness of the basa. I've also mixed and matched the BBQ chicken, garlic chicken, and fries basa. Everything I've ordered has been great, and the portions are huge! Each choice in the combo plate includes two pieces (e.g., two big pieces of garlic basa). So four pieces of protein total. One Plus One won't blow you away with innovation, but you will definitely be full and satisfied. read more

Today being a Saturday, I didn't want to have the same sort of food which passes for a meal on a typical workday. Neither did I want to go to some high-end place which boasts quality food but is possibly accompanied by poor or indifferent service. I wanted somewhere close-by which wouldn't require me to invest time getting there. Considering how I was feeling and reacting to various options today, someone first suggested Rainbow Drive-In. A bit too far for a low-energy day, although it otherwise might have fit the bill. Next, One Plus One Drive Inn was mentioned as a closer option which featured Chinese food. I wasn't exactly looking for Chinese food today, mostly local options, but One Plus One otherwise worked, so rather than beginning to amass a list of options and finding flaws with each one, I just decided to try it. I had never been there before, but I've passed by many times and even popped in once while on my way to Down to Earth. Today, I went in and looked at the menu and the first thing which caught my eye was Roast Pork with Gravy. I ordered at one window, then sat down. A short while later, the other window opened and I heard "roast pork." I walked over to the other room with tables, then sat down to eat. It was nice and clean, with cool air circulating. The roast pork fit what I was looking for nicely. A generous, tasty portion of meat along with plenty of rice and a scoop of mac salad. This time I told my husband let's go back since I was at longs drugs across the street and ordered Chinese chicken salad. Well with the picture I took says it all. I didn't realize that it was BBQ Chicken slices with the salad vegetables. I said wow who makes this kind of salad. Only thing was good was their salad dressing. This place has a lot of variety and Chinese food is one of them. We did the same thing we do every time we come here. Ordered the chicken katsu mini. Still awesome bargain and tasty. Yummy yum yum. The katsu is cooked perfectly and the mini only gives you one scoop of rice three layers of chicken and Mac salad. There's only four tables to dine in. We go here before the UH games. The place accors the street is delicious. It there more value at this place. Hungry? This place will fill your stomach and some. 1+ one Drive-in offer is great local plate lunches and a very reasonable price. Their house noodles with barbecue chicken can feed four people! And the barbecue mix plate which consists of one hamburger steak, one piece, teriyaki meat, and a choice of beef stew or beef curry with two scoops of white rice and a macaroni salad will definite you put you to sleep for days. The food here is very consistent. The noodles are stirfried very well and you can get that wok taste . Whatever protein you choose they have a perfect balance of the protein and noodles. This places is solid! Super fast service and plenty food. The pricing was super reasonable too, especially for the amount they give you. And the food taste so good. Christmas Day and I arrived early but needed to eat. Not sure what was open, and I tried Chinatown but parking was impossible, so I just headed to my bud's place on King. I saw that 1+1 was open and I wanted to try them, so why not. Small parking lot, but found a spot on the street. When I walked in... Me: Can I order something to go? They ordered huge trays of chow mein, Chinese chicken salad, mochiko chicken, chicken katsu, teriyaki beef, fried fish and eggplant tofu. Everything that I tried on my plate was fantastic. My favorites were the Chinese chicken salad and teriyaki beef. The salad greens were crisp and fresh. It paired nicely with the chicken, crispy wontons and the salad dressing. I just love this place! They have so many items on their menu and most of them are good! The prices were so reasonable when i first started to come here and it is still reasonable even when they have to raise the prices over the years! They have good cooks and everything I've tried was pretty good. My go to items were the fishes from garlic basa, fry fish, garlic ahi and salmon. I started to like the pan fried garlic chicken and mochiko chicken. Wow, the mochiko chicken had a lot of taste! Really tasty. The chicken wings were pretty good too! My new go to favorite is the Teri chicken fried rice (thanks Daniel C for the tip) but I got it in place of rice and salad with the garlic chicken for $4.75 extra! So many big chicken pieces were in my fried rice and they were nice to make it without eggs for me! Great portion too! They have some chairs and table to dine in their air conditioned place or take out. Just not always easy to get a parking space here. This is the perfect spot if you don't know what you're craving. There's so many different options for plate lunches and they also offer big trays for events and parties. The portions are HUGE and so affordable! I can't finish one plate by myself but it's perfect since I can share with someone else. Today we got different plates and just shared so we could try everything we were craving. A foodie recommended One Plus One Drive Inn to me so I decided to give them a try. They are located on King St across of Kahai Street Kitchen (Coolidge St). There is a small lot that's shared with the liquor store but there is only 4, maybe 5 stalls. The lot was full when I arrived so I parked next to the dumpster. When you enter, you'll notice the order window, pick up window and the room to dine in with several tables. The restaurant is cozy with lots of natural light. It is a little warm inside so if you want to just pay and go then make a phone order. My foodie friend was raving about their fried rice and said the garlic chicken plate was legit. We ordered exactly what she raved about but with all rice on the garlic chicken plate since we don't eat mac salad. The fried rice we opted for was the teri chicken fried rice. It was moderately busy but the kitchen didn't take long to get our order out. The plates were hot and heavy when the order was ready. Everything was good and tasty. One Plus One = Yummy!! This was a lazy not sure what I want didn't want to spend a lot but didn't want to drive too far but just a small simple meal to settle a slight hanger. Well it did all that but it sure wasn't simple and it sure wasn't small...this place is like a marriage of Chinese and local food put together plate lunch style. The menu here is quite massive so if you're indecisive like me which feeling picky didn't help at all, I did take much more than a moment to decide and that's where some pictures do help which they did have of the Garlic Eggplant Tofu...ooo! For mom it was easy as she loves Cold Ginger Chicken and when all plate lunches came in regular and mini making it a perfect size. Like I said it's like a Chinese food served plate lunch style all plates do include 2 scoops rice and 1 scoop of Mac salad and mini was one of each we didn't expect the Ginger Chicken to have it as well and mom was giggling with pleasure to see that lol! The rice was perfectly cooked and Mac Salad had great ratio of mayo and macaroni and carrots my Garlic Eggplant Tofu was cooked perfectly the seasoning and gravy spot on yummy! We finally found a place that hand grate ginger for the Cold Ginger Chicken that wasn't just loaded with green onion...sorry forgot a picture of that :-( and that mini was huge! I've been told about this place for quite some time and finally gotten a chance to give them a try...the only thing is parking...yup yup sharing with another tenant the four stalls are impossible as many do force park around you making getting out a challenge so be careful. Decent quality, portions, consistency and pricing when compared to other similar establishments especially nowadays. Good customer service never had issues any real issues with them given the numerous times weve ordered with them only one or two minor mix ups but they always made up for it even though i told them not necessary!
