I tend to like Pepper lunch as a Chain elsewhere, but not sure if the quality of the beef at this location didn't feel the same? Service was good and it's a nice area, but felt I got less beef than usual and they were less tasty than I remember. I'd still return when back in the area again, since it's nice to have the option around ASU campus

I gave this place a try last night for dinner with my friends. We were quickly greeted as we walked in and the worker gave us a quick rundown of how it worked. I ordered a chicken and beef bowl and added mushrooms and onions as it already came with garlic, pepper, and corn. My total with a drink was $28. Toppings are added and are about $1.99 each. My food came out superr fast. I had just sat down when the worker was already bringing me my hot sizzling plate. I waited a few minutes for it to continue to sizzle and I then gave it a good mix. Everything cooked well and it smelled so good. I added the two sauces that were on the table for some extra flavor and asked for some hot sauce as well. I do wish they had soy sauce available as that would've made the bowl more flavorful. The staff was friendly and it was clean and well lit inside. Will be back!

I came during the soft opening. The Hamburg with curry and onions is tasty. I need to go back to try other dishes. The hot sizzling plate can cook sliced onions quickly. The plate did not stay hot the whole time so no need to be worried. The rice is fluffy and tasty. I wish there are more vegetables. The two sauces (garlic soy and sweet brown) on the table are tasty additions to the meal. No spicy chili here.

Been waiting for Pepper Lunch to make its Arizona appearance! The restaurant is located on Mill near ASU campus, so parking can be difficult. The nearest parking garage is the Mill Ave one, but you have to pay. The restaurant itself is clean and a decent size. All employees I interacted with were so sweet and helpful. There are two screens for self-ordering and it's super easy to navigate. You've got choices of rice/protein, pasta, and curry rice. The bowls are pretty customizable. My favorite is the kimchi beef, which already comes with toppings such as corn and cheese. You can add additional toppings for an extra cost per topping. It does have a good kick, but the sweet brown sauce provided at the table helps mellow out the spice. I also really enjoyed the sweet potato fries--they have a nice crisp. The yuzu cheesecake was okay for me. The consistency wasn't really fluffy but more mousse-like imo.

I've been to the Vegas Pepper Lunch, so I was excited to try the one that opened up in Tempe at ASU! My family and I came for lunch and shared a regular beef Pepper Lunch as well as a side of chicken karaage. Major shoutout to the staff, who greeted us immediately upon entry and were very kind throughout the visit, asking us if we needed anything/were always willing to help. The facility was clean and I even saw the staff busy cleaning the glass windows, where you could see into the kitchen. First, the side of chicken karaage was actually one of the best I have had! It was $4.50 and came with around 5-6 pieces of perfectly fried chicken. The classic beef pepper lunch had beef that was pretty bland, but tasted better with the added sauces. I also liked the corn and rice seasoning. My only wish is that it came with a better, less fattier cut of meat as well as more meat. I suppose you can pay an extra $4 for the Jumbo version of the Beef Pepper Lunch for extra meat... Overall, a great place to eat. Just expect to pay for parking or shark for street parking since it is on campus and they do not have parking validation.

Been awaiting for Pepper Lunch to open up in the valley for a long time now and it's finally here. I first had it in California almost a decade ago along with Vegas and it hits every time. They're located on the ASU campus so expect paid garage parking and a walk. Open space and large seating is great for big parties and self order kiosk. I ordered my usual sliced beef with rice and it tasted as expected. *written during 1st day of soft opening, experiences may vary

Food is a bit pricey but very tasty! The staff here was very friendly and the place was very clean. Food came out very quickly! I got a side of teriyaki sauce and it was the right amount of sweetness that the dish needed. They also offer a garlic soy and sweet brown sauce for free. Will be back!

Food was surprisingly very yummy despite seeming so simple. To me it is a bit pricey considering it is just beef rice and corn, and each added topping is about $2 each. I do appreciate that it is tasty and filling. You order through a touch screen and can sit down inside to eat.

Super friendly staff. Interior was nice and not super overwhelming. ASU students get a discount. 2 stars from me due to the flavor, as it just wasn't there. The sauces didn't do much either. Maybe I will try it again and add different toppings, however, extra toppings are charged separately and are quite expensive for the amount you get. If you are craving pepper lunch, I would recommend trying some place else. At least for now.

I've been here a few times already & i've decided that the cream chicken noodle is probably my favorite. Would recommend to anyone looking for an alternative to the rice. The service has been surprisingly very good & consistent too each time i've come here. Only negative thing is parking but that's not really their fault. ASU is really dedicated to giving out parking tickets so don't park somewhere where you shouldn't be :( lol. You have the choice of the limited (but free) togo parking or the $4/hour parking structure.

Staff were so friendly here!! The guy at the counter even offered an ASU student discount before I asked. He was very informative as well. I've had pepper lunch a few times, and this holds up to be just as good as the other times! Highly recommend using a lot of sauce on the beef pepper rice. My friend said that the kimchi beef was amazing; she added an egg. The restaurant was PRISTINE and had a lot of seating available. Also, when I left the restaurant I forgot my wallet, and let me tell you, the server SPRINTED to me to give it back. Hot, fresh, and quick, highly recommend and I will be coming back soon.

I was so excited when I heard Pepper Lunch opened in town as I loved it on my travels in China. Sadly what I got was this appetizer sized rice bowl for $15, no sizzling platter that literally makes Pepper lunch so good. You also lose a star for having mandatory automated ordering without passing on some of those savings to the customer. Do better.

I've been waiting for this day to come - Pepper Lunch in Arizona! I'm the biggest fan of their beef pepper lunch and the ribeye. The location is far from where I live BUT its nice that the parking garage is just a few feet away from the restaurant which is convenient because Tempe can be busy on Friday nights! The ambiance is clean, bright, and the servers were helpful. Placing our orders were straightforward- use the machine, pick your dish, you can easily customize your dish by adding or subtracting ingredients. Pricing is okay. The steak is pricey! I think the combos are worth the price. The food is great. Its just how I remember it, but be sure to remember to flip the meats for it to cook evenly. Sometimes I get so into the conversation that I forget to pay attention to my food. People start coming in around 6pm! So we really didnt wait long to order and the food came out after 10 mins! Overall, I love the service, the food, and the ambiance BUT I do wish there's a Pepper Lunch near me!

While we were waiting they sat another 4 with us. We all expected dinner & a "show", but none of us expected the show we got. One of the staff started screaming at another staff member. We had no idea what the female staff member was saying since her words were not in English. She was so loud & screaming in the bar area so the entire restaurant could hear her. A couple of staff members tried to claim her dow. This went on for several minutes. It was crazy. All us customers were silent & just looking at the girl screaming & yelling. The next thing we know, round two. It was unbelievable. What was even crazier was they didn't send the staff member home! No one came over & said a word. No one apologized or said anything. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. The restaurant is fairly large, and seems like a lot of people like coming here for family/friend dinners. Like the name insists, the teppanyaki is the way to go. Their menu isn't that large, so it was pretty easy to make a decision. I opted for the filet mignon (rare) along with shrimp. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. We ordered a wide variety of rolls and each was really good. The pieces themselves were huge, which made the regular price worth it if you were to order them not during happy hour. I especially liked the eel and cucumber roll. The eel was nicely cooked and each piece was decently-sized. My one complaint was that some of the rolls took way too long to get to the table. The last roll we ordered more toward the end of the night was the dragon roll and I feel like that took at least 20-30 minutes to come out. It wasn't that busy in there throughout the two hours we were there. Overall, though, the size of the rolls and the freshness was certainly there. I called the restaurant to see if there was any chance they could bring my order out to the car, and they didn't hesitate for a second. They were so kind and told me that as soon as my food was ready, they'd bring it right out to me--and they did! It's those small acts of kindness that leave a lasting impression. Going above and beyond for a busy mom in 100+ degree weather might seem like a little thing, but it made my day so much easier. As for the food... the Hibachi Chicken burrito was SO good! My husband and I chose Benihana in Chandler to celebrate his birthday, and what should have been a special evening ended with us walking out after over an hour without receiving a single drink or any food. We had an 8:00 PM reservation and arrived about five minutes early. Despite there being virtually no one at the host stand, we weren't acknowledged for over seven minutes. Once we were finally greeted, we were told to wait "just a few minutes." That turned into another 10 minutes before we were seated. We intentionally chose seats in the middle of the hibachi table because we wanted to enjoy the chef's performance. Once seated, our server promptly took both our drink and dinner orders since we were already behind due to the delays. We thought things were finally moving in the right direction. Unfortunately, they weren't. About 35 minutes after we were seated, a host came over and asked us to move so another family could sit together. We reluctantly agreed, even though it was inconvenient. When I asked our server when the chef would begin cooking, she explained that we had to wait for the newly seated party to order. That is completely unacceptable. We made a reservation, arrived early, ordered immediately, and yet we were expected to sit there indefinitely because another party arrived later and hadn't even placed their order yet. Why should our experience be delayed because of someone else's schedule? To make matters worse, the children at the table were incredibly disruptive and disrespectful throughout the entire wait. When we politely mentioned it to the parents, the response we received was, "They're kids, let them do what they want." There was no consideration for anyone else trying to enjoy their meal or celebrate a special occasion. Staff never stepped in to address the situation. After waiting over an hour from our reservation time, we still had not received our drinks, no chef had started cooking, and no food had been served. At that point, we had enough. We got up and left. This wasn't just a disappointing dinner. It completely ruined my husband's birthday celebration. We chose Benihana because we expected a fun, memorable experience, and instead we left frustrated, hungry, and feeling like our time and special occasion meant nothing. This level of service is unacceptable, especially for a restaurant that requires reservations and markets itself as an experience. A reservation should actually mean something. I expect someone from management or the General Manager to contact me directly regarding this experience. An apology alone will not make up for a birthday celebration that cannot be recreated. Benihana needs to take responsibility for how poorly this entire evening was handled and explain what will be done to ensure other guests celebrating special occasions are not treated the same way.

We had a fantastic server named Nick who was very attentive and made sure we were doing well with drinks and our appetizers. We ordered our main meal and I had the seared ahi, we wife had a beef dish and my son ordered the cod. All in all very good..... we told Nick we were celebrating a birthday and he brought out an ice cream that said Happy Birthday on the plate in chocolate. Enjoyed our time there and we'll be back again. Thanks for taking care of us Nick!

My favorite part of this most recent meal was the shrimp tempura roll - those never seem to fail me. Last time I really enjoyed their crab salad, but thanks to the produce scares (we live in a sad, scary society), I've been steering clear of salad from anywhere - nothing specific against you here, Kabuki. I expected their Island Mule to be sweeter, but it tasted stronger than I would've liked it to - I guess that could be a good thing to some people. Unfortunately the calamari was overcooked. It's a great portion size but the rings needed an extra strong bite to chomp through, were rubbery, and not enjoyable to eat. Staff was attentive and reassured that the order was coming even when there was a bit of a wait around dinnertime.

We came on a weekday afternoon, so it wasn't busy when we arrived. We got seated within the 10 minutes since they were setting up the tables for us. Ordering is fairly easy since they offer combos depending which meats you like more. Everything we ordered was good quality. My favorite meat cuts were the beef tongue, brisket and the intestines. If you're not into eating inside parts of animals, I would recommend getting the brisket or kalbi cuts. The Banchan (sides) were good too. They had fish cake, kimchi, pickled radish and cucumbers available. We also tried the tofu soup, steamed egg and corn cheese which all came out hot and tasted flavorful. This spot is a-la-carte, so you order off the menu and pay by items. My only downside is that they didn't have rice paper here since I don't really eat the white rice since it fills me up too quickly. Other than that, I would come back here again next time I'm visiting family. Service here was awesome too! We were checked on throughout our whole meal and the servers were friendly.
