I enjoying stopping in to grab fried rice to enjoy at home. This Thursday night is busy with Birthday parties at the hibachi grill tables. Everyone singing the birthday song of course I sang along. They have added hibachi burritos to the menu and they've several promotions I've received via email. That's what brung me here this evening.

Was shopping in Chandler Mall, and got super delayed, couldnt make reservations so just walked up to the receptionist and wanted to check if they took walk ins. Luckily it was just the two of us and it was around 8:30pm. Well, never been here, so this was a hit or miss for us. Heard alot of mixed reviews of this place. I think it also counts with the chef that you get. the chef we got, Chef Ricky was fantastic. There was only another couple on our table, but, we had a ball of a time, the chef was fun and very interactive. I, unfortunately have developed shellfish and egg allergies and everyone else had ordered egg fried rice, but, the chef was very innovative and made a special garlicy sauce for the steamed rice i was given. the A5 wagyu was cooked to perfection. I was provided with options of tofu or extra veggies, the tofu was spectacular! Over all quite a good experience for last minute walk in! Do try their sherbet ice cream and their dragon fruit cocktail as well.

Bartender Jade is such a sweetheart! She modified the dirty bowl mocktail for me so that I could order it less sweet. I was here with a group of five with friends in from out of town and we had a wonderful lunch experience! I ordered my usual Hibachi Steak rare, always love the soup and salad and all the fixins that come with lunch! Our Hibachi chef one was fantastic, so friendly funny in personable. Our server was a bit impatient and kept interrupting our conversations and over explaining things which we all found a bit off-putting. She also kept getting in the way of the photos we were trying to take with the kids with the onion volcano and it felt like she was rushing us out as soon as the meal was over so my only suggestion would be to be a bit more attentive to the dynamics of a group. We did very much appreciate the photos that were taken of the Benihana memory. Overall it was still a great experience.

Disappointing Send-Off: Safety Issues, Billing Errors, and Poor Timing Rating: 2/5 Stars We came here to celebrate my brother's 21st birthday early, as he's heading off to boot camp today. We wanted a special 'last meal' for him, but the experience was a series of massive service failures. The Service & Safety: * Allergy Oversight: My wife has a shellfish allergy and made it known immediately. While they started her meal first, the chef completely forgot the allergy when preparing the fried rice. Her rice had to be remade in the kitchen and didn't arrive until 30-40 minutes after the rest of us had got our rice. * The Drink Wait: It took 45 minutes for my Prickly Pear Margarita to arrive. * The "Show": Our chef had zero personality and was very difficult to understand. It was frustrating to watch the table next to us laughing and having a great time while our chef felt completely disengaged and had no personality or flair. The Food & Value: * Missing Courses: We were told at the end that we didn't get the dessert that was supposed to be part of our 5-course meal. * Atmosphere: The noise level was so high I could hardly hear my wife sitting right next to me. * Billing Error: When the check came, it was originally $315. We were being overcharged $62.50 for a meal we never ordered. We had to point this out just to get it corrected to the $250 total. With all of this, the food was meh. It was edible but wasn't anything amazing. It left alot to be desired. For a $250+ dinner (after corrections), the lack of attention to detail and the safety slip-up with the allergy was frustrating. This was supposed to be a memorable celebration for my brother before he leaves for service, but instead, it was just a stressful, overpriced night. We won't be returning to the Chandler location.

Everything from service to ambiance to food was excellent. And I love that they brought lunch service back to this location! Friday, Saturday, Sunday only and still make a reservation! It was busy! I wanted something fun to drink but non-alcoholic, so the bartender stopped by to help me decide. I got the Miso Sour and it was so good! This had a nice balance of flavors. I started with the Hamachi Crudo which has grapefruit ponzu, lemon mayo, Serrano pepper, and thin cucumber slices. This was so good! Refreshing with just the right amount of spice. Next I enjoyed chopped salad and miso. The salad was very fresh and had a variety of goodies including edamame, purple cabbage, and avocado. The miso is so good!! It was delicate and yet so flavorful. I chose the Yuzu tuna roll option which has spicy tuna and avocado inside, with big eye tuna on top, garnished with micro cilantro, red onion, and yuzu. This was so good! I also thought their ginger stood out - I would bet they make this in house. I can see why this always has such great reviews!

My boyfriend and I came to Shimogamo for Mother's Day and ordered the five-course meal. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing compared to our previous visit. The biggest issue was the service. Our waitress, an older woman, came across as dismissive and unnecessarily rude throughout the evening. When we were seated, she offered complimentary rosé. I accepted a glass, but my boyfriend does not drink alcohol, so he politely asked if he could order a mocktail instead. Before he could even finish, she abruptly responded, "No, you can wait to place an order for that," as if he was trying to substitute the complimentary drink, which he was not. He was simply trying to order a beverage. Later, when the braised beef course was served, my boyfriend politely asked if he could have a spoon or fork. The waitress loudly repeated "A SPOON?" in a mocking tone in front of nearby guests, which made the interaction uncomfortable and embarrassing. As for the food, the five-course menu was average at best and far below what we expected from Shimogamo. The salmon tartare and sushi course were both excellent and showed the quality we remembered from our first visit. However, the remaining courses fell flat. The fried branzino was dry and seemed poorly prepared, despite the promising flavors of capers and cream sauce. The braised short rib felt completely out of place on the menu and lacked refinement it was dry, heavy, and more reminiscent of a chain steakhouse meal than an upscale dining experience. The entire dinner also felt rushed, with little attention to pacing or hospitality. What makes this especially disappointing is that we dined here back in November on a double date and had an incredible experience. We spent over $600 that evening, and the service and food were exceptional. Our waitress at that time was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. She guided us through recommendations, and every dish impressed us. That's why this visit was so surprising. Shimogamo clearly has the ability to provide an outstanding dining experience, which makes the decline in both service and execution even more concerning. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously because this restaurant was once one of our favorites.

The restaurant is fairly large, and seems like a lot of people like coming here for family/friend dinners. Like the name insists, the teppanyaki is the way to go. Their menu isn't that large, so it was pretty easy to make a decision. I opted for the filet mignon (rare) along with shrimp. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. I felt that the portion was good for a large meal, but my friend who got the chef's combo definitely had enough for leftovers.

While we were waiting they sat another 4 with us. We all expected dinner & a "show", but none of us expected the show we got. One of the staff started screaming at another staff member. We had no idea what the female staff member was saying since her words were not in English. She was so loud & screaming in the bar area so the entire restaurant could hear her. A couple of staff members tried to claim her dow. This went on for several minutes. It was crazy. All us customers were silent & just looking at the girl screaming & yelling. The next thing we know, round two. It was unbelievable. What was even crazier was they didn't send the staff member home! No one came over & said a word. No one apologized or said anything. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. The food was good. However, hubby's steak was over cooked. Thankfully, hubby told the chef he wanted to change the steak from medium to medium rare, or it would have been even more over cooked. I also watch all of the employees but one prepping the food without gloves. This used to be our go to place for, but now with all this issues this time, we will probably have to find a new place.

I should add, this is not our first time visiting. We've visited a few times before and had pretty pleasant and efficient experiences. Nevertheless, the cook finally gets to our station after about 35-40 minutes of us checking in for your reservation. The place was pretty empty when we arrived, so it was a bit quiet of a vibe initially. From our previous experiences here and at other hibachi/teppan restaurants the cook does a great job of performing some tricks, having some fun, and incorporating us. Not this time around. It was a very rushed and very mundane. Once the cook finally finished cooking, the portions seemed smaller than we recall and the food was fine. Our bill ended up being $520, which is reasonable considering the 19% gratuity was included. It was not reasonable based on the experience as a whole. I look forward to Kobe Teppan & Sushi making the necessary changes to improve the experience for other guests.

Looked pretty good but portion looked small. But then again for costing $14 can't complain. Broth was nice and hearty and I couldn't quite figure out the flavor. Then I read the description and it said sesame.. Then it made little more sense of the flavor. I definitely would not call it spicy. Ramen noodle was nice and chewy just the way I like it..
