Not the Italian dinner vibes expected. They seated us first and then informed us we have to leave in an hour as the table was reserved for later. Well, everyone knows Italian dinners are laid back and for hours, and if you had reservations, why seat us! They took long to come and get our order which left us even shorter time to finish dinner. We found fabulous restaurant after restaurant in Rome. Peppo al Cosimato was one of our favorite lunch spots. The greens were vibrant--how is it the arugula tastes so good in Italy? The carbonara was spectacular--thank goodness it was my husband's dish and not mine (I would have been licking the emptied bowl). The wine, sparkling water and service were excellent and the busy street scene was pure Roman foot traffic. It was completely charming and the overhead cover kept us dry and comfortable during a brief rain shower. What an amazing experience. I'm excited to return. read more

We found this little spot nestled off on a side street where it was much quieter. The tables outside were close but comfortable. We enjoyed a basket of focaccia and caprese to pair with a bottle of wine. The focaccia was thicker than we'd had in the area and we really enjoyed the seasoning. The caprese was simple but tasty. We had a mix up on our pizza order where we received a mushroom pizza versus potato pizza. They quickly offered to remake it but we decided we were okay without it and they removed it from the bill. The food was marginal at best compared to similar offerings nearby. However, the larger issue was the service, which was awful. My daughter was brought a different dish than what she ordered (I was seated next to her and heard it) and the waiter would not make the order right, insisting his error was not one. He ruined our afternoon. The owner at checkout also would not remedy the issue. Do yourself a favor and choose one of the other spectacular restaurants in the area. read more

Peppo was one of our food spots on our Tour with Eating Europe. Our guide Valentina was so knowledgeable about the pasta, sauces, etc. We got to sample their margaritas pizza, their local white wine (blessed by the Pope) & red wine as well as 2 different types of pastas. One was pasta with cracked pepper and cheese, the other pasta with red sauce and seasonings. Honestly, all the food and wines were amazing, but I preferred the pasta with cheese and cracked pepper. The staff was on par and accommodated our large group in a swift and professional manner. I'd highly recommend Peppo! read more

When we got there we were kind of nervous because everything was mostly seafood, but Ahmad said they would make anything we want any way we want it. And that they did! We had the fried risotto dish, the fried cod (my friend), 2 orders of pasta and the BEST pizza I've ever had in Rome. Let us not forget the tiramisu for dessert. I normally don't love tiramisu, but this was IMPOSSIBLE not to love. I'm not sure if Ahmad own the restaurant or not, but he is certainly the face and the jewel of it! The ricotta filled crust was awesome, but the undercarriage of the pizza was a little floppy. Nonetheless, I love a thin crust! The pizza was tasty, but I think I prefer more toppings, but that's a personal preference. The aperol spritz was delicious and huge! Fantastic local Italian place with a seafood twist in a trendy neighborhood. I visited on a tuesday evening at seven pm, which is the beginning of their dinner time. The two of us shared four dishes. Octopus salad, pizza with anchovies, pasta with muscles and pepperoni cheese, and suppli. All of them were delicious. We especially enjoyed the octopus salad, which was very tender and perfectly seasoned. The pasta was also unique, something I have not seen offered at other restaurants. The pizza was fantastic, but the anchovies were a bit salty as expected. Sitting inside is abundant despite its exterior. Vibe is family oriented and romantic, and staff are very kind and friendly. I enjoyed dining there as the staff seemed to genuinely enjoy working together. I will definitely be back here on my next visit to Rome. read more

We were almost not going out that night...but finally decided to go across the street to PePPO and that was the exactly right decision. The manager greeted us on the street and had a table waiting for us in minutes. The food was delicious, the atmosphere fun, and we were invited to go back into the kitchen to help make pizza! Walked by this place on our way back to our apartment, and we picked up on the friendly and collegial neighborhood vibe. I picked up a business card, and we made a reservation for dinner the next night. When we arrived, they had our table outside reserved. We ordered wine, and since it was so hot, they brought out an ice "bucket" which as actually a plastic gift style bag--cute idea! The wine list has great variety and a range of prices. We ordered a more expensive bottle of Avellino, the best we have had so far! We had two bruschetta for antipasti: one mackerel and another with anchovies. Both were incredible!! We also had the octopus potato croquette which was everyone's favorite at the table. For dinner, we shared two pastas: one was green fettuccini with raw shrimp, and the other was spaghetti with octopus. The pastas were perfectly cooked with flavorful sauces. We also shared a Margherita pizza, which had an excellent crust and very flavorful cheese and basil. Our waiter, Simone, brought us some digestivo out for after dinner on the house! Very authentic experience, as the menu is in Italiano, but they have an English version you can download on your phone. We would go back!! read more

The staff were great and a huge shout out to one gentleman whose name I did not catch, but an assume is an owner as he said it was his grandmother's tiramisu recipe. Fantastic place for lunch or dinner. Definitely get the fried anchovies and also the fresh anchovies with burrata. Kids sized pizza is excellent value! My wife got the octopus salad which was fantastic, and I got the Margherita pizza which was one of the best I've had in all of Italy. The tiramusu dessert was amazing too! Peppo's is located in the Trastevere district and seems a million miles away from the busy tourist areas. This was our second visit and it didn't disappoint. We ordered Margareta and 4 brothers (cheese and pesto) pizzas. The pizzas are Neapolitan style which I personally prefer over thin crust Rome style and were delicious. We also had the cod starter, small pieces of cod battered and fried..equally good. We were there on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy. It was easy making a reservation from their web site and if you want a nice table outside it's best to make the reservation. read more

During our travels to and from our lodging, we passed by this place a few times. Tonight I was looking for something that didn't have tomatoes (kidding!)... Actually the risotto sounded good so we popped in after failing to find an open supermarket. It is a very charming place. Warm, inviting, and excellent food! I would have given it five stars but they don't take credit cards and the calamari was a but overlooked. Funny though, the rice was perfectly al dente. I finished with the crema catalana. This place is AWESOME !!! We were first treated to dinner here over a year ago by a friend of ours that lives in Rome. My wife is Italian and we are in Rome at least once or twice a year and Peppo has quickly become one of our favorites. This place has the best pizza around due to how they age the dough and the rest of the dishes are really great, from the exquisitely prepared pasta to the delicious variety of antipasti. Everything is really fresh and delicious. We have since been there for a few celebrations with some of our Italian friends who are difficult to please foodies like most Italians and they all gave it 2 big thumbs. Also, I have to mention that the owner Salvatore is the most gracious host you can possibly ask for. I can't forget to mention the superb selection of wines with expert recommendations. The service is beyond friendly and along with the great food creates an experience we will keep coming back for. Thank you Peppo and Salvatore! Continued success. P.S.
