I saw the stellar reviews on Google and decided to schedule an appointment for a cleaning. Here is my personal experience with this service. I believe Dr. David Garate is a very capable dentist however I think there is a practice to overbook his services to the extent of causing extensive delays to his patients. I originally scheduled a routine cleaning but was advised to get a deep cleaning. I inquired about braces and was told I needed a frenectomy before the braces were put on. I followed through with the regular cleaning, the deep cleaning, and the frenectomy. This process took several weeks to complete. Several times I was made to wait to get my procedures started as a hurried Dr. Garate was busy finishing work on previous clients. In one particular instance, once my procedure started, he was so frazzled that he numbed the wrong side of my mouth with the numbing needle. As you can imagine, this is a very painful experience which involves stabbing you in the nerve of your gums with a long needle and injecting the numbing solution. He apologized profusely for doing this. He gave me some Starbucks gift cards in an attempt to make amends however the insult remains. This should have never happened and was completely unprofessional, avoidable and unacceptable. However the most traumatic experience came during the frenectomy. Dr. Garate applied the numbing gel to my gums and let it sit less than 60 seconds before jabbing me with the numbing needle. As it was previously explained to me by one of his assistants, they leave the gel on for far much longer in order to help ease the pain of jabbing you with the numbing needle. Dr. Garate wasted no such time and I felt EVERYTHING. Then came the procedure of the frenectomy, which uses a laser to cut through the muscle tissue in between the front of your two front teeth and behind it. It is literally burning your flesh. When giving post-op instructions for the pain once the numbness wore off, Dr. Garate told me to simply take Ibuprofen. Mind you, I just had the inside of my mouth burned for over 30 minutes. When I tell you this was some of the most excruciating pain I've ever felt in my 48 years on this planet once the numbness wore off...it brought me to tears over several days. I lost 5 pounds due to my inability to eat comfortably due to the pain. I had to call in to be seen way in advance of my scheduled follow up to get relief. Once seen, Dr. Garate halfway admonished me for taking over the counter pain relief remedies such as Orajel when he left me to my own devices as he could only think to suggest Ibuprofen in the aftermath of the frenectomy. Ibuprofen could not touch the pain that ensued from the burn wounds to my inner mouth after this procedure. He then filled stronger pain relief medications on my behalf to my local pharmacist and provided vitamin E pills from the office that he instructed to burst and rub on the area. My question is this, he obviously has done this procedure numerous times in the past. Why not anticipate the pain level and provide prescriptions at the conclusion of the procedure? If not that, why not instruct on the Vitamin E remedy in the least? Why send a burn victim home with dreams of Ibuprofen? Why put a valued patient through this painful ordeal unnecessarily? What amount of Starbucks gift cards could Perfect Smiles distribute to me to make up for what they put me through??? read more

I am soo beyond grateful for the team at Perfect Smiles! We were visiting on vacation and my 9 year old was having severe tooth pain. We called and the team got us in ASAP! They took X-rays and explained everything to us so clearly and gave us multiple options. They were able to do same day extraction for an amazing amazing price! My daughter said that the Doctor took her teeth out "so smoothly" she didn't complain of any pain and she is up and playing (gently) just a few hours later. My husband and I visited for a cleaning. It was our first time. At the end of the visit, we were whisked off to a private office to discuss 10 fillings each and adult braces for my husband--- totaling $6,000. We have PPO dental insurance too. They still charged me $140 for a cleaning, plus our $50 deductible each. $240 visit. The office technician wanted to quickly get us into financing for $6,000. We didn't have the time to process that this was a little skeptical. We changed our dentist in Orange County where I got cleanings every 3 months. The OC dentist who treats our entire family didn't tell us we needed 10 fillings each, and we just saw him in 2022. This didn't add up right. I saw the photos of my mouth and it was not imminent to get 1 or 10 fillings. Nor was my husband's mouth. I appreciate that they show patients the photos but they don't tell you that all teeth do not warrant fillings right away. By the way, if you get fillings, you still have to get dental cleanings so you have to monitor those too. And, you may have to replace them in 20 years because they get old. In 20 years, you'll spend another $2000 for fillings. May be a great office for others but not us. Also, if you do not cancel your appointment within 48 hours, they will charge you $50 per HOUR for the appointment missed. In other words, if you're dental service would have take 2 hours, you'll be charged $100. The office said if it's a genuine emergency, they'd review it case by case. No thanks. That just gives me anxiety. Positive notes about this office; friendly staff and patient if your late. read more

I went in with hopes of finding a local dentist but that didn't happen. My insurance indicated the dentist on my plan however I didn't see that dentist, I saw a different one. At the exam the dentist is telling me about things my teeth, it was difficult to get a word in. Once I finally did, I didn't feel heard and I shut down because there was no point. Here it goes, I'm that person that was deadly terrified ,embarrassed and just straight out did not want to see a dentist because of bad experiences in the past . It started with a broken tooth, thank god because if it wouldn't have finally just broke. I still would be sitting here with a bad tooth. Here's what I liked first hand about perfect smiles. My tooth broke on a Saturday night. I called so many places and perfect smiles was the only answering machine where the Dr. left his personal phone number and it says he will get back to you and that he did. I didn't need to be seen in an emergency but it gave me piece of mind knowing that it could wait till monday. Dr. Garate even asked for a picture in text. It just showed me that perfect smiles actually cares. And I knew from there I chose the right place! He said I would be getting a call from the receptionist monday. And as soon as monday came I got that call from Bianca . She was very comforting and made it easy to express my concerns and reasons of having to come in . I didn't feel as embarrassed. Long story short... I have a started treatment. My temporary crown was put in and I have zero pain. Im excited looking forward to the final out come! Dr Garate is a thief! He has the wort ETHICS ever! He will take your money for services that are not needed and not only that not do the job correctly so guess what 1 year later expect to have to have the same work done. The new front desk lady Juana has the worst customer service skills ever! She over talks and her lack of education really shows. I would highly recommend people to stay away from this crook!! He agreed to refund me my money and now he is backing out of his word. Again stay far away unless you want to lose the integrity of your teeth. I was Dr. Garate's patient until I discovered that the Dental Board of California had revoked Dr. Garate's license to practice dentistry (license # 61023) on Dec. 31, 2016, with the revocation stayed and Dr. Garate was placed on probation for 2 years (Case # DBC 2015-27). I don't recall Dr. Garate informing me that he was the subject of disciplinary action by the Dental Board or that he was on probation. I felt misled and decided not to go back. read more

Beyond impressed with the superb service that Dr. Falcon has. I went in for myself a couple of weeks ago a bit nervous. Dr. Falcon addresses and resolved all my concerns. I felt at peace. She took her time and was gentle. The next day I was amazed with a call to follow up on how I was doing. I was perfectly fine after my procedures. I decided to bring in my elderly mother today. Dr. Falcon once again impressed me with her caring and patience. She went way beyond to explain in detail my mothers dental situation offered a plan and solution. Terrible. The dentist garate left my Mom in the room for four hours, open-mouthed, barely looked at or worked on, while he walked around training others and checking on other patients. They consistently offered the headphones and netflix options so we could not hear him scrambling around and degrading the new staff's techniques. Also took him two hours for something that would have taken Dr. Razo thirty minutes. Definitely searching for someone more like Dr. Razo. read more
