I had a couple experiences that didn't go well and asked to speak to the owner. When speaking to the owner he was not interested in making good on misdiagnosed issues and delay in getting car back. Today I came in for AC service. When I came there car was cooling but not like it should. Thought it may be low on freon. When I left there today I had no cooling at all. When brought to owners attention he didn't see the need to make Customer happy knowing I spent money to not have it working at all. I probably shouldn't have come back after the first misdiagnosed issue but always want to give someone the benefit of the doubt. That was my mistake. I would find somewhere else to have your car serviced where the owner takes responsibility. read more

I have been going to Sanders since I moved to the area. They have been great up until they started charging me for services I did not ask for. The first time I swept it under the rug but the second time and 200.00 later - I am done. They are great scam artist but are horrible at running a business. Please save your self the trouble and go literally anywhere else in the Pittsboro area. If you deal with "Bucky" good luck.... You will need it. He is the one that likes to charge you and make up reasons why they are charging you. When I confronted him he said "I just assumed you knew it was going to cost that much". We were told by neighbors that Sanders Automotive is the best and they have proven that to us over the last eight years of doing business with them. They are honest, trustworthy, friendly, and they do really good work. Chris, Lisa, Rob, and Bucky are salt if the earth people as are the rest of the crew. This is a business you want to support. They are doing good work on your vehicles and they are also actively helping the community as well. This nonsense about price increases is not a Sanders issue. Everything has increased!! Initially I brought the vehicle to Sanders Automotive before I knew of Automotive Solutions. At Sanders Auto (my "old friend" there previously from Chapel Hill Tire, took my car in. Since I know just enough about vehicles to diagnose it I feel fairly confident when I bring it into the mechanic. When I saw "B" I knew it was going to get interesting and sure enough it did. I was told that the vibration went away if I hold the steering wheel (LOL) and that the only thing wrong was the CV Boot had ripped. They definitely missed the engine/tranmission mounts as well as the failed control arm. But its a blessing in disguise as it lead me to Automotive Solutions :) read more

Since they opened the new, much bigger garage the prices have nearly doubled for many services and the owner went from being friendly and civil to totally non communicative. I used to be a regular there for many years. I went from my first name to just a number, and instead of getting a friendly smile from the owner (who is also the lead mechanic) l get a snarl. I guess this is what more money and more responsibility does to some people. Now l go to Pittsboro for all my mechanical needs. read more

Sanders did not fix my car's problem, all the could do was put it on a scanner, finding nothing wrong with it using the scanner. This was a car that stalled, driving up the driveway with more than enough gas to go 45 miles. It seemed to me that there was water in the gas tank because it sputtered when the gas was low, that is why I brought the car there with a low tank. I informed them of these problems. Like I said all they did was put it on a scanner and charged $45 for that. I took it to another competent local mechanic, they found the problem immediately, mainly because they understand how cars work. The other mechanic - Howard Automotive on 64 also new how to troubleshoot a problem without a scanner. The only thing the car needed was a new set of spark plugs, yep a new set of plugs. That was it. Howard also put something to help if there was in fact water in the tank. I really wanted to put my faith in Sanders, but unfortunately they did not step up to the plate, they also charged me for nothing, so I would say Meh, Ive experienced way better. The only reason I didn't give them a 5-star rating was that there was nary a mask in sight on their staff! I'm immunocompromised and it makes me nervous to go into buildings in general these days and even more so when no one is masked! I'm saddened by this because I'd definitely consider going back to use them again; they were super friendly, efficient and kind but I won't at least not until Covid is long in the rearview for me. I realize people in Pittsboro think the virus no longer exists in this town but I'm realistic and have to be careful despite being vaccinated. And knowing that they are not as careful as I'd like people who deal with the public to be, I will wait a while before trusting my health in their environment. But if this is not a concern of yours, then I'd definitely feel fine about patronizing them! read more

I've taken my cars to so many mechanics over the years, I feel like I can tell a good mechanic from a not so good one and Sanders is definitely among the good ones. They've done everything on my car from simple oil changes to much more substantial work as well as tires. Every time I've taken one of my cars to them, I've been treated with honesty, transparency, and integrity. They've always called me after completing their diagnosis to get approval before beginning work. I've never felt like they were trying to up-sell me or do anything that my car did not need. Sadly, I cannot say the same thing about some of the other local, larger, chain auto repair facilities. For what it's worth, I've worked on cars in the past and choose to use a reputable mechanic out of convenience, so I tend to be fairly wary and critical of mechanics. The folks at Sanders are definitely one of the honest ones out there and do quality work at a fair price. Sure, Sanders doesn't offer transportation or a super comfortable waiting area or any other similar perks, but that's not what I'm paying them for. They know their stuff, are very trustworthy, and I'd highly recommend them. read more

We moved to Pittsboro last year and thankfully haven't really needed any auto work done until just recently. Our neighbor rec'd Sanders when we had a catastrophic situation with our Mazda. Long story short--the car needed about $7000 of work to begin. The owner Rob Sanders spoke with my hubby and laid out all the issues and what the costs were and then said, I would love to do the work for you but I wouldn't recommend you do it. It's expensive, once we get into the work, there will almost surely be additional issues to fix and it will never run right going forward. His honesty and expertise was a welcome change from the shenanigans you get in some auto places. When I went in to settle up I met both Rob & Mark (brothers and co-owners). Super nice, very professional and the waiting area/office was very clean and nice if you needed to wait for your services to be complete. Usually I'm an oil change/tire rotation customer but whatever I need for auto work, I will definitely go there. read more

Took my vehicle in for air conditioning repair. They told me I needed new compressor,etc., and made another appointment for the next week because they needed to order parts. When I took the car back in, they hadn't ordered the parts, and had to wait two more days for parts to arrive. AC seemed to have been repaired ($1600), but a month later AC stopped working. I had just moved out of state, so took it to new mechanic. Was told that AC system was leaking in several places due to Sanders poor installation. Cost me another $700 to fix Sanders sloppy work. read more

They used to be reputable. Do NOT take your car to Sanders Automotive! If you bring them a car for an NC state inspection they will sell you new wiper blades even if the ones on your car are perfectly fine. They also won't ask if you want them, they just install them and charge you after the fact. They will not call you and ask if you want them changed they just go ahead and put a new pair on and throw away the ones that were on your car. This is unethical. No mechanic should ever perform any service without authorization. This has happened to my father, two of my friends and myself. We all work on our own cars and are quite knowledgeable on the subject. We check everything before we bring the car in so we won't waste our time. It happened to me earlier today. When I called the technician out he started yelling in my face and swore at me three times in the parking lot. I went into the office and showed my original wiper blades to the guy behind the counter. They had actually just been replaced a few months ago. He did not deny that they were still in good condition. I told him that his employee started yelling and swearing at me in the parking lot and his response was "He owns just as much of this place as I do". That was an owner yelling profanity at me in the parking lot. WOW! Something like wiper blades is a cheap and easy repair. However; when someone who is not knowledgable about cars goes to a mechanic they have to TRUST them. For a lot of people there is no way to know if your car actually needs what you are being sold. It might only be an extra $40 for the person who is having their car inspected but if Sanders Automotive sells a pair of these dishonestly for every car they inspect that can add up to a big sum of money. I went to this shop for many years when it was owned by Whitaker and it makes me sad that it was sold to dishonest folks. I will not ever go there for another inspection again.
