Went there to get crawfish and they were extremely over cooked and seasoned horribly. Which really sucks because the staff is amazing and and their fried food is great.. the name of this restaurant should make people think their boiled seafood is amazing but it's quite the opposite. I don't know what others are talking about the crawfish being dry. I advise to always call to make sure crawfish is fresh in case cause I always do to avoid the disappointment. It's off season and must have been my lucky day.. crawfish was fresh :). It was super yummy and flavorful. Best in Nola in my opinion. I get the sneaking suspicion that the owner of Perino's might like hunting. If the many taxidermy animals all over the walls wasn't telling enough, the multiple version of hunting games might have given it away. As some others have mentioned, there is no signage to tell you to seat yourself or wait to be seated. Luckily, there was someone who pointed us in the correct direction. The menu is limited but has better prices than I expected. Together, we got seafood gumbo with rice on the side, a do it yourself oyster po boy, onion rings and unsweetened tea with extra lemon. I have to admit, their make your own po boy thing is really weird. I've never seen anyplace do it like that. Usually Po boys are priced the same or lower than the platter. Here, it costs more and they just bring you some po boy bread and veggies to go with your seafood plate. Strange. I got the seafood gumbo which was quite strong in crab flavor (Which I like).The shrimp were, sadly, gummy as if they were reheated and while I asked for the rice on the side, it came in the bowl and was also a bit gummy. But the actual gumbo flavor was good. Speaking of service, our waitress was sweet but forgetful. Forgetting my straw; forgetting The Girly's Po boy fixings; forgetting to check if the rice was on the side, etc...But she did seem nice enough. We split the onion rings and they were the best part of the meal; light, crispy and a TON of them. Too much for us to eat, even sharing. What a disappointment. This place use to be good and reasonably priced but over the last couple of years the prices have gone up but the quality has gone down. They are currently charging almost $7/lb for Crayfish. This is higher prices than they are charging in the French Quarter. I would expect to pay this at a nicer restaurant but to serve plasticware I don't feel the price is justified. The quality has also gone down. They overcook the seafood (crab and shrimp) which makes it difficult to peal. I use to really like this place but sadly I will not be returning. read more

I went on a swamp tour with my family and since we drove ourselves we asked the tour guide where to go for fresh seafood. This place did not disappoint... so so good! We ordered way too much food but nobody was complaining about that. First we ordered a round of broiled oysters (save the butter!). Perino's was recommended to us by three different sets of folks who work and live in New Orleans as a place they themselves would go. It required an Uber ride from the warehouse district to get there since it is about 7-miles away on the other side of the river. We didn't know what to expect - but what is there is unique! The staff, Julie in particular, was very friendly and she seemed genuinely excited that 4 people from San Francisco Bay Area had sought out their restaurant. The food was excellent - but Bay Area diners need to bring the right expectations - it's not California cuisine, it's not romantic dining, it's not a quiet place. All four of us who went loved it. Food you cannot get where we live. Really nice staff. Inexpensive for what you're eating. A unique dining room! Caution - the owner of the place must be a big game hunter and the decor features about 50 stuffed hunting trophies - if that will turn you off, simply don't go. I will DEFINITELY return here even though it's off the beaten path! read more

I wish I could give this place 1 star! The crawfish was tiny and under seasoned. I've never had such bad crawfish and I've been eating crawfish for 22 years!!! The corn and potatoes are boiled in plain water no seasoning at all! I had to ask for butter, which they charged me $.70. They had a 3lb special but they definitely are cheating people. Once I complained the server told me she had not had a complaint all day and maybe I didn't know how to peel them. Sorry excuse for crawfish and service, especially in NOLA. read more

First stop off the plane with my friend who's local. I said crawfish and this is where I got taken, and was not disappointed. Ordered 3lbs of crawfish, sausage, potatoes, and corn. A whole mound of food and for not that much $$! Delicious hot seasoned steamed crawfish packed with meat! There isn't much to say, its crawfish, if you know you know. All I can say is CRAWFISH BABY, this place has some huge crawfish! The flavor the freshness oh my. When you walk through the door you know you hit the motherload of Cajun spice. I am honestly shocked that people go here. Not to mention their prices are ridiculously high for what you get. $20 for a dozen chargrilled oysters? I can pay that at dragos and not have tacky taxidermy stuffed animals all throughout the restaurant looking at me while I eat. it is so so so weird.. there is even a stuffed lion. Swear. Plus a pound of Boiled shrimp is almost $14 and they were over cooked. Crawfish were half cold and mushy. Like they have been dipped in the boil too many times and then left out or something. The lady at the Swamp Adventure place recommended this restaurant, for good reason. The food was outstanding, and very reasonably priced. We had fried oysters, calamari, and fried soft shell crabs, and they were all great, huge portions so we had lots of leftovers. Nothing was greasy at all, which is good cuz I hate greazy fried seafood. We were tempted to get a pound of peel and eat shrimp, which other tables around us were chowing down on, but we ran out of room. Next time. I think you won't go wrong with this restaurant. I went here last night. It is a very relaxed atmosphere dining..., and local bar. It is a hidden jewel for NOLA. They don't try to throw extra "fluff" on your plate. It is straight forward good food. I did not like the prices.. You can get crawfish for $1.39 a pound right now in cooked. I got one beer (Reds), five pounds of crawfish, potatoes and one sausage for just over $52.00 before the tip. That's a really big profit margin, for that I had to drop the stars. read more

I know nothing about crawfish. I do know after trying them (here) for the first time I really like them. I came here with a group of 5 (3 locals & 2 of us who were visiting), so we let one of the natives just order for all us and he did an excellent job. We had 5 lbs of crawfish, 3 lbs of boiled shrimp (it might have been the other way around I can't remember), sausage & potatoes. It was more than enough food and it was all delicious. I LOVE how it's basically served in one big platter (we had a two-tier platter) and everybody just goes at it. This is also perfect beer drinking food, and went well w/Stella. We had a very friendly server & I liked that the atmosphere is pretty minimal. It's a no frills kind of place that just serves good food. read more

I came here on a weekday, and I was surprised how busy it was, but we were still able to get a seat easily. The crawfish was $4.99 a pound for some small crawfish. It was well seasoned though. Not too spicy, yet right amount of all the seasonings and salt. A bowl of gumbo was a little watery, but it was filled with lots of seafood. I have always wanted to try crawfish. And for my Jazz Fest NOLA trip, I was told that it was the season for it so it was in my MUST list. However, I suffer from ADD whenever I am in New Orleans. There are just too many places to check out, too many dishes to try, and too many family and friends to meet up with in such a short amount of time. My departure looms near, one night left in New Orleans, and still no crawfish. *smacks forehead* But I have a hero in the person of my uncle! Having mentioned to him that I wanted to try crawfish and have not had the opportunity to try this Louisiana favorite, he said that crawfish was what we would be having for my goodbye dinner with him. (Aren't uncles just the best?!?) He took me to Perino's Boiling Pot. Perino's is located in the parking lot of a chain hotel. Not really bothersome considering I enjoyed fried chicken from a gas station before. It has stark fluorescent lighting and really no ambience to speak of. It feels almost like a high school cafeteria (mind, I never went to high school in the US, so this is just how I imagine US high school cafeterias would be like). It's pretty obvious that this is not a touristy place, as most of the diners seemed to be locals. We ordered the deep-fried alligator, deep-fried oysters, raw oysters (the very first I have ever had), and 3 lbs of crawfish (mild). The deep-fried alligator was the least of my favorite, but it could be because I really have no clue how alligator meat is supposed to taste like. It was just tougher and chewier than I would like. The fried oysters were perfectly cooked. The raw oysters were really good -- fresh, succulent, sweet, and soft. I sense more raw oysters in my future. The main dish of the evening for me was the crawfish. It was a cross between shrimp and lobster to me. More meat to be had than shrimp with less shelling, but without the tough/rubbery texture of lobster meat. It was perfectly spiced and just plain delicious. I get it! I totally get the love. I heart crawfish! I would definitely go back here next time I am in New Orleans -- properly dressed in black and hopefully with less problems shelling my crawfish. Besides, I do owe my uncle a crawfish dinner... Note: Here is my only gripe: why the stark lighting?!? I was dressed in my party clothes (I was headed to Frenchmen after the dinner) and obviously a newbie. I imagine I was quite the dinner entertainment for the other diners. Actually, I take that back -- this was not my imagination. Quite a few people, including our waitress, looked my way repeatedly and couldn't hide their good-natured chuckles when I was struggling to shell my crustaceans and when the juices splashed my pretty dress. A slightly darker lighting would have been more than appreciated! But it's all good, Perino's. It was most definitely my fault for showing up looking the way I did. This place is worth a trip. While we were driving down to the Westbank, I told my visiting family we were going to go out to the country for a little bit of Cajun life, so of course they were surprised when I pulled into the parking lot of some chain hotel next to a row of strip malls. I would have said "Trust me" but the never do, Ordering is easy. Carwfish, in 1. 3 or 5 pound increments is all you need. That and some corn and sausage. The menu is on a 3x5 card and you can ignore 60% of it. Those 3 items and pitchers of beer...done and done. The crawfish are always the best quality and flavor...and big enough you can eat the claws when the platters are emty, all heads are ripped off, and you are still loitering over beer. The sweet waitress, who had my dad easily pegged as"not from around here" asked where Jazzfest took place and said how she always dreamed of going there. A trip to the country indeed. We told her we'd come back, buy her a ticket and take her next year, and if she is still working there we will. After Katrina, I swore I'd never cross to the Westbank again, but the folks at Perino's weren't the ones threatening to shoot my neighbors on the bridge and sending them back to the convention center without any water, so I make a rare exception and head that way for this restauraunt,.Obviously, the place has to be good read more

The food is decent. We usually go here a few times a year for crawfish but the thing that keeps me searching for another spot is the staff. We've had almost every waitress that has worked at Perino's in the past 3 years and NONE OF THEM are friendly. We are good tippers (usually 22%) and even that hasn't changed their attitudes. Last night we left a $10 tip and when my husband said goodbye the waitress didn't even acknowledge him and she saw the tip moments earlier when she collected the check. It has been a while since I last dined here but it didn't disapoint on a recent visit. Crawfish were not in season yet so I went with my favorite anyway, boiled shrimp! They were seasoned correctly and boiled just the right amount of time. They peeled easy, which makes for a great eating experience. The sausage, corn & potato's were also done correctly. Service has always been exceptional here. I ate at the bar and was met with attentive service and good conversation. This place is a little hard to find but well worth the effort. Eat at Perino's. It's authentic, delicious and the people are very friendly. This is not a place that caters to tourists. Locals hang out here...and if locals are eating it...then you want to, too. The menu is limited, but what they lack in options they more than make up for in quality. We had the Oysters, crawfish and gumbo. It was all fresh, outstanding and a fraction of the price that you'd pay in New Orleans. We spent...ahem...wasted a lot of money at Emeril's and this food was far more superior. This is definitely a place for the locals with exception to this vacationing city girl! This is where my Nola family takes me to dinner when I'm in town. Trust me, they know as soon as I arrive that I want to get some boiled crabs! The food here has always been on point. The only gripe that I have is the last time we went here my auntie called ahead to make sure they had crabs. On the phone they said they had 2 dozen left. We staked our claim on those bad boys but when we arrived we were sadly met with only 1.5 dozen! Someone had called in an order before we got there I guess!!! I was upset and would give them 4.5 for that but the food is great so it gets bumped back to 5. I highly recommend the boiled seafood, especially the crabs. Tried this place for the first time tonight with friends. First off, do I really have to eat in the company of all the bad taxidermy in this place? Stuffed lion, stuffed monkey, etc. Plus I'm lucky enough to look at pictures of the actual animals when they were killed. None of us were impressed in the slightest. It was disgusting, to be honest. The food was okay. Crawfish? Excellent. Spiced up just right and really juicy. My friend, however, had an order of curly fries that tasted really funny. And no I'm not talking about the seasoning. Everyone tried them and everyone agreed that they tasted off. Our server was friendly but not talkative. No suggestions and really no personality. Best seafood on the westbank! Low key atmosphere and the staff is always welcoming. The gumbo is always on point and the fried shrimp melt in your mouth. If you like oysters this definitely a must try! You can get them raw, fried or chargrilled with yummy French bread. The crab clusters are always a must have for us when we dine there. You can also call for order pickup and it's cooked to perfection in under 15min. They also have a new delicious and well portioned kids menu. read more

Place is ridiculously overrated. First the decor is confusing. Yes, the owner hunts in Africa and kills ridiculous game (lions, monkeys, wilda beasts) and hangs them up in the restaurant, but seriously, they DO NOT belong in a seafood restaurant. The crawfish boudin looks really unappetizing, but had surprisingly good flavor. The boiled seafood was bland and the spice sucked. This place is average at best. The dungeness crab legs tasted very chemically and briny (they are frozen in a brine solution). There are much much better places in the new orleans area. read more

Perino's exceeded all expectations! I had 3 lbs of crawfish, crawfish boudin, gumbo, and 2 beers for $25. Obviously they get an A for value, but did not stop there. Having waited several years to get my crawfish on, I had built it up in my mind. Everything tasted great - the seasoning was spot on! Jenny was my server: she was attentive and friendly. Chester was behind the bar working on oysters. He was great: we had more fun telling tales and laughing the entire night. I think it's a locals joint, but the people around the bar took me right in. Oh, I did sit on the dark side where the serious drinking happens. Its definitely the fun side of the house. If you are nearby and love crawfish, having fun, nice/good people, or cold beer, then its just a must you stop by here! read more

Order boudin and boiled crawfish. First the boudin. Nothing but flavored rice. No meat whatsoever inside. Do not waste your money on it. Now the boiled crawfish. They were really seasoned well. My sister and I picked this place mainly because of the mouth watering cover picture of a bucket full of seafood, but it was misleading because when we actually went, there didn't seem to be an option of ordering a beautiful bucket of seafood, so we had to order everything separately. We tried the shrimp, dungeness crab, sausages, and fries. Loved the sausages and fries (fatty, unhealthy heaven), and the shrimp tasted fresh. The crab we got was an old/sick crab or something, because the meat was atrophied or non-existent under the shell. But our server told us that the cook gave us an extra crab to make up for it, which was nice. I didn't get to try the crawfish because when we sat down, the server told me "The only thing we don't have is crawfish," and I took that to mean that crawfish was out of season. When I looked over and saw crawfish at the table next to ours after we were done with our lunch, the server explained that she meant that the crawfish was actually not done cooking when we were first ordering. That made my stomach a little sad. So don't assume that crawfish is out of season, ask for it anyways! Compared to Cajun Seafood in the 7th Ward, I like Cajun Seafood better because it has more spices (prices are better as well). But Perino's is definitely fresher. read more

Ok, I love this place. I am a big fan now. I use to go to Salvo's, but after coming here I realized Salvo's crawfish is dirty.... Anyway I came here with my bf! we wanted oysters, crawfish, and a poboy! First off they were busy, so we opted for the bar! we had crawfish first and they were $5.57 a pound two weeks ago when we went. It was delicious! the oysters were good also! after we ate our oysters, they had opened a new sack and we were watching the shucker shucking HUGE OYSTERS!!! I was definitely jealous! Any way we shared the oyster platter and made it a poboy! it was very good. the fried oysters were huge! and it was a good amount! This will be my to go spot for some crawfish!! read more
