Our server, Christopher, was very attentive, suggested wine pairings, and gave us great recommendations. We started with the charbroiled oysters which is a must. They were large and charred to perfection on the outside grill, topped with parm and breadcrumbs. My friends ordered the filet and the gulf fish, and I had the charred cabbage entree, with a French gerwurztraminer blend. The mushrooms with the blue cheese sauce were so rich and delicious! Sweet treats were a no brainer. The blue cheese flan was creamy and decadent. A perfect ending to the meal. This is so far my fave restaurant in New Orleans. This is one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans, especially for brunch. Today they had a small band playing and a few great specials. The service is impeccable, waitstaff is friendly and they are great at refilling water, drinks etc. they always provide a surprise bake good before the meal and every meal and drink I've had there is spectacular. I wanted to have lunch outside of the French quarter and found Atchafalaya, which is a beautiful historic creole cottage in the Irish Channel. We showed up without a reservation, which I do recommend if you want to be seated quickly. The waitress took my number and said we would get a text as soon as a table was ready which ended up being about 45 min. No biggie, we went around the corner and enjoyed a beer. I'm so glad we decided to eat here, they have indoor & outdoor seating and even offer private dining options. Our Pimm's cups were on point and the food was amazing! Definitely a spot I would recommend to anyone visiting New Orleans. Atchafalaya is a small restaurant on the edge of the Garden District with a can't miss brunch menu. The Duck Hash, pictured, and the Huevos Rancheros were the highlights, with fried green tomatoes falling shortly behind. Our server, Georgia, was attentive, and kept our drinks, water, and coffee full. The ambiance was nice for a late brunch, and the drink menu was perfect for the 1:30pm time, offering both brunch drinks like Good Morning Vietnam, and early afternoon drinks like Table for Two. We came as a party of 4 and ordered the following dishes to share: Fried green tomatoes ($18, 4/5) --Refreshing combination of flavors, just wish there were more of it! --Topped with butter-poached lump carb, shallots, smoked trout roe, Crystal hot sauce Gumbo du Jour ($8, 3/5) --The gumbo was fine but nothing too special. Would probably skip next time. Duck Hash ($28, 5/5) --My favorite of the dishes! The duck confit was tender, with the sweet potato and kale adding some heartiness. Also had a bit of tartness with the blackberries. Breakfast Risotto ($25, 4/5) --The risotto itself was creamy and paired nicely with the hollandaise and poached egg --The pork was a bit tough but had good flavor Tres leches bread pudding ($9, 3/5) --Pretty standard bread pudding (no additional fillings inside). Would probably also skip this for other offerings on their dessert menu. Overall, really enjoyed dining at Atchafalaya! Lovely presentation and their dishes have good depth of flavor. Booked a reservation for here on a Saturday evening. Nice and chill restaurant in the inside. Love the high ceilings. We ordered the following: Cocktails: Smoke and Cinder & Autumn Sunset. My cocktail (smoke and cinder) was mixed quite well. I enjoyed it over the course of the meal. For the appetizer, we got the Brussels sprouts. Loved how they served it on a skillet. The mint gave it a unique touch of sorts. Also appreciated the assortment of breads & corn muffins. For the main course, I got the cabbage steak. Southern food is done here as you'd imagine it to be if you have quality expectations before going to New Orleans. (+) Right off the bat, they start you off with acceptable biscuits and butter. (+/-) Their Sazerac is good enough for brunch, but too light if it were to be had during dinner. The food shines. I had the red beans and rice with their fried chicken. Something so simple but done so right. The flavors were all there, and the chicken was left juicy and tender with my ideal fried crunch. Their gumbo was good. My wife and I visited this restaurant for brunch for my birthday as we were visiting from DC. I was a bit concerned when we first walked up to the restaurant because there were numerous people waiting outside to be seated. Either way it was really good. The Gumbo was excellent and super flavorful. It was so good I was mad at myself for getting a cup instead of a bowl. For entrees, my wife and I both ordered the shrimp and grits. I have had shrimp and grits a lot over the years, this was easily the best shrimp and grits I have ever had in my life! OK, folks, you need to find your way to this restaurant. We visited on a Friday for a late lunch, arriving around 1:40P with the restaurant closing at 2:30P. Of course we can seat you! There were plenty of tables still with patrons, and our server was promptly setting our table in this intimate dining area on the first floor. LOVE all the natural light. NOTE: Street parking; no lot. Opted for a couple of their NA Cocktails, including a seasonal cherry and a cucumber lime spritzer. Both were good, but the cucumber lime was the winner. Split the Fried Green Tomatoes with shrimp, remoulade, mixed greens, shallots and roe ($18), the Kale & Goat Cheese Salad ($15) with blueberries, red onions and vinaigrette, and the Fried Brussel Sprouts ($12) with miso-honey and goat cheese. There was not enough room in our stomachs for all this food, but we ate as much as we could, bringing only a bit of the salad and some of the Brussel sprouts home. Tucked nicely in a neighborhood bordering Uptown and the Garden District it's in a lovely homey building with a lot of character. Always white tablecloth experience we were seated right away for brunch. Make sure you have a reservation as the place isn't big, quite intimate, as are many New Orleans better quality neighborhood establishments. I immediately ordered their signature Bloody Mary, as it is an institutional drink here. Unfortunately, they no longer have the Bloody Mary bar where after you order your particular vodka you head to the bar and put your own drink together with all the refinements imaginable. It used to be a fun event in itself. We were told it was ended with the pandemic. Sad, yet understandable. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict and it was absolutely delectable. The crab cake mixture was perfectly molded together and cooked well, and two poached eggs on top. So good. They also brought some delectable small muffins with flavored butter. I had a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience at Atchafalaya during brunch. My friend and I arrived and were asked if we had a reservation. We said no, and the host told us it would be a 30-minute wait. However, while standing there, I watched multiple parties both before and after us get seated without reservations. We waited the full 30 minutes and returned, only to be told we would have to sit at the bar. This didn't make sense because there were already open bar seats when we first arrived. When I asked for a table instead, the host said we'd have to wait even longer and despite there being several open tables and other guests continuing to be seated without delay. At that point, it felt like we were being treated differently for no clear reason. The inconsistency and lack of fairness made the experience feel discriminatory and very uncomfortable. No one should feel singled out or treated unfairly when simply trying to enjoy a meal. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses how guests are being handled at the front. read more
